Nexus 6P screen died - Nexus 6P General

In a case spigen one to be specific with a tempered glass on fell from about 5 feet flat on its back on ceramic tile picked it up and the screen no longer turns on. Everything else functions LED, sound, and even when I put my hand on the the fingerprint reader it vibrates. I knew the 6P isn't that durable from the countless of videos from YouTube, but damn.
Not sure what its worth atm I think I'll keep it maybe Google will give the 6P users a free replacement from accidental damage like they did the Nexus 5 at one point.
Really tempted to buy another, but I'm on a budget right now.
Now I'm sad seeing all the N news going on
FML

Sucks to hear man. Did you get Nexus protect?

Look the lcd over for any cracks. The display cracks like glass and when it does it doesn't display anything. A local repair shop may be able to fix it for cheap. The part is only about $80 on eBay.

does any of the screen covers work?

Thanks
I'm assuming you mean screen protectors? The original one that came with the phone is great... just try not to get dust underneath it. Makes it unsalvagable
As for other screen protectors... well, you get what you pay for. I bought a pack of 12 for about $15. A $1 screen protector is exactly that.
In terms....
If you're talking about the today screen then yes. Download the .Cab files on your device and open it on your device. Try that for now and if it say like exe. then more then likely you would have to active sync your comp to phone. good luck
I meant screen protector
the one that came with the phone is smaller then the screen.
Very annoying.
Yeag ut do
Try it but dont buy it... your phone will more then likely dent and scratch but it happens over the years. by the time your know it; youll be buying a new phone anyway. Im on my 4 xda over 2 years. IF your with t mobile; they will go into a big change really soon. phone is already in transaction to catch the 3G internet. Save that $15 to your nexts phone! by the time your know it 6 months later you have $45. good luck
I use Boxwave screen protectors with this device and all my past devices. I have good luck with Boxwave. One screen protector will last you 9 months to a year. I normally just carry my Wing (and my previous devices) in my front pocket with the screen turned inwards to my leg. No keys, pens, change or other things in the pocket. Never have had a problem this way.
I use ShieldZone's full case cover(film) on my wing...
even though the place I work doesn't sell them, I still take my keys to the case just to prove the point that cases/protectors are worth it..
I keep my Wing in my pocket, frequently with my money clip and/or pens... 2 months it's still in *great* condition.. sure the cover is getting a bit dirty, but I know when i remove the cover months down the road to replace it it'll probably look like new again
I just ordered a set of protectors from NuShield. They seem like a really great product. I'll let you know how they are when they get here. It was 3 for $11.99 US.
Im into selling phones and one thing I've noticed is that WM phones don't depreciate as much as say a Razr would. I read a comment about someone who says you shouldn't get one (and I respect everyone's opinion,) but that wouldn't be very smart. If you keep your phone in good condition + keep a screen protector on it by the time you come to sell it and buy a new phone you will be able to put more money on your new purchase (with the money made from selling your old phone) than you would with just the 15 you would save from buying a screen protector. For me this is a no brainer. Get a screen protector, and I don't mean the one that comes with it, buy a good one for like 20$.
Atleast once you do you won't care about touching her delicate parts cuz you'll be using protection
I just got my NuShield screen protectors in today and I think they rock. They're of a very strong plastic material that is absolutely clear, and it completely covers the screen, even under the bezel, without using any adhesive. No bubbles, nothing between the protector and the screen, absolutely perfect display. Cannot even tell it is there.
I read a post in another thread where someone bought a sizable skin from bestskinsever.com. I tried it out because they said they had such good luck with it. Its the first screen protector that I have ever put on that actually is invisible. No dust, no bubbles, looks perfect. You use a soap solution before you put it on and slide it into place. I used my fingernail to get the edges of the screen protector underneath the edges of the phone. Seriously, it looks like its not even there. Oh yeah, they are cheap as hell too.
i buyed a schreen protector , exactly to herald .. it cost $22 (it was only one schreen protector) .. i have it about 15 months of full gaming by stylus, and surving net by picsel brovser (a lot of slides by stylus) and i dont have 1 scratch on it... it is realy perfect .. perfect fits on my schreen, and it seems, it is undestroyable... very happy with it ...
i would say, you better buy one more expensive for a long of time than be still buing that, where one cost $1.. (my opinion)

Anyone have the ZAGG- InvisibleSHIELD?

So my 2 day old Note has a hairline scratch that is only visible with the screen off in the right light. I am told that if I get this screen protector it will more than likely hide the scratch, and obviously prevent new ones. I'm curious to hear if others have this and like it. I have never used a screen protector because I don't like the way they look and feel, but apparently this screen is very easily scratched, despite me only keeping it in my pocket by itself.

