Hey gang, needing some help in regards to Odin and Kies.
Apologies if this has been answered but ive been all over the net trying to find a soloution and as Princess Leia says, "youre my only hope".
Ok the main issue im facing is ODIN doesnt recognise my phone when connected.
The installed software i have is as follows:
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: I9100XXKI3
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKI3-CL577579 [email protected]
Build Number: Gingerbread.XXKI3
Now i can put my unit into download mode but ODIN doesnt pick up on it.
I also have a connection issue with Kies not seeing my phone either, although when i connect my unit to my pc (alienware m11xr2) it gives me the option to connect as USB storage..?
What im wondering now is there any soloution to this?
Can i root from the unit directly as i cant get ODIN to see my unit?
Thankyou in advance for any help given to both issues
Uninstall/reinstall Kies on your PC (with a reboot of the PC after each step). Try different USB cables, try different USB ports. When you're using Odin, check Task Manager in Windoze & make sure Kies isn't running/kill it if it is running (Odin & Kies don't play well together tho you need Kies drivers to use Odin).
Try a different PC/different OS if all else fails.
You can't root directly from the phone as far as I'm aware. If you're using Odin 3 v1.85, try Odin 3 v1.3.

Make sure USB debugging is checked under settings. If Odin worked before on your computer, try a different one. Install proper drivers and reconnect your phone to the different computer.
Are you using Windows 7? If yes then you should try installing Samsung Drivers in compatibility mode for Win XP and then go to device manager in PC and under USB Serial Controller dropdown, you'll see "USB Composite Device"(maybe 2)..Just update its driver, after update it should show "Samsung USB composite device".
Do it with phone connected to PC and USB debugging UNCHECKED. I'll post screenshots when i go home.
You can use mobile odin to flash and root. Use Kies Air to get the file onto the phone.
Edit: Disregard you need to be rooted to use the app.

thanks mistah bungle, ill have a go now and ill let you know how i get on
OK, tried all mentioned steps Mistah Bungle and no joy.
Uninstalled Kies,rebooted no change.
Rebooted tied Odin both 1.5 and 1.3 no change.
Rebooted tried all USB ports no change.
When plugging in the USB cables though and watching the laptop install the drivers i noticed that the 1st step was ticked and the 2nd (USB Driver) crossed, this occured on all USB ports on my laptop.
I managed to download the SAMSUNG USB Mobile Driver onto my laptop but still nothing changed.
Also have tried ODIN with USB debugging on and off just to be sure but still no change.
Just for your knowledge, my laptops running win7 64bit, 8GB RAM,icore 7 etc
Just seems strange how ODIN used to work before when flashing my device and suddenly this stops..?
lol thanks...well almost
looking forward to seeing if this helps, awaiting yr screen shots etc
Another PC looks like the only way you're going to get it done in that case. Yes it's strange, as to why, that's anyone's guess.
i am also running windows 7 64 bit and odin works great for me. One thing you can try is see if the phone is being detected under USB in Device manager and if you see it there right click on it and click uninstall and then right click and select scan for hardware changes and it should pick up the drives again. Also try disabling UAC(user account control) reboot then try. Let me know if it works.
...
ok went to Device manager as in picture 1 and deleted Samsung Mobile USB modem, unknown device and GT-I9100.
Then plugged phone back into USB and have now, as in picture 2
Thanks in advance people
Are you following the basics ,
Use the USB cable that came with the phone and only connect to a USB mainboard port .

OK god knows how i manged it but managed to get USB Debugging selected, used zerg exploit to gain root access to my phone (confirmed this using ROOT Check Basic from Android Market)
Now all i have to do is install clockwork mod again
????
Tried Clockwork aborts...
What does work right now?? U can boot phone? Access cwm but it reboots?
I had the same issue but very simple to resolve. First thing don't use usb netconnect at the same time when using phone data cable and if u r using front side slots for usb they may conflict with other usb devices drivers ...most commonly with usb netconnect... So use back side slots when phone is in normal mode..... Re- installing and unistalling will not resolve this... And be patience..... Be sure drivers are installed and if installed then no need to uninstalling and reinstalling... 100% it will work

