I had my s2 hard bricked and now i got a new motherboard for it, the thing is that on all stock roms (2.3 and 4.1.2) the phone works perfectly but all the custom roms 4.4 5.0 6.0 the cellular does not work, it gives me no service, tried flashing modem from cwm but no change.
i also tried different recoveries etc but custom rom no service
sometimes in custom rom imei used to be blank but it comes back after reboot, in stock no issues at all
any idea what im doing wrong or is there something up with the new board?
thanks,
Update
I was searching and I read somewhere that installing NeatROM by Sale will help, i downloaded and installed it, the good news is that cellular works and i have full 3G access.
Question: How to proceed further?
i could experiment but the thing is that if i flash a non-working rom (no cellular), i will have to flash stock from odin and start all over again
any ideas?
Update 2
i tried NeatROM and it worked perfectly, then i tried installing slimLP and boom, no service again, this time,my IMEI was blank too, so now i'm flashing stockrom again.
any idea anyone please?

I recently installed WanamLite V7.7 XXLP6 Android 4.0.3 Final LP6 on my phone, but the signal was awful, so i tried to install [KERNEL] SpeedMod SGS2 [K2-20 CWM5 CIFS ROOT], hoping that it would fix my problems with the signal.
After that, the phone is permanetly stuck on the Samsung logo and won't go any further. I tried to re-flash the ROM but the problem is still there.
After that I've tried to fix the problem by following instructions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499, but still nothing.
Can someone please help me to fix this problem?
Thanks for your time
I think that you need to do a restore or to flash a gingerbread rom before the ics one... Speedmod is not for ics roms...
Sent from my Galaxy S II powered by CheckROM
You said you followed pulsar's "boot loop" thread... so does that mean you cleared cache, wiped data, factory reset, all that?
Also, a future FYI. Kernels will never address your problems with phone signal. Flashing modems will, but kernels, never.
However, they might affect wi-fi signal, as some kernels have wi-fi drivers included.
Thanks for your responses. I';ve managed to fix my problem by flashing a gingerbread rom. After that i had major signal issues. I've flashed the main modem for my S2 (ki4) but i'm still facing the same issues. Any ideas how to fix the signal problem?

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Or have just not a clue what they installed .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .

Try different modems until you find one that works well for you. That's what I and many other people on here have done. This is one thread with CW flashable modems (there are others, search), there are other threads on here (search) with Odin flashable modems if you prefer to use that.
i tried many... right now i'm using XLP6 which shows -93dBm but still when i'm on the phone, 90% the connection is lost and the phone hangs up
I've found that how well a modem works for you depends on where you live and service provider. For me, in Germany on T-mobile I've found XXKI3 to have the best results (with CM7)
I would be trying the modem that came with the phone .
jje
im also running wanamlite 7.7 but with the LP6 kernel...and indeed the kernel has nothing to do with signal levels
i did change the modem to XXKPA and the battery, signal has improved a lot so im sticking with it, my phone originally came with KK1 which kinda sucked even with stock rom
so follow the link they gave you and try the modem untill you find one that suits your needs
by the way, before flashing stuff you should read what is made for what rom so you can avoid bricks/bootloops
Hi all,
Pebble Blue i9300 SGS3 unlocked
Was on Android Revolution HD 14, full wipe flashed Omega 33.2 which is when I notice the issue where I would only be able to connect to WIFI within 3m distance from router (used to work from outside house and across the road now only in the same room). I can see my network at full strength in other rooms of the house but I receive authentication error/incorrect password despite it being correct.
I then decided to rever to stock rom, I unrooted and did triangle away and flashed the rom my phone came with, problem still persisted.
Then flashed back to Omega 33.2 with full wipe and problem persisted.
Did a series of full wipe -> flash -> factory reset in OS -> full wipe -> flash -> factory reset, after which the problem still persisted.
Flashed Omega 33.3 today over top of Omega 33.2 with full wipe and format /system from CWM, problem still persists now.
Any ideas on how I can remedy this?
Thanks
Van
this might not be related but give it a try
-Try changing your WiFi channel maybe to 6? or 7
Try a different kernel try a different rom .

Hi, thanks for the suggestions.
I have tried already different WiFi channels and have tried 4 or so different ROMs and the siyah kernel. Have tried aosp and stock firmwares along with the Sammy based jellybean ROMs. Have tried cm9.1, stock 4.04, stock 4.1.1, leaked 4.1.2 stock, omega v33.2 and 33.3.
WiFi was perfect before my first flash of omega v33.2, immediately after the flash it was extremely poor and hasn't changed through all the ROMs I've tried since then.
Wondering if it could be somewhat coincidental and my WiFi module if faulty. I could reflash to stock and send for warranty but would only like to as my last option.
Thanks
Van

Not sure if it's the case with Omega ROM, but I had a similar issue with an AOSP-based ROM. Solution was simple: flash back to stock ICS ROM, connect to wifi, then flash back to JB ROM. NO problem after that. might be worth a try before sendning it back for warranty.

