If I follow this method, and make a TWRP backup before fastboot flashing everything, is it possible to restore the backup? Also do I loose my photos on the device etc with this method?

you should be able to restore the full twrp backup - however, do not use the flash all script in this case. Flash the images manually

Thanks for the info. Which partitions should I backup thenm? Also bootloader and vendor etc? I will prepare for losing everything but most likely I won't be sticking with the version and would save much time if TWRP restore would work accordingly.
Btw, how stable does the preview seem? Does it look like you could possibly use it as a daily driver?
I dirty flashed and it worked so... But hey I know what I'm getting into.

FAQ
Check out this comprehensive HELP INDEX which will help answer your questions.
Got "No SDCard" error?
This is because 4.4.x seems to point to: storage/emulated/0 & L points to: data/media/0
Solution:
- Mount system in TWRP/CWM
- Wipe system, dalvik, data, cache
- Unmount system
- Install ROM
- Factory reset
- Reboot
- Go back to recovery & flash SuperSU (link above).
- Reboot
Still not resolved? try:
Open terminal and type
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
or type
su
restorecon -r /data/media/0/*
Still not resolved? back everything up and flash the userdata.img (erases your SD card)
Does Titanium Backup work?
Titanium backup and other similar apps do not work 100% on L... as expected.
How do I restore my user apps?
You can restore your apps using this method:
- While on a 4.4.x rom, go into TB > batch actions > recovery > 'create update.zip...' > select user apps
- Install L > flash the update.zip
- Done!
I get a "failed" error when flashing ROM
You did not unmount system or it got re-mounted automatically. Reboot your recovery > unmount system > flash ROM
SMS/MMS not working?
SMS & MMS is related to your APN and not the ROM. Check that.
Can I flash this over my 4.4.x rom?
Yes, but do a clean install
OMG x app is not working?
That's expected - a lot of apps need to be updated to be compatible with L
OMG xPosed is not working?
No, it's not compatible with ART which is the default runtime on L
Can I flash a custom kernel?
Yes, thanks to @eng.stk

Hi,
something else: there was a post in the MultiROM thread about BOKROM, where a TWRP backup usable with MultiROM has been provided. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...rom-cm12-unofficial-hammerhead-gapps-t2969820. In the OP there is a "Special Download: M Preview 2 Backup *** NEW ***"
It works for me.

it's only the zImage as i made no modifications on ramdisk. You MUST flash stock MPZ79M boot.img, and then as usual flash this with "fastboot flash zimage zImage-dtb"

Do you know when a multirom zip is coming?
Any chance there'll be a modified kernel with permissive or disabled SELinux when this ROM gets updated to a flashable zip? Just wondering. I'm already on M Preview but I hear that the kernel change is like the only way to use root for now until SuperSU is updated.
Thanks, dowloading, no root yet?