Ok i can boot the unit on and have clockwork mod installed, i have checked that the unit has root access.
I put the unit into recovery with clockwork mod, this is what i get:
--Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
so i have to reboot.
Powers up showing no yellow triangle (yet when in download mode says 3rd custom binary and below samsung official).
powers on,seems to be ok then the voice talk app opens, i try and close and this goes on for minutes,on off,on off, i turn the phones screen off,it comes back on
This unit is very unstable at the moment for example:
The unit again is now not recognised by the USB ports allowing me to mke it seen as an external memory device from unit. ,its deffantly the unit, now that i managed to get root access i was going to transfer odin mobile accross from my pc and lightning 6.1 tar, then hopefully reboot, install odin flash lightning and viola problem solved....no such luck.
Voice talk is activating itself now continuesly opening as stated and putting the phone into car mode, just when i think i have 1 problem solved its giving me some thing else to contend with.
i admit im not the most technical at this and need step by step instructions but ive flashed over 50 ROMs/updates on this unit with no issues what so ever, maybe ive just pushed the poor lil bastard too hard for too long (since the day i got it, its been flashed) and possibly its getting revenge because it knows its just a matter of time until i get the SG3...?
I have the will and the patience to want to win this battle im having as i love the phone, but maybe the day is coming where phone meets wall, lol?
anybody?
OK managed to bluetooth ODIN mobile and lightning 6.1 tar onto the unit, hopefully have just flashed the phone....fingers crossed...
Well thats killed it, now unit is stuck on Samsung Galaxy s2 screen and wont boot up.
Can get to download mode but still not recognised by ODIN.
Vol Up, Power On, Home key gets me to clockwork Mod 4.0.0.2, go to install zip from sd card and wont select choose zip from sd card.
On screen says:
ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.2
E: Cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Cant mount / cache recovery / log
E: Cant open / cache recovery log
E: Cant mount /cache recovery/last log

Hey,
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but couldn't find the thread. I wanted to install CWM on my phone, and installed i9100xxkp8 to root it later. Now once i installed i9100xxkp8 using Odin, Odin doesn't detect my phone anymore. The laptop I'm using is detecting it fine when the phone is switched on, but as soon as I switch to download mode, it says the USB device is not recognised.
I've a feeling this may be due to samsung MTP drivers in the phone?
Since I can't run Odin, i can't install CWM, and can't get out of this old buggy OS!
anybody has any ideas?
Thanks!
Saad Waseem.
uninstall the KEIS and reinstall and reboot PC and try...

if no hope after all the possible ways...
you can try this :
Root your phone with this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
and download Mobile Odin, install CF-root kernel from that...
Mobile Odin thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
then you can get out of this buggy ROM, by flashing any custom ROM.
all that or simple put your PC online, every time you flash new ROM, windows install drivers, after that it will work.
that's for windows 7, cant say for other OS.
also try changing cable / usb port of laptop
einstall the samsung drivers and odin will work...

Did you try to rectify connection problem first as all other suggested....
See I gave you a suggetion and a link to another thread which is working perfect for most of the users and also sticked by Moderator on his sticky thread, please go through that thread to find out wheather such error is reported or not.
please check, there must be a solution for your problem...
I suffered the same problem as you, and fixed it by flashing through ODIN another capable CWM kernel.
In my case, N.E.A.K. kernel.
Hope that helps
Flash a Kernel via Odin, from here
I suggest LPB, LPQ, or LPS. Good luck

Why on earth would he want to flash one of those three if he is on XXKP8?
I have exactly the same problem:
My phone is recognised when switch on normally. When in download mode I get the "USB device is not recognised"
This means I can't use Odin to flash a new anything, as it won't recognise the device when it's in download mode! Is there a problem with the USB drivers on the phone (I have a ROM install crash on me - thank you Keis!) Is there any way to fix them. Is there any other way to get around the problem?
It's not a problem with the USB cable, or the USB socket, or the PC - there is something wrong with the "drivers?" being used/invoked by the phone in Download mode.
"It's not a problem with the USB cable, or the USB socket, or the PC - there is something wrong with the "drivers?"
OK, that being the case, time to think logically...
If you have Kies installed on your PC - uninstall it, reboot, re-download it, reinstall it, reboot. If you don't have it installed, download/install it & reboot. Also run Windoze update. When you run Odin, you must run it as admin on the PC you're using. And most importantly, when you do run Odin, check task manager to ensure Kies or any of its processes aren't running in the background. If they are, kill them.
Also, despite you saying it isn't one of these issues, rather than saying 'but I know it's not this ! (even tho I haven't tried/tested for problems around these)' try different USB cables (use the one supplied with the phone if you're not now), different USB ports (must use a powered/mainboard port) and also try different versions of Odin (Google them).
Thanks for the quick response:

-I did this as my first step, Although having Kies active as a process borked my flash (my bad - forgot it was installed - usually just use the Google drivers from the dev kit), it has never prevented Odin from seeing my phone in download mode before.

