Does anyone know he model numbers for the variants yet? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I'm interested in the straight up, non-carrier version of the North American model of the LG G5. Not the carrier version, that will surely come pre-loaded with useless carrier apps. I made that mistake with the Galaxy S6 last year, and yeah I got my free year of Netflix, at the cost of my sanity dealing with invasive pre-loaded apps.
This year I want to buy a LG G5 in it's simplified glory, unlocked.
Does anyone know specifically where I can buy what I'm looking for? I don't want to buy a random G5 on eBay, and then have it turn out to be like a T mobile version or something.

B&H is advertising an unlocked North America LG G5 (model: RS988) on their site: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1239314-REG/lg_lgrs988_ausasv_g5_h850_32gb_smartphone.html
One caveat, they state that the phone's hardware supports North American carriers' GSM and CDMA networks, but they also state that its up to the carrier to allow activation of the device on their networks. Just because it supports Verizon's LTE bands and CDMA, doesn't mean they will let you use it.
Also, it's too early to tell whether or not the bootloader will be unlockable, which is a requirement to get root on Android 6.0/Marshmallow.

Canadian Model H831
LG website shows Canadian model: LGH831

Att us - h820

this is one thing I hate about LG, there is so many different models. Why cant they just slim the models?

Sorry, I'm not sure yet. They will probably post it on their site in the next week or so.

T-Mobile USA is identified as LG-H830.

Does anyone who has a dual SIM version H860 or H860N or any other knows if when using only 1 SIM you have the no SIM icon on top (because of the second SIM empty slot)?
Thanks

I have the H860N. I only use the SIM1 slot and there's no such empty SIM icon at the top.

Not sure if RS988 is equal to US992.

We can buy it at shop in Asia already (Thailand) Blue colour 4Gb Ram/128Gb Rom, cost about (20,000 Thai Baht). The normal 64Gb Rom/4Gb ram cost (14,500 Thai Baht). They come with the Dac I think.
You can buy it in HKG or Singapur too, but it's different model than one on YouTube. The Korean guy shows Korean LGM-G600SP. The Asia LG-H870DSU has no wireless charging and B&O headphones.

You are correct that not all LG G6 Plus models have Qi wireless charging. I would want Qi wireless charging. I won't buy a phone without it.
These are the South Korean market models (below) with Qi wireless charging. Here's the Qi wireless database search results that prove it. You can also search on the LG South Korean website for those model numbers and use Google Translate to look at the specs.
LGM-G600KP
LGM-G600SP
LGM-G600LP
Problem is the "official" specs do not show all the LTE bands these phones really get. So, it's a leap of faith to buy if you live in the U.S., for instance.
I know, because of people here in the U.S. who bought the Korean regular G6 (not the G6+) and who the models for those South Korean carriers (KP, SP, LP) DO actually get all the AT&T and T-mobile bands -- but just don't show it on the LG Korean website official specs.
Also, I don't want to buy phones I can't root, so I would have to wait until I KNEW I could root one of these LG South Korean market phones.
There's no official bootloader unlock for any of the LG G6 Plus models (yet).
There's also the LG H870U, an LG G6 Plus coming to Europe and other countries. THIS website below says it has Qi wireless charging but I think that's just wishful thinking -- since it's not listed in the Qi devices database I linked in the post above.

Hi guys, I have blue LG G6+ H870DSU http://www.lg.com/hk_en/mobile-phone/lg-H870DSU-Blue-128GB and it has B&O headphones, FM radio and quad DAC audio but doesn't has useless Qi wireless charging. Amazon has an LG G6 plus model with lockscreen ads. Works perfectly on Ting Wireless with GSM sim, so I bet it would work on T-mobile. Model: LGUS997U.
There is an option to unlock the bootloader in developer options, would this allow you to flash a new ROM?

Here's the LTE bands from any of the three South Korean carriers' LG G6 from a member here on XDA. The V30 Plus should be the same. You can go into the Engineering menu and see them. IF they are not already enabled (but they should be), you can checkmark the box to enable them. The only T-mobile bands the South Korean LG G6 models do not have are the newer LTE band 66 and very newest LTE band 71. In fact, only the T-mobile LG V30 has LTE band 71. (It's possible the LG G6 Plus may have LTE band 66 since it was released MONTHS later, but we know it doesn't have LTE band 71.)

NO, these bootloaders cannot be unlocked, at least officially and no one has published a bootloader unlock and root publicly (yet). The only LG G6 bootloaders that can be unlocked and phones rooted are the "open market" LG G6 for North America and Europe. None of the "G6 Plus" are on the official bootloader unlock list. (For 2017, LG has removed most of the ADB commands from their carrier flagship phones, so that even if you unlock the bootloader, it's very difficult for most people to root or install custom recovery.)
Also, none of the "open market" LG G6 have quad DAC or the increased internal storage. This was the reason I didn't buy the LG G6, due to LG's STUPID regionalized specs scheme. It was a great phone on paper -- but LG cut that paper into pieces and shipped it to countries all over the world. You could NOT buy an LG G6 with ALL the specs.
Then the LG G6 Plus (South Korean edition) -- released MONTHS later in mid-2017 -- was the phone LG should have released in the first place in early 2017. It FINALLY had all the specs in one phone (Qi wireless, quad DAC, more storage) -- but LG wouldn't place it on the LG Bootloader Unlock List. And LG wonders why they are trailing Samsung? Idiotic moves like that is why.

