I am having a weird problem. My onyx wont charge with the official cable when its switched on but it does charges when the phone is switched off.
More, it charges with a simple usb cable, a cheap one which i dont remember how i got hold of, while both being switched on and off.
All other phones of my family members are getting charged alright with the stock cable. I have tried looking up the net but havent got any solution.
The cheap cable which does charges the phone doesnt connect the phone with PC.
I am currently on rooted stock rom ,
Anyone Please help
Sound like a hardware problem to me. The cable may be defective.
The cheap cable does work to connect other phones to pc?
What about charger? Is it stock one? (red and white, big, 2amps)

It's all a bit confusing, sorry, but - as far as I understood, your onyx oem cable doesn't charge your phone but does connect it to pc? the other cable(cheap one) charges your phone but doesn't connect it to pc(and its because cable is for charge only, have couple of these - they have only + and - inside) I understood it well?
Then if I did, your oem cable must charge your phone from pc? - then its charger problem.
If I did not, you oem cable doesn't charge nor connect to pc? - then its usb port(phone port) or cable itself
I see no different solutions to your problem. :fingers-crossed:

well you can get a long mini usb cable that long and then get the little mini to micro adapter tip for it and it would work just fine!
canadiantire.ca has some interesting usb options.. do a search for usb they have some plug and cable assemblies that could be of interest.
Search Ebay (UK) for leads: USB 2.0 A MALE to MICRO USB B MALE DATA CHARGING CABLE (item 290441711518)
And Mini Car Charger USB Adapter (item 390250810047)
Cost peanuts
there are many usb car chargers that are simply a small cylinder that practically fit into the cigarette lighter hole and have a standard female usb plug on it. you could get one of those and a micro-usb cable separately however long you want. be warned though that some universal chargers do not work with our phones as they sense how they are being charged by resistance over the data pins.

I have that end your showing.
Thanks for the tip.
the cable itself you should be able to find at any computer shop. avoiding the big ones like best buy it should be <$10
It doesn't look like it to me. Is this true? This would be a show-stopper for me. Thanks.
Found the answer: No.

Well that sucks.
If it's any consolation, neither does the Xoom. I think once you hit the larger tablet form factor, you can expect USB charging to go out the window.
Yeah, 5V DC at less than an amp is only supplying around 4.5 watts of charging power. You're looking at 7 hours or thereabouts to charge via USB. If it's any further consolation, the iPad can charge via USB, but only high power USB or when it is asleep. It will still take a long time. Still, it would be nice to have the option even just to keep it topped off while near the computer.

Amen!
Anyway I find the overall battery performance on the G tab pleasing!
What about something like this?
I have this:

which is powered externally via 5V DC at 3A amps. It has USB ports on the bottom and even comes with a USB-to-DC adapter for the Sony e-Reader.
Since this isn't a regular computer USB port (I guess), could this type of setup theoretically work with the GTab and, if so, is there some type of USB-to-DC cable that would work?
What charge times are you lot getting via usb? For me 0-100% is 3days 19hrs but on ac it's 4hrs.
To me this isnt normal for usb as my HTC hd2 running ics was about 5hrs on usb.

I contacted Samsung and this is their reply
Thank you for contacting Samsung. I apologise that you have been unable to locate the requested information about your GS3, I understand this can be frustrating.
Inregards to your previous email, when you are charging your GS3 by usb with the phone switched on the power usuage of the GS3 is only slightly less than what the usb lead can charge the phone at so it will take longer to charge.
When the GS3 in charged by the mains there is more power running to Phone and will charge more quickly
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Gavin

If i use both cables with the AC charger they both work fine and as i mentioned is OP my HD2 running ICS charges to 100% in about 5 hrs where as the GS3 is nearly 4 days using same cables/pc.

I thought it would be that easy to :S But nooo -.-" maybe its not a OTG adapter? Cause its suppose to work with charger cable right ? Wait a sec... The end with micro, Is supposed to go into phone? Cause thats too big, i did otherway around. thats may be why ? Ordered a new OTG, See if it helps =) If not i call sony D:
Haha that's exactly why. The male micro USB of the adapter goes into the phone, then the ps3 charge cable goes into the female USB end of the adapter.
In an effort to streamline my adapters & cabling behind my TV, I decided to purchase this hub. What attracted me to this was the combination of OTG + charging/powering capabilities. This hub is perfect for charging/powering usb-connected devices (i.e.-miracast adapter, chromecast, cell phones, tablets, & gaming controllers). Around Christmas time, I picked this up on sale for about $14 with coupon code.
Pros
Charges/powers up to 4 USB devices
OTG works!
Pros
~1ft USB OTG cable
Must use super short provided cable for OTG
Only one port on hub is for OTG
OTG port plugging into the Nexus Player is in the front
My biggest gripe has to be the super short cable provided. When I first purchased it, the cord was too short for my liking (approximately 1 ft). Because of this, I went straight for my micro USB cable I use for my OnePlus. For some reason, that didn't work. I didn't think to try the super short cord. After nearly giving up on it, I gave the short cable a try. Naturally, that cable worked. To make up for the short USB cable, I used an old 3 ft USB extension cord I had lying around. All in all, I am happy with this hub.