I have tried a different cable, a different port (all of them) a powered hub etc...
I have previously flashed this phone with my current version of Odin. There is no reason that any of the above should apply to my case (I know logic doesn't always apply, sometimes...China...
Again. Everything worked fine, I flashed the kernels and various ROMs without issue. I had a bad flash (via odin) that hung. On reboot I was able to recover the phone via CWM back to 4.0.3 (ie. the version prior to the failed flash.)
The phone and computer chat happily when the phone in on normally (dev mode and normal). When I boot into Download mode I get the error, hence it would appear that the issue lies with whatever driver is invoked by the phone in download mode - the question is, how do I fix it? To be clear, Odin sees the phone when it is booted normally, but not when in download mode.
I am at a loss, I assume something in the nand was corrupted during the flash - not sure exactly what...
Boy is my face red!
Having tried every combination of cable / usb port I could, I managed to dig out an old dual usb powered cable (takes power from a 2nd usb port to power the device) and it worked! I guess it just wasn't getting enough power from a single usb port. Not sure why my powered usb hub didn't work - guess it's just broken .
Anyway - hope this helps someone else - I know how frustrating I found this whole affair. Thanks for pointing me back in the right direction MistahBungle - saved a lot of heartache!
No probs. Glad you got it working
This is what happened. I want to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1n from 3.2 into 4.0 . I try to root and somehow I do some stupid error.
The bootloader screen become rolling. I found the solution from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555984 and it runs perfectly. my bootloader become normal.
But another problem come out after that. my PC can't detect my samsung through USB. any guide for this problem??

noob here.
Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7510 Wifi
I have a similar problem to the above.
When I connect using the usb lead to the pc, nothing happens. I have reinstalled the drivers (both with and without Kies 2) and upon connecting the usb it acknowledges a connection and goes through some steps and proclaims the device is installed and ready to use. Except it's not. It doesn't show up in My Computer or when I remove and re-connect the usb, there is nothing - the same as before I resinstalled the drivers. Kies cannot find it either.
My issue is further matched by the above issue as I also followed the same guide as above. I previously tried to root the device several times and each time the recovery screen was doing the rolling / flicker thing. So I returned to stock. But inevitably I would get infuriated by all the things I couldn't do.
So when I found the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555984 that further linked to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27830023&postcount=41 I was thrilled because I could finally read the Recovery screen.
So I proceeded to root the device as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971. This was working fine with one exception. Which was that after the screen went into sleep mode and I pressed the power button to wake it up, the tablet was in a variant of the rolling / flicker screen. This happened every time. I repeated the rooting process making sure to wipe data / cache / dalvik. But it remained.
So I became adventurous and decided to flash an experimental CM9 sourced from droidbasement.
And that is where I am now. Unable to enter sleep mode and unable to connect to the pc to return to stock or try different roms.
Any suggestions or help welcome.
perhaps I should have opened a new thread but wasn't sure. please advise if so.
I used a different usb port and the pc could find it.
Now back on stock.

It all started when i decided that I want to return the phone to a full stock condition, as I have just bought it (not rooted, hacked etc.)
Checking a few videos on youtube I got the Idea and recommended files youtube(dot)com / watch?v=bz9gw-ZRbY4

I have tried downloading drivers and changing USB ports + the cable is brand new. When ever the mobile device isn't in download mode it is recognized and I am able to transfer and review files that are on my phone.
So here I'm looking for help at you guys. How do I fix this issue and do I have the right video to follow?
Please, keep in mind I'm a Novice (I don't understand many terms and abbreviations).

