TA-Partition Restored under 6.0 Update - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
So I had one tablet SGP771 that had a broken TA-Partition after unlocking bootloader and enabling My Xperia. After updating the tablet to 6.0 My Xperia asked for login etc, and it now works flawlessly without any issues to activate and deactivate. Is it now maybe a chance for all those who broke their TA-Partition to regain root status if an exploit is found in 6.0 kernel?
Also a sidequestion. I have the SGP712 version of this tablet as well, other one is my GF's after i broke it. But I have root on this, can I update to 6.0 after using AndroPlus kernel without losing root status?
Thanks in advance

The same here
You are my Hero, thank you so much.
I have unlocked the bootloader of my z4 (712) and didn't noticed that the TA and all DRM keys are getting lost on this action ("chief fast finger" strikes back again :crying: )
But then I read your posting and made an attempt. And what should I say; It seems to me that the DRM keys are back again. The Album Widget is working, TrackID works again. For me Emma made it; YMMV of course
Thanks so much:
denk_mal
BTW can someone tell me a way to find out a (nondestructive) way to find out if the keys are really there?

Try toggling the display enhancement options like X-Reality and see if they indeed change the display?

I have checked the service menu in the meantime and found out, that the DRM Key are gone
Service/Security shows:
Blobs: generic error!
HUK: generic error!
OTP_LOCK_STATUS : LOCKED
But I have official Android 6.0 MM now; This more than nothing

hai everyone..
i have z4tablet 771 aswell..
and my bootloader is unknown..
can i ask you where did you update it ?
via pc companion or via xfirm that can restore back your bootloader ?
thank you

I have used Emma from sony developers. (serach for "sony" and "emma") because PC Companion dosn't work on my unlocked Z4

[Solved]Help me delete data

Hey everybody,
I just got the x10 today and I've never hacked a Sony so I know nothing about it right now, so forgive my ignorance.
The phone was used and didn't come with a sim card. I've put 2 different sim cards in it that I know are good, but when I boot up it gives me a sim card error and only let's me make an emergency call.
I'm thinking that because his data is on it, it needs his sim card? I have always had cdma phones so sim cards are new to me also.
My question is... Is their a way to get into some kind of boot menu by a button combination at startup or something, where I can delete the phone data?
Any help is appreciated.
Edit... Phone is stock, not rooted, yet
Dude,it seems ur phone is sim locked and u can't use any sim card beside sim card ov network operator that locked ur phone.

How would that happen? The phone is legit, no outstanding bill on that account and its not stolen. Are you saying I need his sim card to unlock it so I can use another?
Just to give you more info, when the lockscreen comes up, it says "sim card is faulty" but if I hold power and select airplane mode, then turn off airplane mode, it let's me past the lockscreen and then I get a toast box that says "sim is not provisioned mm2"
The phone was on at&t when it was used. I don't have an at&t acct. For now I just want to learn about it and root/mod it. Maybe ill call at&t.
Might be another issue :
Some anti-theft antivirus programs are able to lock your phone for your sim-card only (to prevent using another sims when phone is stolen).
If its set as device-manager, it also cant be disabled (requires some password).
So, try to boot up your phone without SIM card ant check this first. If device-manager is not set, then your phone is surely simlocked.
Thanks for the reply, I've tried booting up without a sim card and it gives me an error that no sim is installed and will only let me make an emergency call.
I called at&t last night and the rep asked me to hold the menu + return buttons while pressing power and I should get an option to hard reset the phone. That didn't work so she patched me to Sony. They had me download Sony pc companion and sent me instructions to "repair" it.
He said it was 1 of 2 problems. It's a "software glitch" or a broken sim port.
If the repair won't fix it, ill have to send it in and for $185 they'll fix it (yeah right). When I get home ill try the pc companion. This phone is in mint condition and was fully working before the guy that gave it to me went to an iPhone.

Might be both - hardware malfunction or simple simlock. Personally expect simlock. My phone is not simlocked and when turned on it can run without sim card simply as PDA.
Try to flash your phone with generic WWE ROM and try again. Or before, check if phone doesnt have usb debugging on.
Afraid that no, but try to look with flashtool or adb (if yes, we can make full wipe within xrecovery)

If its sim locked then I'd think that I could use the previous owners sim to get into the system, right? Then how do I sim unlock?
I can't check for USB debugging because I can't get past the emergency call only screen.
I've got the pc companion downloaded on my working phone, when I get home I a couple of hours I'm gonna xfer it to the comp and run it, hopefully that'll fix it. If not, ill wait till Monday and get the previous owners sim and try that. If that doesn't work.... I'm gonna get the night vision goggles back that I traded for this phone, lol.
Running this phone without a sim is exactly what I want, just as a pda. How'd you do it, or better yet, what it called, sim unlocking? I can look for a guide, but I don't even know what its called. I feel really dumb about this phone, sorry bout that, if you came to the evo3d forum I could give you all the help you needed.

