I currently have Hyperdrive installed with NC5. I did it probably over a year ago now and want to see what there is available now. Is it possible to go up to 5.0.1 and an unlocked bootloader yet or am I stuck at 4.4.2 and safestrap?
If not, what ROMs should I look at that I am able to use?
Stang5litre has roms that are compatible with locked bootladers based on loliop. Also work on unlocked bootloaders.

Well I broke the screen on my fully rooted and unlocked boot loader Galaxy s3.
My question is at the price to fix my s3 or get a s4 is going to be cheaper to just get a s4
but where are they at on rooting this device from what I see the software is up to MJ7 but the boot loader is still locked unless you have older software like MDK is this correct.

You should be able to fix screen for under $100. MJ7 can be rooted only, no custom recovery. S4 is a very nice upgrade from S3, you can probably pick one up around $320 - 350 on the cheap. If you like flashing, pick up an MDK version on Swappa, otherwise, you can just debloat, like I have done.

safestrap is available for ME7 and MI1 base versions which allow TW stock kernel (4.2) base roms to be loaded. Hashcode is presently developing safestrap to run on MJ7 and MK2 kernel (4.3) base so we can load up 4.3 based Roms like HD11.0.
I have 10.2 hyperdrive running via SS and my GS4 phone rocks. I can live with this whether or not Hashcode gets SS to work with 4.3. This is still the best phone out there
Hello, as my thread title suggests I have a question about custom kernels. I made the mistake of updating to 4.3 on my device [I did it for the TRIM feature but wasnt aware of the cons Verizon put in place with 4.3], before 4.3 I was rooted and was using the stock OS and kernel. I do know that its possible to get Root access with 4.3 and Ive already done that - My question is if it is possible to install a custom kernel that will allow me to overclock this device ? I know there are a ton of kernels out there, but I dont want to risk bricking this device or having to download the ODIN 1GB+ 4.3 android file to bring it back to life..Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, you cannot install a custom kernel. You would need to have an unlocked bootloader to install custom kernels.... and there's no current do it yourself method to unlock the 4.3 MJ9 bootloader.
4.1.2 was the last Android build for our phones where you could have unlocked the bootloader.... and so far, it doesn't look like there's going to be a method developed for 4.3.

That sucks...I dont think there is a way to go back to 4.1.2 either. Thanks for answer anyways.
I have been reading on Installing CM11 on my Galaxy S4 Verizon (SCH-I545) phone. It said not to use that method if you don't have I545VRUAMDK (I'm currently on I545RUFNC5)..
How will I be able to install CM11 on my phone? Is it not possible or is there another method I can follow? I'm currently on the stock ROM and rooted with towelroot.
Some guidance on installing a custom ROM on my S4 would be nice.. I'm kinda lost with all the warnings with the different basebands. Last thing I want to do is brick my phone. x-x

If your phone is NC5 (like mine) then you have the locked bootloader and need to use Safestrap to run a custom ROM. AOSP ROMs like CM will not work for us since our bootloader dont allow for custom kernels. Use Safestrap and try a ROM like Empty Galaxy vDecember, Echoe, Eclipse or maybe HyperDrive.
I am a beginner to Android, and I am wondering if someone can introduce me to how to make my Galaxy S4 into a Google Play Edition with Lollipop. Can someone walk me through this?
Please help!

Likely this will not be possible for you.
Samsung and Verizon have kept the GS4 Bootloader locked and unless you have the "MDK" version of the bootloader there are no options to change your ROM to "Google Play Edition with Lollipop". Furthermore, depending on your current bootloader, you may not even be able to root your phone.
Go to the Baseband section under settings/more/about device and look for the baseband version. The last 3 letters/numbers are the ones you will see referred to in these posts. Up to NK4 was KitKat, OC1 is Lollipop.
If your last 3 are MDK you may be able to use an exploit called Loki which will allow you to root and change roms - (search MDK and Loki on these forums). Unfortunately if your last 3 are OC1 then you are on Lollipop and out of luck for root/custom roms at the moment.
Once you find those letters/numbers you will know your options. For Kitkat versions you can root with Towelroot and install the Safestrap app/recovery and use that to flash custom Kitkat Touchwiz Roms only. There are a few methods for upgrading to Lollipop from NK4 and retaining root but you must root the phone first before upgrading.
With very few exceptions, once you upgrade your bootloader/baseband version you cannot downgrade, so if you are already on OC1, the only option is to wait for a new root exploit to be found.
Hope this helps a little.
Try looking up "how to flash roms on galaxy s4" and I think there is a guide on xda

Hi
Can anyone please let me know how to upgrade my Samsung i535 verizon to cyanogenmod 5.1 custom...phone is currently running official 4.4.2 kitkat.
Thanks
It's not possible. VZW S3 with 4.3 and above updates have locked bootloaders. This means you can not install a traditional custom recovery and it does not allow flashing custom kernels, which anything non Samsung based would need. Your only option would be the Safestrap recovery and custom rom based off of Touchwiz. You can not downgrade either to an earlier version of the software before the bootloader lock either, just in case you had that idea. VZW asks Samsung to muck it up like that.
