Issues with kingo root - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I installed Kingo root app and clicked on one touch root. I got an error as shown in the screenshot, after the setup was 100% complete. Inspite of this error a new app Superuser has been installed in the system which cannot be removed. It is also giving an error when I open it, again check screenshot. I am using Samsung Galaxy SIII Android 4.3. This thing has made my phone really very slow. When I open apps like say Clean Master now it asks whether you want Superuser to allow rights or something to Clean master, there is no difference when I click yes or no. I contacted Kingo Root's customer support but they are not replying. What should I do?

What model do you have?
I rooted my phone using the same method, did a complete removal of it's binary and used SU by Chainfire instead (this was over a year ago)
If you cannot uninstall the new app then it might be a system app, and you know you need root to install an app as a system app, so use root checker to check your root status
Clear /cache partition using your recovery then try again, if you don't know how to access recovery then I don't suggest messing with SuperUser

Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III.
Actually the methods of rooting mentioned here were too complex for me so I tried that app. But it gave an error after the completion of one touch root and now the Superuser app that it has installed also gives an error when I open it and it cannot be removed. Kindly check the screenshots and let me know what should be done in this case?

I did check the screenshots, also did a bit of researching but couldn't find the one for SIII
I used Kingoroot too, it failed several times until I cleared /cache, then the app succeed rooting my phone, have you tried anything of what I mentioned?
- Did you check your root status with root checker?
- Have you tried cleaning /cache then trying again?
Oh yeah I'll try to find the page I used as a reference

I downloaded a root checker app from Play Store, unfortunately when I click on check status it hangs, Could you please share the apk of a good root checker app? I usually clear cache via App Manager app, is that ok or do I need to use some other app for this and then try again rooting?

Hi looks like you missed my point but I'll help
Uninstall root checker now,
1. Hold Volume UP, Power button, and home button at the same time and keep holding them until the Samsung logo comes, then release the combination
2. Use your volume button to navigate the menu and choose clear cache partition
3. Use the power button to select
4. Reboot
5. Try to root again using Kingo Root
Looks like KingUser has messed up your system

You root the I9300 with cfautoroot. You flash it via odin on a pc.. Not rocket surgery.
Now you need to flash a stock rom and start over..

I got all your points dear. If I select "wipe cache partition" using the method that you have mentioned, then will it delete any data from the phone or memory card?
....Looks like KingUser has messed up your system.... True that. When I force stop and disable the superuser app that has been installed in the system by kingo root, the phone speeds up and everything is great.
Why isn't root checker showing whether it is rooted or not? It should do it's job I guess and not display a message that root checker is taking too much time I can wait or force close it..

I know it's not rocket science but 2 things-
a. I am a noob.
b. I do not want any data to be deleted from the phone or memory card while rooting.
Could you please explain....Now you need to flash a stock rom and start over....

It will not delete your data, only your cache which builds up over time
You can root your system easier if you have a PC, not as simple or fast as Kingo Root (apk) method
BUT if KingUser messed up your system be careful, it might cause some cross conflict with cfautoroot

Brother are you sure? What is the difference between clearing cache with any app and with the method that you have mentioned? How much time will it take and do I need to take out the memory card for this?
Rooting the phone with pc method is way too complex for me so I won't be using that method. Plus it deletes the data so a BIG NO.
Why would kingoroot mess up my phone's system? And how to make sure whether it really has?

Yes
Clearing cache on an individual app only clears the cache that it holds
Cleaning cache partition will clear all of them, including the ones which you cannot normally clear
It won't affect your boot time, unless you clear dalvik which isn't available in stock recovery so, the time it takes depends on you
No you don't need to take it out

Cleared cache, took about a second. Should I try to root again with kingo app now? And should I disable or enable the superuser previous installed by kingo?

Yes try again, might be wise to disable the superuser app
I'm assuming you can't uninstall the superuser app because you don't have the option to, which means it is a system app and to convert an app to system app you need permission to write to system, it might partially flashed KingUser into your system, ran into an error and failed to revert back
What Android version are you using?

I tried again but nothing happened when I clicked on one touch root. Should I enable superuser and try again. I am using Andorid 4.3. This was the last OTA update for my phone.
What you have mentioned is exactly what I was thinking.

