I've got a couple questions on debloating a ROM if someone could help me please. I think my questions are pretty general for any Samsung ROM, but I've provided details of my setup below just in case. I've got the ROM debloated down to basically nothing except Play Store and Phone and everything works perfect except two things...
General Info:
- Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (Non Developer Edition)
- On latest OTA OF1 for Modem, Recovery and Boot (Lollipop 5.0)
- Rooted
- Running JasmineROM 6.1 as base and working on debloating
- Can restart from beginning with official OTA OF1 update if needed due to new Root found
Questions:
1. I've found that I must go through the official Samsung Setup Wizard after a factory reset for the built in Samsung Task Manager to work. If I remove the Samsung Setup Wizard, the built in Samsung Task Manager will NOT work after a factory reset. I guess the Samsung Setup Wizard enables the Samsung Task Manager? My issue is I have to remove the Samsung Setup Wizard due to the debloating of other Samsung apps or it will crash in a loop after a factory reset and I'll have to start over with the OTA as mentioned above since I'll be locked in the crashing setup wizard loop. I understand I could just not do a factory reset after debloating as the built in task manager keeps working, but I'm trying to make a ROM out of this to make my life easier later if I want to factory reset. Is there a way to manually enable the built-in Samsung Task Manager without completing the Samsung Setup Wizard?
2. Google account Sync error: "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly" shows up under my Google account under Settings. This only shows up after I debloat and continues even after I do a factory reset on my customized ROM. I did NOT debloat anything Google app wise that was part of the base ROM. All the Google Apps I install (Chrome, Gmail, Voice, Contacts, etc) do sync perfectly fine, however. I'm not sure what's causing this error now, but it will not go away and I'm not really sure what's not actually syncing. Any ideas what it could possibly be?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
1. I could never find out how the Samsung Setup Wizard activated the Samsung Task Manager so I simply just went without the option to do a factory reset. Considering we have root on 5.0 now, I'll just start from scratch if needed.
2. I figured out what the issue was with the Google sync. Considering I debloated everything down to basically the Phone and Play Store apps and built it up with my own apps, the sync broke because the Samsung Calendar was part of that debloating. The Google Sync error was because it was trying to sync my Google calendar data, but had no application to sync it with. It was hard to find because the Calendar data did not show up in my Google account list with everything else since no app was there. Once I added the calendar apk back, everything started to work again. I tried to install the Google Calendar app, but had no luck because no other Calendar app would work without the stock Samsung Calendar apk for some reason. The stock Samsung apk activates some "calendar storage" of some sort, I guess.
I hope this information is able to help somebody.

Hi all, I have a real strange problem I cannot underststand.
Since two or three days, my S3 has been freezing every few minutes.
I restored factory settings and installed latest italian original firmware without root or anything.
I powered it up and, after having logged in to Google during the initial setup, my Phone freezes.
I thought it was a hardware problem, but, after trying and trying, I discovered that if I toggle off Syncing, everything works fine.
Any idea?
I am going to try a custom rom, because I cannot really understand the problem.

did you try to switch off certain parts that are synced (e.g. contacts, calendar etc.) to isolate the problem?
Yes, it could be caused by Picasa... but not sure at all

well try to deactivate only Picasa and see, maybe it tries to sync all pictures and you got too many to bear?
I tried, no success
Try clearing Google services framework data, and all Google app data, or remove Google account and wipe cache/dalvik then add account again

I've got the exact problem, but since I turned sync off (by the pulling-down menu) my SGS3 has managed to stay on for an hour without freezing. The very minute I turn sync on, it freezes again, and it does'nt matter what I'm doing at that moment, if I'm browsing the internet och just flipping around in the settings or using the Play store.
Samsung says they havn't heard of this before..
Have you tried the custom ROM?
Here is how solved.
I added the google account. I pressed "cancel" while it was syncing.
Then I deactivated Sync with Picasa and Google+ Photo.
Moreover I clicked "Settings -> Apps -> All Apps -> Gallery -> Clear Data".
In my gallery, now, I only see Camera Photos... everything is working fine.
Let me know if it works for you.
P.S. Custom ROMS I tried did not have this problem.

