I am taking no credit in the release of the OTA files these were from lightningdude and credit goes to him for his efforts to bring these files out. Files size is around 43mb, but I am guessing that it is compressed and when it flashes it uncompresses to 63mb.

What we know so far it looks like flashing the OTA removes all possibility for root and early signs suggest that the methods for unlocking our bootloaders has been patched. So anyone who OTA's is not able to root and or unlock your BL.
I dont know much about developement of these files and am merely bringing them out to the masses in hopes of some good stuff to come from it, and again dont thank me, thank lightningdude.
DON'T THANK ME, Hit THANKS for lightningdude
Dang, j-greg, I didn't think it needed such bold font.
On-point: Is there any way to actually open this thing? I mean, there's got to be, if our phones update from it, right? There must be a way!

I am messing with the files now trying to see if it can uncompressed if it is. And the font is so big because someone already thanked me for the post, and I dont think its right I get the thanks as you were the one who brought them out... I'm just a messenger. So big font to get peoples attention to thank you not me
I think these are compressed with some sort of compression method, maybe proprietary.
I'm guessing this patches the bootloader.
If so, time we overthrow Verizon. With a lawsuit.

I dislike VZjust as much as the next guy, but VZ feels that if you are a subsidized phone with a plan then the phone is not yours until the contract is up. For me i bought my phone off ebay to replace the total crap that is Motorola Droid 2 Global (loved the keyboard, hated the Motorblur and locked BL)
But I agree, VZ is raping everyone who has a wirelss plan with them, but no news here all Carriers do that.
My phone was free so they have no right to say what we can and can't do with our phones

Free with a 2 year contract or free from someone you knew? If its free from a contract of 2 years to them they own the device for the length of the contract. I am not trying to support VZ, just saying that I have seen attempts (not firsthand) of people trying to sue VZ or other carriers for the same thing and they are always squashed

Hey, maybe it's because my BL was unlocked with the testpoint method, but I still have full root. I returned to stock with the .88 ftf file and then rooted it. I ran tha OTA Rootkeeper also. Once the FOTA was finished, I checked and I still have root without even touching the OTA Rootkeeper program. I ran Root Checker, and it verified I have full root access as well.

You can try and fastboot recoveryplay.img and do a nandroid, dont need an unlocked BL for that.....

Don't think you can hotboot without unlocked boot. But if has kept root he can install the recovery installer app or the manual way to install it (thread in this section of the forum).

Hey guys,
Do any of you know how I can place my rom, and push it as an OTA Update like Sprint. What files do I need to accomplish this? I have already looked at OTA update center and its great, I would just like to push them without my people having to root. I have a server set up, just don't know how to have everything point to the right place. I'm familiar with the boot_delta.bin and android_delta.bin files along with others needed for an OTA Update. Also, i know you have to edit things in the build.prop as well. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks
I want it too, I think it's a great idea.
You wan't to add it to your custom rom which is not even rooted? WHAT???

My custom rom is rooted, but I am wanting people who get the device from a specific company to not have to go through the rooting process and just push my Rom OTA to their device using a server just like Sprint does. Hope this makes some sense, thanks

Not possible....the way sprint or other carriers are able to do it is because they pass the security/verification checks...unless you can figure out an exploit/hack its not possible
Basically you would need to figure out how to first root the phone, and then get a custom recovery...there have been some apps in the past that can achieve root...but most phones have those patched by now...so it definitely is possible, just not probable

You can take a look at goo.im the users will still have to have a custom recovery to flash the ROM

Well, with a custom recovery it IS possible without root.
What you also could do is make an app who's exploiting a bug in the Android system to gain root. Do this with the permission of your users. If you execute the exploit, you have a root prompt, you could fetch the device name, and download a suitable recovery for it. Let the user confirm this, and download it.
I recommend to wrap it in a nice UI, like this.
- Get root
- Fetch recovery (menu to choose device)
- Flash recovery
From there, you CAN execute your OTA updater app. Note this only works on devices where all partitions are writable with root. For example my phone's (i9300) recovery partition is writable with root.
Hope this helps,

Very cool, you come up with that idea all by yourself? Reguardless, there is user intervention required. Whether it be for the custom recovery, bootloader unlock, root. Nothing, when it comes to this comes that easy. ****, even the Nexus phones you need to reboot into the bootloader, no app from the device can do it all sorry.
I'm dev-unlocked and have TWRP installed, no root yet.
what's the consensus on the better/stable/happier su package, supersu vs superuser?
ALSO and almost more importantly, where can i find a flashable zip for either. i know everyone says just flash a rooted ROM, but that's not what i want to do. just looking for a file i can flash in recovery or push via adb. been searching and can't find any options that don't redo everything at once (ie. dev unlock and install recovery)
already been through all of that, just want to add root. thoughts? links? non-sequiturs?

yeah, that's where i'm at. the tutorial/everything page has everything you could ever want if you were starting from zilch; but no "here's just the su binaries and app" zip that i can find. there's every variety of "one click" solution but it doesn't seem like anyone publicizes the step-by-step pieces.
i did dev-unlock and then flashed twrp via fastboot because i wanted a nandroid backup of my "virgin" setup. now if i could just push su to it i would have my setup/ROM with root and not have to wipe my phone and start with somebody else's. not that i'm knocking those efforts because at some point i'm going to start flashing ROMs on this thing, but i'm not ready to blow away all my data just to get root. of course there's always the remote possibility that i could flash the stock 2.13 rooted rom and restore my own data partition and it would work without being flaky, but i never had success doing that on my transform.
i guess i could always download one of the one-clicks and tear it apart and see if i can't figure something out on my own, but i have no experience doing that whatsoever

