Is there any workaround to root a note 5 if the bootloader is oem unlocked?

I see in the threads that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha SM-G850A (AT&T) cannot be rooted due to having a locked bootloader. What about unlocking it and then rooting? Could that work? How would I go about doing that?
