Hi Everyone,
This is really a strange problem, i just bought my device (used and found out that it was UB then was relocked)....anyways.
on both chrome and firefox, i can access XDA website but not the forums, when i go to http://forum.xda-developers.com i get server not found error on both
i thought ok maybe ill use tapatalk... also its unable to connect to the forum and says contact forums admins if the problem persist...
XDA is he only forum (or website) that i face this with , i checked proxy, check it there was something blacklisting it or anything else, but oi even tried on a newly flashed stock rom and i get the same error... i can access the forums fine on my computer.
this happens on both wifi and mobile data.
any idea what this might be???

sorry guys to make a new threat for this but everytime i go on this site today i get avast telling me its dectected a trojan. whats going on there? delete this threat if you want. the only way i could think of getting it out there.

Do a google search, if you get warning from google, it mean that your computer is infected. XDA never get any trojan or malware.

Not necessarily true. There are a few possibilities:
1) an advert has been compromised; generally adverts are held by a 3rd party then shown on various websites.
2) false negative with interaction with some resource on here.
3) his PC is compromised with a hijack.
I have this too when i check this forum. Avast notice starts today, never more.
I get the same warning from Avast:
URL: rt.liftdna.com/liftrtb2.js
Process: file://C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Infection: jsownloader-AMY [Trj]
I suppose it is somewhere in the advertisements.

It's thread, not threat.
I get a warning, too... Avast said that there are a trojan called js: Downloader-AMY in this site. Weird.
just get same warning on my avast, but then disable javascrit on mozila and no more warning....
...there is no issue. Antivirus once again has proven its worthlessness.

Just report it to xda admin. Seems like somekind of ads trigger it. And if u guys were using firefox or chrome, u guys need to learn to use adblock plus. Btw why is this even on development subforum??

Nope it isn't a threat. It sends to Moto device errors and nothing else more.
No personal data will be sent.

Plus, you have to actively send the data. It's not happening on its own.

Buy the premium app.
The XDA app was probably developed by someone in their free time. If you don't want to look at ads in the free version, the least you can do is chip in a buck or two to whoever developed it and buy the premium app.
Quite simple, navigate to Play Shop, search for XDA PREMIUM, click buy! Voila, you now have no ads in XDA app

Could be the wifi router you are connected to when you are not getting ads has a firewall active, that is blocking the ad server.
pissyhun, are you still on krinyo's SlimROM? Or are you trying to push his hosts file to another ROM. That's what I want to do when I try AOKP, but have to research first - never done it before.

This thread is hilariously inappropriate in so many ways
FWIW, I have xda premium. My slightly OT question to the OP is regarding installation of hosts file, nothing else. Adfree doesn't work that well for me.
Adaway works better than adfree, the question could have been phrased better though.

Rooted my phone using the Vroot method and did some surveying with permission manager, xPrivacy and I stumbled upon a mysterious app called MtkCamera (com.example.cameraroot). I have no recollection of ever installing this app. I find this suspicious because I use permission manager on other phones running ICS and never have to deal with this app before. Considering all the apps listed are installed from Google Play Store, I decided to restrict all permission and uninstall the app. Check out the permissions list.

I removed it right after I found its existence.
If root fail then we see toast notifications that restore successful and this app we can see in multitask... I think it is for reverting back if root fails...

I'm not convinced. Looking at the network permissions, it doesn't make sense why it would need to control network access.

If you not sure if you want to remove it yet, put it behind a firewall
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jtschohl.androidfirewall
or freeze the app
appreciate the warning

I rooted with Vroot, installed english SU and then removed the Chinese SU using the vroot app and I don't have the app installed.
Removed it as soon as I saw it. Better not run it, and remove it does nothing to the root.

Sure, but what does it do? Does it steal your contacts? Send SMS'? Log your IMEI? Log your keystrokes? Or is it nothing out of the ordinary? Who knows!
I could decompile it myself, but I have no idea what to look for, so that's a complete waste of time.
We can make a game out of this. Post what you think it does, and we'll see who wins The winner gets an Xperia Z1 (image from the internetz).

A quick Google search reveals that "MTK" is MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company that's in the smartphone business, so I guess that's something? Still doesn't tell us why MediaTek's camera thingy is installed on some Ultras, though.

Is this thing only visible when using certain security apps?
I cannot find it in list of settings〉apps
I cannot see such process running either. I have not uninstalled anything since vroot

So the reason some people do not have can be simply because they do not have a TW firmware. Have a TW firmware and got it after vroot. But where would be the point for vroot to put a malicious apps on your phone when they can do anything they want while rooting your device? Maybe you should not take your phone with you on the bathroom, they may record you hahahaha.

So you don't find the following permissions suspicious?
Change network connectivity
Connect and disconnect wifi
Full network access
View network connection
View wi-fi connection
Pair with bluetooth devices
Allow wifi multicast reception
Call me paranoid, but I think this is a spying app...
this app with us from the beginning.
this is what I found -platform for the bottom and top of the camera for a detailed explanation of the process and the introduction of the frame code
that does seem suspicious.
Is the view that this root method is trustworthy?
Trying to weigh up if all is well before I root.
Cheers
Does anyone know where the ta partition/drm keys are???
Basically i've come across a file explorer within the android sdk/eclipse thingy on my laptop that lets me see more stuff on my phone than anything else ive tried...... i was thinking maybe through this it might be possible to find the drm keys and back them up, unfortunately im not a developer or anything and have no clue where to look or what they might be called
Just checked, the thing i was using is called DDMS and its something to do with eclipse and debugging, anyway the file explorer within it allowed me to view folders i cant normally see, i looked up on the net how to manually back up the drm/ta on a z1 and this file explorer let me follow the same path, and it had push and pull options......... as i said im not a developer or anything, i just wanna root my phone without losing that drm bit and am trying anything my brain and the internet throw at me lol
I think is actualy outside root, you have to externally access
Google some

Interesting... If you can push and pull to drm location then itll provide a way to Backup and restore the keys.
But... It couldn't be that easy? Surely...

Did you find the location? I have DDMS up and running but I don't know where to look.
EDIT: Is this it? dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/TA
In that case I found it, though I can't pull it out from the phone, guess you need root for that :/

Quite possibly...... i was following a method to manually back up ta on a z1 and thats what it was called on there...... couldn't find it on my z2 but i was in the dev/block/platform bit....... shame we cant pull it, yeah prob need root, i saw the push and pull options were lit up but didnt actually try them.
Maybe we can push superuser in this way, altho i doubt it if we cant pull anything from there
I even messaged doomlord but all i got as a reply was 'its not possible to back up without root'
Im gonna keep searching for a way but im not holding out much help lol......... oh yeah n to everyone telling me to use google, i am, thats how i found this DDMS in the first place