You can't flash root to a phone with a zip. You need to look up the specific instructions for your phone, and most likely will factory reset your device.

not yet. my wife was getting made at me for not being fully engaged in her prattling so i had to shut the laptop for the night.
i was looking at the update script and it does some goofy stuff with the maps.apk and youtube.apk that seems to (at least from other comments in the thread) cause some unwanted aggravation with those apps. i asked the question what/why and the answer i got was an assumption that they were being moved temporarily to make sure there was room in /system for the su binaries and then moved back.
i don't know if that's necessary or not, but i kind of doubt it. just like to know what's happening in the background and not monkey with things that don't need monkeyin'.
i've got a working zip for SuperSU v0.96 that i've stripped the stuff out of it that moves around the maps and youtube apks, doesn't seem to be necessary on our devices. sent a pm to chainfire about posting it but haven't heard back yet. or maybe i just can't send pms

Hi there. First thing is making sure you have all the proper drivers installed and HTC Sync uninstalled.
I then installed the app to temp root and ran Firewater. The terminal commands are on the firewater site....if you need more detail or even a step by step, I'm happy to help and write something up. I just can't tonight as I have an obligation to attend to.
Let me know how you make out and if you need additional assistance I'll write something up tomorrow around this time.

Thanks for the reply. I have the instructions for Weaksauce and Firewater, but I don't want to make any mistakes here.
Where can I find the latest HTC DNA drivers without installing the HTC Sync program?
Where can I find the latest ADB download?

You can get the HTC drivers from this post right here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2000896
Ok, download the SDK from here : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html?hl=sk
Make sure USB debugging is turned on. Install the attached weaksauce apk for temp root. You can verify you're rooted by downloading superSU and root checker from the play store.
Unpack the SDK and you'll want to put the firewater file in the folder titled : adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140321
Open a terminal from this folder by holding down shift and right clicking the folder, "open command window here"
Follow the commands given on the firewater site.
Profit.
Once S-off and unlocked go to the TWRP thread in original development and download a recovery. Flash that via fastboot.
Then flash super user zip for root...again, search that out. I'm running out of time so I can't right now...lol
This is all I did. Collect all your files first. Make sure your drivers are good to go before starting. Install the drivers, reboot the pc and plug the phone into the usb. Likely a driver install thingy will pop up with like 5 little circles...let it finish before you begin.
Good luck bro...I'll check in tomorrow or later tonight to see how you made out.

Well, didn't work for me. I am guessing I might have tried to root months ago. I drank a lot back then. When I ran WeakSauce, it said I was already rooted and did nothing. Then I ran Root Check, and it said I wasn't rooted. But I moved on through the steps. But when I got to the last step in FireWater, it said I need to run as root.
I noticed I had SuperSU app installed. So I uninstalled that, uninstalled WeakSauce, re-installed both and started over, but got the same results.
Not sure where to go from here. I almost feel like I should just do a Factory Reset and start over, but that could really screw things up too.
Man, sure am sorry to hear that..maybe a full RUU would fix you up. Then start over...I'm not sure. Maybe someone with more in depth knowledge needs to chime in here..
bummer.....

You know, now that I think about it, I did have full root before, but I wasn't thinking one night and got an OTA update that made me loose root. Maybe that is why I can't use weaksauce. I decided to start in my bootloader. Attached is a screen shot. Tried to go into recovery, but that failed. Just came up with a picture of a battery or something. Had to hold the power button down for 10 seconds just to boot normally.
Does the screen shot tell you anything? It tells me, I think, that the phone is S-off'ed and unlocked. but firewater complained about not being rooted. I am confused.

Hey, your phone is already unlocked! So just flash supersu thorough Fastboot to get root.

As said right above me....you're all set to go. Use fast boot to push a recovery and then flash super su zip. If you need the zip I can attach it later.

Funny. There have been other threads where people are asking how to root DNA 4.4.2. They have been referring them to this thread So I guess I am not SO dumb.
Anyhow, as I remember, there are a couple of ways to flash. 1) from the PC using ADB and from the phone using an IMG file right? What is the easiest way to flash the Recover file? Which version of ClockWorkMod is going to be compatible with 4.4.2 and where would I find the download? Also, one last question, which SuperSU version is going to be compatible and where is the best download?
This tread is closed down. For repair..
Here is the stock RECOVERY AND BOOT.imgs

Will do. I am completely stock, out of the box. So if you need anything before I flash this, let me know via PM.

Everything went without a hitch, but when I try to do a backup... my only option is "Storage: Internal Memory (0mb)" and fails.
Thing is SO TINY, but the size button functions as back. Any help here doing a backup?
If I try anyway, it just gives me a bunch of Unable to Mount: /data, storage, /data/media during GUI startup, /data/media/twrp/ .twrps when trying to read settings file, etc.
I went to "MOUNT" but all I can select is system.
I also am unable to boot now. Every time it boots it wants to boot into Recovery. I am able to flash the stock recovery but it wouldn't boot until I did a Factory Wipe. I tried REflashing the TWRP and wiping from there, but same. It doesn't want to boot with the custom recovery installed.
sorry man. I just woke up. i was sleep. Let me see what I can do. Post 2 has the stock recovery. Try to flash that and see if that fixes the problem.. till I get this fixed..
