Gs4 wont play music - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Hi there,
I recently downloaded a custom ROM and installed gapps to go with it (cm13 with gapps 6.0 from the open gapps). And I have been running into problems with Google music not wanting to play music. I get the error ( music temporary unavailable couldn't play the steam requested). I also get that error from the stock music app that comes with phone, i have also tried spotify which looked like it was playing but i could not get sound internal speaker headphones or with bluetooth speaker.I have formated my phone reinstalled everything with the same result. I've also tried cm12.1 and omnirom with different versions of android and I still get the same result. My sim card slot died last week so I was going to use this as a music player. What would be causing this and is there a way to fix it?
What is this cord for could it be causing problems with audio files not playing?

Phone is Samsung s4 i337m but I have done something and my phone is now recognized as a i9505.
Thanks

[Q] Strange Earphone Problem - Music Only Playing in Background

Hey everyone. I'm in desperate need of help. I'm wondering whether my earphone jack in my phone is just broken or this is some sort of software issue. I either can't find anything about this problem anywhere else or I'm just searching the wrong keywords.
My international SGS3 with the latest nightly version of CM11 recently started having this weird problem where I would start music playing in Apollo, PlayerPro or Rocket Player (does it in all of them) and there was no sound coming through the earphones at all. I then discovered that when I pressed my home button and minimised the app, the music started playing. However, if I touch anything (status bar, open another app) the music stops immediately until I put it back to the home screen. Music works fine when playing music through the loudspeaker, and I've tried many different pairs of earphones.
I've seen strange stuff where the music can't play in the background but never that it can't play in anything but the background. Will I buy a replacement earphone jack or is there something I can do to fix it without taking my phone to bits?

It seems to be something to do with the newest CM11 build...
Make a nandroid backup, flash another AOSP/Sammy's rom (i recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603155 )
and see if the problem continues

It wasn't working before I updated it and it still isn't working. Why is no one else having this problem with CM11?

So do you think it will be fixed? I think I'm going to flash my phone back to stock . Not liking this problem.

Lollipop woes

So i recently updated to lollipop and its been pretty much a nightmare since. I've managed to solve most of my problems but two still remain.
1. I can play more than one song, once i try and skip to the next one it doesn't play and eventually the whole rom crashes. This has happened on several roms.
2. If my heaphones come unplugged while playing music i have to completely unplug them before i can get music to restart. There seems to be a detection issue of some sort.
im thinking there maybe a problem with cyanogen recovery but was hoping someone could chime in.
Much thanks.
doesnt look like anyone can help but I've figured out that i can play music i just cannot pause or skip to the next song, this includes streaming and using another app such as mx player. If i pause and say try and watch a movie it still requires me to reboot,.
check headphone jack, plug, sd card, clear media cache/app data

[Q] Bluetooth makes phone reboot when playing music on car stereo

hi XDA
When playing music using google music. , the phone crashes after a random amount of time, usually mid way trough song.
The type of file doesn't matter, CD rips, play downloads, all cause random phone reboots .
I'm running CM12.1, build no. 20150531-unofficial-i9300
I'm going to try and change rom to see if this helps
I guess this is just the kind of hing that happens when running unofficial roms
I've tried disabling the cm music plugin and clearing Bluetooth data to no avail .
I have the same problem! I have used CM12.1 unofficial on my i9300. Then I have updated to other rom and the problem started to occur. The phone reboots after 30-50s of streaming while connected to my car media system via the bluetooth. I have tried both Archis and now arter97 kernels but the problem seems to be kernel-independent. What connects the roms is that it's android 5.1.1 in both of them. In the case of Android 5.1 the BT connection worked fine. Any help?? How can I troubleshoot it?

Spotify makes system audio stop working

So this is a little hard to explain.
***EDIT: ITS ANY APP THAT USES INTERNET FOR AUDIO THAT COMPLETELY STOPPED BLUETOOTH***
I tried to use youtube to play a song over bluetooth and it completely locked up the app and I had to force close ON THE NEW PHONE AND OLD PHONE
AND NOW IT JUST MADE THE PHONE RESTART BY ITS SELF
Is this a rom problem?
The other day i was trying to listen to some music using a cracked version of spotify that I've used for over a year with no problem. The audio randomly stopped working, so I tried to just use the stock music player because I was going to an area where I didnt have any service anyway. The stock music player wouldn't work. I made sure it was playing by looking at the seek bar and it would sometimes start at 0:01, then jump to 0:05 and so on but no audio was coming through. The only way to make system audio work again, is to completely restart the phone. I uninstalled spotify, and the problem never came back until I reinstalled spotify with a different version, hoping it'd fix the problem. It hasnt. So, I decided to use a different phone but the same model phone, rooted, with the same rom, and it did it again. ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHONE. I don't know what happened, but even on a clean flash, with no other apps installed, spotify kills my bluetooth and system audio.
What the hell is going on?
The android version is 4.4.2, and it's a stock rooted deodexed rom.

Sound suddenly stopped working

Hi everyone, I've just bought a preowned Nexus 9 LTE perfectly working but a couple of days ago audio stopped working both on speakers and headphone jack.
YouTube is showing message saying "There was a problem while playing, playback id XXXXXXXXXXXXX, tap to retry" both using the app or the browser, videos only start when browsing in incognito mode but without audio. Netflix has the same behaviour as YouTube (the error is 'there is a problem playing the video.please try again (5.0)'
Cleaning the apps' cache or wiping the cache partition via recovery didn't work.
Now it comes to the even weirder thing, as i connected my bluetooth headphones everything magically worked fine.
Device has unlocked bootloader, TWRP and latest stock ROM.
------------------------ Edit ---------------------------
I tried flashing LineageOS 15.1 + Opengapps micro, videos on YouTube start now but still i get no audio from speakers or wired headphones. Netflix still can't can't play movies, error is the same as above.
On LineageOS i get an error at startup saying 'AudioFX has stopped' then i decided to install Viper4AndroidFX via Magisk, the app crash after cuople of seconds i open it!
Has anyone experienced the same or has any clue what's going on? Do you think is it an hardware issue? Any suggestion is appreciated and if further information is needed it will be provided
The ROM i tried (and i suggest since it runs very smoothly) can be found here:
