Nexus Root Toolkit - Nandroid Backup using TWRP always gives md5 failures - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This appears to be a problem which is not device specific, as it happens on my Nexus 4, Nexus 5X, and a Nexus 7 (2013) LTE...
All the devices are running their latest stock Android and rooted using NRT with the relevant SuperSU, TWRP recovery and with Busybox installed.
On each device, when I run Nandroid backup using NRT, the files all appear to be copied successfully to the PC, but the md5 cross-checks fail because the backup files are not found on the device. Here's an example from the Nexus 5X:
This is the first part of the wugcheck.md5 file sent to the device:
7c6e0c3198e422ac72122f63cf9e6859 /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/00edb5af33a9b510/2016-03-20--01-04-55/boot.emmc.win.md5
431c7e261fbf14b3d157d2281b9e1aa1 /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/00edb5af33a9b510/2016-03-20--01-04-55/cache.ext4.win.md5

...
And the first part of the log returned showing the md5 check failure:
Pushing "wugcheck.md5" to your device...
adb push "C:\Program Files (x86)\WugFresh Development\Nexus Root Toolkit\data\MD5check_Depot\wugcheck.md5" "/sdcard/wugcheck.md5"

/data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/00edb5af33a9b510/2016-03-20--01-04-55/cache.info: FAILED
...
All the subsequent md5 checks fail in the same way.
My understanding is that /sdcard/ and /data/media/0/ should map to the same directory, and according to ES File Explorer all the relevant files are present in /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/etc. (though ES File Explorer seems to give the mapping as /storage/emulated/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/etc.). Can anyone explain what's happening and how to circumvent it?

Following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430
You have your adb and crackin.bat in the folder " /android-sdk/platform-tools"
And it looks like the other files (line 3 - 5) are in another folder.
Assuming you followed the instructions exactly, you probably extracted those files into "/android-sdk/tools"?
If so, just copy all files from "/android-sdk/platform-tools" to "/android-sdk/tools" and it should work.
Also, do i need to root HBOOT first?

- Get visionary+
- Temproot your legend with it
- Use commandline with adb on your pc to flash misc1-2.img.
type the following commands from the folder where you have adb;
Code:
adb shell
su
accept the notification on your phone if one comes up
and then in the command line type this;
Code:
/data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img
After that you should be able to run the 1.31 RUU

From what I remember, yes it is.
You can now continue the guide in your first post from the point where you have to insert your gold card into your phone.
Still the same errors...

Which errors?
The errors you posted in your first post were from running crackin.bat.
That is not necessary after running the steps I posted.
You can skip to the part where you insert your goldcard into your phone and then run the 1.31 RUU.
I get stuck at step 6 http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-legend/
No menus load.
So if I understand correctly, you have now already succesfully downgraded (Link as in your first post) and rooted (Link)your phone? Since the link you gave in your last post is for flashing a custom rom, which is the last step in the process.
Oops, no, not downgraded yet - I lost my patience, I will try properly again.

How do I install the RUU to downgrade? I get an error if I run the .exe on my laptop.

Have you installed HTC Sync v2.0.33 ?
Download here
You need this version of HTC Sync, so if you have a newer version, uninstall that version first.
Once installed, run the RUU again (you might need to run it as admin).

Yes I have that specific version.
Tried run as admin.
Just to be sure, you still have your phone connected in charge only state right?
If so, are you sure you didn't get any error in the earlier steps?
I downgraded using the exact same method and didn't get this error (recognized all of the others), so I'm not sure what might cause this otherwise.

I showed you what I got from following your steps earlier. You said it looked ok, then I went to downgrade with the RUU.
Is the RUU compatible with 64bit Windows 7?
Looking at your other post, it looks like you managed to complete the downgrading?
What turned out to be the problem with the second step?

The downgrade guide doesn't work for me - I followed this instead: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-r4-htc-legend-rooting-guide-now-with-1-31-x/
But now, I still can't delete widgets/apps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987023

Mate, just wanted to let you know I was having the exact same issues under Win7 x64 and after trying your Visionary+ and manually executing adb commands method, I was able to run RUU successfully.
My Legend is now 1.3.1 and Im performing the root as I type.
Thanks for your help and contritubtion.
Error 170: Usb connection error
Tried to downgrade many time using guides on the forum but when running RUU always get:
ERROR 170: USB CONNECTION ERROR
- downloaded the drivers with HTC SYNC (phone shows up at device manager)
- made the gold card (with two different cards 2GB Kingston, 8GB SanDisc)
- ran ADB ended up with: cr--rw----
- did a temproot, ran adb shell .... su and so on
but still get:
ERROR 170: USB CONNECTION ERROR
Have no clue what to do now whatsoever. Any suggestions?

