Has anyone successfully upgraded to the latest while maintaining root? Still on 5.0.2 925a ping-pong root and would like to keep root, giving up root is not an option. I'm guessing not possible but I'm hoping I'm wrong.
Thanka
Just search for root for your model number on marshmallow. If it exists you'll be able to unroot update and reroot. If nor then you will have to wait

You have a link? 925a has a locked boot loader so going to 5.1.1 was a problem back than and I'm not sure on 6.0.1 that is why I asked. If you have a link post it. Thanks

The exploit doesn't work with 6.0.1. Since you have a locked bootloader, you will not be able to root.
Thanks for the confirmation, that is what i suspected.

Ok, so after waiting a couple of weeks for an update from Bell since Sony released the firmware, I've decided to take the updating process into my own hands. Coming from a Nexus 4, waiting for updates is something that kind of frustrates me, so here is my questions:
I understand that the model bell has is the c6806. Now, will I run into problems trying to flash the stock Sony firmware from Bell's bloatwared up edition? Also, do I need a custom recovery, or can I keep stock? I really don't want to unlock my bootloader because it's taken me ages to download all the software and files I wanted... unless I do a backup, I suppose.

I also have a Z ultra from Bell and I updated manually following these instructions without issue. Just download the FTF from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921. Pick model C6806 GENERIC US.
Then follow these instructions to flash using "Flashtools" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428319
You don't need to download the XZU device folder because it's already incliuded in the new installation.
You don't need to unlock bootloader since it's from Sony but you won't be able to root your device and you will lost all your data. Except if you uncheck "Wipe Data" in Flashtools software, be it may decrease stability.
Hope this help.

OMG WAIT DON'T UPGRADE YET. I need your FTF files, because I want to downgrade to 4.2.2, I need root for everything, like my PS3 Controller for touch emulation, to get rid of the navigation bar etc etc.
So please can you extract your FTF files from your Bell Device and send it to me !!!! PLEASE !!!!!

Forget about what I said, I fixed it and BTW I just received the .290 via OTA, so you should have it now !!

LOL
Did you tried to keep root with supersu survival mode? And if so, did it work?
After hearing fo all the problems the .290 update brings (seemingly,) I think I will wait for kitkat. 4.3 jellybean isn't enough of an upgrade to justify the issues it will bring, or to lose root. KitKat definitely will be, though.
OTA failed lol

Meh, I tried but OTA failed installing each time. It fails at the begin of the install, phone reboots and tells me that it could not install the update. Probably because I have Dual Recovery and I debloated the rom ...... Oh well ... loll I'll probably try a factory reset and try the OTA again. I mean I have a nand backup anyway
I'll keep you posted

Ok I tried a factory reset and it didn't work either, the progress bar reach near middle than it reboots. I bought the app for OTA survival but can't test it cauz I can't OTA ..... still trying to figure it out.

Do you have any idea how to know the revision and CDMA code the update is looking for !?

.532?
That OTA is for .257 then. That is 4.2 Not 4.3.
You could find it in BASKOU his CDMA thread. But really doesn't matter which CDMA you use. As long it is matching. The excellent guide from Lord can also help you further. You should defenitly have a look overthere.
Hum I'm positive that it's 4.3 take a look. I'm gonna take a look at his thread thanks

Yeah, that's 4.3 Surpises me that you can update straight from 4.1 to 4.3. But thinking it over, it makes sense.

Oddly enough, I have yet to get the ota for 4.3. Been checking multiple times a day. Hopefully I don't run into issues, since I did root/ Detroit.
I received the ota because my cda product Id was changed when I flashed the Us retail. 532 so that's why you didn't receive it the build.prop you send me wasn't the same as what I had.

OTA is live, I however failed to update mine. Guessing it has to do with me debloating :/ Anyone know of a workaround?
EDIT: PC companion worked! If you run into the same issue, just use your PC
There are a few things I really don't understand. I have a UK sim free alpha on 4.4.4 which is being used in Portugal. I've seen lots of people with 5.0.2, but the update doesn't show on my phone, OTA nor via KIES. Does someone knows why this is happening?
Thanks
May be because you're using a UK varient in Portugal?
Or you modified your phone? Root? Custom recovery? This also prevents OTA...
---------- Post added at 20:11 ---------- Previous post was at 20:09 ----------
You can also flash 5.0.2 via Odin, so you don't have to wait for the update to show up...(your KNOX will not be triggered using Odin to flash original firmware)
Anyway to install TWRP without having to unlock bootloader, and if so, can you flash custom roms with this or unlock bootloader?
NO!!!

Yes, the unrooted TOT file is in the tung kick thread, but if you want to unrooted to MM I have a 6.0.1 KDZ for lgh90021w on the at&t general thread named h90021w extract which will have the kdz.
I'm trying to get unroot on Lollipop. Then I will OTA to MM.

Might there be anyone here able and willing to update my stock G3 to Nougat, or at least Marshmallow, for a fee of course? I'm intimidated by the process as described here.
Look forward to any replies.

I have ZVF. I have no idea what the "going rate" would be. Can't imagine it would take more than an hour of an experts time.

took me like 30 min to go from bricked to zva to nougat.
doesn't matter what FW you are on, just flash the ZVA TOT and then root using oneclick then install twrp with flashify or dd commands via adb shell and flash rom of choice.

missed that part lol....a lot of people suggest to just got to ZVA to root tho...i personally don't see why when the ZVC method works perfectly
I was on ZVF when I rooted too. Here's what I did:
1. Root LS990 ZVF Via Lg one click tool
2. Flashed TWRP via TWRP Manager from play store (make sure you flash the TWRP for LS990)
3. Flashed marshmallow ROM and Gapps
That's pretty much it it didn't take long to complete that whole process
Local or by mail - either way.

Best case would be in the NW Tucson area, but I was assuming it would have to mailed somewhere in the USA.
Saw this posted from our friends on Reddit. The AT&T leaked Oreo is still on binary 4. Hopefully, everyone updates when it officially drops.

Att hasn't switched to 5 yet the latest firmware is still 4 , I went from u firmware to att and sideload the oreo update still in bootloader 4 so I am able to go back to other firmware with ease ,but no root for oero so far the eng boot img doesn't work on oreo and haven't seen one yet , also there is no OEM unlock in dev options as we may still never get an unlocked bootloader with the two step boot that I've read oero has but the oreo firmware is nice seems like s8 though and Bixby is working ,but I would wait on official firmware ,so var sprint and Verizon are locking bootloaders so we can't switch carriers which we legal can do , so I'm assuming other companies are to follow