If you need root and quad DAC, I would really suggest the "open market" LG V30 for North America. It will be released first week of December (sold by LG directly, and authorized 3rd party retailers like Amazon, B&H Photo and Best Buy) and soon after that will be placed on the LG Bootloader Unlock list. It will quickly get root, TWRP, ROMs, kernels.
It's the OFFICIAL CARRIER UNLOCKED VERSION: LGUS998.AUSASV. Do NOT confuse it with the U.S. Cellular version which has a similar model name. The U.S. Cellular version is sold by a carrier and will NOT qualify for LG's bootloader unlock.
We know the LGUS998 has all the North American CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands of the major carriers, with the probable exception of LTE band 71. We're hoping LG will add it to the model via an FCC addendum or that it can be enabled after the phone is rooted, possibly by flashing T-mobile radio. But that's a question for a dev after we get root.
That's the V30 model I am waiting for.

Also, whether the G6 bootloader unlock indicated on LG bootloader unlock list ("US997.USA for the US open market") also works for this US version of the G6+ ?

Yes, what U.S. Cellular is selling does not have LTE band 71. But while this is the US998, it's not the official carrier unlocked US998. (When you buy this phone from U.S. Cellualr, pay in full, upon request U.S. Cellular will unlock it for you to use on other carriers.)
The official carrier unlocked version has not been "announced" by LG yet -- even though it's listed on B&H website, and we all know it's coming. When it's announced and released (probably end of October, according to B&H website), we are hoping
LG will have filed an FCC amendment to enable LTE band 71 on the US998. An amendment can be filed less than 2 weeks from actual release.
Or that with root, we can enable that band by flashing T-mobile radio over it.
The official carrier unlocked version will not need to have a carrier unlock it, of course. It will be unlocked out of the box. After that, then LG will add that model to the official bootloader unlock list. (EDIT: in another forum, someone said the U.S. Cellular model my not be eligible for official bootloader unlock, even though it's the same model number.)
If you buy this phone from U.S. Cellular right now, pay for it in full, get it carrier unlocked, you would still need to wait for LG to add the US998 to the official bootloader unlock list, to be able to root. Earlier this year it took them SIX WEEKS after the LG G6 US997 was released to be add that phone to their bootloader unlock list.
So, while we know this U.S. Cellular US998 right now does not have LTE band 71, it's possible the official unlocked US998 will have it -- or it can be enabled after root. Exciting times right now, with lots of stuff happening!
To get really specific, here you go:
If you buy this phone right now from U.S. Cellular -- and get unlock code from U.S. Cellular -- it will work on all U.S./Canadian carriers including T-mobile. However, right now it will not have T-mobile's LTE band 71 (600 MHz) which T-mobile has installed in a very few places. (It does have the T-mobile band 66 which is something else.)
If you buy this phone right now from U.S. Cellular, you will have the LG V30+ with 128GB internal storage + microSD card. Will T-mobile eventually sell the V30+ version of this phone, maybe in November, December? Possibly.
If you buy this phone right now from U.S. Cellular, YES you will have a phone that will EVENTUALLY have bootloader unlock and root. You will just have to wait for it a few more weeks, for LG to add it to the official bootloader unlock list. (EDIT: in another forum, someone said the U.S. Cellular model my not be eligible for official bootloader unlock, even though it's the same model number.)
Will T-mobile LG V30 ever have root? Probably not, unless LG/T-mobile has changed their minds since the T-mobile LG G6 was released.
If you buy this phone right now from U.S. Cellular, will you EVER have LTE band 71? Right now, we don't know. Before release, LG can file an FCC amendment to add LTE band 71 to the official carrier unlocked US998 or it possibly LTE band 71 can be enabled on US998 via root. Since this U.S. Cellular US998 and the official carrier unlocked US998 are the same hardware, you can flash any firmware meant for one over the other. IF the official carrier unlocked US998 ever gets LTE band 71, one way or the other, then YES so will this U.S. Cellular phone. (EDIT: in another forum, someone said the U.S. Cellular model my not be eligible for official bootloader unlock, even though it's the same model number.)