[Q] Mounting RW

I am trying to install TapNTap keyboard in Vegan Ginger. (yeah, I know but I want to anyway). I need to copy two files to /system/app and system/lib. I presently have the files stored in /mnt/sdcard/download. I have terminal emulator installed and when I su I appear to get root (prompt changes to #). I was able to create an empty directory in /. When I try to copy the file to /system/app I get a message that it is a Read-only file system. When I do an ls -l the permissions show drwxr-xr-x for the directory. The owner is root and the group is root. It would seem that as su I should be able to copy the file there. Possibly it is mounted as RO. I tried to use a remount command but it failed. I'm not well versed in that so I may have done something wrong. Long and short - how do I get the file copied into the directory?

[Q] CASUAL root problem but cant post in the forum

because i am new to this xda i cant post in the right forum so hopefully this will be moved to the CASUAL one-click installation forum.
anyways, i meet all the requirements and when i try to root i get the following:

Superuser is installed and thats it. no root.
What version are you running?
If ICS try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
If GB try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341578
I've used both and they *do* work.
What OS are you running? MacOS?
Mac OSX Snow Leopard
What root method are you trying to use?
i used the CASUAL Public Beta 4, but it wouldnt root. It only installed Superuser. Then I tried the one mentioned above- Eternity Easyroot. However, when I unzip the file, I don't know how to run the actual program. In the unzip file there's a linux file, a windows .bat file which says theres no program to open it on Mac OSX, and then an actual Mac OSX .sh file. I dont know how to run it.

[Q] How do I fix a "Read-only file system" error during ROM flashing?

Hi Kitchen Experts ( What's Cookin?)
I do not seem to be able get rid of an error while flashing my phone with a ROM I built from a flashable ROM from SAMMOBILE, which I unpacked and replaced the zImage with one I compiled from opensource.samsong.com Basically the Kitchen ROM's zip file upacks fine, but then I see the following in my phone's logs: ( Below I put relevant sections:
Installing '/sdcard/DCIM/hltespr_signed_111514_202215.zip'...
Checking for MD5 file...
I:Cannot find file /sdcard/DCIM/hltespr_signed_111514_202215.zip.md5
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
I:Zip does not contain SELinux file_contexts file in its root.
Creating filesystem with parameters:
...
minzip: Extracted file "/system/app/EasyOneHand.odex"
minzip: Error writing 32768 bytes from zip file from 0xbec0437c: Read-only file system
minzip: Process function elected to fail (in inflate)
minzip: Can't extract entry to file.
minzip: Error extracting "/system/app/EasySettings.apk"
symlink: failed to symlink /system/bin/ionice to toolbox: No such file or directory
I updated permissions of the system folder in my WORKING_DIRECTORY of Android Kitchen, and I also used an App called ES file manager to change all the mount points on my phone to R/W; here are the procedures I followed for changing the mount points to R/W . I also validated that my mount points are correct. I am not sure what else to look at. Please let me know if I should post the permissions for my system folder in Kitchen or the output of any command on my phone. I'll gladly do it to address this issue.
I did a search online and found a number of people who had a similar problem, but the solution is not documented. I searched for "zip file ROM can not write to android", and reviewed all the resulting links. I do wipe the flash data and delivic cache before, try the ROM, and wipe again and try it. There is no change. I get the same result. Am I looking at the right things? I have built my ROM twice using the interactive and quick method each time.

root cannot read from /storage/sdcardn/; su error: could not open file

Trying to copy files from /storage/sdcard to the /system partition. Landvo L200 running Android 4.4. Rooted. Kitkat SD fix in place (in platform.xml, the media_rw-group is added to WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). This problem is about _reading_ from SD rather than writing to it.
Using adb, I can do su and become root. As root, I can remount /system as rw and rename files on it. But when I go to /storage/sdcard0/ or /storage/sdcard1/, I cannot see any of the files there. When I drop back to the regular user (so not root), I can see the files on both the /storage/sdcardn/.
Using Total Commander, exactly the same seems to happen, because I can rename files on /system (TC gets root and automatically remounts in rw), but I cannot copy a file from one of the sdcards to /system/<whatever dir>. I get as error message: su error: could not open source file. Apparently this was reported before, without resolution: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=38910&view=next
Anyone knows a workaround to this?
{EDIT} ES file explorer _is_ capable of copying from /storage/sdcard to the /system partition. How do they do it?
