Otherwise follow these steps if your factory reset fails through app
Caution - You will loose all your data and user installed apps
Switch off the phone
Wait for 10 seconds
Press volume up and power button and hold until it vibrates
select factory reset
confirm factory reset and wait until process completes
restart your phone
and thank me if it worked for you

[Q] Can't Unroot

Software v1.4.0
Root messed up in middle of running nookandzergy.bat. Got to the part where it says GG Rooted or whatever and it wouldn't go past that (I allowed ample time for reboot of device also). Apparently it thinks it's rooted but gapps and launcher weren't installed. I tried doing the 1 click unroot, the zip file to sd card, nomoarzergys, erase/restore and failed boot restore multiple times and it still seems to think i have a root on the tablet
When I try 1 click unroot it wont let me run it as a superuser and I get a could not echojava.lo.ioexception: error running exec(). Command: [su] working Directory: null environment: null error
When I try nomoarzergys I get error: device not found rooting to unroot! error: device not found
Any help would be appreciated.
I have read that the failed boot has to function correctly 8 times in a row to work take you back to stock. Did you go that many times. I'm interested as mine is under the tree and rooting is the first thing I will do.

This is correct. The 9th boot it will automatically go into a full reset mode. You have to release the n button on that time round too.
if failed boot restore doesnt work, manually download and install super user apk and then use unroot app.

+1 on using the 9th boot method. Other unrooting strats did not work for me.
Additionally, if you followed Indirect's rooting directions, make sure you have the updated rooting script file.

Mine did a factory restore after 2 failed boots. Assuming I'm doing it correctly. Powered off then upon restart I held power and home to turn off and then it asks me if i would like to restore. It is still recognized as being rooted though.

Upon restore I can get the rooting script to re-root the nook but super user apk doesn't work. I even tried deleting super user and reinstalling and every time I try the unroot.apk i dont have an option to run as super user.
I have tried the unroot script also but it doesnt detect a root installation.
sounds like you never rooted then. Make sure when you tried to run the root process, you actually extracted the files and ran them in the location you extracted them to

It was likely the data wipe, because the factory restore doesn't kick in until 9th or 10th forced reset/boot interrupt. I'd try again for the restore.

Well, I know it was rooted bc I was using adw launcher and was able to install the unroot.apk

You're right, I see that now, finally got the factory restore. Going from there to try to asses whether or not the root is still on there.

After a factory restore, root is gone. You have to start over for the root process, and customizing/loading apps. Just pretend you opened it up out of the packaging brand new, and go from there.
Rooting was successful, tested unroot.apk just to make sure superuser permissions worked and it did. I'm good to go.
Thanks for the help guys, miniblue my confusion about factory restore was that I kept getting a prompt to restore after doing the boot process kill 2 or 3 times and I was doing that instead of going to 8 boot process kills and letting it automatically do a factory restore.

Yeah, the data wipe, which I've been calling a factory reset, only clears user data and deregisters the device. A factory restore basically fixes most problems short of messing with the hardware itself.

Help with problems after JB Update

Hey all used this guide to upgrade stock jellybean,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909819
Worked brilliantly and then got above my skill level when removing some bloatware, normally i copy the apks i remove however this time i pressed delete by mistake, now have huge issues with play store and other apps. I have deleted too many apks
Have tried installing google apks again but still no joy. Does any one know of a way i can install JB again to start afresh i did try downgrading as per the guide but that didnt actually remove the JB firmware. I feel although even with huge amounts of help from flumpster (many thanks) we arnt cracking it so a fresh install is prob best, i just hope someone knows how to.
Thanks in advance.

I would assume you can do a factory reset. With the until off, press and hold vol dwn, then press and hold the pwr button for a few seconds, release the pwr button but continue to hold vol dwn, then release when the bootloader is displayed, from there you should have an option to Wipe Data (Factory Reset).

Well there are still options. If you had USB debugging enabled in developer options you can still adb stuff to the device. If you don't as a last resort you could unlock the bootloader and install it as a custom rom. Also as you are not unlocked at all asus would probably accept it as an rma under warranty.

You need to have the adb files on your computer. Open a command prompt where adb files are by holding down shift and right clicking on the folder adb is in and selecting open command prompt here. Then type adb devices into command window.
if you get waiting check in your device manager to see if you have any devices with explanation marks on it. If there are then install naked drivers from the top of developer section.

[Q] Back to stock

Good night everyone I wanna return to stock my optimus g I used lgnpst but the phone freeze in AT&T logo if somebody help me that will be great
Sorry for my bad english its not my language Im still learning
Instructions say if it freezes at boot, then you have to let it restore to 100%, not just at the 68% when phone reboots.
Or you can just flash a nandroid, unless you want to remove toot and relock it? I have a TWRP nandroid of OTA I might be able to upload, its a big file.

thanks for helping me i have a nandroid but TWRP doesnt restore it always says failed if you can upload your nandroid that will be great , by the way wich version of TWRP do you use

Doing a factory reset when it hangs on boot after lgnpst usually works. It will wipe your though, any apps, photos, music, etc you have stored there. If you want try that power off phone then press volume down and power and hold both. It may take a few tries but a menu will come up for reset.

To expand on what to expect if you use stock/factory recovery. When wiping data/factory reset from stock recovery (vol down + pwr), you will just get a black & white ATT screen with factory reset/wipe data being your only option. Press volume up or down to exit or pwr button to wipe/restore.

[Q] Phone won't turn on

Hey,
I have a Galaxy Note I717M under bell, running complete stock, and recently, it just decided it doesn't want to turn on anymore.
I can still access download mode and recovery mode, but when I try to boot into system I get stuck at the samsung logo.
Is my phone soft bricked? Am I able to flash a new rom and move on? If so, am I able to recover all my data that's currently on the phone?
Thanks in advance!

SMS failure after root with Magisk

Hello,
maybe someone would be able to help or explain. Running on 9.1.0.215 (but tried with 9.1.0.210 as well), after I try to root with Magisk (=flash patched recovery_ramdisk), my SMS stop working. I've tried more applications (default 'Messaging', Google 'Messages', also Facebook 'Messenger') but no chance, phone is not able to receive or create any SMS messages. However, everything else is working fine.
I'm pretty sure that it's caused by this activity, because when I flash back original RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img, SMS are back again.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I really like to use Magisk, but unfortunately, it's no go without SMS.
Thanks!
1. Flash stock recovery_ramdisk. (If you already flash magisk patched ramdisk). Stock recovery is needed to factory reset.
2. back up your data.
3. reboot to recovery. Perform factory reset
4. Power off device. Hold volume down, plug usb to boot to bootloader.
5. flash magisk patched recovery ramdisk
6. Reboot by holding power + volume up button.
7. Done

Thanks for hint!
Doing factory reset isn't exactly one's wish, but if there is no other choice I will definitely give it a try. Speaking of backup/restore of apps - can you please give me a hint, what could be the most comfortable way of doing that? I do not care about data - that is easy to backup/restore - but is there any simple way how to avoid manual re-installation of all apps after restore?
Thanks again!

When you go through the setup it should suggest it if you've backed up to drive. Otherwise use titanium backup. It saves the apks and works with root

I unlocked my bootloader last year, when you could get the unlock code from their website. Unlocking your bootloader on Pie with one of those codes should still work.
I don't know, if other unlocking method like dc-unlocker or funkyhuawei will work. Sry

Thank youuuuuu this worked perfectly for me. I had to change the directory name from user to user_de, but once I did that, it was perfect And I didn't even lose my text messages
Oh no This solution worked, but after doing it, I no longer have access to 4G/LTE on my phone. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there a fix for this?
