question about butons - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, I don't know if I should post this in other subforum, probably yes, but I don't know where so here I go.
I was wondering if there is any way to assign to a fisical butom this specific action, I would love if I could mark as "Liked" or add to a playlist a song in poweramp(or any other player) with the screen off holding volume down(or any other buttom). The thing is that I have tons of music, and I mostly listen it when in my bike, so I cant pull the phone out of my pocket to check wich song I liked, to skip tracks I press volume up in Temaseks CM13 and its quite usefull. I checked online and I cant find anything related so I asume its not posible but maybe you know a way.
Thank you in advance and sorry for my 5 year old english

[REQUEST] very simple app (prob simple to code :))

basically, i would like a hold button that doesnt shut the screen off, for when im watching movies, but a universal hold would be better than just an application as i also watch tv/ streaming online, not just in a video player!
for the euro, and now canadian hero, i think most people would be okay with maybe volume up and down at the same time? honestly i dont care which buttons you use i would just really appreciate it!
thanks in advance!
Did you search Market for this type of app?
If so you will find Screen On, KeepScreen, Toggle Screen Timeout, ScreenModeWidget... and probably some more.
lol first of all, there are like tons of these apps in the market, and second:
could you please tell me how you want to press volume UP and DOWN at the same time, when they are a rocker button?
these days you should think people know they can embarass themselfes on the internet... someone should put up a sign...
Oooh, narky, I can't believe people would embarass themselfes on the internet either, where's that sign again?

only one 'embarass' himself is you, i just pressed both buttons at the same time
ahah on my hero it is very easy to hit up and down at the same time...
i guess my searching skills suck as i searched "lock" and "hold" and got nothing
after checking those apps out, i see that they actually don't do what i need!
Now after feeling like an idiot, i feel like my request stands.
im NOT talking about the sleep.
to re phrase - i want a prog that allows the end button to be hit without turning the screen off!
now i know there is prob this out there so someone tell me what to search as i cannot find it!
edit #3
i want to be able to watch a movie, and be able to press any button/ anywhere on the screen without anything happening! (maybe volume buttons as an exception)

How to skip track without usting the touchscreen?

Hey
First of all, I'm new here so I'm not sure whether this is even the right forum to post this question but posting in the Development forum seems like madness.
Ever since I got my HTC hero the fact that you have to take out the phone, unlock the screen and press "next" to change music tracks annoys me immensely. This would be much easier if you could just hold down the volume button for one second to get to the next track, something my old Sony Ericsson c902 did.
I've searched high and low to find an app or a tweak that did this but without any success. Am I overlooking something or is there sadly no such option?
Don't think so.the easiest way to change track is via the lock screen.
If you are using the standard headphones that came with the Hero just press the buttons at the top or bottom of small black tube that is where the wires for each earpiece separate. One skips forwards to next track and one backwards to start of existing, or if you press it twice the previous track.

What do I need to do to use volume buttons to skip to the next music track?

Hi,
I really, really miss the function of being able to skip to the next track by holding down the volume buttons, like on my blackberry, so I don't have to take the phone out of my pocket, wake it up, unlock screen, and manually press the "next" button just to skip to the next track (I am the type of person that skips tracks often, and do not like playlists).
Since I use custom in ear monitors, I don't have the remote on the earphone like the stock earphones do.
On the web, someone mentioned that all I have to do is root the phone, and install an app such as buttonremapper, and then I will be able to remap the volume button to act as a music track skipper when being long pressed.
Is this true? I much rather not flash to another rom.
Thank you soooo much!
Cyanogenmod has this functionality. Currently, nothing other than Cyanogen will do what you want.
If you want to keep stock ROM though, your only choice is PlayerPro. It has a lockscreen widget that lets you use the volume buttons to skip tracks when the device is locked.
Ah, thank you for your reply! I had actually used Player Pro when I first gotten my SG2, but switched to Poweramp because of the better EQ.
I have downloaded Player Pro again, and the skip song function works great. I just wish it works while the screen is on, and works with widgetlocker instead of its own locker. But I know I can't have everything.
Thank you again.
No problem. Latest version of PlayerPro also introduced a shake to skip songs feature, so you can use that to skip songs while another app is active. I tried it and it works.
Once again, thank you so much aydc! You have solved my problem! I will give the shake and bake a try, I just hope people don't think I am weird when they see my hand shaking/baking around in my pocket..
I LOVE this phone! (other then no led notification, and no default music skipping via volume button )

Change songs with headphones??

Just wondering if there's a way to change songs using the headphones you get with the s3? Or if there's an app that let's you do it?
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
if you got original headphone, then you'll find that there's 3 button..
volume up, volume down, then the "other button"..
if you press the "other button" once, the music will paused or started..
Just make sure u pressed it twice to change the song..
Check out Jays Headset Control in the Play Store.
Its meant for single button configurations, but it works perfect to with my 2 (or 3) button configuration S3 supplied earphones
(edit) note that stock works too. but the app gives more options like prev track
Ahhhh thanks guys!
Exorcist I kind of feel stupid Haha so simple!! Was bugging me big time

I wasnt aware of that app, thanks
I couldn't get any of the marketplace apps to override the headset +/- buttons from acting as volume buttons, but have now worked out how to simply remap them to act as track controls, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28752382#post28752382

See my post two above yours for a fairly easy DIY fix, should work in any ROM I'd have thought.

Thanks for answer me but, is not working, I did everything you say in that post, but I can`t make them work I see the whole Generic.kl from my original stock rom that doesn`t have problems changing to the next track o pause etc., and it is the same Generic.kl, I don`t know what is happening, is a really weird issue.

On the use of physical buttons and long press features

Hello guys!
I have several things in mind, and a few questions. Hope this is the right place to post.
First of all: why are all the smartphones makers getting rid of physical buttons? I don't see any good thing about those tactile buttons we have on the Galaxy S3 for instance: you press the "back" button by mistake all the time, and you have to turn your screen on to be able to use them.
How do you do when you're doing some sports or just walking down the street and simply press a button in your pocket to skip a track you're listening to?
Secondly: I thought there was a kind of rule about how to use the long press function on volume buttons. In my mind, it's clear that a long press on Volume Up will skip to the next track, and a long press on Volume Down will skip to the previous track. How disappointed I was when I discovered it was not the case on the Galaxy S3!
Is there a simple way to have this working (no custom ROM, no super complicated hacking...)? Is it a modification by Samsung itself? Cause apparently applications I was using before on my old HTC that supported this feature don't skip anymore when I long press on Volume Up button... instead, it just destroy my ears with a super loud volume! How useful is that?!
I don't want to change the stock ROM, as I had a lot of troubles before with custom ROMs on my previous smartphone (either the GPS wouldn't work anymore, or the camera, or another thing...)
Thanks in advance for your help and advices!
EDIT: I found a way to achieve this. Check out my other post!
