Second screen immersion mode - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to have the second screen always display time, battery, connectivity, and notification? Hoping to have extra real estate on the main screen.

I would be interested in knowing this as well, maybe there is someway to use the full screen (with the second screen part) altogether?

I'm confused. My second screen always shows the time, date, battery, and any notifications.

Does it show that info while the screen is on? Or does that information move to the main screen?

I can only speak for stock and unrooted but it DOES NOT show time, date, or battery info whilst the main screen is on. As far as notifications go, only briefly (1-2 seconds) as they come through.

I am also interested in this. I am very happy with the phone and the only issue is how the top gets slightly darker during immersive mode. Only when lighting up the second screen does the main screen become uniform for immersive apps. Is there a setting with the default ROM that forces the second screen on for all apps?

I'd think there must be. And at least with root we should be able to change that setting. Now let's hope someone finds it.
BTW: I contacted LG about this but haven't gotten a response yet.

Is this still an issue with newer V10 batches? It's the only thing keeping me from trying again. I'm a bit OCD and I returned 2 V10s in November because on book readingnin immersive mode, it drove me crazy that the top of the screen was slightly darker than the rest.
I'd be willing to give it a go again if I knew LG fixed.

[App] NoLED - Use the AMOLED screen for incoming notifications

I saw the idea posted somewhere previously that instead of getting the capacitive lights on, we really should be putting the phone's AMOLED screen to work ! specially that it doesn't consume any backlight energy when displaying a black screen. So I developed an app that does just that, upon receiving a notification, it will display a black screen with a red dot somewhere in the left top corner. Ok, i really should put these in bullet points..
the application does the following:
1. When your phone receives a notification, it switches the screen on and displays a red dot somewhere in the top left corner. The location of this dot is random every time you receive a new notification. This will guarantee using different LEDs so that the same ones won't be burned out ! The reason why I chose red is because it uses the least amount of energy to display.
2. The app runs as a service, after installing, you'll need to lock the screen once and unlock it for it to activate. After this, the application should run automatically after a reboot.
3. To get rid of the red dot, the only key you can use is the home key. Using the capacitive touch buttons will do nothing, and so as clicking anywhere on the screen. Once your screen turns on, the notifications disappear and will not come up until a new notification sound is received.
I have also logged the touch drivers and saw that although I'm displaying a black screen and setting flags to not respond to touch messages, android is still receiving touch messages when you touch any spot on the screen. This, I imagine, consumes resources! So I disabled the touch drivers when the black screen is active. Pressing on the Home button should reactivate it. If your screen is unresponsive to touch even after the notification screen is dismissed, a simple restart should take care of it. Once you've restarted, you can uninstall the app.
Now the touchscreen drivers were a lot easier to mess around with. The sourcecode given by samsung helped me achieve the activation/deactivation of the screen. Things are not the same with the capacitive buttons. You'll notice that when the black screen is on, if you touch any of the soft buttons, they'll light up (although am suppressing them programatically). Am still analyzing the drivers to see if there is an easy way to disable these drivers too when the notification is on.
One more note, make sure the notification sounds that you choose for your different apps (Calendar, Gmail, Gtalk.. etc) are the default samsung notifications or the ones you placed in /sdcard/sd/media/audio/notifications
Any other sound notifications will simply not trigger the program to display the notification screen.
I just want to let you guys know that this is a beta app. Install it at your own risk.
Enjoy ! Comments and feedback will be appreciated

Thanks for the heads up, but after reading the thread I think I'll wait till it's been tweak a bit more.
That's a good idea, but if it's going to flash using the screen, why no take advantage of the fact that it's a SCREEN and flash an icon instead of just a little red dot?
For example, use the same system icons that appear in the notification bar when messages are received / calls missed, etc. And if you're worried about burning out pixels you could make it change location every minute or so.
Just my $.02
that was mentioned in the original thread... I think it is a good idea... I cant wait to see how this grows...
Does this require your GS to be rooted?

the idea of a full icon was mentioned, but just like a blinking led, the idea here is to keep the notification using as little power as possible. Not sure if the power usage would be more or less showing one pixel or a whole icon.
Obviously 100+ pixels would use more power than just one but the screen is very power conservative. I think it's at least worth a try to see if it really impacts the battery that much.

doesnt work if you have No Lock installed too
Umm..i have nolock and it works fine. Try turning it off, then lock and unlock your phone, and turn it on again. Should work.

