Hi Guys,
Can anyone guide how to enable 4G VoLTE support on Honor 5x ?
I am using Indian version KIW-L22
Currently in India, Reliance Jio is the only operator with 4G VoLTE support. Though not commercially launched yet, but Reliance Jio services are available to it's employees.
As I can see Snapdragon 615 already supports HD Voice over 3G and VoLTE
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/615
I found somewhere that using the code *#*#4636#*#* on dialer app will bring up a menu to enable VoLTE provisioned flag. However that doesn't work on Honor 5x.
I am sure since we have the hardware support for VoLTE, getting this thing enabled over the software should not be impossible.
Anyone any ideas please help!
Spoke to Honor India chat support today...
They blatantly said VoLTE support won't be available on this handset.
Strange, hardware supports but they won't give a small software path or update to enable this.
Looks like only hope is this community, and may be some custom ROM.

Not prudent of Huawei India to give such a response, when competition (aka. Redmi Note 3) has this out of the box! currently waiting for the device to get a decent AOSP ROM, would purchase one then

There are even many sub 10K (INR) phones which offers VoLTE support.
Was really hoping that Honor India would provide some support, as it is a matter of simple software patch / update.
But alas
BTW just to confirm, I am able to use the 4G data using Reliance Jio SIM, but not the voice call, which needs VoLTE support.
I am using Reliance Jio 4G SIM...
Just today got hold of Jio Join app, which allows me to make call from my Honor 5x.
Note: On Reliance Jio only supports 4g VoLTE handsets. However, they have come up with an app called Jio Join which allows users with non VoLTE 4G handsets can still make calls. It uses 4G data to route the call to Jio network. Call quality is nice.
Still being hopeful if Honor gives native support for VoLTE on the handset with some software patch.
There maybe some technical issues with placing a call on a 4G VoLTE network as it needs better codecs which probably need more power so this feature is mostly reserved to high range phones and only with some phone operators.
Click to expand...

Not sure about the codecs but it's definitely not that VoLTE is restricted only to high end phones. In India we have VoLTE enabled android phones starting from as low as $75.
In France, only one operator allows Voice over LTE and only for a few phone such as latest Samsung S6 and probably S7 now and Apple iPhone 6 et 6+

That's true.. There are very few operators around the globe which have VoLTE feature, because it is relatively new technology which comes with 4G. Without VoLTE when you make a call over 4G network you voice call actually gets over 3G or 2G network (but remember you operator should also have a 3G or 2G network for that).
So even though some one could supply a custom ROM with this feature integrated that doesn't mean you could use it if the phone operator doesn't allow you to use it on his network. I guess 4G VoLTE is mostly experimental for now.

4G VoLTE feature though less available but is not an experimental feature. It's very much supported both by Android and common SoCs like Snapdragon 615. It's true that for True HD call experience 3 entities needs to be VoLTE enabled i) The caller ii) The Network iii) The receiver. In my case all 3 are possible since the network is VoLTE enabled.
Myself I'm not sure how 4G VoLTE could be relevant as it uses a large part of you data plan which cost you more than a GSM call...
In France we mostly have unlimited GSM calls for the same price when data plan are mostly limited in Megabyte or Gigabyte...

The network I am on (Reliance Jio) is a only 4G Network which means only way to make a call is over VoLTE, as explained before. It's a IP Based Packet switched network and not a Circuit Switched network like traditional 2G / 3G.
About technical limitations, we have the same problem when we use our 4G/LTE phone's modem. If you place a phone call when sharing data, the phone's modem switches to 3G and back to 4G/LTE when the call ends...
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
This is not a technical limitation, it's simply because your operator has chosen not to implement VoLTE, which means you can use 4G network only for the data, for voice calls you are actually using the operator's existing 3G / 2G network. Thus this 3G/4G switching happens for you.
That just mean you were allowed to experiment this feature on Reliance Jio network and you don't need specific patches...
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Not sure I should rightly call it patch or not.. But yes a software update it is. The SoC of Honor 5x supports VoLTE, Android Lollipop supports VoLTE, I don't see a reason why Huawei should not allow it.
At present time, you should probably be a very few users to use 4G VoLTE and imagine millions or billions of users placing calls on 4G VoLTE at the same time...

Yes lucky to be an early tester of a technology that's gonna drive the future... IP Based network it is
So finally Jio is here, but do we have any option to enable VoLTE on Honor 5x
May be by using any custom rom or whatsoever?