OK then If you want to use your phone as pda, without gsm or data connection, then the simpliest thing you can do is to flash stock generic ROM (you dont have to care about baseband and so on).
However you need to do a sim-unlock first because otherwise it will be still locked on the operator. Heart about many unlocking methods on websites, eg. this one (really expensive):
http://www.mobile-unlocker.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/rs2wp9/
Never tried (always buying phone without sim-lock).
What operator is your phone locked?
YOu probably have to google about your exact operator locked version, hopefully you will find unlocking code or online service for it.
BAM! I got it, thanks for all your help. I used the pc companion and chose repair, I lost all data but that's ok, I was gonna erase data anyway. When I boot up it still gives me a notif that the sim is not provisioned but I can still get into the system.
Time to start hacking away at this thing, I've got a lot to learn I'm sure. I downloaded flashtool and it says it'll root so I'm gonna try that. I'm open to any more help you can give out, you probably think that some of the easy stuff is common knowledge but even the smallest stuff will help me get started. I'm gonna start reading in the sticky section, thanks again for the replies.
Also, after the repair, I have a different lockscreen, it looks like an iPhone lock kinda. Before, I had the lock that went up and right on a curve kinda, how do I get back to that one?

Now i understand why you wasnt able to get into system without sim You were on old android 1.6 which was default OS when X10i was released. But there were two big software updates - 2.1 and last year our beloved 2.3.3.
Thats why you have different lockscreen. In 1.6 it was shaped like half-circle, in 2.3 its just a simple horizontal slide... But there is not any solution how to get this lockcreen back as I know. BTW.: Also liked the old one lockcreen

Ok, I'm starting to get it now... My system info says
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband 2.1.65
Kernel 2.6.29
So far I've rooted, installed xrecovery and unlocked the bl. All the roms I've looked at say I need a higher baseband to use that rom. Can I use the pc companion to update to 2.3.3, and is it gonna cause an issue since I have a custom recovery and unlocked bl? The reason I ask is because on an LG I had, it would brick if you did an official update with a custom recovery.

Ohh, branded phones are really loosers It seems that your version wasnt updated to 2.3.3, on which are based all roms for X10i and X10a.

I recommend you to use Flashtool intead There are problems to get the ftf file with generic ROM, which also includes .71 baseband which is surely needed for any custom ROM. But I think this is simplier solution. If you want active link to FTF bundle I will post it (also with guide, already wrote it for another users).
You can also use PC Companion, and it surely dont affect your phone in any way. If you rooted it and installed xrecovery its surely not problem (I performed this once on my device). Dont know about unlocked bootloader (dont have it and dont want to have it ), but think thats also not problem.
You can brick X10i only if you flash kernel and something unexpected happens (cable unplug etc...).
Wow, 200th post - will celebrate my anniversary

Got it, I installed DiXpreia 7 'avenger' using xrec for Rom and flashtool for the ftf file. wow, what a difference in graphics, this is cool.
I appreciate all the time you've spent on me. Congrats on the 200th, I'm helping you stack up some thanks' too
One last thing, what's the benifit of an unlocked bl? And would it benifit me to unbrand since I have a custom Rom?

For unlocked bootloader there is only one main benefit. You can flash any custom kernel directly. On locked bootloader you can also use custom kernel, but it uses "bypass" method - once stock kernel is loaded, special init script gives the control to custom kernel and then custom kernel is loaded. This is 100% safe for noobs and also devs (I was doing some kernelt tweaks, thats why I am on locked - if I do unloadable kernel and flash it on unlocked device... It will be bricked ). But it takes about 2x time to load the system on reboot, because you need to load two kernels instead just one. If you unlock your bootloader, you can overwrite stock kernel with custom one. And when device it powered on, custom kernel is loaded directly and loads faster then by "bypass" method. Another "benefit" is that all of CyanogenMod ROMs requires unlocked bootloader
Unlocked bootloader doesnt affect your "brand", it wont remove it. As wrote before, you need some service which offers unlocking codes or I saw saome tutorials on youtube (give a search ).
But think this is a little nonsense if you want to use your phone as PDA. "Branding" affects only gsm network and 3G data, so you cant use these features without SIM.
Thanks for the info on the locked/unlocked bl.
Now for another question. Let's say I install a Rom and kernel combo that aren't compatible, you said it'll brick. Will that be a hard/permanent brick or could I just use the pc companion and repair it.

