Botched rooting attempt using AndroPlus Kernel please help! - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought my first Sony Android device today (been using Samsung up to now).
Managed to unlock the bootloader.
Then tried to flash the Androplus Kernel but did the wrong one so I killed WIFI (not useable anymore).
Restored back to stock state 28.0.A.8.251 using EMMA/FlashTool (Flashed firmware for WIFI model Nordics)
WIFI working but now I get no update notifications over WIFI/OTA(?!?)
Now trying to find a way to update to 28.0.A.8.260 to attempt flashing AndroPlus Kernel/Custom Recovery again.
Have only been able to find FTF for Argentina market.
-- I want to stay on Lollipop 5.0.2 --
Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Use flashtool (not the sony Emma) and Xperifirm (there are many more firmware to download) then create a FTF file and flash it
Or try: http://www.xperiablog.net/forum/resources/categories/xperia-z4-tablet-wi-fi.81/

Fix Sony Album & Camera after Xposed install?!?

Thanks for your help, I managed to get the correct firmware (though UK version not Nordic) on the tablet and root it successfully with AndroPlus firmware 14. Also installed Xposed Framework v80 with success, though now Sonys Album app, and the stock Sony Camera force closes after I installed Xposed Framework, and I'm wondering if there is any way to fix this issue. I'd like to be able to use these, but if it's not possible I'll just use some other camera app and album/gallery app.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for your response! Though the link you provided didn't clue me in very much as to how to deodex system.
I am running Lollipop 5.0.2 (.260 something firmware). Primarily interested in just getting Album app and Camera app that came with the Z4 tablet to work while having Xposed Framework 0.80 installed and running (avoid force closing)

Well for the reason that I don't know if there is such a thing as an Androplus kernel that will allow me to successfully root the tablet running Mashmallow system software instead. It was enough of a pain to finally get the tablet rooted and working the way I like it for me to want to just stay with what works

Check the AndroPlusKernel thread. There is. You can use Titanium Backup or Helium to backup and restore your apps and settings.

Everybody who's been responding, THANK YOU!
For now I don't feel like I want to mess around with updating to the latest Android version on my tablet and re-rooting etc.
So if someone would be so kind as to explain to me how to get the Sony Album app and Sony Camera app deodexed/running with Xposed Framework v80 installed without force closing I would very much appreciate that. I only want to fix that for now, maybe in the future I will look at re-rooting under Android 6.0 but not right now.

Looks like I will have to bite the bullet here was hoping for some instructions for getting just the Album and Camera running on Android 5.0.2, but if that's not doable I will have to look into getting MM and rooting it again.
Question though is where I can find a suitable FTF file with Android MM 32.1.A.1.163 for the SGP712 (WIFI model)?
Or can/should I just:
1) Update firmware from Sony PC Companion then
2) Flash AndroPlus Kernel v20 and then TWRP 2.8.7.0 Touch fixed v2 using fastboot from Windows
3) Then installing SuperSU/Xposed Framework v80 in TWRP as I did with 5.0.2 when rooting that?
Is there any way for me to update to Android MM 32.1.A.1.163 and ensuring a FULL system reset so I know I will get a fresh start?

Seriously BIG thanks for your help with this! Followed the flashtool/xperifirm tutorial you linked to and then flashing and using the kernel/TWRP and Xposed component (v80 sdk23 arm64) that you recommended. Everything now works like a charm, and I am even back on the "Nordic combined" stock ROM image rather than the U.K one that I had to use for Android 5.0.2! And the Sony camera app and album app both work like a charm with no issues!
I'm VERY happy right now!!

[Q] 4.4.4 Easyroot?

Hey guys,
Can I still use the easy root tool to root after updating to the 4.4.4 firmware?
Thanks
Nope
I tried but it is getting stuck on CREATING VM (JAVASUCKS)
Same here... +1 Stuck on "Creating VM... "
No, the known flaws in 4.4.2 are all patched for latest fw, only current way around it is to downgrade, root install dual recovery and flash a pre-rooted zip from CWM.
In other words;
Go back to .314 (4.4.2) firmware,
Root,
Install a recovery,
And flash the new 4.4.4 firmware via recovery.

Ah right - Fuuuun...
I think i'll just carry on stock until someone sorts out a rooting method for 4.4.4 that doesn't involve so much faffing about lol.
Thanks for all the replies
Just keep a eye in Z3 Section too

I have a new 4.4.4 Z2, should I root it now or wait after the Lollipop version is installed?
Will I be able to install the Lollipop when rooted?

