I used my flash for the first time today I believe since I've had the phone on day one. Seems that there is some lag when using flash? Pictures take about 4 seconds to snap? This normal? Without flash they're much quicker. Thank you

I took a picture with flash on. From the time I tap the shutter icon to flash turning on with focusing and taking the picture, it takes around 3-4 seconds to snap a picture. This is normal as the flash has to be turned on and for the camera to focus. Without flash, it should always be quicker since there isn't a need for the flash, so the camera just focuses and snaps the picture.

Thanks for replying. It just seemed slow to me
Just got a Mate 10 Pro. In general the camera seems really good.
One thing which seems odd is that for me when I put the flash in auto mode, the flash only seems to come on when it's pretty much pitch black.
I'm on the UK BLA-L09 model on a 8.0.0.115 firmware.
Pictures with the flash when I force the flash on in dark places like this are way better.
Seems the auto flash poss isn't working properly.
Seems the same after restart and also using 3rd party camera apps as well.
Anyone else seeing this?
This is the Leica way. You'll find auto mode also favours brighter colours and some film grain. I like the look myself although it can be annoying for certain pics. There have been a few firmware updates since .115 which may have adjusted it.
Thanks for the response Arthur,
I took two pics in same environment which was very dark.
The one which didn’t use the flash in Auto flash mode seems to be trying to take at 0.25 Sec @ ISO 1230 F1.6
Picture looks terrible and the camera tells me "Sharpening the photo. Please Steady the device”
Using the manual flash then resulted in a picture using settings of 1/50th Sec @ ISO 160 F1.6
Now I don't mind a bit of grain and higher ISO to get a good picture, but to me asking us to manage with no flash when selecting 1/4 Second exposure time doesn't seem right does it?
Measuring light with one of those sensor apps – Androsensor (which I know may not be accurate) , it Seems that the camera flash doesn’t come on until something like 4-5 Lux, when below 30 Lux would be where I’d consider normally triggering the flash.
Other phone cameras also trigger fine in these conditions.
Worse than I thought actually, just re-measured and the flash only comes on in auto mode when the light level is pretty much at 0 Lux. Still not using the flash at 0.5 Lux.
Could be a faulty cameramodule I guess.

Coming from S7E and bit disappointed with camera. Doing a lots of pictures of my kid and burst mode when you hold white button/volume is only chance to get at least few pics in focus. Only problem is that with new S9+ burst mode kicks in about 500ms later than it started on S7E.
So you see kid doing something interesting, point camera and hold shutter button. And wait. It takes about 1s or even more to start taking pictures and while you wait, your camera is doing nothing. On S7E burst started almost immediately, was bout 250-500ms max. Kinda disappointed with this upgrade...
Tried to find some settings for this, but there is only option to enable feature, nothing else.
UPDATE: Friend of mine checked S8 and A8, both starts burst shot almost immediately, so it is probably something new with S9+?
This is just a guess, but it could have to do with the shutter opening/closing for the amount of light in the photo prior to shooting?
Seems quite unlikely to me, because you can take regular image almost immediately...
It's likely the camera software needs optimising and tweaking. Are you on the latest firmware? I'm not, so wouldn't know if that changes anything but likely a fix will be on its way

Of course, was first I tried, though still have only G965FXXU1ARB3 available and seen newer G965FXXU1ARC5 floating around, but not yet for my carrier. Hppefully it will fix this...
So updated to G965FXXU1ARC5 and delay before burst is still there :-/
Another update and still start of burst sequence is way too slow. Any tips how to make it start faster?

I think the reason may be that the device waits to see if it was a single shot or a long press, since a single click on volume button is supposed to just click a photo, and a long press is to take a burst
Just checked mine, and while there is a slight lag, it's nowhere near a full second.