On locked bl you can everytime use Flashtool or PC Companion to reapir your phone.
On unlocked mostly too. BUT, as told you. Only if you flash loader or kernel badly (bad cable, unexpected power shutdown etc.) you cant repair your phone with any software. Or, to be perfectionist You can unbrick it, using the "JTAG" connector with some "JIG" box. These hardware are hard to buy, its highly specialized devices and costs about 200€ or even more... With these tools you can unbrick any device everytime, even with damaged system ROM, or unloadable kernel. It will simply overwrite the whole NAND adress by adress, byte by byte with standart system image.
You can also use some high-level services which are equipped with this hw and could do it for you. But its also expensive.BTW. thats why I am thinking about to buy JIG box perosnally

Seems Bricked :)

Hi Guys,
My xperia mini pro was acting kinda wierd lately with the phone getting stuck while using the slider keyboard. This went on for a day and then the speaker on the phone stopped working and i was forced to use the headset for all calls. Then the very next day, the display went off completely. I have not rooted the phone and its on stock OS. Bootloader is locked too.
I used the search option and found this link which almost completely explains my issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918271
Did as told there, SUS did find my phone and i could reinstall the OS, but it still didnt bring back the display.
So i m off to service center to get the flex cable changed.. :good: wonder y they make this thing so, if the cable damage is almost certain.
My q. is can i unlock my bootloader once the phone arrives from service? I am on 11W49. Had seen a similar thread saying anything after 11w29+ will brick the phone, but it was for Xperia X8. I am using the Xperia mini pro, will it brick the phone? i wanted to load MiUi on it
Unlock it using the official method by sony and it won't brick
If you want to know how to do this, read my guide on how to unlock the bootloader
Sent from my Nexus 4 running Android 4.3
Thanks mihahn,
Will do it once i get it back from service.
The issue of hard bricking would be applicable to X8 alone i suppose.
U can also try unlock it using test poin method. My XMP is 12W07 and everything went fine. But U must be sure, that in service menu under rooting status is Bootloader unlock allowed: yes Otherwise U won't be able to unlock bootloader for free

[Q] importance of DRM keys

hi, i am totally new to rooting. my phone is sony Xperia Mk16i with rooting status - Bootloader unlock status: Yes. the ROM is factory installed 2.3.4.
i was checking this forum and noticed the test point method of rooting which allows to maintain the DRM keys. i do not purchase any songs or videos online neither do i use the trackID app of my phone. is there any other reason to save the DRM keys other than the ones mentioned?
i noticed a thread in another forum where someone was complaining about not being able to use camera after rooting without saving the DRM keys.
i would also like to know if there is any method of rooting the phone without unlocking the bootloader. the main reason i want to root my phone is to increase its internal memory and be able to use the USB OTG option in my phone which is locked.
i am trying this after expiry of the warranty period and seriously can't afford to brick my phone.
any help or answers will be much appreciated.
thank you

Rooting Status: Unknown

Can anyone provide the TA partition for the device? (Not sure if it can be used from other device)
Have the rooting status as unknown after official bootloader unlock. Flashtool relock not working and neither does flashing the stock software seem to help. Fastboot keeps saying command not allowed to everything.
Any ideas welcome.
hello i have same problem. did you find the solution for this problem ?
Not as of yet, Sony support responded to wait for next release, which apparently is supposed to have some fix to it, maybe.
any progress bro ?
because .260 is rolling out
beware of MyXperia!
Disable MyXperia before unlocking the bootloader!
It is in the SONY documentation (maybe you did not read it and just clicked it away).
Do not EVER enable MyXperia again after unlocking the bootloader. You will brick your device.
TA partition is lost for unlocked bootloader. No known way to recover it or to backup it before unlocking with Lollipop only devices.
Content of TA partition is device specific.
@DHGE are there any solution for this problem ? I already update to latest is by the xfirm and flashtools but my rooting status still unknown and when I start my tablet for the first boot I unchecked everything that have Xperia sign..

You need to send it in to SONY for repair.
Maybe they swap the board or can do some flash magic.
This will be no warranty repair.