Anyone of please upload the downloaded zip to cm thread for bademon . He maybe could add support with the help of that file by analysing whats inside that file
I just updated.
Video is not supported..there is no option to activate it. If someone is calling from jio to ur no., at that type if they are sending video request, call hangs for long time after disconnection also...it is a Very serious bug. Restart is only way option to remove hanged call. Only call hangs..means u cannot call anyone.

I really don't see the reason to have VoLTE enable on our device: this is probably cause I never tried it out, cause I didn't have a reason to do that: the calling quality is already good.
So, my question is for who are using this feature: does it really improve the quality? Is the improvement sensible or is only a "placebo effect"?
Someday I'll surely try it, and I want to arrive to that moment prepared and without fake hopes
I think u are not an Indian.
Redmi note 3 snapdragon version was specially designed for Indian market,the reason why Indians in most of custom ROM want volte is because of Reliance Jio which is a new and the fastest growing telecom company in the world.
The company provides us free 1 GB 4g internet everyday,free voice calls and video calls and subscription to its many entertainment apps.
The problem we face is that the sim works on only volte enabled 4g phones so if volte is not working in ROM we have to download an app which enables us to make calls on non volte supported 4g phones which we don't like.
Plus with volte we get full HD voice which is impressive.
So volte is very important for Indians.
Press the thanks button if u are satisfied.

Hey everyone! I just got my mate 10 pro, and i love it! However, no matter how much i love it, i can't deal with no wifi calling and volte on t-mobile. I need these as signal in my home is pretty horrible, and the wifi is what makes it better. I am currently on BLA-L29 8.0.0.119(C636). Any ideas how to get these working?
I'm also interested in this. Will we have to root and change some system files?
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
From what I've seen, I don't think there is anyway to get this until they release a U.S. Unnlocked firmware, and even then we might not have wi-fi calling. Hopefully soon we'll have it, because I love the phone, but I can't use it without having at least VoLTE and Wi-fi Calling

Hi. I'm on ALP-8.0.0.128(C636) (not the pro version) and as far as I can tell there is no Wi-Fi calling or VoLTE. I do not see in settings a way in enable these features. When I make a call, phone goes from LTE (4G+) to 3G or H. I find H is barely tolerable when calling and browsing. I read there is an app that forces 4G but it apparently does not work on Mate 10. Presumably rebranding to the version sold in US should work. Depends on Tmobile. @duraaraa may be able to take these features from the Mate 10 pro firmware that will be sold in US and adopt them to other firmware. I'm not sure of progress there. But I would certainly pay to add features like VoLTE and so forth. Other than missing these features phone is, for my use, great.

Yes. I agree. Probably best that could be done is a patch or modification of Mate 10 firmware to enable VoLTE. At this point I'm not counting on it. But one can always dream!

Th Chinese version does include the confugurations of certain EU operators but not all. When I use it in the UK, it does not work on O2 or Three but the configuration files look like Huawei is enabling VoLTE on EE but I have no EE pay monthly SIM to test. The VoLTE of the Chinese version works in Hong Kong as well.
If you're rooted, you might be able to modify build.prop to enable VoLTE. The firmware supports it AFAIK, so it's probably just a matter of letting it know that it has permission to use it.
Try adding the following lines:
Code:
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1
persist.radio.rat_on=combine
persist.radio.data_ltd_sys_ind=1
persist.radio.data_con_rprt=1
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=1

but there is no guarantee that the VoLTE stack will work for that carrier and it may not work.
One example is the mate 9, Huawei pushed an update for EMUI 5.0 enabling VoLTE in Hong Kong, but before that in mainland China only. It worked at that time but when updated to EMUI 8.0, the VoLTE stopped working in Hong Kong even if the VoLTE switch was still there, but working on mate 10. I am refering to Chinese version here.
There's a new update out for ALP-L29 C636. It looks interesting, but my phone has not been approved for update yet. Looking forward to it.

