Hello all.
Probably you've heard about the app FreeDCam. The developers of this app, defcomg and troopii, have created a special version for our phones. I have taken some pics with this app.
This is with the stock camera:

I tried to make the camera focus on the edge of the seashell.
And this is with FreeDCam with manual focus:
Stock camera:
Here again i tried to focus on the edge of seashell.
FreeDCam:
Next photos are only taken with FreeDCam because with the stock one i couldn't focus most of the time:
Also with this camera we can take raw images. I converted them to jpeg without modifying them.
I mention that all these pics were taken indoors (in low light) and are a little bit noisy. But i wondered when i saw manual focus for our phones and i wanted to show you some pics.
I say again: this is not my app. The original app can be found on Play Store. And the official thread of the app is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/camera-freedcam-4-0-3-t3115548. But the devs have modified the app to work on our devices. I would like to share the app with you but i can't attach apks yet because i am a new user. How can i share it?

Gives nice improvement to the camera. Thanks for the post! Will surely check this out later.
no raw photo....why?
---------- Post added at 11:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 AM ----------
resolution 176x144???
Of course you can capture raw. If you click on the jpeg button in the bottom left corner you can choose to take pics in .dng format which is a raw file, an unprocessed file which can be opened in many programs.
And to change the resolution just swipe the screen from left to right.
.
Also to open the manual menu, swipe from bottom to top.
Its nice to have Manual settings, but the UI is crap
tanks....why photo raw impossible view album?
I don't know. But exactly for that purpose, when FreeDCam is installed, it is also installed FreeDCam Viewer with which you can preview raw files.
Snap Camera can do all this with a better interface. Also the manual focus is way faster in Snap.

Focus
I've taken some really awesome pics with sony's stock camera with superior auto mode on...just put in in manual focus and tap and hold the place where you want to fucus..i've done this and here is the result\
I installed the trial version of Snap Camera from Google Play Store and it is indeed faster and has a nice interface. But for me, if i set the focus to manual mode, it gives me the error "set camera parameters failed". And Snap Camera doesn't have manual shutter speed and focus peak.
La migliore di tutte è FV-Camera Pro
Has anyone tried raw with freedcam? I tried Version 3.3.135 and I only have bayer to choose. Converting Bayer to DNG just gets me crap. Any Idea what to do? Former versions of FreDCam gave me raw but could not open with Darktable any idea what is wrong, anyone?

Hi,
onthe firs step I'm sory for my english.
Last time I change my android 2.3 to ICS alpha but it don't work. When I go back to before configuration (android 2.3 with flashtool), and when I go to galery to see my pictcures everythings was fine, but when i tap and chose photo ( i take the photo before with this phone) it was refresh (but only once) and focus. But when I zoom it was blurred and never refresh. On my zte blade when i change size photo and enlrage, photo refreh again and it is clear. What can i do without instaling diferent photo manager from google play.
Go the settings>apps and select clear data for the gallery app. Hope this works.
I do this, but the problem is still stay
unmount your memory card, remove it from phone, shutdown your phone, turn it on, put card back in, wait a minute or two, now check gallery.
it still not clear when size up

Hm, I just read your post once again, and go to my phone and check.
I opened my gallery, click on image, first image is blurry then it gets clear, after i pinch to zoom it gets a bit blurry but it doesn't get any clear.
So as far as I see, that's normal.
I also find it strange, but that was across all ROM's that I tried, so I think it's normal
Ah yes, I see what you mean now. Stock gallery will never show high res photos in full resolution even if you zoom in (except for camera pics) . For instance, if i have a long rage comic (10 panel+) i have never been able to read the text, even after zooming in 100%. It's a bug or on purpose built in thing. Quickpic is better anyway

So in your case when you zoom camera pictures, the get blurry while zooming, but then gets clearer?

These are 2 pictures zoomed 100% in the stock gallery. 1 taken by the camera at 6MP 16:9, the other is just 1,4Mp. For the photo, I can zoom in to 100%, but for other pictures, I can't.

