Can't Boot To Bootloader Or Recovery On LG V10-RS987 - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, everyone!
I recently purchased a LG V10 and I'm in love (Except for the WiFi latency issues). I was reading up on ways to fix the WiFi lag problem and someone suggested wiping your cache. No matter what button combination I use I cannot seem to get to recovery - I've tried Pwr+Volume Up and Down, and letting off the power button for a second when the LG logo comes up and pressing again while still holding the volume buttons. Nothing seems to work, the most I can get is a white screen that asks if I want to do a factory reset when I try the Pwr+Volume Down method, and with Pwr+Volume Up I get a firmware update screen. If I try using "adb reboot recovery" it will boot to recovery but all I get is the dead Android and nothing else no matter what buttons I press.
I was also curious if I could unlock my bootloader since I haven't seen much information about the RS987 model online, so I enabled OEM Unlock from developer options and used "adb reboot booloader" but all it does it reboot my phone. I've also tried holding the volume buttons while plugging the USB cable and no luck there.
Anyone else with a PS987 had any luck loading to their bootloader or recovery? Any other suggestions for correcting the WiFi lag problem? So far I've tried disabling IPv6 on my router (Don't have the option to disable it) and clearing my cache from storage in Settings.

hi have the same problem
have not found a way around it yet
have you?

Nexus 10 - unlock bootloader didn't go as expected

Hi guys,
I tried to unlock the bootloader of my Nexus 10 before rooting it. Unfortunately, it didn't work and I can't use it anymore (I either have the "Loading X" forever or a dead droid while trying to go to the recovery mode).
I'm used to do that kind of modifications (only on Samsung Galaxy S and S3 though) and I don't know what I did wrong (but I usually flashed with Odin).
Anyway, I used this tool (after enabling the usb debug and allowing unknown sources) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001868
I installed the drivers on my PC (menu 1 in the tool), then I could see my device in ADB MODE (in the tool menu). I tried to unlock the bootloader (3rd option in the menu) and it was written completed. My device reboots and nothing happens. I can access the fastboot mode (is it the download mode ?).
I have Odin.
Can someone help me to get a working device ?
Thank you very much.

Easy fix. Get to the dead droid recovery menu and then press all 3 buttons on the top. You will get into the blue recovery options. Choose factory reset.
Sometimes unlocking the bootloaders scrambles a few things on this device and it goes into boot loop. After the factory reset, you'll be fine. PM me if you still have issues.

Okay, thank you very much. I didn't know I had to press the 3 top buttons again after the dead droid screen, I thought it failed loading the Recovery Mode.
I have to setup my account etc again so I guess it is safe to say it worked.
Additionally, I tried this method after the recovery : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015467
and it worked fine. My device has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted.
hey if someone could help me im stuck myself, after i had the dead android in recovery mode i tried to flash software with the toolkit in fastboot and now when i go to recovery its just a blank screen till i hold the bottom combo again and it takes me back to fastboot

Hey,
I'm having the same problem. I get to the dead droid instead of recovery and tried hitting all three buttons again but it's just looping again.
Any ideas?

It sounds like you didn't actually perform a factory reset. The key combination to get into stock recovery from the dead android screen is Power + Vol-Up. That will bring up the option to factory reset.
So if your powered off or bootlooping, hold the Power + Vol-Up + Vol-Down until you're back in the Bootloader. Use Vol buttons to select Recovery Mode and tap Power. When the droid w/ the Red "!" appears, hold the Power button and quick press the Vol-Up button. This should take you into stock recovery. Select Factory reset. Reboot. After a few minutes, the device should boot normally.
Good luck.