Well of course you'll be able to. Sprint will be merged with TMo at the end of this month. So anyone buying a Sprint phone right now is gonna be kinda screwed when Tmo converts all the CDMA to GSM. I would hold off buying any Sprint phones for at least a year to be safe

Yes, the U.S. Cellular US998 model (in both V30 andV30+) is the UNofficial carrier unlocked version. It has all the GSM/CDMA/HSPA/LTE bands listed below -- but it won't be eligible for bootloader unlock and root. It is SIM card unlocked (carrier unlocked) if you pay in full. There's no guarantee LG will sell the OFFICIAL carrier unlocked US998 in the V30+ (128GB) configuration.
We're hoping the official US998 can have LTE band 71 enabled on root or that LG enables it via FCC amendment before release end of this month.

Can we unlock v30's carrier?

Can we unlock so v30 of other carriers will work for at&t? I saw that v30 for other carriers such as T-Mobile and sprint is cheaper.
Verizon and U.S.Cellular LG V30 will work already on any other carrier. They are SIM card unlocked.
T-Mobile will SIM card unlock if you pay off the phone. But depends on which carrier you want to use it on. T-Mobile doesn't have CDMA, so no Verizon for T-Mobile H932.
If you want to confirm if another carrier's phone will work on your network, go to https://willmyphonework.net/
Tmobile has a page that list requirements that must be met before they will unlock it for you https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588

You can unlock T-mobile locked V30 and use it with AT&T because both are GSM phones. However, you can't do the same with Sprint devices because Sprint is a CDMA network. But, some devices have both GSM and CDMA capabilities. So if you plan un getting a Sprint phone, make sure it can support GSM networks (SIM cards as well).
You can check here which are CDMA networks and will probably not work with AT&T SIM cards https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/cdma-networks/
Can I use the existing SIM card from my current Verizon LG V20 phone & retain my same phone number with the new LG V30 model?

Yes. If you have Verizon VS996 or carrier unlocked US998. It doesn't even have to be an "original" VS996 or US998, but any North American variant CONVERTED to VS996 or US998.
But why are you resurrecting a YEAR OLD thread?
Some of the answers on here are way outdated. Now I have to spend time correcting them. Arggggh. People stop digging up old threads!

Yes you can. It's called Frankenstein and I wrote the Guide. Any North America V30 (EXCEPT for T-Mobile H932) can be converted to any of the carrier unlocked models.
Favorite is to convert SPRINT LS998 to some other variant, like carrier unlocked US998.
You can get mint 128GB LS998 v30+ for less than $310 with FREE SHIPPING. Convert it to US998 v30+ with all the US998 bands and fastboot flash commands. PLUS, it's now carrier unlocked/SIM card unlocked.
Bootloader unlock it using WTF, root it, boom ready to go.
Not your fault you had a wrong "November 2017" answer brought to light now in November 2018. Somebody dug up an old thread and the information you gave at the time was correct. But lots of development in the past year. We now have Frankenstein and WTF.

No. Just like AT&T and T-mobile use HSPA as backup bands when LTE is not available, Verizon uses CDMA. The T-mobile H932 doesn't have CDMA. While you CAN enable Verizon LTE band 13 for instance via the "hidden menu" trick on the T-mobile H932, you can't enable CDMA.
The phone that would work for you is the U.S. Cellular V30 or V30+. It has the CDMA and LTE bands you need for Verizon.
Next week, the "open market" official carrier unlocked LG V30 US998 will be released and that will also have all the Verizon bands you need. It's basically the same model as the U.S. Cellular but will also be eligible for bootloader unlock, root, etc. If you don't care about those things, then go ahead and get the U.S. Cellular model US998. It's the "unofficial" carrier unlocked model, also numbered US998. It has GSM/CDMA/HSPA/LTE.

Unlocked AT&T LG V30 on T-Mobile

Hello all. I have an LG V30 unlocked from AT&T. I am currently in the market for some different phone service. I was looking to switch to T-Mobile. However, when I went to their BYOD Check Compatibility page and typed in my IMEI, it said my device was not compatible. Will I still be able to use T-Mobile, just miss out on a few features, or is it no use to try and get T-Mobile service? I have checked that my phone supports all of T-Mobile's bands save for band 71. I figured all I needed was a GSM device and a new SIM card. Am I unable to switch to T-Mobile, can I switch with limited features, or does it operate at full support on T-Mobile, just an error with the website? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your AT&T H931 phone is actually carrier unlocked, it will work with U.S. T-Mobile.

Thank you for your quick response. I will probably see if I can switch to T-Mobile now. I am still curious though. Why would T-mobile still register my device incompatible? Is it an error with my IMEI or the unlock? Is it something on T-Mobile's end?

AT&T H931 is normally carrier locked to AT&T. So, normally it won't work on any SIM card not affiliated with AT&T. T-Mobile knows that. However, you say it's now carrier unlocked. But there's no way for them to know that, just by the IMEI.

That makes more sense now. I can confirm that my phone is unlocked because I have actually used it with T-Mobile MVNOs in the past. I just didn't know if a full blown T-Mobile card would work in it, being scared of the website check and all. You've helped me to clear all this up and I can't thank you enough.
