Hello
What I need is something like remix os but a little bit more htpc friendly like what an amlogic box uses. that generic multicolored screen that runs kodi+APKs, but I need to install it on pc.
I purchased Sonys 2015 850c tv, made a video of how I easily ran both kodi and show*** on the same device smoothly then of course returned it because I can't afford it,i just wanted to play it was open box anyways...
For all I know a Linux distro may exist that I can run an apk inside of an openelec kindof thing, or like I said. Android box software to run and use as maim OS on Windows.
I like openelec kodi. But i need to run APKs as they run on a tablet or box or phone.
If anything exists like this that would be pretty neat. A few friends have asked for such a thing.

Long story short...
I setup a freenas tower and originally I had been running lots of server type application on linux VM's on my windows machine. Now I use jails to accomplish everything and I no longer need to run that computer 24/7. That computer was also solely connected to my TV which I no longer need or want to leave running 24/7.
I am currently running an Amazon Fire TV Stick and I really like it but it does not quite do everything that I want! And I was curious if you guys had any suggestions.
Plex App (Should be avaialable on all devices)
Typical movie/tv apps; HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu, etc (Also should be available on everything)
Amazon Prime Instant Video App ( really want this to be an app, and not loaded via the web)
A chrome browser (This would really help replace my desktop)
Wireless keyboard and mouse support
OpenVPN would be nice, but I do not think this is available without sideloading... which is possible
Currently looking at the new Amazon Fire TV and sideloading the Chrome browser. The Fire TV Stick does a decent job, but after its been on for a while it can get studder-y and choppy with HD video. So I was looking into an upgrade but havent trouble finding these specifics out. I would love you all's input!
Hi all, just got the MiBox3 to replace my FireStick and I'm totally surprised as just how limited it is given that it's android....at least it seems limited to me, now I know that Android TV is pretty new and still finding it's way to some degrees but still I can't help feeling that buying a cheepo android box thats just running normal android with a remote friendly front end wouldn't have been a better use of the money.
Anyway, my issue is this, I want to install catch-up tv providers here in the UK, such as ITV Hub, iPlayer, 4oD, 5 On Demand and UKTVPlay.....but even after trying for the last 8hrs I still can't find a way to do it on this box, the Play Store as virtually nothing, side loading them results in them either crashing or heavily relying on a mouse and as much as I love Aptoide for most problems like this it's been no help either.
Since Fire TV (which is basically Android) has all of these apps and they all work in a TV environment with the use of remote rather then mouse, etc, I would have hoped that there would be a way to "port" the apps from the FireStick to the MiBox.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
.
I've had this box almost a year and it has worked okay. It's still on Android 6.0 (ROOT) (what it came with)
It black screens google play until i force close, then works. We just got a new 4k TV and the various random bugs here and there plus my hatred of the Media Box launcher has made me decide to upgrade to Android 7 and set up a custom rom with android 7 and a better launcher. I really like how it looks in this video www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?time_continue=2&v=NhdQltHVSGo superceleron put out, but he doesn't have any 2/16 variants i can find.. I have rooted almost every phone and tablet i've owned, and I've switched a few Kindle Fire 1st gens to 5.0 so I'm comfortable with a brick risk.
I bought it from BG www(dot)banggood(dot)com/H96-Pro-Plus-Amlogic-S912-2GB-RAM-16GB-ROM-TV-Box-p-1117115.html?cur_warehouse=CN
How do i know which maker and version it is exactly so i get the correct rom? there are a few makers of the Amlogic s912 TV boxes and i don't know how to tell which one i have. it looks like an alphawise but it doesn't have alphawise written on the top.
I read that i need to take it apart to get the color of the board to further determine the correct rom.
I'm looking to run the 4k netflix but read it's unavail to rooted devices for some reason, I prefer root for backups and adblockers etc. can i hide root from netflix somehow?
am i wanting to install TWRP and load rom from there or use the update program that came on my TV box. how would i be able to backup my system and what app would i use?
If anybody has any links to some guides i can read up on that would be greatly appreciated, This will be my first time putting a custom rom on a TV box.
Thanks!