Ok found a video showing that when you get to that part where there's the dead droid (the red !), you don't press hold hold all three buttons but tap them until the recovery screen shows up.
So finally did that but I still have the same problem.
My initial problem was, I received my N10, open the box, turned it on and it started freezing and rebooting. Can't get past the wifi step.
Tried hard and many times to finally get to enter my gmail account, etc
Updated to 4.3, problem persisted so I figured, maybe the factory flashed a bad rom?
So I unlocked it, rooted it and tried flashing older stock versions, same problem.
Tried flashing CM, same; PA, same...
Tried deactivating location service as suggested elsewhere: same; uninstall chrome: same
Even CM withouf GAPPS wouldnt work
So basically, I have a $500 brick. Completely useless as it freezes every 30 seconds.
Decided not to return the device because although I am Canadian, I live in SE Asia and had a visiting friend bring it to me. Way past the return period and the overall experience would be a real pain in the butt... Don't know what to do. Really hoping Kit Kat will solve it but I have doubts.
What do you think?
Sorry. I don't know enough about these things to give more in depth troubleshooting advice. I just recently got my N10 & unlocked it and based on your original post, I thought that's where you needed help. But it sounds like you got past that and got it unlocked.
Have you tried downloading a factory image directly from Google and installing that? If it's locking up on a fresh install of any ROM, it very well may be a hardware issue. You may have to file a warranty claim if possible.

A special predicament

So i hoping someone could give me a hand i have exhausted all of my ideas
My Soft key buttons on the bottom of the phone (menu, home, back, search) have stopped working entirely phone is completely stock never rooted flashed or changed in anyway my first thought was maybe it was a software problem so i booted into recovery my holding vol +/- and power and tried to clear the cache (worth a shot right?) but in Samsung's infinite wisdom they use the Home soft key as select so i am unable to select wipe cache and naturally am unable to select Reboot system as well. i pull out the battery to restart the phone but to my horror the phone automatically reboots into the recovery screen... wtf! tried every combination of buttons physical and soft but i cant select anything in the recovery screen you name it i tried it short and long press of everything even tried booting holding different keys just for the sake of trying.
also tried to connect via adb while in recovery to send a "adb reboot" command but adb will not detect the device tried using every Samsung driver i could get my hands on maybe i am missing something here?
Next i tried rebooting with odin using an empty tar file as mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766399 but it only restarts to the... recovery screen.... for the love of god.
I'm out of ideas and any help would be appreciated i have no insurance and i have another year before I'm up for a renewal.
your phone sounds broken. deactivate it with VZW and go buy something else on swappa/ebay. (i personally recommend the S3, Gnex, or, **** you get another fassy if you want)
Hey dude, I have the stock Verizon ROM and boot loaders installing those should fix your problem and if you don't want to lose what's in your phone I'm afraid friend you're **** out of luck. Pm or call 423 400 6484 I'll give you the pass to the Google drive I use to send ROMs and such. Good luck.

Seeing as the buttons don't work in recovery, what do you think will be fixed by clearing a cache? It's called recovery because it doesn't use that stuff.
Best bet? Try flashing a custom rom which had soft key support and enable them right away. With this phone's penchant for phantom key presses you may have just improved your experience with this phone by having them die.
Time to pony up and flash a real rom
Use Odin to flash a custom recovery, As the last poster said, flash a custom ROM with on-screen key options and use that from now on.
I never use my soft keys in recovery as the power button selects all the options I've ever needed. Have you tried using the power button to select on your phone?

