Remix OS not booting? - Remix OS for PC

Hey! Somebody help me..
I installed the beta 1 of remix OS(64-bit) in one of my PC's partitions (Primary,FAT32) and I booted it(in Legacy).
It did all the writing speed test ( I think almost everything was over), but after that it stopped in a black screen which is completely blank with only a cursor (_) on the leftmost corner
I thought that its just normal so I waited for almost 45 mins but nothing happened .
Tell me what to do now :crying:
I tried booting once again but the same thing happened. This even happened when I was booting it through USB.

On boot menu enter options by TAB, then E key and remove/delete quiet and hit enter to carry on booting to give you a reading of what's going on

i think u using EasyBCD 2.3 to dual boot Remix, if so :
Download the lastest iso on the official Remix website.
you need to add the iso to its Entry BUT not the normal iso ( if you want it rooted ) you must edit the iso EasyBCD pointing to. using Ultraiso delete initrd and system and drag on the fixed initrd and rooted system to it and save.
now you end up with an edited iso .
Extract its contents to the partition
also copy the edited iso to the partition (make sure it has no space on its name)
Go back to EasyBCD and add new entry and point it to the edited iso.
NOTE: for me 32 bit needs Fat32 partition and 64 bit NTFS
Usb booting not working
all the needed files here:

In windows find the remixos folder, open menu.lst file in notepad, add nouveau.modeset=0 i915.modeset=1 to the end of kernel(forces remix to use integrated graphics).

Surface 3 (Non Pro) Issues

Hi, after following the instructions from the remix website and downloading the efi version not the legacy version, and trying multiple options mentioned throughout the google group for remixOS I can't seem to get it to boot, it gets to "detecting android x86... found on /dev/mmdsomething (i've put it onto a 32gb fat32 partition on the hard drive) then goes blank but using the same files and putting them onto my 32gb microsd card (formatted as fat with GPT as per the instructions here: http://androidnews.co.in/2016/01/16/how-to-install-remix-os-on-mac-resident-mode-working/) i can get it to boot to guest mode on my mac (resident mode just hangs at the remixes splash screen)
how can i get it to boot onto my surface 3 and how can i get resident mode to work?

Resident mode hangs on usb drives with less than 30 MB/s of read and write speed. I have noticed that speed of atleast 45-50MB/s is needed for it to work in resident mode. If you have it, then it will work, else not so much.

thanks i released that after putting remix onto my internal hdd on my mac, but i still can't get it to load on my surface 3
i can't get this to work on my surface 3 either. i have a fast usb3 stick, but encounter the same blank screen.
I installed RemixOS on my hard drive (Surface 3 Not Pro) using steps in https://www.reddit.com/r/RemixOS/comments/409w1o/remixos_efi_install_assumes_you_already_have/
and enabled following kernel boot parameters...
debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=efi,keep xforcevesa nomodeset
It reboots after these messages:
Detecting Android-x86... found at /dev/mmcblk0p#
.

.
Followed by long list of messages for a minute or so
.
.
.
Detecting Android-x86... found at /dev/mmcblk0p#

[##.######]blk_update_request: I/O error, dev loop0, sector ######
[##.######]init: cannot execute ('/system/bin/app_process64'): I/O error
At one stage (dont remember the kernel parameters) I got the RemixOS boot logo with a blinking cursor... and nothing happened after that... got stuck there and had to hard reboot.
RemixOS boots up but no touch screen support. Screen sometimes flickering. Not really usable at this moment
Used below kernel parameters to boot both resident/guest mode

Has anybody got this to work????

