Which Android version for GT-I9100G? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm between two Android versions on my GT-I9100G. CM 4.4.4 or OmniROM 5.1.1 will better on my GT-I9100G?

That depends entirely on what you want out of the rom......
As we don't know what your 'ideals' are, we can't really advise you. Everybody wants different things / have different 'feature priorities' to everybody else.....it is also against XDA rules to ask which/best rom type questions.......
The only thing I will say is that currently, LP roms are worse for battery life than KK roms.....In terms of other differences, you're just going to have to try the roms to see which one best suits your needs.....
Happy flashing/experimenting...
Just remember to back up your EFS folder before you do anything else...

Good choice.....CM is always a good place to start.....it gives you the basic 'feel' of a custom rom before you move to other roms with extra tweaks and features that might not be in CM.....

Anyone wanna spare me sometime and suggest a ROM and Kernal.?

Hey guys. I am kinda overwhelmed by the number of ROMs and kernals around. I saw modems too but dunno what they are. Heres my info:
Baseband:I9100DDKE4
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555 [email protected] #2
Hope thats alls needed. I wanna try our MIUI. But I saw stuff like bluetooth isnt working there. I dont wanna lose any functionality. Is CyanogenMod my best bet? Are there any other good stable mods I should check out? And whats a good Kernal? Which wont affect battery performance.
Thanks for your time if you reply.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850
read throughout the first page and then go to the last page as well of the thread cause they just updated the rom and scripts..so you will enjoy using that rom i know i did since i beta tested it..
and battery life with the right settings you can get 2 days out of it..give it a try your not losing anything..
and regarding cyanogen id wait till they make it more stable

1. Modems are the drivers for the mobile connections if you flash a newer one it can improve your network speed but it really depends were you live etc so it different for every person.
2. If you're a beginner with flashing I wouldn't start with any AOSP ROMs like Cyanogen or MIUI.
3. I would recommend Villain ROM for the beginning. It's clean and basic and it comes with Nimphetamine Kernel. Also the guys there are really nice and like to help if you have some problems.
Hello there OP!
If you want a completely different Android experience, go for the CyanogenMod 7.1 release candidate. Bluetooth and other important stuffs are working, read the thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297557
If you want a very stable ROM with bloatware removed, I recommend you Cognition 1.5.1. The developer only uses official firmware releases, not leaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
Though before you do all these you do need to have your phone rooted first!

i know mate i been there so i know how it feels wanting to ask these questions...but you have some ideas from myself and other people as well so do your reading and choose the one you want..to be honest if i was you id flash a few before deciding which one to stay with..each thread of the roms that i have used everyone is friendly and everyone is helpful so you should be fine...anything you ever need hit me a message and i see if i can help ya
Thanks you everyone. I was just being lazy. Chose Lite'ning Rom and SiyahKernal2.0. Both should play well right? Will I need to recong. all apps?
Loads of roms available but I'd recommend a rom based of 2.3.5 improvements are better than earlier releases.
Then you can choose from the various kernels and modems to customise.
Once you get the hang of flashing and such you can try out others like cm7, which itself works pretty good now and offers a complete aosp experience.
Touchwiz roms are polished though and work very well. By going to CM7 and such you will lose some stock functionalities such as the good camera app, better stock email, and other bits and bobs.

i think LeoMar75 Revolution Rom v2.7.1 and SpeedMod t41 kernel is the best choice.
battery friendly and really fast!!
no lag in SPB Shell 3D launcher and other apps. also revolution rom is really customised!
(my english is not good as i come from Hong Kong)
GingerMod 0.6. Based on 2.3.5.
Fast. Using Siyah kernel with it. Amazing battery life, amazing benchmark scores.

[Q] Which Rom!? Help ! :)

Hey everyone
I currently use CM9 and love the experience, however I want the stability and all the hardware to be working of stock.
My question is there a ROM out there which is built from stock, but has been converted to look exactly the same as AOSP /CM9?
Anything close?
Thanks !
I use WanamLite. Its based on Stock Samsung but pure ICS themed. I recomend it.

try foxhound. from reading that thread it is more or less has the AOSP feel. but next time ask in the right forum mate the Q&A section and also maybe it is best to search and find the one that you might think is appropriate cause there is no point having to wait for others to tell you

err...most of the roms in the android dev section are based on stock and are themed to look like aosp
Have you even bothered to look?
Read & search, this question is so trivial it's clear you've done neither

Choosing between some ICS Roms

So i want to know your opinion between these ICS Roms:
1. Cyanogen Mod 9.
2. FOXHOUND 0.2 Cyano+Aokp
3. Slim ICS
I can't decide between these 3 Custom Roms, what is the fastest, what's the "cleaniest" and if they support Siyah Kernel.

This is a Poll, and i didn't say what is the best Rom from here without knowing any names, just wanted a comparation between these 3.
I think that this belongs to Q&A section, but I'll answer I think that you should try CM9 first.. It's really clean and fast! Then you could give a chance to the others: had a shot to both roms and they are really good but MAYBE not as clean as CM9.. I say MAYBE because I'm not so expert As an alternative to CM9 I suggest ParanoidAndroid, that is based on CM9 and comes with Siyah.. This great rom is wisely supported and adds some more features to stock CM9(such as the tablet mode fully working and other fantastic features that provide you the best android experience!)
Hope it helped

Pretty simple to read 3 threads and see what the difference is and by the time enough people voted and gave their opinion for your poll to be significant, you could nandroid and try all the ROMs yourself.

Best rom based on cm9?

Can anyone tell me some good roms based on cm9? I want to downgrade as cm10 has some bugs that annoy me, but I can't find which roms are the most popular.

If u don't mind aokp roms which are stable too Use RootBox 1.8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696419
You'd have to do the hard hours going through the forums for the best ROM that'd suit you mate. Asking for a best rom is against the community rules. Go through Gabowinter's index for a convenient listing of all ICS roms and take your pick.
Search, read and try them out yourself.

Get Back You Beast!!!! Have you a robot addiction or what? You probably got the wrong device for masses of rom, You should have picked up a Nexus, they pretty much have a rom for each day of the month!! there the CM10 Rom which is usuable
If there's a particular rom you like why don't you have a go at porting it, Folks will help you out if you show some initiative
Also XDA isn't the Biggest forum for archos devices, It's the Best, Obviously because we're all here, ROLF but definitely not the biggest, You might have known French for that
Well I thought I would ask..
I dont really mind that much, Im happy with Surdu`s rom.. I do understand what its like making roms, Im the insanity jb rom maintainer for sgs2, but thats another story

O.K. i see...
Surdu is simply the fastest and seems to build custom ROMs while sleeping
As you see, he created the sticky thread and is very helpful person, that's why he got so dominant on building ROMs.
The best working ROMs are all based on stock... and got more or less customizations.
AOSP and AOKP types (CM as well) are not yet completed, because of the proprietary files inside the Android OS.
There's more reverse engineering to do, to make all peripherals work.
By starting with one of the slim&fast ones from Surdu, you could easily create your own
Simply use a linux host and loop mount the images as ext4.
Depends on the grade of customization, but in most case it would be enough to tweak the system image and leave the kernel+initramfs just in place.