[Q] VivaX TPC-7151 factory reset and recovery help

Hey XDA, you did informed me and help me a lot when I would search for a solution and find it on your forums. But now I had to make account in order to find solution for particular one here (I suppose this is a correct topic, please move if I'm wrong):
I forgot to change a really bad pattern password back to regular slide lock, and I didn't know the combination. After trying few times most combinations that I ha din my head, it suddenly asked me a google account in order to unlock it. Well, I know it, I type it and as soon as I press "sign in", a message flashes that it is loading something (just for a split second) and..... nothing. Still there, at same lock screen. I tried those without @gmail.com and null password but nothing worked, none of combinations. I read somewhere that other solution is wipe data or factory reset. Well, I'm okay with that, but how do I enter recovery mode or boot menu where I can access that?? I don't have USB debugging on, I'm sure of that, and my tablet isn't rooted (it was rooted before, but it went on service once for data wiping and it came back un-rooted I suppose)
I don't have hard reset button, but I do have physical back button on side of tablet that I can click, but I never use it. I tried with holding power button and volume up. When it shows me that image of opened android with red triangle warning sign. I release power button and now I'm stuck with that image on my screen, not knowing what to do! I can press power + volume up again to turn off tablet. Power + volume down activates safe mode and turns on tablet, atleast I discovered that feature...
If you know how to get pass that lock screen that asks for google account, anything how to wipe data with locked out tablet I would be very pleased to hear it (technically see it on here). My tablet is still in its case, locked out, and turned off for now.
Note: If I manage to get to pattern lock screen again somehow, that will also work for me. I'm sure I know correct pattern.
instal moborobo and phoenixSuit go in recovery mode and pres volume ap and power and

[Q] UMI X3 boot loop...

Hello! I don't know where i should post this since the UMI X3 device isn't on this site, so i just post it here...
I installed a custom rom, now it's bootlooping.
If i turn it on it will show the little boot splash screen, then the screen will go black and usually it would show the boot loading screen but it doesn't, it reboots again to the boot splash screen.
I tried searching on google, but none of the forum posts actually helped me.
I try to holds down the power button and the volume up button at the same time, but it will just do the same bootloop thing.
The home button is a touch button, and i actually already tried holding down on that but it didn't work.
I also tried holding power button and volume down, and i tried holding all the buttons down at once (power + volume up and down)... also no succes.
Now it used to work, i got into some chinese bootloader before i installed this rom.
So, basicly it won't get into any recovery. I did install clockworkmod recovery actually and it did work, yet i needed to launch it via mobile uncle tools to get into it. I think im totally ****ed now...
Pleace, is there ANY way to solve this problem?
Problem in a nutshell:
Boot looping splash screen, can't get into recovery mode. (PS: i also tried to connect it via USB but it won't find my phone...)

UPDATE:
I'm now able to get into recovery mode!
However i can't mount usb.
Same problem

Hi Kyriano,
I have the same problem after installing the cynogenmod, does your phone work now. How did you get in the recovery mode??
posible solution
Hi,
After struggling with this issue all day i found a quite simple solution.
The cause of the bootloop in my case was the simcard. So this is what i did:
1. remove simcard tray
2. Turn the phone off and on
3. If everything is ok the bootloop stopped, if not try to reboot again
4. Download mobileuncle in the playstore
5. Open the app click on; into recovery mode
6. Recovery will open and then hopefully you made a backup.Restore it and voila!
If you did not make a back try to flash the official umi ROM.
I hope this solved your problem to.

Can't boot recovery

I need help with booting into recovery mode on E5803 with 7.1.1 firmware. Phone is stock, not rooted, locked bootloader.
The problem is that "adb reboot recovery" simply reboots the phone to OS.
Turning it off, pressing Volume Down and connecting to computer while holding volume down has the same result.
Any advice would be appreciated.

there isn't a recovery for stock.. well.. there is.. but not like a normal ui recovery but it's only used as the OTA loader to upgrade for OEM

Thanks.
My reason for trying to get into recovery was to erase cache in the hope this could resolve some of the sluggish behavior that I noticed after 7.1.1 update. Is there an easy way to do that?
I also got worried that my inability to get into recovery could prevent me from flashing a different stock rom with xperifirm/flashtool. I guess, I should not have a problem.
(I am thinking of flashing a stock rom for a different country in the hope of getting fingerprint working though I did not see confirmations of this working on nougat.)

mmmm try vol up+power
clear the play caches and services
and then try another vol up+ power cycle
edit: the volume up + power button, needs to be done while the device is on... the device will vibrate 3 times and the display turns off to indicate it did it's clear
also - quickly check the app settings page and scan to look for any system apps that appear as 0.0KB / 0Bytes
mentioned it @ the sonyforum https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...of-clean-upgrades-amp-boot/m-p/1243574#M38418
