Busted my S4. My replacement is up and running, wanted to see what kind of ROM options are available for my new setup... used to run hyperdrive 21 but haven't kept up with development.
Android 5.0.1, vrugof1, currently running stock rooted.
Albe's S6 port and stang5litre's rom are the only ones for OF1

I've gone through the process of rooting my Verizon Galayx S4 ME7. I had no issues with rooting the phone.
Now I'm running into an issue. I can not get a recovery installed so that I can install Carbon ROM on my phone.
Can anyone help me?
With me7 you can only use safestrap and that isn't compatible with aosp ROMs yet.

Is there any ROM similar to Carbon you would recommend? Where can I find out how to do safestrap?
I want to know if there are any Google Play edition KitKat ROMs that work with safestrap? I want very little modifications done to it, just what is required for it to work on Verizon. If not is there a way where I could build it from source?
The only GPE rom that works is the 4.2.2 and that is ONLY if you are on ME7/MI1 with safestrap I believe.
Other than that there is no way you can run GPE on safestrap.

There isn't a way to do the same with 4.4?
No, Safestrap isn't able to flash the kernel which is why.
The 4.3 GPE uses and aosp kernel and a 4.4 GPE rom isn't available unless your talking about any other aosp rom.
But still there is only touchwiz available for safestrap

Ok thank you for your help, I may just end up going back to Touchwiz and using the xposed framework to get that AOSP feel

Get Hyperdrive and use xposed and wanam to theme and customize. No its not aosp but it's extremely stable and looks awesome
Verizon Galaxy S4
SafeStrap 3.71
Hyperdrive 12

Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting my brother's GS4 to work with his Ford Sync system in his vehicle. According to Ford, the GS4 with ME7 firmware is compatible. However, his rooted phone is on MDK firmware. Can I install that firmware on his phone and will it limit what rom's I can run on it?

If that phone is on MDK it can run anything really without an issue. A ton of options are available for it. I'd suggest a Kit Kat ROM myself... Unless your in love with a certain ME7 based ROM .
Does that phone have a custom recovery on it?

Yep, TWRP 2.7.0.1 recovery. It currently is running the AOSP Google Edition ROM, which he is happy with. Can I just change the firmware to ME7 and keep everything else the same?
Thanks!!
BTW, that rom is a kitkat 4.4.2 based ROM.
Also, I forgot to ask......If I change the firmware, can I change back if need be? Any downsides to changing from the MDK firmware?

I'm thinking that maybe Ford Sync works with everything from ME7 and up. I don't think you need to specifically be on ME7.
I've seen others on here running Kit Kat ROMs and having no problems with Ford Sync.
Your list of ME7 based ROMs isn't going to be that big. However you have many many options of 4.3 ( MJ7 & MK2 ) and 4.4 ( NC5 ) ROMs to choose from.
What ROMs have you tried? Some have minor Bluetooth connectivity issues

If you flash a firmware. ..you will lose the mdk. ..so don't do that...you can flash others roms and kernels that won't effect the firmware.

Thanks a bunch guys! That's what I was afraid of, regarding the firmware. Hmm......he was running a different rom before when he had all the issues. We just went to this rom recently and he went back to his GS3 until I could sort this phone out. I'll have him try the GS4 again with this rom and see if it works any better. Thanks again!!

My GS4 has worked with Sync when running ME7, MI1, MJ7, MK2, and NC5. Never had any issues since I got the phone.
(Sure wish it had been a MDK phone, of course.)
Hello there, xda! I've been having quite a few issues installing Cyanogenmod (and many other custom ROMs) onto my Gs4 and was wondering if someone might be able to walk me through the steps of installing the custom ROM on my specific device. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from Verizon with Android 4.4.2 and NC5 as my baseband.

If you don't have the MDK bootloader with the Loki hack, you cannot run CM and other AOSP based roms. There is a ROM however that's safe strap compatible

Thank you for that suggestion! But do you know if it's possible to downgrade from NC5 to MDK or earlier versions? I would rather do that than use safestrap, honestly.

Nope. Not possible at all. Your only option is Safestrap.

Can you re download the OF1 stock image, and run it through Odin, and give us those logs that appear?

Hi guys, I'm new here and need some advice. Please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area.
I've been reading over Stang5litre's rom development thread, but I'm not 100% sure on how I should go about flashing his rom from my standpoint. I've recently purchased a Verizon Galaxy S4 that came with stock OC1 5.0.1 and kernel version 3.4.0 from March 30, 2015. I also rooted my phone with Kingroot. Should I use Stang5litre's OC1 Installation procedure?
Thanks

Okay so I've managed to successfully flash Stang5liter Edition 5.0 rom with the OC1 installation instructions provided on his thread.
Did you ever figure this out?