I had an invisibleShield on my Atrix and loved it. I also bought the ivs for the note and am sending it back tomorrow because it is for the European modle which means it has a button hole on the middle front. They don't make one for the ATT note yet but as soon as they do I am getting it.

Yes the Zagg or any Zagg type screen protector will make any light scratch invisible. I was the guy who posted about a scratch . Anyways my Zagg came in like a day after it happened, I put it on and I cant even see the scratch.

Yes it does and it kinda sucks, I always buy BSE skins (Best skins ever) but they only have the international version atm.
Have the Zagg Dry Invisi-Shield installed on mine, front and back protection, and both he dry and wet install shields leave little indented marks when you use the s-pen because they are soft. At first its barely noticeable but the little grooves build up over time. Just something to consider, depending on how much you use the s-pen.

I wish they would have just left the s pen off because I'm never going to use it. It should just be a smartphone, not even tablets come with stylist pens now days. Oh well, I'm still really enjoying the phone. Can't wait for ICS to come out and fix the stutter/non responsive bugs when flipping through home pages.
Check ebay. It's cheaper and free shipping.

I use my s-pen. A lot. Glad they don't base their product manufacturing decisions around your personal preferences. Indespensibe for fine- photo editing, PDF annotation, mobile signatures and the list goes on and on.
Damn that stylus kills the device! Oh well, not everyone listens to Steve.

I went to Best Buy and and exchanged the phone for a new one because of the scratch and bought the InvisibleShield. I'm not crazy about the Orange Peel look, but it's better than the scratched screen look.
i have the shield on mine as well........after having the rocket for 5 months and not having a case nor a screen protector i had to get one for the notes awsome screen.
and the S-pen is Great. i use it for texting and everything. the write to text is pretty accurate and fast when you get used to it. my only gripe is that with the Zagg shield the pen does not flow quite as smoothly so it hickups here and there when not applying just the right amount of pressure.
I actually wish that it had the physical home button like the Intl version. I saw some neat tips and tricks -such as disable touch screen -which would be great for movies, etc -especially with children...
I went with the Rearth Ringbo screen cover. Cant comment since I ordered it this AM.

I was 1 click away from ordering that. I ended up with the SGP because I didn't know which was better. I haven't done screen protector shopping in a while. Is the Rearth better than
SGP?
I just learned after buying the Invisible Shield that even though they offer a lifetime "free" replacement, it costs $4 for them to ship it to you and you have to pay to ship it back. In what world is that free?
I bought the invisible sheild today from bestbuy. Not really liking how it feels "tacky" compared to the slick glass. Something to keep in mind when considering purchasing it.

I bought the Zagg tonight, installed it and thought I had it on perfect! Was all proud of myself. Went to go turn the screen on and all these rainbow colors and weird looking dots all over between the screen and shield! I was so pissed. I think I sprayed too much of their liquid on. I should have just paid Best Buy to install. What a waste of money. $22 down the drain.
bought some screen protectors on Amazon to get here Thursday and then 6x off of eBay. I don't care if I have to replace one a month. I'm not spending $20 anymore on one screen protector.
Zagg has also started making an HD version of there screen protector, this one does not give you the orange peel look like the old ones. Right now i think it is only for the Iphone but give it some time they will probity start making them all like that.

[WARNING]Broken screens

Okay so I am sharing my experience for everyone. I had recently broken my screen, and I needed to replace the screen. I bought a screen digitizer off of eBay, and....Destroyed the phone sub frame. The reason I am posting is because I am warning all of you, you need to buy a full display assembly online. This includes the whole new display( glass and LCD) wires and bits, and a full subframe. Unless you are superior to an Asian 12 year old working in the factory that made your phone (hint hint, wink wink, you're not) than you need to buy a full assembly, or end up like me an destroy your phone.

+1.
Unfortunately, I saw this post after doing damage to my phone. The plastic housing that the digitizer /lcd sits in is verrrryyy easy to damage around the edges when you try to separate the screen. Heating it with the heat gun to get the separation actually makes it even more fragile and prone to damage. Thankfully I was able to return digitizer/lcd and get full setup from here :
http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-evo-4g-lte-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing-and-light-guide.html
Hopefully things will go a little better this time.
Wow, that includes the plastic frame? I replaced my screen a couple of weeks ago (glass and LCD), and the edges of the frame did get slightly chewed up. It's not too bad, but I wish I had known abut this item.
On a positive note, I suppose I can get a job in China when the economy completely collapses.

