I've been scouring these forums and the internet for a few years now seeing that after Verizon did the kernel update 3.0.31. I can't say I truly understand since I don't deal with this often and since I moved to Japan I fell off topic even more so. Since its now 2016 I was wondering if they ever found a way to carrier unlock this phone. If it helps my phone is rooted.

I just got this phone, so please excuse me if I state what everyone knows.
That's the kernel I am running, but I have 4.4.2, and I have an AT&T sim in it, but I had to manually switch it to GSM and then choose between AT&T and TMobile network before it would work.
I didn't see any other GSM networks in the list, but I think that after it searched for networks, that is all it could find.

Does anyone know how to unlock RAT access on this version (it is "restricted" in the menu accessed via *#*#197358640#*#*, *#*#4636#*#* does nothing iether), or any type of hack or exploit that can disable TEMPORARILY the Galaxy Note's ability to even detect the presence of any network below 4G? My phone is an AT&T branded device, is NOT currently rooted, and running stock ROM version 2.3.6 (latest update from AT&T) I am not a newb with rooting and such, but would prefer not to root unless no other option exists. Can I use any toys in BackTrack 5 (if you dont know what this is, ignore that I wrote it here ) to access the Note's ROM by chance???

Cheers!
Have tried the same thing by every means I can think of ...
Sadly I've not been successful either. Including root access and 3 different roms. I've not found any method to get below 4g on my ATT note.
Edge is what I need inside my office to get basic service. But I'm failing.
Sorry this isn't a solution, but your not alone in your search.
I've pm'ed a few devs and requested a possible patch to toggle the network switches, and I'll post a reply here if a patch can be found ....g

I decided to go ahead and ROOT> used ODIN. Still stock ROM, still no joy in controlling network bands manually.
Right. Like the service menu says-- restricted
3 roms I'm aware of have these network switches ....and none of them function.
I'm not sure if development is going around them as a non-issue, or the code hasn't been cracked yet.
But I'm seriously considering dropping the note for my inspire, as no service in my office is a show stopper.
I'll give it another month ....then it's bye bye note, and hello 2g in my office that works .....g
The Canadian rom/modem for Rogers is rumored to have a working switch, but all at&t modems are RAT restricted so no developer attacks that issue. Too bad. I want the option.

well,
we have the rom...and we have the modem....
So I guess the question is...If we load up the rogers rom/modem, and set the PTA apn settings from ATT, will it run well enough to test ?
Looks like I've got my evening planned.......LOL
I suppose I could import the stock rom APN's ( all 1352 of them ) into the rogers rom, and have a fighting chance anyway....g
I always fancied a free evening to try it. I almost did yesterday, then Flapjaxxx put out an update.

Effective...but 2 phones ??
What a drag to have two devices every day....
now I gotta wonder, how come I can take my Note sim card, drop it into my inspire, and have every band available and a switch to pick them.
But when I put that card into my note, I'm forced to do the network bounce all day, and no switch with a RAT restriction ??
Is this an onboard chipset that is blocking this feature ?
What is RAT, and how do i kill it ?..:good:..LOL.....g
The modem.bin is the file that defines the way the modem chip interfaces with the rom (sort of). At&t has restricted access to the usual features of the modem like the band selection option.
The Rogers modem isn't restricted. But the rom developer has to include the band selection in the rom, or the user has to select from the service menu. The band selection apps in the market are just a shortcut to the service menu.
Well...
I attempted the Canada rom/modem combo last night. and to be honest, I didnt get past the setup screens.
the phone hung on those screens, and I had to power down and boot recovery to restore.
I'm very surprised that It froze with just a modem...but it's without doubt a different animal...
I'll try again on the rom only, as i've used it before without issue, then see what parts I can bleed into the rogers modem prior to flashing again....g
Well, I flash the latest from flapjaxxx. Love the ROM, and the UCLF6 modem is a bit faster. Still no control of bandwidth frequency, but I am so happy with the baked OS, that I can tolerate it for a while. Still on the lookout for working options, but I don't want to run my Flash binary through the roof iether.... Using TWRP btw, I cant stand CWM.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but has anyone found out how to unlock the RAT menu for ICS?
Saurom 2.3.6 actually lets me switch between HSPA and LTE successfully, but I would like to be able to do this in ICS.
Thanks!
As long as you use a stock at&t modem it will have the RAT restriction.

Is there an "official" post regarding unlocking this phone for gsm carriers? I put mine on straight talk about a year ago and at the time there was not much out there for this phone but with the help of a number of people on this forum and other forums (I don't remember any names anymore) I was able to completely unlock the phone and put it on straight talk. Since then I have been seeing more people doing it though I don't believe there is any easier way to do it than what I had discovered.
Now I would like to make that information easily accessible to others trying to do the same. But before I do so I want to make sure that I am not wasting my time. Any info out there? How are others doing it?

Mine was 2.3.4 with an ota update to 2.3.5.
Short words I unlocked the bootloader and flashed a kddi radio.
It does break the 4g but personally I don't care. I also rooted mine and flashed cm 10.1 (at the time cm 7) at the same time so I'm not even sure when I unlocked the bootloader if the factory ROM was still intact or not.
The ota update kills the bootloader unlock so i don't think theres any chance of flashing the radios untill thats fixed/hacked.
Thats my understanding right now.