Apologies for scorning you earlier but it perplexes me why people choose what seems to be the easy way but in fact, due to lack of research, it turns out to be the easy way to break your phone.
Is your device carrier locked?.
Which software version is it on?.
It isn't broken. Those 3rd party root programs embed themselves into system and you cannot remove them by regular means. It must be removed by script from within recovery and replaced with the proper supersu by chainfire.
Either, neither, or.. It makes no difference now. You should flash a stock rom and start over because the method you have chosen has locked you out when the purpose was to gain complete control.
If you are using the international I9300 i can provide you with the software you need to recover the device back to stock but it will be 4.3. I will also provide all the rooting software too, all from my google drive.

I work for like 8-10 hours, a sitting job but the mental pressure is way too high. Then I am underpaid, who isn't? Then there are family issues and stuff. So, in my life I don't have the time to do all the research and everything. When I had time in college I hacked my Nokie S60v3 phone N73ME using the secman method. I bought this phone in 2012. I was waiting for a simple method as trust me I don't have the time and life to do all the research. So, this is why I used this simple method.
It has not locked me out. The thing is when I turn on superuser my phone hangs and when I turn it off it works well. I am using I9300 with 1 gigs of ram. I am from India so I guess that it's an international version. It has Android version 4.3. It is not carrier locked. I have mentioned every other detail in the thread.

I don't know what's going on, you might have to flash stock and do it again

Ill try it on Wednesday when I get the device. Atleast we can use titanium.
One thing I was thinking is there any way we can boot into custom recovery with temp root? Because I know on one phone that I rooted for someone it would just reboot into a temporary custom recovery from which stuff could be flashed. Obviously if it boot looped you needed to RUU restore but it was worth the trouble to get root.
is this wireless tether app susceptible to verizon identifying unauthorized wifi tether use? I know on other devices only certain ROMS are safe.
Just tried this. Unfortunately it doesn't work at all for me. I tried running Cache Cleaner NG and it said that it was unable to get root permissions. I tried clicking on SuperUser (the app itself) and it FCs every time.
EDIT: Rebooted and tried again and it appears to be working.
EDIT2: Not working again. Seems to only last a few minutes.
Alright enough is enough. Imma try it.now. all this talk about root is driving me nuts. Thanks Nils..

I tried to get temp root using the zerg technique, and it didn't work too good. I want to try this method, but I'm not sure how to remove the Superuser from my first attempt. It doesn't show up as an uninstallable app. Can anyone shed some light for me? Thanks!

You know, you can go into SETTINGS>SD & Phone Storage and remount it that way... for next time.
I tried this and mine also unmounted my SD Card and Titanium didn't have root access. Uninstalled Titanium and the phone rebooted on its own and is now in a an infinite boot loop. Guess I am going to have to use HBOOT, wipe the phone and start ALL FREAKING OVER AGAIN! fml

To answer this question, yes they do!!!
So let's start a "What can we safely freeze" list. I was pretty conservative the first time:
Blockbuster
Backup Assistant
VCast
VCast Music
Let's Play Golf
Need for Speed
Rebooted and they're all still gone. Root has been lost though, I'd have to re-run the app to get root back.

I am having the same issue with applying the update, root installs fine and when I reboot root is gone, along with Superuser, Busybox, etc. installed it a few times and every time I reboot root gets lost.

Thats the whole point of TEMP root. When you reboot, Root is GONE. You have to Re-root every time you reboot your phone.

Problems with root (some apps work, some not)

Hey guys, hate starting new threads, but this time I just had to. Here's the deal:
First I had a Galaxy Ace. I rooted it, and used root normally for a couple of months. Then something went bazzerk (don't know how to spell bazzerk xD), just as it is on my new Xperia neo. My root explorer works flawlessly and I'm able to mount my system r\o / r\w when ever I want and explore all sys files. BUT, my ROM toolbox, GO backup, etc. all apps that actualy "touch" system files (I mean change or retrieve the above), freeze when a command is given. I.e. I want to move an unmovable app to the sd card. The file IS moved, but the app freezes on "loading". GO backup: I restore a file, it's completely restored, but the app frezzes on 99% even though the job's done. Why is this happening, and is there a way to fix it?
Thank you all, and cheers
P.S. This problem sometimes just vanshies, but it's back a few days later.
P.P.S. I tried restarting, taking the battery out, restarting SU, and restarting the freezing apps, nothing erases the problem.
Have to you tried to factory reset in your phones settings?
If you´re rooted check the superuser app and loock at the log
what does superuser state?

