I have decided to sell my Ascend Mate 2 since I received an email from Huawei indicating that it can not be upgraded to Lollypop.. What I would like to do is unlock the device so that it can be used on other carriers. I think this will make it easier to sell. But I'm worried about the best way to get it unlocked. About two and a half weeks ago I called Consumer Cellular and one of their technicians agreed to unlock it for me but it didn't work out. After his attempt to unlock the phone, it would not work at all. Each time the phone would boot up it displayed the message "Phone is SIM network locked." And all attempts by CC to resolve the issue failed. After a number of phone calls, CC agreed to replace the phone. I received the replacement phone two days later. After that experience, I have some concerns about trying to unlock it again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It will answer all your questions about unlocking, and updating your phone. Once your phone is unlocked you will be able to flash Lollipop, and Marshmallow ROMS.
What you are asking for is a "Carrier Unlock" to do so you need the carrier or Sim unlock code, either from the carrier provided or Ebay

I received a Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-i717 from an AT&T rep a year and a half ago, but never used it as a phone. It was just used on wifi with stock ROM for testing purposes. A couple months ago, I wanted to unlock it to use on another network, so I called up their support and received the unlock code. When I put a T-Mobile SIM in the phone and tried the code, I got a message saying Network Unlock Unsuccessful. I've gone through their support both on the phone and in person and ultimately they are either unwilling or unable to assist me (depending who I am speaking to).
I've tried Googling and going through the forums, but really haven't been able to get the phone unlocked. Is there anything I can do, short of paying some local kiosk an inflated fee to get the phone finally unlocked to use on another network?
Thanks.

I was able to unlock my phone by following the instructions in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124544
I was on At%t as well but they didn't want to give me the code so I followed the instructions provided in the topic whose link is in the previous post and everything went fine
Is there a waiting period after buying SM-R750A from an AT&T store outright with no service, nor an AT&T account? I go to their device unlock page, and it keeps telling me the IMEI is not valid, even though I checked it 20 times and the number matches the box, inside the about gear info and on the receipt? What gives?
I had that same problem when unlocking my Gear S. I went to the unlock site and it wouldn't take the IMEI. I am a customer of AT&T tho and got them on the chat and the person did it on their end. I waited 5 days and AT&T sent me the unlock code. I originally called, but the person didn't know what the device was. You're better off getting them on the chat if you can. I think there's a way non customers can reach them on chat thru their web site.
I purchased mine last night and emailed AT&T when I had the same error. They told me that I had to wait until after the 14 day buyer remorse period before they would unlock it.
Anyone know how to bypass this?
Bullcrap,
You paid full retail price, you get unlock code when you ask for it. It's their problem if you return it.
Call them, give IMEI, get unlocked, done.
If they refuse, ask for a manager. If they continue to refuse, call/email corporate and/or refute charges to your credit card.
As soon as they get a potential chargeback you'll get your code.
I purchased mine from best buy, with no service. Why would I need unlock code? And what is the website to check for one?
Hi recently got one of these that is locked to the consumer cellular and I'm wanting to unlock it to use on net10 at&t. I have been trying to use the service imei unlocker to sim unlock it and they are ridiculously slow and past due according to their EDT. I have sent a email to ask since they are past to see if they are even able to unlock it with surprise surprise no response. So question is if you have the CC variant and recently got it unlocked who did you use and how long did it take? Also since I've attempted to use the imei unlocker service if someone recommends a good quick service could I go ahead use them since I am getting no response back from imei unlocked.

I have a Galaxy S10 Model SM-G973U. (Unlocked T-Mobile phone) and purchased from Swappa several months ago. I used it with Cricket service with no issues until a Nov 4 firmware OTA update rendered the phone LOCKED to T-Mobile, not recognizing the SIM. Checking the settings it said it is "ineligible for unlocking").
* I have never had a T-Mobile account, and bought the T-unlocked versions of the Note 4, and Note 8 over the years without issues with an update locking the phone.
* T-Mobile's own bulletin board acknowledges that firmware updates have caused unlocked phones to lock to the carrier. See here: tinyurl.com/yft7haqd and tinyurl.com/yhwzqefr.
* Went to T-Mobile store (2x) as well as raised this with Twitter support @TmobileHelp). Lots of unhelpful advice (wipe the phone, buy a new phone from them, etc.). I was told a week ago that they would email me with instructions on how to unlock it. That email never came.
* I have a paid-for phone, clean IMEI, but they will NOT unlock the phone unless I can produce the original T-Mobile account number from the former owner.
* The Swappa seller said he bought the phone from a wholesaler, so he doesn't know the account number, but is willing to research to try to get it to me. He has heard also of this last update doing this to multiple Samsung models.
* What @TmobileHelp said to me today is in essence, "too bad", since I am not a T-Mobile customer:
"To qualify for an unlock from us is to have prepaid service with us for more than 40 days. From there so long as you refilled more than $100 on that prepaid account and the device is in good standing we will be able to unlock the device."
Qs: Have you heard of issues with this update? Or any firmware update locking an unlocked phone? Any resolution other than buying 40 days of T-Mobile service to get it unlocked? Purchase an unlock code?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Have you tried sites like unlockboot.com , cellunlocker.net or sim-unlock.net ?

