I need some help or guide here please.. i was on latest 5.1.1 updated, after successfully rooted my phone everything was perfect, untill i was trying to go back to stock.. i restored my nandroid backup and the phone successfully boot up, but there were no app nor partitions no anything.. i flash Candy5 Rom, and everything seems to work perfectly or any other rom.. but when trying to get back to stock nothing happens.. it just wipe everything and the phone wont boot at all unless i reflash any other custom rom.
when i am on recovery, i can see my phone storage and every files as my sdcard, what i believe that the phone has just only been wipe out but any of the update zip from this thread or any other i been trying to get back to factory stock has work.. i have try many thing with FlashTool,, i flash systems img, boots, img, everything you can think of to try get it back to stock.. and end up with the same results,.. some how messing around in recovery mode (flashtool hotboot dumkernel and other kernels that allow me to enter in recovery) i noticed, that system partition does not mount .. is there any idea or sucgestion .. i would really appreciated.. thanks in advance.

I was running the latest CM7 nightly for a while (release 116). I decided to give CM9 a try. I wanted to go back to CM7 so I tried flashing back but something went wrong. I had backup so I tried restoring that in CWM but it gave me a checksum error.
So I tried out the vanilla ICS 4.0.3 (KP8) build using odin. Used it for a bit and then decided to go back to CM7. I flashed to my original OS using ODIN, rooted the phone. Now, whenever I try to flash anything in CWM, it installs but then just goes into a endless boot sequences. Tried flashing MIUI and CM7 with no luck.
I'm on a rooted KI3 release atm.
How can I completely wipe my phone? I've reformatted my external and usb storage with no luck.

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Root with same CWM as backup .
Boot recovery restore backup .

Thanks! Following the processes. Wasn't able to unmount SD card to format it but /data /system and /cache formatted fine. *crosses fingers*
going to use a freshly downloaded copy of CM7 nightly too incase my old zip got corrupted somehow.
I can install my stock firmware and root it with odin.
But, once I try to install Rom Manager and update CWM recovery things start going wrong. It reboots into the regular android recovery console and fails to install the update.
But, if I battery pull and boot into recovery it boots into CWM recovery 4.0.0.5. I can apply the update.zip ROM manager downloaded. But, then when I try to flash anything it doesn't install properly and I get stuck in an endless boot loop. Can't even boot into recovery. Have to start all over again with ODIN.
Rom Manager is causing you grief.
Had a similar thing happen a while back. I wouldn't use it at all if I were you and stick to using CW Recovery. I don't know the why/how/wherefore, I just know that time I tried to use it, it broke recovery & put me in a bootloop same as you.
Apologies this is my first post and am asking for help but this is driving me crazy now!
I don't seem to be able to flash ANY ROM zip files through CWM. When I try to install a Rom it loads for about 20seconds, says "finding update zip" "installing update zip" then "zip installed " then when it reboots it is stuck in a loop on the Samsung logo start up screen (one with the yellow triangle to say it is rooted).
Only thing I can do to get it working is to flash a ROM (new stock ICS one) through Odin, then root and restore from my backup - the only backup that will work is my backup of the ICS ROM none of my other backups work CM7 / CM9 if I try and restore them I just get in to the same loop.
I have tried this loads of times now - factory reset, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, format system partition. I have tried installing ROM zip files twice etc etc.
This went wrong when I flashed the new stock ICS ROM in odin then tried to do a restore to CM7 not sure what I have managed to do to get it like this.
Anyone any ideas of what I can do to get it so I can install ROM's via CWM again so I can get back to CM7 or CM9?
Any help much appreciated - thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried flashing a new kernel a few times now but still get the same thing when I try and flash a new ROM in CWM, the install takes about 20 seconds then the phone is stuck in a loop at the first boot screen.
Any more ideas on what I can do?
:edit:
aha fixed this now, I followed this excellent guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 on Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII had to do the bootloader to get it to work.
I have a rooted s-on Evo 3D and Im trying to put my moms number on it since I got a new phone, but I keep getting an error I'm running a custom rom and I'm pretty sure you need to be on the stock rom so you could actually change numbers, I need to go back to to the stock rom, I have it backed up but I'm on a different kernel and since I can't just restore it I need to flash the kernel first of my back up, ive been using flash image GUI for flashing my roms but I don't know how to restore the back up I have of the stock rom, if I just restore it won't flash the kernel. Someone please help me. I can can fastboot I think, restore The backup. Does anyone have the link for the intructions? I can't find the thread that they made. Thanks.
What rom are you on? when you flashed it did you clear dalvik cache first?
Also you can try and go into custom recovery and clear you dalvik cache and see if that works!
Sometime (in my experience anyways) I have had to re-flash the rom because it was messing up after instal ie. FC on all apps but a fresh install worked like a charm.
Hi guys,
I'm really hoping someone can help me out here.. I'm rooted and was running the stock rom.. decided tonight that I would download and flash the new Jellybomb ROM for my GN3. After doing a titanium backup and downloading the rom file.. I opened my CWM, made a nandroid backup, wiped cache, dalvic and did a facory/data reset.. Just after doing that, I went to flash the rom but for some reason, I didn't see it on my extSD card.. So I restored my backup and went to go hunt through the phone to find it's location..
Well, after restoring and rebooting, It's stuck in a bootloop.. I pulled the battery and tried re-restoring.. same problem.. then I just cleared everything and factory/data wipe... still in a bootloop... going nuts!
I really hope someone can help me out, here!
Thanks in advance!

for some reason our phone doesnt like cwm recovery i bootlooped my phone the very first day i got it...twrp is highly recommended. the way to fix your phone is to odin it back to stock before your phone boots...put your phone into STOCK recovery and wipe it...wipe everything which will get rid of the custom tag...put the phone in download mode and odin it back to stock a second time. reroot your phone and then odin in twrp..flash the new rom you want in twrp the phone should make it to the yellow screen with a semiblinking blue light and then it should boot within 5min

Thank you very much!!! I actually, before getting this post, went to Odin and unrooted, then rerooted still using CWM and got lucky cuz this time it actually let me run the new ROM. Thanks for the info though!! If I have any more problems, I'll at least know a better way to go about fixing it!