Installed, checked. Says it's rooted. I'm using Superuser and it's reporting no problems. Still freezes when an app changes something.
The thing is root works, I mean I can backup\restore app data, freeze apps, etc. but after the phone does this, the app freezes, even though it's done. A very strange problem. Is there anything I could have accidently made to brake it (exept disallowing an app from Superuser rights, I checked that three times; allways allowed) ?
I remember that i faced such problems a few weeks ago...
some root file explorers denied me the acces to the root files while i tried to change a bootanimation
root acces was granted but it didnt worked
afterwards i tried another root file explorer and it worked fine
why ?
i dont know but something went wrong with the first file browser
Try SuperSU v0.95

Thank you all, it so happened that this version of Superuser didn't quite well support these versions of apps. Just changed the ROM Toolbox to a newer version, and it works perfectly.
:good:
apparently not working after root
noob here, I did my first root today, and have only been an android user for 2 weeks after defecting from apple since the first iphone. I was a jailbreak veteran of idevices, but I got bored with the stale bread, so I spent my taxmas on a Samsung galaxy s4. Specifically wanting the i9500 version so it would be unlocked to use on net10. I followed the steps from website, and video on Odin. And it looked like it worked perfectly. It wasn't until I tried to my photo gallery app to look at some pictures, and it crashed and wouldn't load. I had the same issue with a business calendar issue app that wouldn't open. I tried clearing system cache on gallery app but no luck. I'm afraid I'm in over my own head now, and might want to restore and start from scratch. The first thing I did after rooting was a full Titanium backup. only things that I installed after root was xposed installer and an app within the installer called swipeback.
I would like to know if there is a fix for this, without having to break away from root? Or if I must, how do I know which stock file I need. I know it's i9500ubueMk1 but there's many different regions.. I bought from a best buy in Charlotte . If there isn't a simple fix to fix why my apps aren't working, then the root does more harm than good, and I wanna go back to normal.
Someone please walk me through this!!
thanks

As others have stated the app can learn and does so with all remotes
SO easy!! Love this thing.
Yea it can learn by going into the universal remote and creating one by following the directions of course i have no remote for my tv but i do for the cable box
Have a 55" vizio. All commands are working, just a bit different from remote. Charter keys don't work, but all menu keyss through menu are working. Just a bit different placement.
Is it possible to reinstall Quick Remote on LG G2
Hi,
My Quick Remote stopped working. When I touch it, all I get is two LG documents. I tried to reinstall an apk file, but all I get is that my current installation failed since such a program already exists.
How can I regain Quick Remote capabilitiers?
Is there a way uninstalling and reinstalling it?
Is there any other way?
In addition, some sources offer a single file, LGQRemote.apk, some a pair - LGQRemote.apk and LGQRemote.odex and some three pairs - LGQRemote.apk' LGQRemote.odex, QuickSet.apk, QuickSet.odex, QuicksetSDK.apk and QuicksetSDK.odex.
Which ones should I use? And, if a pair' how do I relate to the *.odex files?

Try to go to settings>apps and then system apps and find the quick remote and wipe cache and updates if there are.
The odex is also if you have odexed system (stock) and deodexed so without odex probably for modified stock or deodexed stock.
No "System Apps"

Thanks, wulsic.
Tried to locate the "System Apps"', but there's no reference to these applications in my "Apps" list.
May I need a third party tool for this task?

Well, I wish I had it. Checked my list and no sign for its existance. Still, when I try to unstall, installation fails.
Can it be a hidden installation?
Is there a possibility for an application to reported without it being listed?

Do you have the app in the launcher? All the system apps must be listed in this tab. Maybe you have it installed in /data and should be listed in the first tab in this case...
For the installation fail,if you have recovery go and wipe cache and dalvik, sometimes app cache/dalvik got corrupted and you can't reinstall it.
If you have recovery find the thread for quickremote for aosp and try to flash it,maybe it will work.
If you have only root, try to manually replace them and don't forget to set right permissions.
P.s.- Of you have root try to search /data for "remote" and delete all you thing is connected with the app, then try to install it again.

Unfortunately, I took no precautions with my LG G2 and have no recovery options.
I tried your last resort option, "try to search /data for "remote" and delete all you thing is connected with the app", but since android experience is very short. I encounter difficulties implementing it.
How do I run a search for "Remote" in "/data"? I've these apps on my unit: root browser, root checker, ES File Explorer. Do I need anything else?