Thanks for suggestion, had tried that when the problem first appeared and it hadn't worked. Just went back and did it again, wasn't able to connect to WIFI on stock rom I9300XXALE8_I9300NZCALE5_NZC, did factory reset from within rom, still unable to connect. Rebooted to stock recovery and wiped data/factory reset, wipe cache and rebooted straight to downlaod mode, flashed stock ics 4.0.4 I9300XXALE8_I9300NZCALE5_NZC again which is what came on my phone. Still no go with WIFI despite having 4 of 5 bars of signal. I get the connecting symbol which goes for a while then changes to scanning and back to connecting again, meanwhile under the wifi network in question it just remains "saved, secured".
Just performing triangle away/re-flash stock once more to preapre to be returned for warranty.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Van
My Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 LTE was running Liquid Smooth 2.37. Recently I lost notification and phone ring sounds and now I have lost baseband and I have no cell signal.
In the phone's 'about' section the baseband field is empty. Android version showing is 4.3.
I'm not quite sure what I did wrong, first to try and get back the sounds and then baseband, I have been playing around with various custom and stock ROMS and kernals to get full functionality back.
I've read tons of help posts but nothing works.
Here's a few of the things I've tried with results in brackets, used CWM recovery to restore working backup (failed 'unsupported file' message),
reflashed kernals (neither Boeffla nor yank555 have worked, wipe/data restore in CWM (it still takes me back to 4.3 with no baseband).
I thought I'd re-flash back to the phone's original stock ROM using Kies, but the weird thing is Kies doesn't restore, it upgrades to the latest 4.3 ROM which fails to restore baseband.
I wanted to send the phone back to the 4.1.2 it came with or was it an earlier ROM? I can't remember as I didn't note it down, I bought the phone second hand, it arrived loaded with a stock ROM for Australia's Optus network. I promptly rooted and flashed the phone to Liquid Smooth and the phone ran fine for months on the 2 Degrees Network in New Zealand.
Anyway, I must have tried reflashing a dozen stock roms I've found online using Odin. Some of them partially work, I get sound back, (it seems only the 4.3 ones work, with the german I9305XXUEMKC reliably loading - it even gives me a NZ english install option) but don't restore the baseband
. All the ones I've found for Optus are rejected, I get the 'unsupported device' or status 7 error in Odin.
So I decided to flash one that works, install cwm, root the phone and try installing different baseband kernals to fix the (probably corrupt) efs.
But I'm going round in circles trying to root the phone. Using CWM, supersu shows as successfully installed, but when I boot into the OS root checker shows my phone is not rooted. Knox seems to obstruct every attempt I make to disable it as well. I keep getting these 'knox stopped etc...from working messages'.
I'm sorry if my description is a bit confusing, I'm happy to clarify anything.
I'm at my wits end. I want to try everything before I have to ship the phone off to a repairer who may charge me hundreds of dollars to fix the phone.
This is I9300 not I9305 Q&A
Use the report button and ask a mod to move to the correct forum .
I can offer no help as i fail to understand the post .
As said before you are in wrong place and are not giving us a clear question to answer. If its a root problem there are fixes for it. Status 7 error is discussed in many threads. Flashing MG4 modem fixes efs problem. Downgrading causes problem. Learn to search before making a thread.
Hello,
I've been facing this problem for days now, tried almost everything and still no luck, so I'm sorry if it's been asked before, but I'm truly hopeless.
Right now, my SGS3 works only on stock ROMs. Every time I try to install a custom ROM (JB or KK) I have a problem with the signal - either baseband, IMEI and everything is "unknown", or everything is good (IMEI not "0049...", there are full correct APNs) but it still displays the "error while searching for networks" message.
Fortunately (as I realized on other threads),I can always go back to square one, flash a stock 4.3, with no problems with IMEI or anything, but, you know, stock sucks.
I tried installing every modem I ran into, but nothing helped. Is there a secret step from stock to custom on samsung devices I'm skipping (I'm an ex-nexus user...)?
+1
Same problem, no solution until now

When you install a custom rom, based on samsung 4.3, do you have emergency calls only/no network?
If yes, install Boeffla kernel 5.3/or beta 5.4 because Boeffla is a patched kernel i.e. it can read patched modems, and then install a patched modem .
From the on you will have your network (no emergency calls/no network problem) and signal should be good.
But first backup your EFS and store it on a very safe location, you have ann app for that, k-Tool on Playstore (requires root).
I've flashed stock ROM on my S3 cuz i was bored of these custom roms, and wanted stock.
I've installed the stock ROM sucsefully, but I saw Emergency calls only, and when i tried to phone my homephone it won't work, says im not registered on network
I'm trying to register, it says that i'm registered, but still problem
Make sure the firmware matches the device you're flashing. Flash the rom twice with a factory reset in-between and try again. There is also the possibility that you'll need flash something else too, like a patched or original modem..
Beamed in by telepathy.

Follow this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/emergency-calls-solved-t2748393
If this will not work then you have to repair network with the help of samsung z3x box