Please Help me...
I had used the app System App Remover to remove some of the crapware that Sprint and Samsung bog down your phone with. In particular I use Google Calendar for my main calendar and I use it through Thunderbird too as well as Google's web app for calendar. I love that I can easily create events and wham they are right there on my phone too.
Now I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung puts it's own calendar app there and when you go into that calendar it wants you to set up a Samsung account, etc. I don't want a Samsung account and I'm quite happy staying with Google Calendar. So I tried to remove the Samsung portions of Calendar but leave the Google Calendar, etc. It is hard to tell which is which because they both simply use the name "Calendar". In any event I screwed up my Google Calendar on my Note 3.
Now this System app remover says it's safe or relatively safe and that it backs up any system app you remove in a "recycle bin" so you can reinstall it. So I go to the recycle bin and attempt to reinstall the Google calendar app I removed and it failed! I've talked to the developer and he's just perplexed and I'm out of a calendar on my phone!!!
I've tried reinstalling the Google Calendar app from the play store and while that succeeds I see no calendars being displayed. Here's some of the odd behavior I see:
When it starts it presents a month view with no events
Selecting Calendars to Display shows nothing
Selecting Calendars to Sync shows a blank page with Cancel and OK buttons but it says Loading forever!
Even though I have already signed into a Google account, if I try to add a Google account and supply my username and password it says that it had trouble contacting the Google Servers and to try again later. Of course later it does the same thing
If I go into my Settings and look at my Google account and what syncs I see no entry for Sync Calendar
If I try to make a new event I get a similar black screen saying Loading..., Cancel and Done buttons but it goes nowhere
It seems like the sync portion of Google Calendar/Account is broken or something is not signed properly. I've tried to find the appropriate CalendarSync.apk file and found a few, installed a few but the behavior described above remains the same.
HELP!
Is there a way to fix this without having to flash a rom? I used to play with installing rom's but now a days I try to just keep it stock - well I get additional apps but I try not to flash rom's and get unsupported. I have used towelroot to gain access to root. I use it because I also use Tasker and Secure Settings to try to automate some things and for some odd reason you cannot toggle GPS on and off until you get Secure Setting and root your phone! Stupid. And because I'm rooted System Update doesn't want to update me. I'm not sure if there's an OTA update for Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 but I would have thought that if there was say 4.4.3 available that update would fix my problem.
If I can't fix that problem could I flash a stock Sprint rom (where?) and then have all my apps come back from backup/restore (I recently did a factory reset and even this didn't fix it! And while many apps came back courtesy of Google, a number didn't and what is worse is that I lost a number of settings and configurations. I wouldn't want to have to do that again.
I'm almost at the point of saying screw it and getting back into custom ROMs. Sprint rarely updates us, Google doesn't update us so what's the point of staying stock kernel? Sprint tech droid are incompetent.
In any event if somebody can help that'd be cool (why such apps as Calendar and the like need to be backed into the ROM instead of just downloadable and installable like every other app is beyond me!)

Ok, chances are the Bloatware removal script removed more than just the GoogleCalendarSnycAdapter.apk. It probably removed most or all your Google Apps. First I would try and reinstall the calendar app from the recycle bin again, this time copy and paste it with some type of root manager app like Root Explorer. Make sure you put it in system/app and not system/priv-app. Check the permissions they should be rw-r--r-- after your have pasted the app. Then with the root manger app go to Delvik-Cache and delete it, now power down the device completely and reboot. It will take a minute as it rebuilds the Delvik-Cache.
Now in the event that the removal script took all the Google apps, here is a link for stock KK 4.4.2 NC5 .tar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 ( Thanks micmars ) just follow the steps listed on his thread. Here is a link for Odin v 1.85 and Samsung drivers http://www.downloadodin.info/download-odin-1-85 version 1.85 always works the best for me.

Note that all other Google apps (at least the apps I use) work fine. Hangouts, Chrome, Chromeccast, GMail, Music, etc.
OK, I see two GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk files - one in /sdcard/Download that is 490.33 KB and one that is already in /system/app that is -rw-r--r-- but 618.06 KB. More is better right? I use ES File Explorer as a file manager and I am root. I could not find anything on my system with *delvik* in the name. Might it be something with *art* instead? Isn't Kit Katt on art now and not delvik? Wait I found it under /data. When you say "delete it" what is "it"? I ask because I see things like:
[email protected]@[email protected]
[email protected]@[email protected]
[email protected]@[email protected]
[email protected]@GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter(1)[email protected]
[email protected]@[email protected]
I think #4 was created when I accidentally downloaded GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk twice into /system/app. I've copied these 5 files to save them then removed #3 and #4, powered down and back up. Nothing different.
Next I copied all of /data/delvik to the sdcard and removed all of the files under /data/delvik, powered down and back up.This took considerably longer as the cache was rebuilt at startup. In fact it said Android is upgrading... After that it started apps and I was back up. But the calendar still exhibits the exact same behavior.
I think what needs to be reinstalled is probably the Calendar Storage because it seems to me whenever I try to add an event or a calendar it fails.
As for your links, why am I flashing my entire phone with a new rom and what will be happening to all of the apps and settings I currently have installed? I'm sorry but I really only want my Calendar app to come back. Everything else works. Last time when I did a factory reset in attempting to fix this many apps came back, but many didn't and lots of them had missing settings, etc. I really, really don't want to go through that again!
BTW why didn't I get an email when you responded...