This is only going to end in tears and bricks.
I think you have some other issue, if you say you get "LG Documents" maybe you didn't actually get the QR files to install at all? I'd re-do whatever install steps.
And as for the install location, you have to flash the zip, therefore the two APKs that installed are:
/system/app/LGQRemote.ap
/system/app/QuicksetSDK.apk
There are some other files which the zip installs.
How exactly did you install it in the first place? I haven't seen anything where you just install the APKs.
QR installation

My LG G2 came with QR preinstalled. It stopped working, but I don't have a clue as to the circumstances.
I found the installation files in the /system/app/, but can't install them. The installation end up with a failure. Some files must be cleaned first, but which ones, I don't know.

I made that couple of times in my expiriens with android(almost 4 years),without problems and bricks, but there is always a risk.
On the problem.
If the files are in /system/app ,they are already installed and you dont need to install them from there.Download the zip for the aosp mod, open it and see what files and where they need to be placed, then backup the original apks from the /system/app(just copy them somewhere in your SDcard) and then replace them with the apks from the aosp zip.Dont forget to change permissions on all the files you'r replaced to rw-r--r--.
Good luck

So Quick Remote is just not working, you haven't modified the ROM, or changed the ROM in any way??

I did the following:
1. Installed TWRP 2.7.1.0 touch recovery (which, I believe, won't do any good' or bad' for my current problem).
2. Renamed the apk files using SystemCleanUp. Then' reinstalled the program. The results: no change, running QR opens the LG user document.
3. Cleaned the davik cache. (No change).
As to the AOSP installation, please refer me to a reliable howto reference. I've never installed a MOD on an android

Today my s4 lost root out of the blue(i was changing wifi settings at the time).i went to root explorer and its saying i dont have root.I checked Titanium and supersu and they all report its gone.
I had used towelrootv2 i believe, to root my phone.I 've not had any issues with it for about a year now.I froze the service that allows updates so i know it didn't update.
Attached is my phone info. Im really at a loss at how to proceed here, I've spent about 4 hours trying various options but it just dosen't seem to be working.
Trying the towelroot+supersu combo dosent work.Supersu reports there is no su binary.Checking i can verify that no su binary is being created. All "root checker" programs show an empty line for status when checking.I tried motochopper but it failed on the rooting part.I ran the adb commands manually and the result was the same.I run linux, but do have a windows machine available.I dont care about warranty(its already expired) but i would like to retain all data,mms/sms etc.All personal data has been backed up.

Very odd. I would try to use Odin or Safestrap, but you need all your data... My suggestion is normally Odin, but:
A) You need data
B) Odin seems to be screwing up a lot lately
This problem was because the Security manager was updated thru the play store! It automatically pushes to your device...Then protects against root! You didn't freeze the Security updater in titanium. :/ unfortunately...You may have to back up and start from scratch. I can help you!
I have all the packages from Verizon

It updates the selinix partition, you can try to undo the app update, clear data, then use towelroot....but that would be the best you could do. If that doesn't work...Then you have to start over

Temporary root for DiskDigger

Hi
I'm trying to use DiskDigger in order to retrieve some deleted pictures, but I need to root my phone in order to retrieve the original files.
I've been searching for guides, but I'm too afraid of doing something stupid and brick my phone.
I have a Huawei CUN-L01
Can somebody help me out?

you can try kingo root but I have to warn you that you verify that the website you download from is legit and not a a phishing website Lord of the root apk is not infact root apk but malware.
if you are on anything which is Android 6 plus chances that this APK will not root your phone because of security enhancements in that case your only choice is to to find a TWRP recovery for your phone Google TWRP and your phone name number follow instructions to flash it most of the time putting your phone in fastboot and flashing the image does the job and after that you can install magisk which will root your phone .With the option magisk hide enable you can fool other apps that your phone is not rooted or you can disable the superuser or root completely within magisk manager and use as non rooted phone.

My Android version is 5.1, but I heard really bad things about Kingo.
I tried TWRP Recovery, but my device is not listed.
Also, I'd like to know: is it true that rooting wipes all data from your phone? I'm trying to retrieve deleted pictures, so I need the data.