FAILED (remote: Command not allowed) flashing recovery or boot img

Hi,
I made a different thread to find a solution about this error I got when I try to flash the Androkernel boot.im and TWRP recovery on my UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER Z4 712 wifi european tablet.
I updated with the Sony PC Companion tool, I DID NOT turn ofn the MySony Security (that was THE problem that caused this error last time), and bootloader is still unlocked (checked with Sony Mobile Flasher).
The service mode say "root:unknow", in previous tablets/room it should say "bootloader locked or unlocked", but I'm not sure.
That's what I got when I tri to flash boot.img:

First of all it's not polite to create new thread in android development part. Here should be only roms, fixes, patches recoveries. Not q&a threads.
As to your problem, are you sure that you've unlocked bootloader? In service menu you should see
"Rooting status:
Boot loader unlocked: Yes"
if you doesn't see it, it means you haven't unlocked it or unlocking is not allowed on your device.

Hi,
I think the problem is here if you enable myXperia before or after unlocking the bootloader ( can be @AndroPlus can explain better the problem ?)
Verify that your USB drivers for fastboot and adb are correcctly installed (install the USB drivers provided with Flashtool)
I hope you can root your tablet again :good:
I'm very sorry if I opened the thread here, feel free to close or move it, but I found it related the modding and , actually, in installing the androplus kernel.
As I said I did not turn on the sony security nor befor nor after, root status is "unknown", Flas Tool say is't unlocked, I already flashed the androkernel before and the problem was the MySony security, but now I know I don't have to turn it on.
Drivers are Ok, I flashed the new rom with Flash tool and then with Sony Companion.
Anyhow, if I'm bothering with this thread pleas close it, al try again and again
I think it's okey moderators will move the thread over.
Did you unlock your tablet by flashtool or follow official Sony instructions?
Do you have myxperia app installed?
Have you got factory reset after unlocking?

First of all, I don't really understand how he was able to update something via pc companion with unlocked bootloader?
No ota update, nor update via pc companion is available after unlocking.
DHGE will we have the same? I mean when android MM will be released, we flash it and will it be with myxperia? And if we launch it by accident we break our tablet, right? In this case, how to remove it, factory reset?

I read about a guy thoblem because after updating with Companion bootloader was relocked, he unlocked again and so.
Anyhow,I just NOT UPDATED, but RESTORE/REFRESH the firmware flashed with Flashbout a bad flash with Flashtool. Immediately after the flash with compsnion, even without turning on the phone, I try and I got the same FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)

I even relocked and reunlocked bootloader with Flashtool (didn't even know it's possible to relocked...).Thi lost :-/
UPDATE: I found that myxperia was administrator even if I didn't turn it on, so I remove from administrators, but....same problem
Maybe it's better to try to unlock bootloader again following official Sony instructions, not flashtool? WITH flashtool unlocking, you haven't got a factory reset, that's the reason of all your problems IMHO.
After unlocking my xperia must disappear.

SONY thinks MyXperia is a useful feature security wise and I agree. It is just not for me since it prevents my tampering with the device.
I am sure it will be in MM.
You have to launch it explicitly on setup! SONY warns in the bootloader instructions to activate it after unlocking.
Once activated after unlocking the tablet is bricked. End of discussion, beaten to death in the xperia fora....
If a factory reset could revive the devices this would be no security feature but rather an annoyance for thieves.

I completely agree with what @DHGE said this is a no sense if a thief can reset the tablet with a factory reset once MyXperia has been activated. MyXepria operates at a low level, also be able to deactivate it easily is not possible.

Oh my God.I haven't known it. http://fxpblog.co/2015/07/03/dont-destroy-your-unlocked-device.html poor people. Indeed, with unlocked bootloader and enabled myxperia, people get tea-tray instead of working device. And it's unrecoverable.
If nevertheless icon of my xperia will appear in a menu of new MM. Can I delete it with some kind of system-app-uninstaller ?
Edit 1. This damned app was in my system, so I used "Uninstall" app and remove my xperia, wiped dalvik and cash.
I strongly recommend it everybody to keep your device safe and don't worry incidental pressing.Better delete it!!!
I activated myxperia with unlockebootloader and I have no problem, can't be able to unactivate it, when I reflash the ro if activate it or not and I can remove administrator priviledge in security section.
If I clickif I want to turn it on and sony says that "if turned on"repair the firmware but will be "unusable" till you imput your google account saved for the my'm UNLOCKED I try turning on myxperia a few days ago to an disable it later (no ways, my xperia has only a blank page without settings), then I reflashed 2 times and both time it asked me if I to turn on the myxperia.I even try with flashtools to chek the bootloader, relock and reunlock and everything wly problem is flashing things via fastboot!