It was hurting battery leaving the screen on even though it was just red. I uninstalled it from manage applications and now my screen won't turn on once it is off, I have to pull the battery. Anyone know if doing a clear storage wipes the internal SD card?
+1 for icon notifications
If we can't have a real led, lets look cooler than all the other phones and have little icons of e-mail, sms, and missed calls. It would be nice.
and make them loook purrrrdyyyyyyy iphone-esque
Installed this today and so far so good. Sure it would look better with actual icons but if it saves me from having to unlock my phone all the time to look for new messages then I'm happy.

Not sure why this thread is not getting enough attention when there were so many people begging for a notification app to come out?
Thanks for making the app, will try it out soon. Will give feedback as soon as I get it.
Not working for me at all. Tried default sounds, custom sounds, with puzzle piece, without puzzle piece, etc. Even tried a reboot. Yes, the service is running.
Samsung Vibrant
EDIT: Just worked, but seriously took like 10 minutes before the screen flashed and the red LED started blinking.
I'm having a problem with it as well. I see it running, but it doesn't notify me except for the initial notification. Also it seems to just keep the screen on.
I'll keep playing with it to see off I can figured it out.

When i try to start an app (e.g. browser) the screen turns black. I can unlock it again, but the screen stays dim. after some unlocking the screen becomes normal (normal brightness) and also the apps are startable.
i am using autobrightness, the stock firmware, 4.1.1 (i9300xxdlih) power saver is not turned on.

i disabled auto brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. But its still same: very dim and after a while a black screen; after a few times of unlocking, the display works normally
I have just seen the same issue on a friend's S3.
Anyone else? I feel like this is a very big issue that is still lurking in a lot of devices.
I tried it myself and I toggled the power button to turn the screen on and off.
It doesn't take long but sometimes when the screen turns back on, it's super dim and you can faintly see the lockscreen image.
You have to cycle the screen several more times to get it to the 'correct' brightness, and no it is NOT a brightness setting.
It's some hardware issue in the phone.
Sorry for the necrobump, but I only found this thread. I have this problem too since about a week back. It makes my phone useless at times. I first thought it was a software issue. I have an app (called Twilight) for dimming the screen more than normal settings and also toning it, for nightime use, and I thought that was the culprit first, but nope. I have flashed rom, recovery, wiped all caches I can think of. Still happens, just now I was in the middle of installing android revolution hd, and the screen ultradimmed on me so I can't finish the process
Thing is, a few months ago I managed to crack my screen by way of gravity and concrete. I let the samsung brand service centre in Stockholm repair it for me (it is out of warranty) and this issue with the dimming never happened before that. Then again, it didn't happen directly afterwards either... but still. So, I am thinking: either me dropping it caused more damages and this is because of that. Or the service center did a bad install of the new screen. Or, the replacement screen that was installed has a defect in itself. I am leaning a bit towards the third explanation... maybe different batches of screens?
Does anyone have any ideas? If I am to contact the service center and complain about their work I would like to be able to point towards a "known problem"...

Take it back, if it didn't happen before then the new screen is most likely.

