I recently acquired a Samsung GT-I9100 and it is still on 2.3.5. A lot of the info on here is outdated. Where can I get the update file and how do I install it? Thanks!

[Q] Official samsung firmware

Hi guys,
Sorry if this is a really stupid question but I'm finding it hard to get answers.
Basically I don't think I would use the features on a rooted phone and I don't want to take the risk of rooting it, all I want is to get the updates as soon as samsung release them and not have to wait for my network. Is it easy to install the official samsung firmware and if so can it be done without rooting and is it safe? Also where can you download the firmware and know it's a safe one too use.
The link is a screenshot of my s2 about page if that helps?

Thank you for your help

Official samsung releases are installed through KIES. Unofficial, are installed through Odin. You can download the unofficial releases through samfirmware.com
But kies will only keep updating me when my network release it?
Like now I am on 2.3.3 but there is a newer version than that.
If I get the samsung stock version and install it with odin will kies keep me updated when samsung release a new one?

Do you read what's written on the screen when you go into download mode? Odin is the official method of flashing the official firmware on devices at ALL Samsung service centers. It's true that official firmwares to users are only released through KIES but the same official firmwares are found the firmware thread. They are from Samsung, off their very own server and have been packaged for use with Odin.
edit: OP, look in the dev section for information on how to flash your firmware with Odin.

[Q] Odin V4.28 check image files !!

I've been trying to downgrade the firmware on my Samsung Galaxy Europa to I5500XWJP9.
The reason is because I decided to get the latest update for my I5500 using Kies and after the latest firmware installed I was unable to root my phone using Universal Androot or z4root.
I followed the tutorial mentioned here showthread.php?t=781149, add http://forum.xda-developers.com/ to the beginning.
Downloaded the I5500XWJP9 Android 2.2 - 2011 January (Europe) Firmware from the same thread, got up to step 7 and then Odin displayed the message check image files !!
Does anyone know a fix because I desperately want to root my phone again.

[Q] How to go back to original Gingerbread of Samsung Galaxy S2

Hi,
I am from India and have Samsung Galaxy S2. I was eager to update my phone to ICS and updated it couple of months back. Later i found that it was not an official update.
Now, I want to rollback to the original version of Gingerbread that was installed at the time of buying.
I tried factor reset, but its now working. I am seeing only ICS.
Can anyone help me on how to get back to my original version of my phone or let me know any link where i will be able to find detailed steps to rollback to my original version.
Thanks in Advance
Vijay

How do I update to ICS ?

Hey guys,
I used Odin3 One-Click Downloader to flash UCKH7-CL503881 stock kernel and system package. When I connect my phone to Kies, it says that I have the latest firmware: Android Version 2.3 & Baseband Version UCKK6.
It is not showing the ICS firmware available for update. Could someone tell me why ?
Thanks !
Hey I'm sorry guys. I kept searching after I posted this and magically I found a post that said to type in the serial number of the phone into Kies when the phone is disconnected to download ICS.
Sorry for wasting your time.
Thanks.

[solved] Sw rev check failed any device

The only problem is that you're not flashing the latest firmware, do you? yeah maybe you do but not the latest one what i mean then? let me tell you.. even if your previous firmware was example/ android 7.0 and installing 7.0 will fail why? answer: you need to go to sammobile [for example if your device is Samsung becasue sammobile is the best for samsung firmwares just make sure to download the firmware from there if your device is samsung } and check the date of firmware like the latest firmware location doesnt matter just downoad the latest one, you know what i mean right? for example you need android 7.0 you dont just have to download any 7.0 firmware, thats wrong you have to check the date of firmware and download the latest 7.0 firmware, thats it and i hope you fix your device asap cuz i know the feeling thanks for reading this and good luck !