I have the USA unlocked U1 variant. No I didn't have to flash T-Mobile firmware in order for it to work. T-Mobile isn't like other carriers, wifi calling works out of the box as long as software supports it, they don't block it from non-branded phones. Even my OnePlus phones wifi calling works on T-Mobile.

another question. this will be out of topic. but have you tried recording video with loud band or loud music? If you did. How is the recording sound Quality? one of the Reasons that I wanted to replace my Note 8 is. when i record a video with my band even with an external Mic. it seems to compress the sound. so it will be like lower volume then, it will be normal volume then lower volume. TIA.
WiFi calling hardware missing on unlocked S9?
I am being told by Samsung that the hardware to make WiFi calling is missing on the unlocked phones. This sounds odd. Can anyone on this forum confirm?

The unlocked version will not have the option to turn on Wi-Fi calling as the hardware which supports the feature is not available in Unlocked version.
This has been talked about in length in other threads.
1. Samsung support knows nothing, if it isn't on their script they will give you any answers that kinda could make sense, not necessarily facts. If you ask them again you will get a different answer.
2. Yes the unlocked variant had WiFi calling, I use WiFi calling on T-Mobile.

@bkeaver, this gives me hope!
A few follow-ups:
- is the U1 variant you buy directly from Samsung or the one from Best Buy (or some place else?)
- did you have to do anything to enable WiFi calling? Where is that setting in your screenshot, Settigs or the phone app?
- are you on Tmobile USA?
Thank you so much!

U1 is the carrier unlocked variant purchased from Samsung directly. Not sure what the variant is that Best buy sells. Could be the same model for all I know. WiFi calling is on by default and off the top of my head I don't remember which menu it's off of. Give me a few and I'll fire it up and get you a location of it.

Yes, T-Mobile (and I guess it's MVNOs) have made unlocked firmware work wonderfully. I'd never use carrier firmware with them.
WiFi calling on S9
On the third try, I think I figured out the WiFi calling issue on unlocked devices (Galaxy S9). The key is to have the T-Mobile SIM card in the device before starting the setup for the first time. Doing this, the first popup I got said that the device will be updated with carrier specific settings. Then i went through the setup, and WiFi calling was there in the Phone app -> settings.
On another device I went through the setup first and then popped in the Tmobile sim, and the same window about carrier settings never presented itself.

Hi all,
I checked on my pixel 3 (beta 2) and I can active sim 2 (e-sim). But I'm not sure that anyone can use 2 sims in actual. (1 sim for calling and 1 sim for data connection it will be nice)
As I knew it will depend on carrier and country (ex : in VN e-sim only support for Iphone). So anyone's using DSDS please give us feed back about this ?

But Airtel , you can get very easily..if you already having Airtel Sim , just follow as mentioned below link.
Or if you're going but Airtel, don't tell anything about eSIM to showroom staff, just buy a physical sim and active the Sim. Once activated physical sim, follow the same instructions in the URL

It's nice when know that you can do it.
So that mean at the carrier shop they also didn't know the E-sim support for Pixel3 and you did it by yourself ?
And one more question that you add e-sim by scan QR code ? (same way with iphone)

And does google pixel has store in Indian ? or your phone bought old phone from another country ?
Because in Vietnam don't have google store yet so i'm afraid we cannot add the E-sim

Based on India. Google partner with Flipkart to sell the pixel . It's official e-commerce in India. We will get full support from Google

Thanks for your information.
So that mean my Px3 phone maybe cannot support for E-sim in Vietnam
If your OEM switch for bootloader unlock is not grayed out you can use the embedded sim or eSim. If it's grayed out then you can't. Naturally, it depends on your carrier if they support it or not. Even with a Google version Verizon does not support eSim activation for some unknown reason. But Sprint and Google Fi will work I believe. Ask your carrier if they support eSim activation. If they don't know what you're talking about then they probably don't. Also remember that you can only have one network active at a time. Until Android Q comes out with true DSDS (not the beta yet, it's too risky) you will have to choose which is active.
I'm not sure what the IMEIs of devices in Vietnam and India are but here in the US if they begin with a 99 then you can use the eSim. If they start with a 35 you cannot.

Yeah I see now. Wait until Q drops and we can have true DSDS like the iPhones do currently. That will be really nice.

Actually both esim & physical sim are active right now. But when you are on a call in esim then you dont get calls in physical sim & vice versa. i think thats pretty normal.
So Google released the much awaited December update with more than 100 fixes and I have tested some of the newest fixes in and out. Some users now report signal loss and connectivity issues with the December Update, specifically users from Europe and in none supported countries where Pixel 6 is not offered officially, but not only - also official countries users are complaining.
The is a reddit thread where vachezoub suggested a very easy fix for connectivity issues and signal loss and it seems it`s working already for several users! So let`s check this FIX and let`s apply it in this video!