Not yet. We Will need somebody to patch a kernel for remix based off 4.8 Linux kernel for it to have touch support for our device. Or wait till Jide merges the 4.8 kernel source into remix ...
Wish it would happen soon !
Hello to everyone! I had the same problem and Linux Kernel 4.8 has Surface 3 drivers, so we have to wait until Remix OS will use this Kernel. Please, join to Telegram Surface 3 group:

any news? how well does remix os work on surface 3 non pro?
Has anyone had any luck getting the touchscreen to work on the Surface 3 with Remix OS 3.0 yet? Also that telegram link is expired

I booted from my flashdrive, now I get a linux prompt

Write speeds are higher than 20MB/s. I have a UEFI BIOS. I get the same thing on both Resilient mode and Guest mode. I selected Resilient mode on first launch and the system went through the first launch steps.
When you get to the boot choice of RemixOS remove 'quiet' from the line when TAB and then 'e' for editing it, to show what's going on @ boot time.
most time we solve this by deleting recreating data.img
I hope that helps you

I dont know how to do that. I cant seem to be able to open the ISO that was in the zip file I downloaded. However, I formatted my flashdrive and used the included tool to reinstall Remix OS. It didnt help.
on the edit line you removed 'quiet' from, put 'DEBUG=1' or just put the '1' on the DEBUG= if it's showing ? I forget if it is but it will go through like before but this time will stop twice where you have to type 'exit' for it to proceed (twice-I repeat!) maybe that'll help? or @imadlatch is more than likely correct?

Thank you, It definitely did help. However the resolution is all wonky now. I have a 1080p screen. The images are all grainy and stretched out. Also, i can see the linux prompt blinking in the background. Anything I type on the keyboard will be entered there. Hence, if i type "reboot" and hit enter, the system will reboot.
I also tried the workarounds in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/RemixOS/comments/42wylw/any_way_to_run_with_nvidia_gpu/czenutg
But none of them helped either. I get the same issues; the poor resolution and the blinking prompt.

I don't know the blinking error solution , my friend also have that same problem , but there is a easy solution for resolution -
Root remix os , open any rooted browser , go to system folder , then open build.prop , edit the file , just add a line at the end
"ro.sf.lcd_density=150"
Write that line without quote , save build.prop , and change the number between 140 to 210 , see which one looks better on your monitor , have fun exploring remix ☺

How to install it on my HDD ?

Hi, So I've got a notebook that I don't use anymore and I would like to put Remix OS / Phoenix OS on it, but wherever I look I can't find any tutorial about how to get this OS on the internal HDD !
The point is that I don't want to us it on a USB drive, and I don't want a Dual Boot either, I just want to have Remix OS / Phoenix OS as the main and only operating system on that computer.
Anyone has a solution ? Already tried to take the HDD out and use USBMaker to burn the OS directly to the HDD, but USBMaker (and other software such as Unetbootin) won't even show my hdd in the USB list ...
Make usb
Yhan maje a partition on hhd than copy all files fro musb to yout partion. And than boot from partion. And i guess you di t oook either cuz there is plwnty of thread to install in on HDD
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Just copying the files from the USB Drive to the HDD doesn't work, I get a boot error when I try to boot from the HDD by doing so...
So I've tried everything I could, but I still can't get those OS to boot from the internal HDD ...
What error do you get... im guessing you dont have ufi system?. Try searching on youtube.. There is plenty of atep by step videos.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
"Boot Error" That's what appears on my screen.
Every videos are showing how to dual boot... My goal is to install this OS on my laptop which has no OS installed yet, the only thing I managed to do is to boot on Phoenix OS with the USB Key, but that's too laggy as my USB ports suck.
Yes I'm on Legacy.
The strange part is that they don't provide a bootable image which actually INSTALL the OS, they only provide an IMAGE of the OS already usable...

Remix OS bottom bar is solid black

Hello,
I have just installed remix os. (dual os though)
Problem is, bottom bar is solid black that means I can not use multitasking. I have to close one app to open another one. I can not also open setting etc.
What is this happening
At the first boot I had this problem too, then system automaticly rebooted and I had that bottom bar now It is again gone. I have really low notebook, has 2gigs of ram and 1.4ghz of cpi even linux freezes time to time. But so far, remix os running like a dream.
Btw, I am using 64bit version if it matters.
thanks in advance

I think I had what you're describing and toggling the autohide fixed it (i think there was a mismatch between the setting value and the right click value).
That being said it might be better to try the 32bit version on your device; it should be easier on resources.
I'll go one farther and say that you should not be running the 64-bit at all on that notebook. You don't have the hardware to properly support it. Upon initial installation you should have seen a pop-up telling you to make sure you are using the 32-bit version based on your hardware.

