Hello! I own an HTC One M8 running the OS version of 5.0.1. My device is not rooted or edited in any way, just to clarify.
Today I needed to send an email, so I went to send it. I was preparing the information such as who to send it to and the subject, when I went to type the email itself. Upon clicking the box to do so, I was given the crash message for Mail. It redirected me to be inbox, and I have searched this problem to no solution. I have been able to recently send emails, however now I cannot do so. It is only occurring when I go to press the field for the email text itself that I crash. I have tried only tapping the text box and no other fields, etc. Possible solutions & if possible causes?
Thank you!

.....im getting sick of htc changing so many features and settings on this phone everytime they release an update. ive got another issue now. not mentioning the dozen ive managed to sort myself in the last day or so.
my text messages are now all over the place. if i recieve a message i hit the message icon on the scroll bar and it opens. reply and then close. normal situation. however. when i want to send another message to the same person either by opening their contact info or hitting the message icon and finding the conversation there is no info at all. wtf!!!
if i go to all messages i get a list of all recipients and the last message either sent or recieved but when i click on that person to reply the entire conversation, 1,2 10, 100 messages that are in brackets next to their name are nowhere to be seen. ive tried removing contact pictures, deleting numbers and attaching them to the contact when a message comes in. no luck. been through the messaging settings, cant find anything else to check or uncheck to resolve this situation. ive no contacts on my sim card just the phone.
cheers. i do need to know if its a general thing with this rom or is my phone just playing up? anyone else noticed this? communications is a big part of messaging and as all phones nowadays seem to be able to record and display conversations with each contact i find it hard to believe htc suddenly decided to bin the idea.
anyone got any suggestions as to how i recover this option as i cant be asked to remember the last few messages of every conversation i have. not to mention important information that i cant access if i cant pull up more than one previous message!
I have the new stock Rom 3.14, and I haven't encountered anything like you've described here. What application did you use to restore the backed-up messages after you flashed the ROM?
fixed this. i had installed a cab recently which disables the annoying 'sent message successfully' notification. but this was also causing the above mentioned problem. unistalling the cab means ive got my conversations back and all contacts/messages link properly. see here for all info and further links... http://www.htchd2forum.com/general-htc-hd2-discussion/more-hatred-for-new-3-14-rom-(conversations)/
Ok guys, I have looked far and low for this answer and tried numerous apps to see if that was the answer but they all give me the same result...
In any email client I use with my Dell Streak, I have to manually add the email of the person I want to send it to in the "To" bar... I can't believe I have to do that.
Is there not an app or some setting that I am missing to where I can pull up the contacts' info and automatically insert into the "To" field instead of having to manually type that person's email.
I know I can go to the contact in my contact list and select to send that address an email or an SMS or whatever I want to do, but what if I want to compose an email and send it to several people, I have to manually enter each address...
Please tell me there is a work around or something that I am missing guys and not doing correctly...
Thanks for all your help in advance!
The stock DELL mail widget does all this. You start typing the contact in the compose mail screen and their email pops up, select it and it stays in the TO: bar followed by a comma and you can continue adding recipients.
Thanks for the reply eSZee.
Yes I know that the stock android email and/or gmail client is supposed to do this, I have an HTC Inspire 4G that does it just fine after a couple of letters are typed in, but my Streak doesn't do it at all, that's what has me stumped and there's no one close to me for me to compare with, that's why I finally broke down and posted.
I'm running Streakdown 1.9, 318 BB if it matters. Been like that since. I haven't used the stock froyo except to bring my Streak back from a bricked state, and I really don't wanna have to go through the trouble of using the QDL to get back to stock froyo and then have to go through the trouble of flashing the streakmod again, but it may be my only alternative....
But if there's not a setting for this it may just be what I have to do if no other solution arises
Hi,
I'm running a HTC HD2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 running ROM 3.14.110.1 WWE.
Recently, whenever I try to send an SMS and type the contact's surname into the "To:" box - the messaging application disappears off the screen. No draft SMS is saved, and when I return to the messaging application - no evidence of the SMS is present.
If I click the Contact Lookup icon in the top right hand corner, I can manually select contacts through this method - but obviously it's a lot slower than simply typing a surname and picking out a contact.
I've tried removing my MS Exchange ActiveSync connection, and then re-establishing it after a Soft Reboot - but the problem persists.
Has anyone experienced this, and can suggest a fix?
Regards,
Richard Tubb.
Im glad I'm not the only one this happens too, I just thought it must be my fat fingers pressing the wrong buttons....
Sorry I cant help but will be watching to see if there are any helpful hints on how to fix this error..
How many text messages have you got. . . . Coz when i was getting this and after a hard reset, I didn't restore my test message and the problem want away.
Don't now as never found a solution yet.
OK, I purchased the EVO 3D on release day from Sprint. They transfered all my contacts over from my HTC Hero. I soon started seeing some text messages showing the persons phone number and not their name. I posted the issue on another forum, and was told to delete all my contacts off the phone and log back in to my GMail to reload them. I did the complete data reset and loaded them back up with GMail. Sent a message from my wife's phone to mine and again it showed her number, but no name. I turned the phone off and then back on and tried it again and Viola, now I am getting the name as it should be. But now it is doing something even more strange. Anytime I send a text message to anyone as soon as I press send there is a text window that pops up and says "message saved as draft" . The message was sent to the person I wanted it to go to, but when you look at the main text message page it says " Draft" under the photo. I don't have people's photo so it is just the generic outline of a person. Then when I go to the drafts page the phone is making two drafts of each message that I send. I see nothing in the settings to change to keep this from happening. If anyone knows how I can correct this I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks
NCH
Problem:
Occasional text messages are not "received". Just as a rough number, I'd say over 90% of SMS sent to me, I get. But I have been able to narrow down the problem with the missing ones.
I only noticed the issue because while at home or when I have headphones in, I have tasker set up to announce the name of the sender of a new SMS to me. Once in a while, it would say the name, but I wouldn't get a new text notification sound nor would I get a new message in any messaging app.
Phone info:
Nexus5
Android 4.4.4 rooted
Stock rom, kernel, etc.
Carrier is T-Mobile
Messaging apps used (not at the same time) are Hangouts, Smitten SMS, Google Messenger
Useful information:
1. This is NOT an iMessage issue. Missing messages have come from both android and apple phones. The last time this happened was today from a S5.
2. This is NOT a carrier issue. The message is received by the OS.
3. This is NOT an app issue. The message is not picked up by stock messaging app or any others.
4. This is NOT a formatting/encoding issue. I have people resend the message (copy/paste) and the resend always goes through and is shown in the messaging app.
5. This is NOT a group messaging issue. These are one on one conversations.
6. The missing message does NOT show up in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db.
7. If I set up Tasker to log all incoming SMS, it IS able to log the missing message AS IT IS RECEIVED BY THE OS.
My theory:
Tasker can catch these missing messages, but the mmssms.db won't see them. So that tells me that somewhere between the phone getting the message and the phone logging it to the mmssms.db to be read by messaging apps, there is a failure. I do not know Android well enough to precisely say where this failure is happening. Because Tasker isn't logging them as they hit the DB but prior to that.
If someone more knowledgeable with how the android os handles SMS wants to chime in here, that would be great.
Anyone else experiencing the same? Any additional ideas here?
I am experiencing the same issue and searching to find a solution.
Android 4.4.4
Motorola Moto G
Cricket is my carrier
Did you ever find a solution? Thanks!