So as you said I checked the thread it was not new to me. I have the drivers already, but I just installed them again and still there is no connection in download mode. As I said, if the device is not in download mode I can do what ever I want, but once it enters the download mode ... poof (like there is nothing connected to the PC). I had all the others steps completed too, but yet it doesn't work. When I change the USB port windows says "Failed to install" - Gadget Serial.
I had Kies air connected once and in my PC processes there is no Kies of any kind. Even before I enter the download mode I used App Killer to shut down all apps at least for a moment.
Right now My phone is in download mode and this is the status:
ODIN MODE
Product name: GT-i9100
Custom binary download: YES (1 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
And this is its state every time when it's in download mode.
I had a similar problem but when i wanted to flash it said failed to install or something like that in odin, but then i just changed my USB port to other one and it worked, so i think that the USB i was using was getting impulses of electrisity and turned of at a time so the odin couldn't connect to a phone so he just gave an error (correct me if im wrong).
So for your problem i think you should delete the previous drivers you installed and every driver you installed for your phone and don't delete anything else just your phone drivers. Here: Uninstall Guide
or Here:Uninstall Guide
After the uninstall reboot your PC and install drivers from here, and look for your bit version of your windows (32bit, 64bit) Drivers For windows
And the reboot again, then try and report back here.
Hope it helps!

Thank you for your help, but I just realised that I am not running Kies on my PC. I installed Kies and here we go! The phone was recognized in download mode
Hi,
About two weeks ago I updated my Samsung Galaxy S II to the latest nightly build of Cyanogenmod (through the updates part of the phone). Unfortunately I do not remember the build number of the nightly I updated to - but it must have been near 2014/04/07 (7th april 2014). It made quite a few things not work (It still worked as a phone), so I decided to downgrade to the latest stable build. (Again usint the updater built into the phone)
Now when I turn on my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S II screen comes up. Then it changes to the Cyanogenmod rotating circles boot animation, and stays on that boot animation.
I cannot access recovery mode.
I could not access download mode - but I got a jig and now I can. However when i connect my device in download mode to odin 3 v1.83 to flash it to stock the following error message appears: "USB Device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and Windows dows not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
I installed the samsung drivers from kies, then uninstalled kies but not the drivers. I disabled my antivirus.I do NOT have the android SDK installed.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix my phone?
Summary:
I rooted the device and installed cm 10.1 a while ago - my custom recovery was CWM
I got a notification that a nightly update was available
I updated to the nightly using the updater built into the phone. That was my only update since i installed cm 10.1. (Nightly was from about 7th April 2014 - not exacty sure)
It worked fine as a phone, but some functions didnt work.
I went back into the built-in updater and chose to DOWNgrade to the latest stable version.
When I turn on the phone now the Samsung Galaxy S II screens appears. Then the cm rotating boot animation appears.
The cm boot animation doesnt stop and the phone doesnt turn on
If I try to enter recovery or download mode using the buttons, it goes to the Galaxy S II screen then the cyanogen boot screen - same as if I wasnt pressing buttons
I bought a Jig which I can use to access download mode.
I have the drivers installed on my computer however I still get an error when trying to connect my phone in download mode to ODIN, which prevents me from flashing stock or recovery.
My other phone works fine when connecting to odin on the same computer
Any help in fixing this is appreciated. cheers
Your only option in this situation is Hopper 8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General. Try everything in that thread as many times as you need to in order to get a successful flash.
One thing stands out in what you've said though...
The errors about USB malfunctions/etc may also mean the USB board/port on the phone is on the way out. If you spend a few days trying the stuff in Hopper's thread & still can't get a successful flash (BTW, this is the only way you're fixing it, there isn't anything not in that thread which can be suggested in these situations), I'd replace the USB board/port. KeithRoss39 has a guide in General (not stickied; search for 'replace USB charger board' or do an advanced search on his username) which will enable you to do this yourself quickly/easily/cheaply (<US$15). The boards don't normally die completely, and often only exhibit a few faults while otherwise working OK. What you've described (not being able to get a successful flash, connection errors/problems) may well be the board malfunctioning.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try out the odin troubleshooting thread and replace my micro USB connector part if that doesn't work.
I'd be tempted to do things the other way around......if your port IS faulty, and it fails during an Odin flash, it is likely to kill your phone permanently. As @MistahBungle says, the part is cheap and easy to fit.....certainly cheaper than a new motherboard which will be your only alternative if the port fails during the flash