Checking your signature, are you testing it on S7E or S9+? Because I had S7E before and it started much faster, for sure under half second. I have problem with S9+ and checked S8+ and its fine similar like S7E, only new S9+ is affected...
S9+. Guess I need to update my sig!
So guys... I found something odd on my Mate 10 Pro... I bought it on Amazon and received it on the 22nd of October and of course I've been using it since to take a lot of pictures with its magnificent camera... Now, we all know that it can take some great pictures with the night mode even when handheld, with those magical 4 seconds of processing...
The thing is, when I took a picture in very low light with the phone stabilized (like against a window from my house) it would actually take more seconds to shoot the picture if needed to get an even more incredible result than when handheld. Once I took a picture where it took 51 (!!!!) seconds to shoot it but the result was amazing, a lot more light than I could even see with my own eyes...
Now to the problem... A few days ago I tried to show this amazing capabilities to my brother by putting the phone on a table and shooting the ground (it should automatically detect it was stabilized and do a longer exposure photo as it did before...) and it only took a 6 second picture... since then it has never done the longer exposure thing anymore!!
I didn't know what could've happened for it to get this way... and then I remembered I did a firmware update (to version 156) a few days before I tried to show it to my brother... and my question is:
HAS HUAWEI somehow NERFED the night mode ?!? (Possibly to make it look that much worse than the Mate 20/Pro)
Look at this comparison I made using the same settings (Auto ISO and "Auto Seconds" on Night Mode):
Before it took this picture when the phone was against my rooms window looking outside (I remember it would detect the phone was stable and would take a longer exposure to take advantage of being still to capture more details):

Now, this is the result in the same conditions (against the glass, Auto, etc etc)... Now it only ALWAYS goes to a maximum of 6 seconds of exposure time EVEN perfectly still like on a tripod!
Another comparison of a mat on my living room (taken with only the light emmited from the TV being turned on)
Before (was a crazy long exposure):
After (only goes to 6 seconds... WTF)
I'm sharing this as more people may have been affected without maybe even knowing!!
BTW:
My camera APP version is: 8.0.0.302
Firmware: BLA-L29 8.0.0.156(C432)

Ill try tonite
This was what I was worried about when they reduced the exposure time. I wish they kept the old night mode as a second option for times we have a tripod.
Yeah, same here. Only short, blurry, useless night mode. Enjoy Huawei. First the custom ROMs, now this. To be fair, nothing surprises me anymore after the bootloader lock...
Nevermind I am dumb. Swipe up from bottom, and you can adjust the time by hand. Actually went into HiCare and saw it mention this.

But that night mode isn't just a long exposure it does many AI thing to make image better however you can adjust nightshot mode's ISO and exposure

The old night mode is still there, at least on .150 update. You just need to manually specify that you want longer exposure.
I've got a 5 sec night mode picture from 30.10, I updated to .157 on 1.11, so I'll do a comparison when I have the time. It could be a bug or an intentional worsening of the mode to favor the new Mate 20 Pro. I guess will see...
I noticed it.The night mode now requires a tripod
It works fine for me on emui9 beta.... sometimes it does not detect that it is stable .... i guess it would be better to add a manual switch.
I fix this by grabing my phone, moving it for a second then i put it back in place... maybe the little movement from pressing the shutter button is enough for the phone to think its handheld.
They did not remove the tripod mode, i think its just a little too sensitive

It's not the same thing. Photos taken with both settings in Auto have a different result than when using manual settings...

I tested mine in the exact same conditions as when it worked... Now it always only goes to a max of 6 seconds resulting in a very crappy photo when compared to the "old" results... But anyway, I think it may be a bug as a guy in another forum said he is on the same firmware as me with the same Camera App version and his phone still does a longer exposure on Super Nigh mode with both settings in Auto when doing it with the phone stable on a table shooting a mat or the ground...
Mine just seems to be acting crazy...

It thought the same as you did. You can still achieve it through the pro mode though.
I've just made a factory reset and it still doesn't work! I may have to return it to Amazon...
What is not working?!? Everything works like a charm.

My supernight mode got bugged somehow, just as I explained on the first post.
I am with .150 update - the maximum exposure is 32 seconds. Don't know where this super night mode was , but I am sure it is something on your end. No changes made by Huawei.

Read my first post properly and you'll understand. Anyways, if my phone is flawed I'll just return it on Amazon.FR
Already read it, no drama. There are TWO totally independent modes and even Huawei wont accept or understand your claim. Use them accordingly. As mentioned the maximum exposure on Night mode with tripod is 32 seconds.

No, you're wrong. On manual mode it is a maximum of 32 but when in auto mode if on a tripod or stabilized in an equivalent way it will go more than those 32 seconds. Mine went to 51 seconds many times before it stopped working properly.
Will test it now and will let you know.
I got this phone today, and am having a weird issue with the camera. I take a picture, go to review it by tapping the image when it pops up at the bottom right, but I can only view it for a few seconds before it automatically takes me back to the camera. This happens every time, and I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work?
I bought the phone a few days ago too and it doesn't happen to me. Couldn't find any setting that may be causing it either, sorry