Systemless root is developed mainly for Marshmallow.
Latest stock firmware is Lollipop which uses system root.
So if you use custom ROMs like CM13/RR you can use SuperSU 2.78 SR1 (systemless) which works perfectly.
If you stick with latest stock, use old system SuperSU ~v2.4.
Speaking about magisk, it is stated:
Currently Known Not Working Devices (v6):
Sony devices generally: Haven't investigated why it won't work, if you know any addition quirks about Sony boot image modifications, please contact me

Need help Rooting and beyond , SGP321 , 5.1.1 , Build 10.7.a.0.222

Hi everyone , i'm new here but was told there's alot of fantastic people here that could help with my problem, so here goes.
I'm familiar with the process of using flashtool and downgrading my firmware , i recently flashed to 4.3 to enable root and then used towelroot , which worked fine, but i had issues with Link2sd not working correctly, which has important files i need to use. i decided just to go back to 5.1.1 ,so i flashed the firmware in the title and used Kingroot as a simple solution , but i honestly don't trust it being there. Ive read a few posts but most of the links for files have gone because the system is quite old now , can someone point me in the right direction and help me out please.
Bootloader - can't be unlocked (according to Sony)
Firmware 5.1.1 (current)
If any more information needs to be added, please let me know, thank you
If you don't want to use chineese root tools like KingRoot and Vroot, install any firmware like 4.4.4 or 5.0.2, after install recovery using option 3 (Installation on an unrooted ^(Lollipop 5.0^) ROM using rootkitXperia). Upon entering recovery, flash PreRooted 5.1.1 zip. As a result, you will have 5.1.1 with root and recovery.

Can't flash stock rom

Hi guys,
I really need help here. I have a SGP312, bootloader unlocked, and I'd like to get back to stock rom 10.7.A.0.228 because I need MHL-Output and this doesn't work with any custom rom I tried. Here's the problem: I can get into fastboot and into flash mode but nothing I try is working. If I use flashtool the and flash latest XperiFirm ROM for SGP312 everything is running fine until I try to boot. The Sony logo appears and then nothing happens. Once I waited for over 30 minutes. Screen stays on but it's not booting.
So back to flashing recovery...in recovery I can flash ALL custom roms I want. LineageOS, crDroid, CyanogenMod, no problem. If I try to flash this: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-tablet-z/general/stock-10-7-0-228-vmo-t3303365" I have same problem as described before. Sony logo pops up, screen stays on, no boot.
Also I tried different recoveries TWRP, CWM, Phil's and so on and nothing seems to work. With wipes without wipes does not matter...
And I tried Sony flash tool Emma (with rom for SGP11) and I tried with TWRP to flash a backup of 10.7.A.0.228 I made...both with same results
Can anyone help? I just want to go back to Android 5.1.1 (root preferred but if no root it's also okay) or I need a custom rom with working MHL. Does anyone have the one clue that can get me back to stock rom?
Thanks guys!

It's a known issue, especially after coming from android 7.x.x ROMs.
You need to flash ANY stock ROM except 5.1.1. 4.1.2 or 4.4.2 will do. After the ROM boots ok, you can flash 5.1.1 directly via Flashtool 0.9.18.6.
It will work.

I'm currently on Android 5.1.1 (Build 10.7.A.0.228, Germany/EU if that matters), and I'd really like to try to upgrade it to LineageOS 15.1 for all kinds of reasons; but in case that I botch anything (or the apps I really need don't work, like the screen time manager, as it's the kids' device), I really want to have a working firmware at hand to at least recover it back.
Kinda-noob question: do I really need a flashable firmware or would a full nandroid backup work for a rollback once I have TWRP installed?

For a kids device, i would recommend to stay on sony stock 5.1.1, because games run faster there, also it is already tried and tested with easy root installation and debloating.
To revert back from custom ROM (LOS or RR) to stock you'll need to flash firstly any firmware (like 4.4.4) except the latest 5.1.1, then boot it, and afterwards update to 5.1.1 if you want so. If you revert straight to the latest 5.1.1 stock, you'll get permanent bootloop or black screen issue.
So you need to have at least two stock firmware packages.
As for nandroid backup, you can't revert from custom rom to stock via restoring nandroid backup.
Fresh install is recommended.