[Q] Lock Screen not taking advantage of super amoled

Hey guys, I got my phone last Saturday and have been playing around with it ever since.
I noticed that I had the night clock bug (whole screen is lit up) and as far as I know it's already a confirmed software bug. What I also noticed though was that my lock screen is also lit up. I'm using a pure black wallpaper which works well when the phone is unlocked (appears pure black) but the black is lit up when the lock screen is shown. It's almost like there's backlight bleeding. In the home screen and lock screen preview though it shows that it should be pure black
Here are screenshots of the "bug". I'm actually thinking it's a software bug since it was captured by the screenshot. http://imgur.com/a/p5maP (Take note the the blacks on the first image is different from the other 3)
Was wondering if this bug is related to the night clock bug or a defect with my unit.
If anyone is willing to help, kindly try changing your wallpaper to a solid black color and check if the blacks on the home screen and lock screen is different.
Thanks! (I have 4 days left until I won't be abe to replace my unit so I'm trying to make sure everything's good)

They're referring to the Night Clock alone. I have that problem as well as a lockscreen problem. Haven't seen anyone reporting if they have the lock screen problem so I'm trying to figure out if it's a software glitch or a bug with my unit.
Basically the lock screen preview when applying a new wallpaper shows that the lock screen should have super amoled blacks but when I lock the phone the black is lit up.

If there's any consolation I experienced this very problem. Were you using fingerprint to unlock? I hadn't seen it because I had swipe to unlock.
I still haven't figured out how to fix it.

That's normal. This happens because the lock screen puts a slight filter on your wallpaper. It de-saturates the image. You can try with a solid red color, it might be easier to see.

Not, really. This only happens when you have Fingerprints/Pattern set up as your Screen lock type.
If you set it to Swipe, with the water droplet effect, there's no "filter."
Someone found kind of a solution to this, but it didn't work for me: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...t-rid-dark-filter-lock-screen-wallpapers.html

Solution not working...plz another fix?
I have the same bug on my Galaxy J5 (super amoled), I use pin to unlock it. It is pretty annoying. I use the same black picture for both lock screen and background pic, and after unlocking the phone, black backlight turns off. Swipe to unlock solves the problem, but I have to take one of the disadvantages : either backlight or not locked phone.
Download "klwp live wallpaper maker" from playstore and make a all black wallpaper . Save it go to settings ---> background/wallpaper, set KLWP as lockscreen and wallpaper/background.
Not solved? are u using xposed? if so, download Bright Lockscreen and see if this helps.

Screen dims and then blacks out during calls

Every time I make a call, the screen dims and then blacks out in a matter of seconds. It's in an Otterbox Defender. I have tried every setting I could find and have it set to turn off display after 10 minutes but something is overriding that for this phone app.
I'm new to LG and the V30 but on my last device it detected proximity to the screen during calls so your cheek doesn't mistakenly hang up or something. I believe it uses the front side camera to detect your head there. Could that be what os going on?
Sent from my LG-H933 using Tapatalk
Mine does the same and I dont think it's to do with proximity sensor. When i make a call on speakerphone or Bluetooth with nothing near the phone, it still dims and blacks out
I agree it's likely not the proximity sensor in this case as I always have it on a desk and use it via bluetooth but thank you for that suggestion. But, in many cases, I need to enter in several series of #'s for conference lines and changing options but the screen blanks out way too fast. When I double tap it to open the screen, I sometimes accidentally hit a # and have to start over again...

Do you mean it turns pure black, or just dims? Mine dims if I'm on a call utilizing the speaker. Just touch the screen to brighten it up, then type your conference numbers.

I have the exact same problem with my V30. I use Bluetooth, either on a headset or in my car. After a few seconds, the screen dims, and then a few seconds later, it blacks out completely. When it dims, I can tap on it to wake it up, but the screen still responds to the tap, so if I happen to tap where the hangup button is (easy to do in a moving car), I end up hanging up on myself. Or, if I'm navigating through an automated attendant, when I tap the screen to wake it up, it invariably hits a button for a choice I didn't want, and I have to back out or start over. Very frustrating! If the screen goes completely black, then I just hit the power button to turn it back on, but once again, it'll dim out in a few seconds. I would LOVE to have a fix for this! I like this phone better than the past Samsung phones I've had, but the Samsungs don't do this.
I want to add my frustration to this issue as well. I also have a V30 and this happens all the time. My mom has a G6 and says the same as well. It is simply unacceptable. If this is an LG-specific issue and it isn't fixed (or at least given an option to change the screen time-out) then this is a deal-breaker for another LG in the future. (same goes for the glass back as well, but that's another issue...)
Eagerly awaiting a fix or workaround....