I had the same problem, I fixed it by adding
ro.remixos.no_wallpaper=true
in build.prop where other ro.remixos options are configured
and also remove the 2 ffmpeg lines to remove blinking issue...
If you cannot open any application plug in any usb, es file explorer will appear then enable root explorer option
and navigate to /system to edit build.prop and finally edit it..

It's within the system.img; within RemixOS it's at /system/build.prop.
But I don't think this is a fix per say - yes it seems to work for some people; but this could be due to some data hangover from a previous version with this line present.
What I would try first is simply clearing data from SystemUI (and Settings) app.

You're dual booting with ubuntu, right?
If so then just mount the system.img and you'll see it righg there.
mkdir rossystem && mount -t ext4 system.img rossystem
or if your using a system folder then it should be just in there.

[SOLUTION][TEMPFIX] Problems with booting Remix OS on a dual graphics card devices

MOST RECENT REMIX VERSION TESTED WITH THE GUIDE: 3.0.206
If you have a PC (laptop, desktop, tablet, hybrid) with a dual graphics card combo (like Intel + NVIDIA, Intel + AMD, AMD + AMD) and experience problems booting Remix OS then this is a potential solution/workaround for you (until it's officially fixed):
IF YOU USED UNOFFICIAL METHODS FOR REMIX INSTALLATION, THESE SHOULD, BUT MIGHT NOT WORK FOR YOU
Try the methods available in the next section if your PC hangs on one of these during the boot sequence:
ANDROID [email protected]_x86_64:/ # (if you have an external display plugged in, disconnect it and try again, if persists, read on)
Remix OS logo (is your hdd / USB stick fast enough?)
“_” in the top left corner (above may also apply, other possibilities are badblocks or badsectors apparent on the hard drive, so check for those if the below guide doesn't help)
Before we begin, you need to know how to edit grub menuentries (NON PERSISTENT - ONE BOOT ONLY):
LEGACY boot - don't apply the exact solutions provided there, just follow the scheme.
UEFI boot - don't apply the exact solutions provided there, just follow the scheme.
Find your scenario and add given parameters to the GRUB menuentry kernel line:
One of your graphics cards is Intel
This applies only to Remix versions 3.0.205 and older.
Code:
EXTMOD=i915
This parameter enforces initiating Intel driver module first - sets Intel card as primary.
NONE of your grapics cards is Intel:
Code:
nomodeset androidboot.swrast=1
"nomodeset" disables "the kernel mode setting" (tells
the kernel to not set the graphic resolution, let X do that instead).
androidboot.swrast=1 enforces software graphics rendering.
All graphics will be handled by the CPU - has drawbacks; lower stability and performance, but will work 99% times - 1% is when your CPU is not supported
If the above allowed you to successfully boot:
Report your problem and solution in the official feedback form here:
Remix OS for PC User Feedback
Now you need to make the change persistent:
For Remix OS installed on hard drive:
LEGACY BOOT:Apply adequate changes to grub.cfg or menu.lst file in your Remix OS installation folder. Editing both files won't hurt
UEFI BOOT: Apply adequate changes to EFI:/boot/grub/grub.cfg file in your ESP (EFI System Partition) - example path Z:/boot/grub/grub.cfg
Instruction on how to access grub.cfg file on Windows
BEWARE, ACCIDENTALLY REMOVING OR MODIFYING SOME FILES FROM ESP PARTITION WILL RENDER SYSTEMS NOT BOOTABLE - WILL REQUIRE RECOVERY TOOLS.
To access ESP, you need to:
start cmd.exe as administrator
Kill Explorer -> Mount the ESP -> Start the Explorer as admin using below commands:
Code:
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
mountvol Z: /s
explorer.exe
If you fail to mount the system partition then it's probably already mounted. Start notepad as administrator then browse My computer and you should find a SYSTEM drive - that's ESP.
Edit & save the EFI:/boot/grub/grub.cfg file
Reboot and test if the changes worked(if you reboot into Windows, the ESP should be inaccessible again - it automatically unmounts upon restart)
For Remix OS installed on a USB stick:
You will need to access USB partition labeled REMIXOSSYS.
Filesystem of this partition is not supported by Windows, so without any 3rd party apps you won't be able to modify the needed files.
You will need to either use a Linux distribution or edit from Remix OS on other device. Be dexterous
LEGACY BOOT:Apply adequate changes to REMIXOSSYS:/SYSLINUX.CFG
UEFI BOOT: Apply adequate changes to REMIXOSSYS:/boot/grub/grub.cfg
Add a post with your results after using the guide and hit Thanks it it worked for you List your device brand and model & GPUs models + Remix OS version
Special thanks and credits go to @masaykh for helping me make this guide and pointing out some mistakes.
Disclaimer:
Currently parameter X.modeset=0/1 does NOT work, because of recent changes made to driver modules handling.
This thread and discussed problem is known to Remix OS dev team and they are working on it. Let's hope that one of the future updates fixes it.