I read a few threads and am confused, so I thought I would just ask. I have a few 4G LTE devices for Verizon and am ready to switch to AT&T. Let's just say that Verizon and I had an argument and it is time to switch. Plus I would be saving over $50 to switch to AT&T with a month to month with a BYOP plan.
I visited the AT&T store today and had them insert a SIM into my S4. I get the error "This SIM card is from an unknown source" in the banner. I get a signal strength and a H for where the data symbol 4GLTE is. Then it drops the signal and refuses to have a data connection. At this time the APN settings were NOT adjusted. This was a straight out of the box S4 rooted on NC5 with Android version 4.4.2. After messing with the S4 for awhile he moved to the S3 and entered the proper APN settings. It pulled data, but only at EDGE speeds or 1X. Also, my last device, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, has no way of editing the APN settings. It is NOT rooted and is still on stock firmware.
My questions are these:
1. Can this be done?
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
I do not want to purchase phones with AT&T today because I just don't have the money. I already have these devices, I just want to swap them over. I am comfortable with flashing using ODIN and even so far as using safe-strap. I have flashed some custom roms, but my phone is a daily grind phone and I really want something that works 90% of the time.
Thanks in advance for any help!
EDIT:
None of the codes work either:

That thread just asks if the SIM card would work and if they would need to flash a GSM ROM to their S4. That thread does not answer the questions I asked. I just gave my insight after a visit with the AT&T store. Store techs tend to not know as much as the XDA community. That is why I asked here. So no, it is not a redundant thread. I appreciate your answer, but it isn't what I am looking for. Not a straight up yes or no, this or that.
As for the GSM locks I discussed, it was from an experience I had with a Motorola Droid 2 and using it on a local GSM provider in the USA. So yes, that was pre LTE.

My point, which you apparently missed, is that there is no reason for starting up yet another thread to ask questions that have already been answered. That''s why I said that this is redundant.
OK, let me answer your questions.
1. Can this be done?
Yes, you can install an AT&T SIM, set up the APN, and it will work. What bands you get and what bandwidth you get depends on what bands AT&T are using in your area. You won't likely be able to get LTE speed; most likely just Edge. You can't fix that, as it's a limitation of the phone's radio hardware. Again, some people have made claims that you can flash the AT&T GS4 modem on a Verizon phone and change that, but that's pretty risky as it will likely brick your phone.
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
It works, for some level of "work". If you're stock, some people have reported that the firmware requires CDMA for some functions, like SMS. I haven't verified that. I was able to send SMS with my phone and a UK SIM which uses the AT&T network.
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
Not likely. For example, see here http://phandroid.com/2012/12/10/nexus-4-att-lte/ - the common band, LTE Band 4, has limited AT&T coverage.
I haven't gone over the specs of the two phones lately to match them up, so that may be worth looking at again.

Thank you for your answer. I decided to trade the phones into AT&T and get a credit towards a Samsung S4 and a Asus Padphone X. After I read a few more posts over the internet and a few more hours figuring out how LTE works I came across the answer. I did miss what you meant and I apologize. Again, thank you for your answer.
Sorry for posting in the wrong forum if I have done so! I couldn't find any section for this phone or its variants.
I was hoping to get my phone merged to Straight Talk via CDMA as this phone does not support GSM nor does it have a SIM slot.
Model: SCH-R530X
Model name: GALAXY S III
Country: United States
Version: Android 4.4 [Paranoid Android 4.6 BETA 5 for D2LTE]
Mobile Network Type: CDMA EvDo rev A.
Baseband/Modem: R530XWWUBMK4
Firmware: JSS15J.R530XWWUBMK4
Kernel: [email protected] #1 [Tue Oct 21 21:50:49 EDT 2014]
I have the stock firmware backed up on my system. My APN under Mobile Network > Access Point Names is blank, adding does nothing. Tried resetting, yet my /system/etc/apns-conf.xml contains all the default apns from the stock R530X firmware.
Anyone know how set this phone up for Straight Talk [I have an existing plan]

I've gone through the whole process using both Stock and Paranoid Android ROMS. I've ensured I have the latest baseband, yet I am unable to get the Straight Talk BYOP CDMA to accept my phone. It just refreshes saying there was an error. And ideas? Do I have to add their APN first? Should I have my phone off of Airplane mode when doing it? Should it be set to Evdo or CDMA or WCDMA or GSM/CDMA?
Just a Friendly bump.
I've gotten connection to 1xRTT via CDMA network selection, and EvDo.Rev A using EvDO Only. CDMA was more reliable for the Verizon towers locally, whereas EvDO Would disconnect from service every 15-20 seconds. I still haven't been able to hook this up via Straight Talk. Anyone else able to give some feedback?

When that's done you should be able to point them there to get more help since people with the d2xar seem to be ignored here on xda.

I've been busy with some web development on another project, and getting this Galaxy S4 makes me wish I had my S3 again. Locked bootloader :/ Anways, PM me any info or what, so I can start with some styling. It may be slow, but I'll do what I can.
Hey guys,
I'm from India and I bought the I9300 International version, although the Download mode shows SGH-I747 and unlocked I think. The build number on the device is JSS15J.I9300ZSENA1. It runs on Android 4.3 Jellybean and is the Pebble Blue version.
I'm using Reliance carrier on it and having frequent call drops, connectivity issues and texting problems as well. Then I get this security notice which asks me to boot the device repeatedly and I don't have any clue why that happens.
Now, my main problem is that I can't use the device for calling purposes as well texting.
So, how can I fix this? When I tried to update the firmware, I found the At&t text on it. That made me think that this might be the right place to post. Anyway, will changing the ROM to a Custom one like Cyanogen help to fix this issue? I need some help with this as I spent some decent bucks on it.
Some screenshots that might help.

Disable svoice. Its rubbish anyway.
The call drops could be network signal swapping bands or an issue with the carrier.
If you are sure it's the phone acting up the only real fix is to reflash the stock rom.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
The strange thing is, I9300 is a AT&T version. i always thought I747 was the AT&T version. But anyway, will reflashing the stock ROM work somewhat with call issues?
And thanks for the SVoice advice.