I have the same problem on my V30+ since the oreo update. Before it was OK.
During call screen blacks out and then when I take my ear off screen it does not light up again.
I need to press the power button to have the screen displayed again during call. I wonder it this was not done on purpose in order to preserve battery
Nowever It's frustrating because I was not used to this.
Any ideas?

No fixes yet that I'm aware of. The "solution" I use is to tap or double-tap on the very top of the screen where there are no buttons that will affect the call. But this is by no means an acceptable solution.

I, too, want to add my frustration with this problem. In my case, the screen goes black immediately after touching the phone icon to connect a call. I talked to the T-Mobile people who said they never heard of this before. This has been an issue since 2012, so that was useless. This started happening with the last update. Hopefully if more people complain, a fix will happen.
Same here...

I hope we can get a fix or an option to this soon. It really messes up calls when options are needed during the call.
I've had the exact same problem with my G6 ever since I purchased it (February 2018). It's really annoying and a problem when you are calling an automated voice system and it dims before you can make your selection and double tapping to wake can cause you to hit a wrong number selection (which happened the other day when I was refilling a prescription). Please fix this!
Happens on the V20 also with the latest update from Verizon. The only way around it is to tap in an area you think won't affect the call every few seconds. The number bar on the top seems to work. defintely need a fix for this. Really annoying

Me too! The solution? NONE, NONE, and NONE.
I called T-Mobile today about this very problem after my frustration hit the roof. I complained it's impossible to hold business conference calls on my phone because the dialpad screen dims in exactly 5 seconds. I need it fully lit so I can mute/unmute at-will for clear-sounding and respectful meetings. Yet, as every smartphone user knows, computer screens are no match against sunlight. I inevitably fumble my way around the dialpad on a bright day.
I did every configuration possible to mitigate the problem: Screen Timeout (none), Auto Brightness (off), Brightness (100%), Battery Saver (off). Nothing stopped the dialpad from dimming like usual. However, to my own surprise, all other apps respected my settings during a call. So is the LG phone/dialpad app itself ignoring my system settings? Yes. Yes it is. My theory was soon confirmed....
T-Mobile offered to do a 3-way call with an LG representative. The conclusion? I was told flat out it's a "feature of all LG phones", it's the "default", and there is "no way to change it". SERIOUSLY, LG?!?!? Shame on you, LG!!!! I didn't say that to the LG rep, but, I did tell her I will be "forced stay away from future LG phones" if there really was no solution for this and every other phone LG makes. She offered her scripted apology to me several times but, alas, there was nothing she could do.
PS: This is so, so, so disappointing. They could have kept their default but provided a system option to enable the app's FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON. They could have taken my customer compliant seriously. So, for anyone reading this, if you want to do any active use of the dialpad during a call, stay away from LG phones.

Root, use Google dialer? Does it dim also? I have it installed, I'll check tomorrow morning.
Google dialer "Phone" app doesn't help...nope!
I gave a workaround in an identical thread somewhere else in this forum. Use Waze navigation app during phone calls. The screen won't dim. Drag the phone call thingy over to the Waze screen.
Found it:

Yes, it's a wonky workaround, but it works. When I use this while driving, I make sure my phone is plugged in for charging -- because the display will stay on for the entire duration of the phone call.

There are options in there to change the way the screen will look.

Click to collapse
Yes tried that also. I have tried everything but nothing happens. I had a friend over with another s9+ and his screen was just fine and with the same settings. I think it's just the screen that's broken or something.
I work with calibrated screens every day (I work in colour grading video and photos) and I must say that Samsung screens are NOT correct. I have an S20 ultra here also and it has some weird colour shift also.
My old Pocophone F1 has more accurate colour than these phones?
I also acknowledge that oled has some tint to it by default but I just find it frustrating paying a lot of money for these phones and not really knowing how my photos really look until I see them on my computer screen.