First sorry for the slow response, was out of town helping my daughter move. Now the correct size for the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk is 618.06KB. Here are copies of the files off my device which is a note 3 stock rooted 4.4.2 NC5.
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk https://mega.co.nz/#!tNxxxI5T!5xftzTM9ajyF45MeMR-qDS61ftYIhUIT3p2-hsBdN0w
SecCalendarProvider.apk https://mega.co.nz/#!0FIE0JgI!ENASoyihE3CLhECDDvBbRec1ROU5FxkAERQID7q7FPU
SecCalendarProvider.odex https://mega.co.nz/#!8MICFZSY!z23JLhKGgI9K5-1Lpe_GYszMlXmJyVaKsfaKd2vyCm8
Download to PC desktop, copy and paste to your sd card, then with your ES File manger copy the original files to a ext sd card or PC desktop. Now copy and paste the downloaded files, the adapter goes in system/app and the provider goes in system/priv-app. Once installed, check permissions rw-r--r-- then go to data/delvik-cache and delete the delvik-cache file, then go to cache/recovery and delete the last install and last log files. Then completely power down the device and reboot, delvik-cache will rebuild, then the new apks to will install.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Looks like I'm back up! No problem on the wait, I just wanted to keep the issue alive here.
Detailing what I did for the benefit of the next person I first downloaded your files and used PushBullet to push them to my phone. If you haven't heard of PushBullet then you should check it out! It's a nice way of pushing files, links, directions between your cell phone and your browser. I then:
. Put these files into /sdcard/Downloads/Calendar
. Moved /system/app/GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk -> /sdcard/Downloads/save
. Moved /system/priv-app/SecCalendarProvider.apk -> /sccard/Downloads/save
. I could not find a SecCalendarProvider.odex file under /system/priv-app! Perhaps that was the root of my problem.
. I copied /sdcard/Downloads/Calendar/GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk -> /system/app
. I copied /sdcard/Downloads/Calendar/SecCalendarProvider.apk -> /system/priv-app
. I copied /sdcard/Downloads/Calendar/SecCalendarProvider.odex -> /system/priv-app
. I looked at the perm bits of these files and when they were in /sdcard/Download/Calendar I could only see one of the 3 bit setting. It was set to 6 or rw-. However once I copied them to /system/app I could see the full set of perms and I changed them to 644.
. As for /data/delvik-cache, I didn't know exactly which file to delete but played it save and only deleted [email protected]@[email protected]. I figured if that was not the right think I could do it again but move all of the delvik-cache off of the phone like I did before. Turns out I didn't need to.
. I didn't bother (actually didn't see) the part about deleting the log files in the cache/recovery. Apparently I didn't need to.
Powered down the phone and then back up. Briefly saw a thing about updating and then I boot in. Started the Calendar and it didn't look good - it looked like it did before. But I went to the "Calendars to Display" and to my amazement it displayed many of my calendars! I went back and events were filling in as the background sync was taking place. I'M BACK!!!!
Thanks.

Hi, all. I followed all the instructions in this thread twice because I'm having the same issue and no luck. The "Calendars to Sync" is still spinning endless on the "Loading..." screen. I'm on stock Note 3 and have root. I even deleted all the files from /data/dalvik-cache. Any other suggestions? My issue is just the calendar sync as well. All the apk and other files mentioned here have been placed from the downloads that were provided. I'm totally dependent on my multiple calendars and dead in the water here.