Ya my screen got waterlogged after I got trashed and left it out in the rain. Let everything dry out and thankfully all the boards and connectors work. I ended up going the cheap route and just buying a screen and not the frame. I almost successfully got the thing apart. I do have a small chip in the frame on the left side but my case covers that. I only paid around $50 but I did give myself around $50 in headaches. Definitely spend the extra $50 and just get the whole package.
If you do decide to try and separate the screen from the frame, use a lot of heat. Not necessarily high heat, but for a good duration. Get the adhesive nice and warm. Then pry it loose through one of the holes in the housing/frame (go at it from the back) and slowly work it away from the frame. Once you get it off, heat the adhesive back up and then add some 5 minute quick epoxy to the black adhesive pads in the frame. Then use some clamps and let the epoxy cure. There is a great video I followed below. It took me a while and I will probably ride with this for a minute until it bothers the hell out of me. My gf said she can't even notice.

I have a Incipio NGP case on mine all the time and I always have a screen protector installed (usually the cheap ones from Amazon). I have never had a problem with the screen until I left my phone out in the rain. The Gorilla Glass II is decently strong but only to a certain extent. I mainly use the screen protector from scratches if I accidentally put it in the same pocket as my keys.
I was afraid of breaking mine one day, fortunately for me my volume button went out first and I have Best Buys insurance and the replace the phone with no deductible.
Seems like screen issues are pretty common on this model. I'm on my 4th Evo now because the screen kept failing on me. Based on what I read it sounds like I'd never want to have to replace this myself.

The official Z Ultra wear & tear thread

The ZU is nearing its 2 year birthday, I've had mine for about 8 months now. So far I have been more than happy with it, although I do have to say I'm quite disappointed with the build quality. To be more specific, the paint job of the aluminium/plastic parts. It literally starts to fall off/rub away, whereas I still baby my ZU. This puzzles me and tells me there is nothing brushed about the 'aluminum (is it plastic?), just an ordinary paint job. Also, I've noticed that the material is rather weak, getting dents easily.
What is your experience concerning the wear & tear of this device?
I must agree that the paint of the aluminium parts is rather weak, my 5 months old ZU already got some of it torn. In addition it gets easily bended, when I put my phone on a table or sth the right bottom corner is like 1mm over the surface. And it scratches a lot, especially the back, seriously I'm only putting it in or from the pocket with no keys or anything and it looks like some really angry cat wanted to play with it. However the front is untouched, despite using pencil a lot to navigate, but the oleophobic coating have gone just after a month and because of it random touches appears. Aparr from these, I have no complaints and sorry for my English, not my native lang
Regards
I bought my second Z Ultra today
The screen on my July 2013 ZU broke with my thighs pressure while I was driving. I thought it was safe but it cracked.
Service centre in India wanted Rs. 10400 to replace screen. Grey market Rs. 8000. And it would lose waterproofing after replacement. New Z Ultra is Rs. 18500. So I bought my second ZU today (Feb 15 make)
Last time a Leather cover was given free but this time its DK30 magnetic dock which is good. I will keep check on price for screen and when it drops I will replace my broken ZUs screen and gift it to my wife who is using my old Note 1
My new ZU is on 4.4.4 so I am thinking if I should upgrade to Lollipop or not. I dont like Lollipop. I used it on Moto E2 and it looks crap.
I have two Ultra and both are in mint condition. No scratches, nothing. Not a single noticeable defect. They move along in cases but still. Have not experienced any denting or anything else that would put them in a worse position so I am perfectly happy with the quality.
I think mine is just over a year old now
Tons of scratches on the back, and some on the front (i don't use a case or screen protector)
I've got it running the latest slimkat and I've got no complaints with regards to this OS
Might be moving onto the Samsung s6
I use a book style cover to protect mine, and it's still in quite good condition. I reckon on having to buy a new cover every 4 months as the plastic frame which holds the ZU cracks or breaks, particularly at the corner where the USB socket is present and there's not enough plastic to be strong.
There's a ding on the corner near the USB connector where I dropped it and the case's missing plastic wasn't able to protect it.
I haven't removed the anti-shatter plastic film on front or back. You can't see the fine pattern of scratches on the front when the phone is turned on. Sometimes I clean the screen with a slightly damp towel, and if I rub hard it polishes out the scratches a bit.
Battery life is still good, I don't think it's diminished too much. Sony have always had good battery technology (apart from when they had exploding laptop batteries!).
Overall then my XZU has been a good phone and I've had good value out of it as I use it all the time - I don't have a tablet, I go straight for a laptop if I need to do proper work.
The XZU is my phone, ebook reader, email reader, news reader, podcast & music player, GPS mapper, instant messaging console (G hangouts), shopping assistant (checking prices in shops with barcode scanner), movie viewer (netflix), chromecast controller (netflix) and occasionally acts as a game console.
My backplate cracked so I used the extended warranty I bought with the phone to fix it.
Sony said they couldn't replace it because its discontinued so they bought out my warranty and phone for the total amount I paid. So I got a free ultra basically.
I fixed the backplate myself. I'd really like to fix the faux aluminum edges. They sell them online but u don't want to go in blind and dissect my phone.
Almost mint here (everything is perfect except that the screen ASF is shinning just a little less than the back one) after eight months. I have two cases, the plastic one I use 95% of the time and the Krusell leather book one that I only use when I think I need an extra protection.
USB protective flap
The Z Ultra has one of the best build qualities IMHO:good: . I do not have a scratch, paint job issue etc. Only problem I had after a year of use was the USB protective flap:crying:. Until it was ok, I used to wash the phone whenever it got dirty. Although the usb protective flap is available on ebay, I'm skeptical about opening, fearing it might lose the original build. If anyone has any ideas - please share.
I put screen protector on my replacement XZU when the one I purchased was replaced under warranty. Only problem is stuff building up in the cracks; dirt, dust, etc. builds up in the cracks of the body, and I HATE that. I also have the ? lens attachment case that I leave on all the time, where the two upper corners have cracked off.