When you plug the phone / tablet to a computer you need to pull down from the top and look for Android System and something to do with USB / click this and choose Media Device or file transfer the PC should reconnect and make a sound. Now you should see all the folders in Internal storage and External storage (if you have a sdcard in the device)
make a folder on your pc and copy everything from the device to your pc
I personally use Google photos to keep those backed up and available on all my devices
Amazon Photos works just as well or you can even use both

Yeah I'll be using Google Photos from now on, it's just a bummer since I lost some pics I really cared about
Anyway, I've tried to copy, but I get an Unspecified Error
I don't understand
Edit: Ok, apparently the only folders I cannot copy are the Whatsapp and Android folders. I think I can just ignore them, since all the cached pics I want to recover are stored in the CloudDrive folder.
So, back to the root.
Is Kingo REALLY that malicious? I don't wanna risk any permanent damage on my phone (Android version 5.1)
And about TWRP: I got the app installed, but my device (CUN-L01) is not listed
kingo is not open source and when it and roots your phone it install some other bloatware app as well .As long as it's capable of rooting your phone go ahead and use it but make sure you to get rid of it after the diskdigger work is over
so yes something you may want to try
backup all your data photos call logs SMS etc , install kingo root app and get root { , if you want to keep permanent root then and at this stage you can download and install TWRP directly as a rooted user without going through the long drawn procedure of fast booting & once you have TWRP installed then replace your kingo app with your favourite root app and throw out kingo }
, do your diskdigger work and then un install kingo root app
there is a desktop and Android version both . the desktop version is supposed to be more powerful make sure you uninstall all the apps once your job is over also make sure that you are downloading the correct kingoapp because there are some of other 'viral' versions , that may install undesirable bloatware but will not roat
diskdigger alternative is phone paw you may want to try that as well I don't think that needs root it's PC based photo recovery software

If you put it that way, Kingo looks less meancing.
I'm not interested in a constantly rooted phone, just need it temporarily, so...
Sorry if I ask, but any of you have a reliable download link for Kingo? I really have no idea where should I look for a "safe" version.
Also, what do you mean by "make sure you uninstall all the apps once your job is over" ? Uninstalling Kingo is not enough?
there is a king root and there is the kingo root and I have not used both this crapwares for quite a long time I used them when I was on 4.x and rather new to this Android cynogen factory. At that time TWRP was a bit new and not every phone had a TWRP.
so I think I probably referred to kingroot and not kingo root
https://kingrootapp.net/
don't recollect but either or both of these apps also install some other bloatware apps that pretended to save your battery and show you how faster phone is charging ...whatever
uninstall all the apps that were installed after your 'root work' is over

That's a good start :good:
Ok so, I'm not downloading anything from that link
Also, I keep reading awful things about this root method. Like it sends your email to some shady companies and such. I'm not even sure it will work with my phone, it may brick it.
So, I'll stick with TWRP

First step unlock the bootload, on Huawei It's a pay service, check eBay or
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
Second step you need a patched boot.img made with magisk. Most times you can get the stock boot.img from an OTA update.zip
Copy it to the phone and use magisk manager to install (patch) the stock file.
Now you copy the patched file to your PC fastboot folder.
Third and last step is to fastboot flash the patched boot img
The command is
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
Reboot and you have a rooted device

Here is how to do it
First things first, never use one click root apps! they install spyware and stuff, and they achieve root access in your phone by using vulnerabilities. The proper way to root it is the one by which you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery like twrp, I found a post here https://techelucid.com/root-huawei-y5-ii/ ,follow it and try to use magisk instead of supersu, its more updated and can hide your root access, you can use supersu it work too but some apps won't work with root access enabled, magisk can hide this. Both can give you root access

well it sounded like this person just wanted a one shot one time root and out method which is why I suggested King root if it works. afterwards all that crapwhere can be deleted.
the other option was also mentioned that is TWRP and magisk .bootloader unlocking need not always be paid service lot of things allowed here on how to unlock bootloader but first we have to make sure if his bootloader is locked or unlocked.
turn on developer settings and oem unlock switch if that is present that mean the bootloader is unlocked and in fact this step of buying a service to unlock bootloader is redundant
I was trying to keep the thread as simple as possible without going into the depth of all the under the hood methods but sound like after all ,all the mechanics have opened up the hood and now we are getting to the engine
whatever works .....it sounds like he's getting good help so wish him good luck