I also was unable to follow this procedure with any success. I'm trying to get Google Calendar working again on my Sprint Galaxy S4 running 5.0.1 rooted stock. When I put seccalendarprovider in the app folder I get a crashy Calendar Storage (unusable). When I put it in a subfolder of priv-app it just says that Calendar Storage is disabled. When I just dump it straight into priv-app it's also crashy and unusable.
Good afternoon.
Recently, I dealt with the message "The Contacts application stopped". The same with Calendar app and sometimes with the Camera app. The same issue I had with the original keyboard LG, which I did not use so I did not mind that. Basically, the message appeared only after backing up with Titanium backup before I switched back to Smart Keyboard Pro.
Deleting data of the application did not help. So I had to do a Factory reset. But that logically resulted in deleting Smart Pro Keaboard and thus I was done because LG keyboard was not working again. So I could not enter the password for Wi-Fi, could not log into my Google Account and therefore all my backups were useless (LG backup, Google backup and Titanium Backup). Now, as I write this, I get an idea to install Titanium Backup from the card, so maybe next time).
So finally I had to flash the phone. Then I restored everything (root, applications, SDfix, Folder mount, ... ) and the phone worked for about a week without any problems. Then Contacts started to stop (again: "The application Contacts stopped"). I went around by using another application for contacts. But then even Settings began to stop. For example when I need to turn on Wi-Fi, I'll hold the icon for a list of available networks and the app Settings stops. The same when I try to set the background image or when I try to access the list of applications or try to view Phone info.
Prior to these problems, the phone went over a year without any problems. I've got SafeRemover, but I just deleted useless apps like Google Music and so on. I cannot delete data of the stopping apps since I cannot get into the menu.
I do not I have any suspicious newly installed application. No task killer, booster, antivirus and similar crap I do. Just SD Maid.
I have a LG L70, Android 4.4.2 with the newest firmware from LG web. I can not find out more because Setting would stop. :-/
Do you guys have any idea how to solve the problem?
You could try an older version of the firmware.
You could also try clearing cache and dalvik cache through recovery (if possivle) or flashing custom ROMs (if available).
Thanks a lot for your replies. I don't know how to clean Dalvik cache with recovery. I tried flashing the same stock ROM again with normal flash. Other possibilities are (in this order): CSE flash with the same rom, normal flash with different stock rom, custom rom.
So after normal flashing with stock ROM everything seemed ok. I recovered some apps and setting from Google account and then I started recovering from LG backup. It ended, phone switched of and is dead. I can't switch it on, load Recovery menu neither Bootloader menu (with USB cable). So it look like a hard brick.
My notebook sees the phone as "QHSUSB_BULK" in a "non-determined device" category. I'm searching the unbrick method but I start being desperate. :-/
Hey,
today I needed to turn off my phone to swap battery. On turning it back on, my Google account wasn't there anymore, a notification said "due to changes to your account you have to sign in again". But signing it just won't do it. It doesn't fail, I come to the accepting terms and conditions, but when accepting the app just closes, the account isn't created so it seems that whatever app is responsible for that just crashes for no reason without any notification. The strange things: in the process I can see only the arrow in the bottom right, not the words "next" or "accept" (at the last page), only when I tap on them I can see them. And I had no accounts.db under /data/system/users/0. Now I have that file via TB restore. And I now see, after reflashing my ROM (by wiping /system, cache and dalvik-cache in TWRP and flashing the ROM) that I also have under /data a system_ce (with accounts_ce.db) and system_de (with accounts_de.db and accounts_de.db-journal), but I don't know if I had them before the TB restore or the ROM reflashing (having english (US) and german (germany) as system languages).
No solution form anywhere else was helpful. I froze AdAway with TB, deleted /system/etc/hosts, deleted data from PlayStore and PlayServices with multiple reboots and the mentioned reflashing, nothing seems to help.
I'm running Emotion ROM based on CM 14.1 on my Note 4 N910F with latest modem and bootloader I can find. Since I don't know how far that could be ROM or CM related, I'm posting that problem here. I have absolutely no problems logging in with my account on my desktop PC via browser, even logging in on google.com from chrome on the phone is no problem. But filling in the infomation either initiated over system settings -> accounts or by opening PlayStore, I pass everything but the account is not under the accounts section and PlayStore would just open again with the login page.
Anyone any idea how to fix it? Here is a logfile of me trying to log in.
UPDATE: Just did a TWRP restore. Did not help! Going to ask Google meanwhile since it might not be a problem with my device...at least if I can find out where to do so.
PS: just looked into my account settings, it seems to recognize that I log in to my device, but that's it. Disconnectiong the device from there and trying again also doesn't work.
Xperia 1 J9110, updated OTA to Android 11 (55.2.A.4.47). After the update Google services basically stopped functioning. Sync is not happening for any Google application, Gmail doesn't load emails (except for once in a blue moon), Calendar is unable to sync, Youtube isn't loading anything (but Vanced is working fine), and most annoyingly Play Store just shows an error with "Try again" and only barely works if I clear its data until the next time it's launched. Logcat for these apps only says that some network requests to Google URLs are failing, but the ones that are logged appear to open fine in the browser.
Googling didn't provide any relevant information whatsoever. Sony support email is on radio silence, twitter support just directs me to the website because I'm in the wrong region.
I've tried:
* deleting Services data (though it seems impossible to completely wipe it without a factory reset)
* deleting and re-adding Google accounts
* different versions of Services and System Webview
basically everything I could think of, except for factory reset which I'm very reluctant to do due to a lot of data on the device that will take a lot of time to back up, if at all possible. Nothing worked so far.
I've also tried downgrading to Android 10, but the only ROM I found was for the Russian market, and the device refused to load without factory reset (flashing back to the "Customized EU" Android 11 solved that without factory reset). In fact Android 11 for other markets isn't booting either with a "your device is corrupt" message. I'd like to try Android 10 for EU, e.g. 55.1.A.12.28-R12B, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet.
Are there EU versions of Android 10 anywhere, or is there anything else I could try, except for factory reset as a last resort, to make Google services functional again?