Hows the sites? Many people says that sites are scam
I got scammed by one of them ( iphoneimei.net ). Supposedly they sell the "waiting place in line", until they can unlock it for free. So basically the scam is that they don't sell unlocks.
Then, when the carrier unlock the phone for real (in my case I unlocked my iPhone6 after one year of being in service, officially), they send you the notification that the phone is unlocked. They don't do anything, just somehow read the database of carrier locked phones.
ATT variant S21 purchased at retail from Samsung.com locked to carrier and ATT unlock does not recognize IMEI. Have already escalated to highest tier ATT and Samsung support offered to the public. In ATT's world, if a device is not in their IMEI database, it's not an ATT phone. Samsung claims that unlock codes were automatically shared with ATT when the phone was manufactured. They claim that after the codes are sent, they have no access to the data to provide an individual unlock code at a later date, even at ATT's request.
ATT claims they never received an unlock code for the phone which is why the IMEI is not in their unlock database. Their logic is that if the IMEI is not in their unlock database, it means they never received the unlock code. This logic leaves no room for the possibility of human error or a glitch in syncing data. Oddly, the IMEI is in ATT's warranty database. On ATT support tech suggested that only branded phones sold by ATT stores were supported with unlock codes. This raise the question as to why Samsung would sell a phone that cannot be unlocked and why they would lock it in the first place when it is not being sold on contract?
ATT has requested the unlock code from Samsung during one of my support calls and the request was denied. Samsung CS reiterated the position that they had already provided all codes and no longer had access to them. Third party unlocking services struck out with the IMEI. I can RMA the phone back to Samsung under warranty but likely face the same issue with the replacement. I could try to exchange it in an ATT store as it's in their warranty system but would like to not be setting up a new phone when all I am requesting is a code to remove a soft lock. Samsung's annual preorder trade up deal requires that phones be unlocked which is ironic since this one will likely remain locked indefinitely because the carrier and the manufacturer can't get on the same page. Most consumers with these phones will not realize they can't be unlocked during the Samsung warranty period.
Anyone else have this issue?
If you buy a carrier variant through samsung, you are going to get a locked device. Always buy unlocked if you want it unlocked.
That being said, I've been through this about a dozen times with AT&T. This is what needs to be done:
1- First, try the device unlock portal. This will inevitably fail, because the device isn't in their database. This is fine.
2 - Contact AT&T and be prepared to speak to people who have NO idea what you're talking about. If they say it can't be done, politely end the call and call back in. Ask to speak to *advanced* tech support. Explain that you got the device from Samsung, and you need the IMEI added to the database so you can get the device unlocked.
3 - Explain that you already tried the unlock portal, and they need to email the device unlock team to add the IMEI and get the device unlocked. This takes anywhere from 48 hours to a week, and might get rejected once or twice. If it does, go back to step 2.
4 - If you don't want to deal with that bull****, you can go on ebay and purchase a device unlock. You can either have them search the database for the code (PROBABLY won't work) or some sellers will remotely connect to your machine to unlock the device. I did it in the past for $30, looks like it's $60 these days.
I am seeking a high level contact at Samsung because this is a B2B policy issue which their technical support team, after multiple calls, has been unable and unwilling to help resolve. If anyone on XDA has a high level contact person at Samsung, please DM me. I will put them in direct contact with the AT&T Office of the Executive personnel attempting to resolve this issue and insure that it does not impact other customers.
Did you read my post? That is, step by step, exactly how to solve your issue. if you followed my instructions it would have been unlocked by now.
This has nothing to do with Samsung, this is an AT&T issue. And trying to find a "high level contact person" won't do you any good.
Follow. The. Instructions.
