Locked bootloader means no development. So.....
I guess its over for us unless the t-mobile unlock once released somehow works for us too. What a shame I doubt the t-mobile unlock will work as it would likely be for that variant only. Im done with Samsung
That's why I signed the t-mobile petition, and started one for Sprint. We need to pressure samsung on all fronts!

Oh yeah if you call Samsung ask for advanced tech support right out of the gate the people that first answer are not that aware of what a bootloader is. They always think that its about rooting even though similar they are very very different. Check this link out this one guy is claiming that rooting works.

I am not 100 percent sure but I bet the ceo gets Samsung to do it. I am only speculating at this point. I'm hopeful but just look at samsungs history with certain carriers. What we need is a way to sign a modified firmware with sammys keys but that would be nearly impossible.
If t-mobile gets n unlock method, I'm sure we will. Seeing as the hardware is the same, if we don't get one, one the awesome development here will find a way to make it work.

Someone should try it. To unlock the bootloader under development options. And try to root using kingroot? Btw what is OEM unlock?
Sent from my SM-G930P using XDA Free mobile app
Kingroot doesn't work. OEM lock is basically reactivation lock.

Metal, what bad stuff besides possibly tripping knox would turning on OEM unlock and trying to root might happen? I guess this is like asking when the white rabbit is going to show up.

Metal have you seen the chainfire thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/sm-g930-exynos-cf-auto-root-t3337353
OEM unlock won't trip knox, Chainfire root will just fail and nothing will change. If we eventually get unlocked bootloaders, then yes, normal rooting will trip Knox and disable samsung pay.
Is it possible to flash say a stock image T-Mobile firmware on a Sprint variant (or any other US variant given that inside they are all the same device)?

I don't believe there is a way since AT&T locks all that stuff out. you could try calling AT&T and tell them you are going overseas and they can probably get you the unlock code.

Used the above unlockcode247dotcom. Took a little under 24 hrs on a sunday into monday evening. Watched a you tube video on the unlocking procedure, and super easy. $21. Cheapest unlock I found. Average is $30.
1. power off your phone and put in an unaccepted sim card. 2. power up your phone. 3. you will get the unlock screen. Put in your unlock code, hit unlock, and you should hopefully get the toast message of a successful unlock.
Cheers! :highfive:
Thank you 52m252 Great recommendation.

As far as I'm aware, the Sprint Mega, like many Sprint devices, are strictly CDMA. The only exception I can think of is Crapple products which can be GSM unlocked with something called a GEVEY SIM which in my experience isn't exactly reliable. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the SIM card in most Sprint devices only controls the 4G LTE so it's sorta GSM but not really. My suggestion would be to look into getting the phones "flashed", or reprogrammed for another carrier. Here in my locality flashing CDMA devices to nTelos is extremely popular, as they have a $45 unlimited everything plan with no real data cap. They simply do a SLIGHT throttle after around 15GB. There are several other CDMA prepaid companies across the US. The only nationwide ones I can think of are Pageplus, Selectel, and maybe Straight Talk. All offer low cost unlimited plans. Some have data caps and throttling, but pretty good bang for the buck! Should you decide to try and flash for yourself, Wireless Workshop offers a "trial" account, if you can provide any kind of company information. We use them at our store and they can flash pretty much any major handset. All said and done, look into flashing those to a prepaid carrier, as these are AWESOME phones. Good luck!

Dude don't go telling everyone about how Sprint phones are strictly cdma. Im tired of people on these forums spreading misinformation. This is not the year 2008. Back then all Sprint phones were strictly cdma. Not so today and yes the Sprint mega has gsm capability. It's even listed in the settings, but is greyed out. So the Sprint galaxy s4 is strictly cdma too? Lol go do your homework.

"as far as I'm aware"
I was simply offering what I did/did not know for sure, and some information for a way to take it to another carrier that I DO know about. For one, I've never had a fully operational Mega in my hand to see that it offered a greyed out GSM menu in the settings. My bad, dude. :good:
In fact, I'm trying to resurrect one right now. Software is totally borked.
Anyway, good luck figuring out the GSM unlock!

I successfully unlocked the Mega to work on T-Mobile as well as the Sprint Note 3, Sprint Note 2 and Sprint S5
I'm working on making a program to UICC unlock the device without having to call Sprint to get it internationally unlocked, I also have a program that will open the service menu option to reprogram the phone if you cannot reach it through dialer codes.
Quite simple once you get the whole process down.

Idk but this bump stuff seemed sketchy since the beginning
The bumped site went down because someone reverse engineered it and released on their own - making the site unnecessary since it can be done locally on a machine, but making it all but certain that devices upgraded to factory lollipop and beyond will be locked down tight.

I saw an article that said most Android phones can be legally rooted, but is this phone one of those phones where it is legal to root?
You can do whatever you like with your phone, rooting is not illegal, but if you brick it, don't expect any sympathy from Verizon or from your insurance provider

Might be good to point out. Technically you can root any phone legally, off contract or with permission of carrier if on contract.
i think in the US rooting/jailbreaking is entirely legal (as long as you're not pirating anything lol)

TBH I don't think anyone cares. Either it doesn't cost the carrier any extra money, meaning you didn't screw it up, or they get more money, if you screw it up you have to pay full price for a new one. Either way they win.

The only thing i can think of is if you unlock it and install a custom recovery have someone with the same variant make a dummy google account flash from that backup remove the dummy account and add your wifes.im not sure if it will work 100% but thats the only thing i can think of.i have the us997 version or i would do it for you
I believe u can factory reset and then try again.
You're best bet is re-flashing the software with the LGup I think that's what its called.
There's no chance reflashing stock firmware, it's safety boot, even with root is not possible. Maybe some bypasses based on Usb OTG like some Samsung Phones could work.
Got it worked out. The original owner called me and let me sign in with his name. Added my account the deleted his. Then did a factory reset and all is well.