Still nothing... I hoped it would be out along with Note 9,but still silence from Samsung
Dex on Linux. Experience
I have the basic version of note 9.
I bought two different setups for testing:
- HDMI - USBC cable + Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth mouse
- HDMI with USBC port + 2 USB normal ports to connect a wired mouse and keyboard.
I have also at home two 4k tvs that I use as monitors: A 39inch seiki and a 41inch curved Samsung. Both working at 4k with my mac book Pro and my Ubuntu pc
Connecting any of the screens to my note using any of the devices gives me only 1080p. After researching, this is a software limitaciĆ³n. Somebody checked that note 9 can actually output 4k.
When you open dex, you get a desktop experience and you can execute you android apps. Not every app scales to full screen and some of them are shown as if you were runing them with an emulator.
Now dex on Linux. I got the invite and I installed the app. When you launch it in your phone, it asks you download an image (imagine docker) that's is a 4Gb zip that becomes a 10Gb unzipped .img file.
Application asks you to give the container a name and select the . img file.
That is what you can do from your phone. You cannot execute the container unless you are in dex mode: dex opened in a monitor
On dex, you have to run the Linux on dex app and run any container run created before.
When you run one in about 5-10 seconds you have Ubuntu 16 running.
Default applications you get aside of the standard ones is visual studio code and intellij 2018.2 community.
I am a java guy so I launched intellij to check the speed and I was surprised how fast it launched.
I need to play more, but I would buy a higher spec note if the 4k issue was solved.
In my opinion Dex/Linux is an strategy to justify expensive phones with more hardware, because nobody needs more ram and cores if you just run phone apps. Said that I am a software professional and this use case fits perfectly with my needs
I tried to install on my s9+ but would not let me. I hope they make available for S9+. I run Linux Deploy now in chroot - but not the same. I have Dex Station which I think would be nice with Ubuntu.
Iphone 9 linex
Linex on note 9 seem good but it would be better if i could download software or even update .It won't let me do anything. Its says no plugin could handle gs_plugin_app_install.Im at a lose.
Hello guys,
I saw this topic on the forum about a custom Fortnite apk, bypassing the device check to play it on any device:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/port-fortnite-android-device-check-t3827258
And i have a similar problem so that's why i create this thread.
There is a game called AM2R, which is a really nice Metroid 2 remake made by true fans on Game Maker 1.4
It's a pc game but Game Maker can also export it on android. The problem is the version 1.4 can only export on Android phones, not Android TV. The version 2.0 can export on Android TV but i asked the dev and they said it's impossible to convert their game to game maker 2.0 because it would take a huge amount of work.
But i want to play it on Nvidia Shield TV, which is an android TV, since i don't have a PC and i don't like to play on a small phone, especially with a virtual controller.
When i tried to launch the game on my Nvidia Shield TV, i have this message:
'' FATAL ERROR in
action number 1
of <Unknown Event>
for object oTestKeys:
Incorrect Android target... this executable targets Android TV devices. This build is for Android. ''
As you can see, the game check the device and see that it's not a phone so it doesn't launch.
I think it's possible to modify the apk to fool the game and make it work on Android TV, using a similar method than the one used for the Fortnite mod.
But I tried the tutorial of that topic and when i decompile the apk using apktool, there is no smila folder so i can't modify the file needed.
Maybe there is something to do in the Android Manifest, i saw something called ''intent'', with the words ''ouya'' and ''tv'' in it (ouya = another android tv)
And i saw on internet that a developer can ban Android TV using a command in Android Manifest, so I think the opposite is possible too. Maybe there is something to delete in it.
Or something to add in the apk to bypass the device check and say to the app that it's not an Android TV but a Samsung phone, like for the Fortnite mod.
So can someone try to modify the apk to make it work on Nvidia Shield TV please?
I'm not an Android specialist so i can't do it myself...
Here is a link to download the apk:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LrddBPcAK9Ufs9Eo8Jl5Z_zTTDvKzzHO/view
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards.
Another solution could be an app simulating a phone on android tv, maybe the app would launch.
But i don't know if it exist
So no solution? :/
It's really impossible?
