A simple SMS redirect? So confusing.... - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read and read and read apps just for a simple redirect of the text of the sms to my gmail email account. It's confusing. I would like one that does not require the phone to be on. I have it off most the time while home, battery issues. But if someone did send a text message would be nice to know by coming to my email. They all are so confusing. I tried several and they didn't work. One worked but the cell phone needs to be on? How does that help. If I get a text I'll just read it from the phone. But what, as I said, if you want to leave the cell phone off and get them in your email. Anyone know of a simple solution via and app? Thanks so much! jackdashack

Hiding Text Messages

I don't particularly want to have my phone locked and needing a password to get in, but at the same time, there are messages from some people I would feel better that someone who found my Hero couldn't read.
Is there any way to 'hide' messages received from certain contacts?
Did you ever get this sorted? As I am trying to do the same thing.
This apps purports to do what you want:

I've no idea if it works as advertised.

Dave
Thanks for suggestion, having looked at it I realised I miss read the original post.
I was trying to stop the first line of the text mesage showing on the lock screen or task bar when it is received. For example, on Winmo there is a checkbox for 'display message on screen', I have it unticked so I have to go into messages to read it.
Dont suppose anyone knows how to do that?
Sorted
Just in case there was anyone else wanting to do the same as me, I found an app on the marketplace called SMS Popup that does it.
Actually Handcent SMS does a better job.

Google Voice Issues

I have no idea what I did but I screwed something up. I prefer GV for my voicemail and have used it for a while using my Sprint number. Recently things got messed up somehow on GV and I had to go through authorization again, but this time I did that thing they are doing to streamline your Sprint and GV number (I never use my GV number anyway). Well, my voicemails goes through GV but so does text when I prefer Handcent for texting. How do I get texts back on Handcent?
Also, how do I prevent duplicate texts sent to the stock messaging app? I keep my text log clean in Handcent only to find all of them stored in the stock app.

you need to install voice on your phone again if you have uninstalled it, then start it up. After you are signed in you need to sign out. Not just close the program, you need to sign out. This same thing happened to me, for 2 days after I uninstalled voice I received zero text messages so I reinstalled it and rooted around until I saw the "sigh out" button. End result is Handcent is working again!!!! Hope this helps. As far as the dup texts,...... no clue I hate that too.
Oh man thanks, that fixed it.
If anyone has info on my 2nd question it would be much appreciated.

Ok, so I did some digging, I am also annoyed by the dup text. My solution was to use root explorer and go into the file system and delete the native messaging app. Hope this helps.
from what I've done lately every time i install voice again, it will disable sending text to your phone, your regular text app, so usually i would need to use a browser to go to my voice page, go to voice settings, edit my number, and check the box that says send text to my phone, hopefully this helps you guys

[Q] push does not push?

hi,
i have an htc HD2 with the android energy rom. but it seems that all programs have to "ask" activly to the servers if they have something, while i thought android could handle all push notifications? for example, whatsapp, at first it worked well, but now i'm not directly getting messages. when i open whatsapp i smetimes get messages that are send 30 minutes ago, while the whole idea of whatsapp is that it can be used instead of sms, hust having my phone standby in my pocket must be enough to get directly, not even 1 miunute later, the messages others send to me, just like sms does. the same problem i have with my gmail application, he only syncs when i open it, while it has to be like sms, directly push it from the server to my phone, if i ask for it or not, just what the word push say, but no, i open the application, and messages of the day before come in... :S does someone knows how to solf this, or is there a way to check if my provider hi(kpn, dutch) blocks things?
Bart

Problems with text messages and contacts

Hi Im having a lot of problems with my text messages and contacts. I get the notification that I got the text message but when I open it is not there. And when I text somebody the message is not showing in the thread. Also on text messages when i press compose and type the name of a person I know I have it will not show any results. I have to close it and try and always on the 3 try it shows.
And with my contacts , whenever I try opening "people" it takes forever to load , and sometimes it doesnt even load.
My phone is bone stock. not rooted or anything. This where some of the issues I was having with my rooted EVO 4G when it was rooted and was running cyanogen mod 10 thats what was keeping me from installing a rom. But is pissing me off. i cant answer my phone at work so i text everybody A LOT. So its annoying. is there a fix for this. Its stock so I dont get it. I have done the updates , I havent deleted anything or stop updates on anything. WTF!!
can anyone help me with this.
Do u have your contacts backed up thru a gmail account or in phone memory? I remember that happening once or twice where people wouldn't show up when I searched. Was also when I first got phone unrooted and completely stock.
Can u open text message app and compose from there? Searching people for me is too many steps.
Do u have a lot of resources being used on your phone? Can't think of much else that would help u being unrooted other than to reset phone to clear your caches. Maybe delete some texts u don't need anymore? That will speed up the text loading.

How do I reset the phone , what exactly will it erase. Now is happening with all my notifications like email and ebay notifications. I receive the notifications but my inbox is empty and I refresh and theres nothing there
Hold down power until the lights start blinking for a simulated battery pull is what I'm saying. U can try to factory reset. U will have to call sprint and ask them for your msl number for a factory reset. There u will have to dial a ## number, I forget what the exact numbers are. Ask the sprint tech when u get msl.
But it could be something simpler and I really think the answer is in your settings somewhere. Are u forwarding your messages by chance? Are they deleting after u view them by option? Idk man. I'd have to see it in action and mess with it myself.
I have the contacts issue too. Usually means no caller id loads or I can't pull up my contacts list. Usually get an error msg about acore not responding as well. I don't know what can be done about it.

My data is being intercepted by a stalker...

When I send or receive an image via SMS, someone sends a screenshot of my message and the picture I sent/received to my friend. Same when I send/receive an email and/or attachment. They were able to do so with my FB messages as well. I have even downloaded a texting app, created a completely new and random number, and sent/received a message and image, and almost immediately my friend was sent a screenshot with the number, message and image. It isn't them just sending a screenshot, they send their own messages along with it like "i'm watching you" or "there is no limit on the information I can get".
I've scoured the internet and posted several posts asking how this is possible and have been told what I already knew, which was that it wasn't possible unless the person had access to my phone at least once, to install some sort of monitoring app or something. As far as I'm aware, no one has had access to my phone physically. I've reset all of my passwords for all email, social media, etc. and even enabled 2-factor authentication. It still continued. I did a factory wipe. It still continued. So i'm at a total loss at this point. I'm thinking my next step would be a firmware and/or software flash but would that do it? What would the flash remove that the wipe couldn't? And is it best to do both, or just one or the other? Any help would be much appreciated as I am losing my mind and I can't seem to find any answers!
Does this person work for my carrier? Are they some master hacker? SIM hack? I have no clue...

Malware can be injected with something as simple as an e-mail attachment or SMS but these are not easy to come by. Or someone gets close to you and uses your Bluetooth connection to plant malware. Another option would be someone duplicated your SIM but that is like NSA levels of tech. The easiest way is to factory wipe and not turn on Bluetooth or the wifi. If that does not work flash a custom ROM. And i would file a police report these kinds of people tend to be edgy and might resort to worse if they can not keep grabbing your attention.