Thanks for the feedback man!
If not a secret, where are you from?
Asking cause I am from Bulgaria, Europe, where the Pixel 6 is not sold officially hence no profiles from the carriers, and it`s a mess - like I said in my video - no 5G (which I can live w/o) but no VoLTE and VoWifi - for the VoLTE I am very much dependent on it as I do a lot of voice calls from mobile while browsing using data and with VoLTE it`s a pleasure and now w/o and the Pixel 6 I am using H+ and it`s... slow
It`s definitely better for myself as well!

Yep, I am following the other topic - I would probably root just to get the VoLTE, dont care so much for 5G... but it`s very disappointing - and it was not like that with Pixel 4 and etc.
One of my friends is in NL - where Google DO have a SHOP - but they DONT sell the Pixel there ... so same story
Hi everyone, I had the same issue with my Pixel 6 Pro and tried everything that you guys mentioned but nothing really worked.
But in another thread I read that it was possible to install the android 12L and android 13 beta modem.img in the public android 12, after that I proceed to install it and it fixed my issue at all, finally I have my P6P just the way it should be without signal dropping when calling and everything working just fine, network speed increased too.
I have these config:
-Android 12 June update.
-Unlocked bootloader.
-Rooted with magisk 25.1
-Installed android 13 beta modem.img vía fastboot.
I leave the modem files, hope it helps you.

Why are there two modem.img files? When I unzip the Android 13 Beta 3.2 file for the P6P, I only see one modem file.

Looks like they are the same file with 2 different versions/dates. I was going to flash the modem file from Android 13 Beta 3.2
Edit: I installed the modem file on my P6P from A13 beta 3.2 and still have connectivity problems with Verizon.
Does anyone else still has signal issues and call fails even on newest update and beta carrier services. Every call I have to recall atleast twice for stable signal.

I have the same issue on daily basis. I have at least 30 calls per day and every 2nd or 3rd call has to be repeated. I tried to compare my P6 pro with midranger phones with the same network carrier (I used network cell info lite app) and their signal is so much better (per example - 75 dBm, while p6 pro has -90 or above -100 score). I use it in dual sim mode, and there's no difference between eSim and classic physical SIM in signal strength. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS. I SEE THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM SINCE DECEMBER 2021, AND I'M NOT AN OPTIMIST THAT GOOGLE WILL RESOLVE THIS (I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY DIDN'T DO THAT FOR ALMOST A YEAR). I live in Serbia, where pixels are not in the official carrier sale.

Did you try to use only 2G to one of your two SIMs? Enter to *#*#4636#*#* and lock the one sim to 2G.
If you have unsupported carriers in your phone, is very common. Try the trick above it might help.

I would definitely root simply to gain the VoLTE; I don't care as much about 5G. However, it is quite upsetting because it wasn't like that with the Pixel 4 and other devices. One of my friends lives in the Netherlands, where Google does have a store, but the Pixel is not available there.

As I know pixel 4 doesn't have 5G and there wasn't 5G antennas so as to abolish the 3G ones, as happeining right now.
The users of supported countries have less related issues. Here is the map till now.

I did that. Thank you! It increased the signal strength on the other SIM by 30%. That solved one problem, now I have one more left, because my main SIM (eSIM) is still bad with signal and I can't set it to 2G because I have constant need to be online via LTE network. The phone store don't accept the return of the device through the warranty because when I took the phone to the city center where the shop is located, it catches an excellent network signal, and they say everything's fine, but as soon as you go outside the center (even just two blocks) everything is much worse. At one web page, I saw a comment where a man says that this is a problem of 30% of total users of P6 pro, but I didn't find any other posts about specific product series which has that problem.

This sounds your carrier's problem. In general, pixels have strong signal comparing to other expensive phones. Apart from the fact that they have interruptions etc.
So, the strength might come from the bad covering from your carrier.
The last suggestion that I can give to you is to swap the eSIM to SIM.

Thank you. I will try to put SIM from another carrier to check if that works. But before I switched my physical SIM to 2G, the signal from that SIM and eSIM were the same (bad). And both of them are from the same carrier at this moment.

Try the sim in another dual phone.
Try another carrier in your phone.
Try a factory reset after the tonight's update.