Guide was written in desktop mode, if it looks bad in Tapatalk then blame the app
Does this apply to laptops as well? I don't have an option to disable the dGPU on my Asus ROG laptop. The nouveau and nomodeset commands and it still hangs on the Android root part after it loads the kernel. Help!
Have you tried with step 4. (androidboot.swrast=1) ?
Laptops are PCs too I'll edit OP to prevent confusion.
Also please don't quote the OP (opening post). Use "@"username instead - lots of space saves for better reading and scrolling experience.

Just wondering... can you use, both Gpu's?
Aka.. dualscreen or stretched desktop option
Cheers
@mitchell4you
Currently Remix OS allows only mirrored external display. This kind of feature is handled by the single GPU only, but that's how it works for all devices.
Some devices with dual gpu can boot without changing anything like in this guide, but that applies only to Lollipop Remix.

@Vioner Thank you for your awesome guide. I finally boot RemixOS on my laptop but I have a problem. I couldn't this method permanent. there is no file in the /boot/grub/grub.cfg in my RemixOS installation folder. Could you more specific about making this permanent. I have to do all this manually on bootmenu to boot RemixOS. BTW my Nvidia GPU is running on RemixOS not the integrated one and my laptop is hot more than it should . Is that Normal? Thanks in advance
@alali44 which option worked for you? Are you sure it's the nvidia gpu that's working?
Which boot type do u have? Are you sure it's uefi? Path you referred to is for uefi only.
Also remember to hit thanks when it's the right thing to do

I am pretty sure because nvidia cpu is running cause there is a color in my laptop power button that shows that. It is UEFI i am sure about that as well.
BTW what do you mean by saying that which option worked for you? I did all of your steps. To be more specific I add the kernel line of remix os in grub menu:
nouveau.modeset=0
nomodeset
androidboot.swrast=1(There is no option in my bios to disable nvidia cpu)
And after that RemixOS was opened but I can't this method permanent because of lack of file in boot folder.
Thanks in advance
@alali44 thanks for reporting. I guess I wasn't clear enough in the guide - I meant to do steps one after another in order but independently from each other - do not combine them together - it's like 4 different methods. I'll reedit the post to make this clear. Please check again which point helped.
About persistent change - you have UEFI, so follow instructions how to access the EFI partition and the grub.cfg file - go back to the guide.

@Sands207 but do you have 2 graphics cards? This guide is for dual GPU.
If you have only one graphics card then only scenarios 2. and 3. might help you. DO NOTE that I've recently made a major update to the OP - it's significantly changed.

Fan speed
I have a notebook with Intel i7 6700HQ and NVIDIA GTX 950m
with code EXTMOD=i915 it run in good resolution (1920x1080) but with fan and CPU at 100%
with code nomodeset it run low resolution (800x600) but CPU run better
Sorry for bad English
Thank you in advance
@zirrott I have the exact same cpu and gpu, but I haven't noticed the fans going 100%. Need to test more to be sure.
With nomodeset you won't get any good performance in games or video.
It has 3D accelleration disabled and it's like I described in the OP - utilizes simple drivers that focus only on allowing you to boot and do basic stuff.
