I am looking for a way to connect an external camera with HDMI or Video OUT and display the signal in liveview on an Android phone. Anyone knows of a way of doing this... I need HD resolution ... Maybe there is HDMI to USB Host converter and then an Android app that will display the video from the USB host ...

1. So I've heard that a HDMI cable works the same way as the HD dock, does it let you open theater mode(forgot the actual name) or hdmi mirroring with just a cable?
No mirroring yet. Theater mode pops up as an option when plugging in a HDMI cable. with a long enough cable it works as a great remote control.
2. Does the 'Theater' mode play video that was not created on the device?
Yes, but you should check the supported codec list on motorolas website, I have had some problems with some obscure audio codecs.
3. Does the Android window in webtop mode let you scale the app or is it a fixed size?
Yes its scalable, but there is borders on the screen that prevent it from stretching to the entire screen
4. Has anyone tried using storage(such as a keydrive) or wireless keyboard/mouse(2.4GHz not bluetooth) in the usb ports on the HD dock or the Laptop Dock?
FAT32 usb drives seem to work, haven't gotten to try a usb 2.0 hdd. Wireless 2.4GHZ peripherals work fine.
so HDMI mirroring is out i know that but still havent been able to test any of the rest of this in my trip to AT&T, as someone had locked the fingerprint reader to their print lol
Hello to all,
From what i've read, host mode USB is enabled only in 3.1 and up, but i'm wondering if anyone has had some form of success in getting digital audio out to a DAC via USB on phone or multimedia dock, or the HDMI?
Thanks
Any idea if this can be used to display nook's screen on a tv?

It would be really cool if it did, but as far as I know the Nook does not have MHL.
A micro USB connector is only five pins, but if it's implemented in the device they can be switched between:
USB peripheral or host interface
Analog audio headset with microphone
MHL video output
Debugging UART serial port
Unfortunately, the Nook has only been proved to support the USB interface.
USB to VGA
well I have seen these USB to VGA on ebay
could this work?
It would be very interesting to get a USB to video adaptor working.
It might be a long road to getting it to mirror the Nook screen transparently.
The first step is to find something with Linux drivers.
The next step is to get it to expose its frame buffer on the system.
At that point, it would be possible to make an application to copy images between the two frame buffers.
Even that might have some utility for Power Point style presentations.
nook PC?
sounds plausible. would be also nice to be able to use Nook like PC.
Hi everyone,
I am trying to connect a Head Mounted Display to my Galaxy SII and am able to connect it using a Micro USB to VGA MHL Adapter. I can look at the screen output ,gallery and other apps but I cannot use the Camera app.
I was wondering if there is ANY possible way (custom Rom,override some kernel file etc ) by which I can use the Camera app while showing the HDMI output ? .I was thinking of using 3rd Party Bluetooth cameras like Looxcie but it seems they dont provide any API . Another option would be to connect and external usb webcam through the adapter,But i am not sure whether I would be able to compile/find the appropriate drivers and whether i could access the camera from the Android SDK.
ANY pointers/tips/suggestions would be really appreciated
Thanks !
Try with 3rd party camera app, like lgCamera.
Has there any Apps been made to connect a Webcam through the OTG just because be interesting to make it into a video recorder/viewer?
