Hello guys,
Sorry in advance if i wrote this thread in a wrong section, however I'm out of options here :/
Everything is great and streaming works with google photos, youtube etc, however the one thing that doesn't work is chrome for android app. Whenever the cast button is available while html5 video playback, my chromecast starts to load the stream and then it goes back to the background screen :/
Anyone have faced this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi, I'm using the Resurrection Remix Rom for My Galaxy S2. One thing that bothered me is that when I play mkv videos, stutters happen. I used mx player for this and I know it's not normal since when I was using a samsung based rom, none of this stuttering appear. So what's the problem? is their anything i'm missing to get the same smooth video play on a samsung rom?

Solution is to back to 4.1.2 because Kitkat is ported to our device and still is missing proper drivers from samsung. On 4.4 games doesnt work like on JB. Samsung never roll out drivers for s2 for kK because there is no official KK on s2.
Conclusion:
If you want full performance with games and HD things try custom rom for egzample wizzedkat or neatrom. On this two everything should be work like a charm

Miracast is not working, that is, you can send the display by youtube but it does not work in another application, you can not do a screenshot on tv phone does not search for available devices. Do you also have this problem.

You need to have root and to add next line to build.prop file:
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Save and reboot your phone.
I managed to find an app to change the resolution Easy DPI Changer works great.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chornerman.easydpichanger&hl=en
However even at 1080P Youtube Videos play at low resolution. You manually have to check HQ to get them to play at better resolution. Does anyone know how to force Remix OS to play all Youtube videos in HQ?
I can only assume that Netflix videos will also play in low resolution. I haven't tried Netflix yet.
As far as I know this depends on the app settings or internet speed.
YouTube app should play videos in highest available resolution depending on internet speed.

Not so sure about that. I have 60Mbit/s download and 10Mbit/s Upload and my Nvidia Shield Android TV always plays everything in HQ but on Remix OS I have to manually click the HQ icon
I understand. I don't know how the YouTube app decides on the default quality, but it looks like it depends on the hardware.
Most likely it doesn't have your GPU/CPU on it's "list of 720/1080p fully capable hardware" and that's why it doesn't automatically pick the highest resolution.
Still... it's just my deduction.
Easiest way to enforce YouTube behaviour from Nvidia Shield would be to fake your Remix OS hardware info by changing GPU/CPU info with the NVIDIA Shield (or some other hardware running Android officially) info. It should be possible just like setting fake GPS fix.
I'm using a Laptop with an I5 3320m processor, it uses the Intel HD Graphics 4000. I believe this can handle 1080p Youtube in Windows.
Anyways I added some tweaks to my build.prop and at 1080p it stutters too much. I dropped the resolution to 1366x768 since I'm using a 32" TV and it handles 720P pretty good now but struggles with 720p at 60 fps in Youtube.
But now Youtube atomatically chooses resolution up to 720p 60 fps with the modifications to the build.prop
Does Remix OS has good Intel drivers? Anyway to update them if there are better drivers out there?
Have you checked if this laptop can view 1080p videos on Windows?
I don't think you'd be able to view them fluidly on this machine - not from YouTube.
Jide focused on trying to provide best Intel GPU drivers and I think your HD 4000 won't work any better.
You could update drivers, but that would require building your own kernel which is a pain, because Jide posted no documentation on how this should be done. Additionally their kernel source repository gives errors on build trials...
All in all, know that on Remix OS YouTube videos will play best in the YT app. In browsers they usually have worse framerate.

Ok I just tested YouTube on a external monitor in Windows with resolution at 1920x1080.
I tried playing some trailers tagged 1080p 60fps which really lag on Remix OS. For some reason the video only goes to 720P when playing in Windows but it plays smooth.
On Remix OS when the same video plays it's tagged as 720P 60fps and it lags, the video/audio is choppy at times.
This is the video I tested
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeK-d553Mjk
I also tested it in Windows on another Laptop that has a i5 4300U with an Intel HD graphics 4400 GPU
and on this one it lets me pick 1080P 60fps in Chrome and it plays smooth. I think on the other laptop it only went to 720P because I was using IE
**Edit**
Ok I installed Chrome on the other Laptop and in Windows it seems to lag a little in 720p 60fps and 1080p 60fps, not as much as in Remix OS but there is some lag every few seconds.
The i5 4300U with an Intel HD graphics 4400 GPU does not seem to have this issue. I guess YouTube 720p60 and 1080p60 are demanding and the HD graphics 4400 GPU does a better job
I did one more test.
In Chrome I went to chrome://flags
and disabled Hardware-accelerated video decode and now YouTube 1080p60 videos seem to play smooth on the i5 3320 with the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card since it's using the CPU for hardware acceleration now
Does anyone know how to make Remix OS use the CPU and not the GPU for hardware acceleration? This probably will fix the stutter in YouTube.
@saulin78
As far as I know it's not possible to set Software Renderer on a per app basis. The app either has to have special codecs like MX Player has (HW/SW mode) or you need to boot the whole system in SW or HW mode.
For YouTube or Chrome apps on Android HW/SW switching is NOT possible.
You can try booting Remix OS in full SW rendering mode - CPU will handle all graphics.
This mode usually provides much worse overall performance which is self-explanatory.
From experience I know in this mode even high end CPU's can't handle high res video playback.
To test, you need to boot the OS with special kernel parameter in grub boot menu:
Code:
androidboot.swrast=1
Here is the info on how to apply the parameter: Guide
@Vioner
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually ended up tweaking my build.prop with suggested settings from other forums and this one and still the YouTube app struggles with 720p60, the video is not choppy anymore but the sound cuts in/out, however the videos play smooth using the Chrome Browser and the sound is fine there so I'll just use that
Chrome browser for Android is simply much different from the Windows/Linux one and it can't provide the same performance.
I'm glad you reached a somewhat acceptable scenario.

Hi guys,
I'm using AEX v4.4 with amigo kernel. Im having trouble playing some 720p and 1080p video from movie HD or megabox (using default video player) also when I download a video or recording with camera app there is a green line at video thumbnail. Because of this I can't send video through whatsapp. I'm using vulkan but I don't think it have anything to do with this problem right. Please help me. Or anyone suggest me a nougat rom that does not have this problem.

Heyyo, eh I'd recommend using MX Player. It's pretty much the only video playing and streaming app for Android that works properly with hardware acceleration. Back on my OnePlus One it was pretty much the only way to watch 1080P videos properly.
Amigos kernel was good but development stopped quite a while ago as Shivatejapeddi has moved onto Oreo development. I'd recommend a different kernel such as BS or BSi Kernel or Darkobas (OmniROM) kernel found on other ROMs.
About kernel - ROM Slim7 is working on BlackScreen 3.6.2, ROM and kernel works very good, maybe worth trying?
Hello,
Is there a way including or not rooting the phone to have the image from an external camera being broadcast to third-party apps such as Messenger, Whatsapp or Skype?
My use case is such that as a blind person I would like to send what a wearable camera sees to someone on the other end in order to allow this person to describe what's in front of me. I think something like Gopro attached to a smartphone as long as it can work in a webcam mode would do the trick.
So far I only found apps that let one record videos from external cameras but no mention of a way to make the camera the primary device throughout the system.
Any advice is highly appreciated.
kind regards
Paweł