I don't think you have to dissect your phone for the USB flap only.
Just buy a new one on eBay and replace it by fitting the string attached into its hole. ?
Edit: to stay in topic, my Ultra is a D1 unit, exchanged like one month later for another brand new under warranty, and it's been y daily driver since.
Paint have come off of 3 out of 4 corners, but other than that, the phone is pristine.
You should see my old GS3 (which now has my mother in law): all plastic-aluminum-painted edges are broken in several points, there's no paint on the on/off button anymore, plastic back cracked... ?
Overall, I'm super happy and my phone is still as elegant as was when I first opened the box. ?
My screen got hairline cracks twice. Sony repaired it free under the warranty. I also purchased 3 off ebay with cracked screens for under $100 each. I got them repaired through sony for free. $$$$

the usb flap is one easy replacemnt. just pull out the existing one neatly just a little pressure, make sure to hold the extension plastic that connects to the flap rather than the flap itself. When you get the replacement just insert the new replacement the same way you pulled out the old one:good:

I ordered the flap of eBay and replaced it as per your instructions. Jiffy - my ZU is back to being new. Thanks!
Have been using Z Ultra for almost 1.5 years now but this is my 3rd Ultra. First one was silver color and I used it for about a year and since the paint in the side had peeled off, sold it and bought Lumia 1520 but screen was not upto my satisfaction (Size-wise), so again bought Z ultra Black color. Unfortunately, within a week, my kid threw moto360 and it fell on the ZU screen, it cracked and touch is not working (Thank God, nothing happened to Moto360). I Checked with Sony as it was hardly a week old but since it was physical damage, they said it will cost around $200 to replace the screen
Instead of that, I went and bought a new one for around ˜ $250 during Christmas offer. It has slight scratches on the back as I dont like to use back protection while the front is in pristine condition. Eagerly waiting for p8Max/LeTV Max now, provided it is in my budget!

Thanks but wouldnt 'Sony' logo come off as well if I were to remove the plastic film?

Hey guys first time posting; Long time reader

I just wanted to let you guys know to be careful with the space under the screen the plastic can become nicked very easily... I found out the hard way when my phone slipped out of my hands at the movie theater . Does anyone know why its taking so long for Cases, Glass, Qi sticks, and Glass to come out?
I work for a technology company that buys in the channel and I was able to get my go-to UAG case for 12 dollars *Super Cheap I know* but, it won't be releasing until the 18th. I also noticed this is the theme for most V10 Accessories. I finally got a huge nar-nar case for 7 bucks on Ebay but let tell you I feel like I am back in the 80's right now with this phone! I'm honestly not a big fan of Spigen; and I can usually get 3-4 sets of glass for a couple of bucks; its not super strong but it does the job so I don't want to shell out 24 dollars for spigen premium glass.
So Yeah I guess this is a vent post but, also does anyone know when the offical Qi charging back is coming out? I have been sitting on hold for 35 minutes now with no answer from LG.
btw, I don't know if it was just me but, when I did an NFC transfer from my Samsung G5 to this phone it killed the performance and battery. I was better off with just a full reset and a manual load of apps and contacts.
Phones running great now though!
Thanks guys!
Check amazon for cases there are quite a few. You will more than likely lose the fingerprint lock unless you either notch a piece off of the case, or add aluminum foil. You need to touch the metal on the side of the phone in order for fingerprint scanning to work correctly.
Not sure about the wireless charging.
Oh, welcome back!