Hi,
I was little bit dissapointed with no option to shoot in RAW mode.
BUT...
I installed my fav camera app SNAP CAMERA and inside photo option i found possibility to switch on RAW (DNG format).
and guys...it works !!! I processed DNG files with Adobe Camera Raw and realy its much more better quality ...dynamic range, noise, shadows, over exposure, higlights etc. Everyrhing can be processed with right editor and behavied like true RAW format...
So try this solution

Open camera is a great choice . it doesn't have compitability issues like snap

But, I think, open camera don't use booth camera chip, only one. You can see it very well in low light condition
Can anyone confirm that any 3rd party camera app (Snap Camera, A better Camera etc.) uses both lenses? I tried to cover one lense and compared the pictures and barely noticed a difference on Snap Camera and Open Camera which suggests that they are only using the main lense.

Second camera is not used for RAW capture. Shooting with both lenses requires the software to blend the 2 captures into a composite image which can only be done as a jpeg, just like any other in-camera effect. I'm using RAW capture in emui 5.0 and frankly I don't see much improvement by shooting RAW on this phone. In fact I think you get better low-light and better HDR performance by shooting with both cameras as a jpeg.
In EMUI 5.0 stock camera has RAW option in "Pro photo" mode.
Simply shooting in RAW format doesn't make your photos look better than jpeg. But editing a RAW photo can help extract much more details as you can seen in the OP example.

Exactly, this will output a regular .dng file which many editor apps like Snapseed can process for you; even the built-in gallery app will do some raw editing adjustments. It gets you far more data in the highlights/shadows to pull out of your photo when editing exposure and color in post.
Sorry to derail this, but I was wondering.
I have a P9 Lite. Several 3rd party camera apps can shoot raw dng, but I'd like to enable that option in the stock camera app. I notice pro mode on the P9 and other higher specced emui 5 phones allows dng capture so I had an idea.
I went out on a limb and tried editing /system/emui/lite/prop/local.prop and set ro.build.hw_emui_lite.enable=false, however I still can't find how to enable raw dng capture in the stock camera app.
Any ideas, tips?

Any other improvements compared to Huaweis app?
As far as we can tell, this camera port relies on the Hexagon 680 DSP on a Snapdragon SoC for image processing, which is why this port does not work on other SoCs such as Kirin, Exynos, and MediaTek.
Does it work or not?

Works on my P10 VTR-L29C432B164 but I can't find any improvements, there isn't a manual mode and the HDR mode is complicate to use.
It does work until I go into settings. After that it immediatly crashes and reboot won't help.

no, 2nd link for snapdragon is the one that works
For the peeps who are saying that it works, yes it works but there is no difference in the photo, I tried this app like five days ago and also tried with the latest release even tho I knew that it needs the snapdragon DSP to work, the app crashes if you change settings and choose limited plus the other recommendations that they give on the thread where they have the app. I tried all of the settings made several photos indoor and outdoor and it doesn't work it just takes the pictures like any other camera app would, it doesn't even have the HDR mode activated, a proof of that is that if you try to take a picture with the regular camera app on HDR and with the HDR+ activated from the app you can clearly see the difference of one that works on HDR and one that doesn't . Video recording also is broken on 60fps and slow motion as well. I uninstalled the app after a couple of days trying it out with every option possible . But the truth is "IT DOESNT PROVIDE ANY BENEFITS OVER THE REGULAR CAMERA APP" with out the HDR+ it's just as any other camera app out there. Honestly I been playing lots with the P10 camera app and have found that it truly is a great cam, I would recommend shooting in RAW mode and using Snapseed for editing. Plus Snapseed has some useful tips on how to improve your skills with photography.

What is Google Camera (AKA GCam)?
Google Camera is the camera app for the Google Nexus and Google Pixel phones. It is not designed or intended to be run on other phones.
What is HDR+?
HDR+ is Google's proprietary image processing routine. HDR+ employs image stacking to control exposure, and also to preserve details, reduce noise, increase sharpness, etc. It is an all-in-one package.

I've used this version:

For nightmode I got much better results but not all things worked on this gcam mod.
Bug: I was trying the app, used the 360 photo function, and after that I tried to use the standard camera, pressed on 0,6 button, it closed and now the app is not starting anymore.
Wide angle and the main cameras are working on this no newest port. 5x is not saving the photos.
https://www.xda-developers.com/goog...ary-camera-support-many-devices-without-root/
I tried even the newest Wichaya v2.7.3 and the 5x zoom doesn't work. Can't shoot photos still. And on the old version it would not work with night sight.
I haven't seen a gcam version where 5x was working.
In Wichaya though, the 5x view finder works i.e. no photos or video.
