[video] Remix OS Running on Pine A64 - Remix OS for PC

After quite a bit of work, I was able to get Remix OS installed and running on the new Pine A64 board. I made a quick video, wasn't sure who else would appreciate it other than you guys.

Still trying to get wifi working, but otherwise it's running well!

Root access?
I just got my Pine64 and I like the Remix OS on it but I feel so bound with out root access. Is it possible to gain root access on the Pine64?
I mounted the SD card on a Ubuntu box and found that if I use root on Ubuntu that I can read AND write files and folders in all the system folders. All the rooting methods I have found assume that you are running 32 bit and that the system files are inside a squashfs file. Any idea?

Remix OS not recognizing multi-touch touchpad

I installed Remix 2.0 (32-bit) onto my Dell Mini 10 (1012) netbook. So far, everything seems to be detecting perfectly, except for one thing. The touchpad is supposed to be multi-touch but it doesn't function as such. It is worth mentioning that, on Windows, I required special driver software to be able to utilize the multi-touch capability. Considering I've seen some Chromebooks automatically have their multi-touch touchpads detected, I figured Remix would do the same for my Dell. That doesn't seem to be the case.
Anyway, if any of the Jide developers are reading this, I have the driver software available for you. Follow this link. The software was developed for Windows 7 by Elantech (ELAN Microelectronics Corp.) but is being supplied by Dell. The one the Dell Mini 10 has is a Capacitive Touchpad (Smart Pad).
Hi
I can't get passed the splash screen on my Dell mini. Was your install straight forward?

Are you trying to run off USB, or install onto the internal hard drive? Make sure you're using the 32-bit version, as the 64-bit wouldn't boot for me.
FYI, as you may know, the Mini doesn't like any HD video, so unfortunately very few Android games will run properly.
Thanks for getting back to me. I tried installing on hard drive via Linux using the most recent beta. I've upgraded the ram to 2gig and installed an ssd but not sure if that would cause issue.

I used 2GB RAM and an SSD as well. So that shouldn't be an issue. But the procedure I used was different than simply installing it onto the hard drive with another computer.
Don't install using a separate operating system. It doesn't seem to work that way. You need to load it onto a USB and install onto the hard drive using the Mini. The procedure for this is, when you come to the Guest/Resident mode screen, you press TAB, then add "INSTALL=1" to the end of the grub command. This will bring up the android-x86 install menu, which will allow you to install the OS onto the hard drive the same way as using another computer. Make sure the SSD is formatted to NFTS and is completely empty prior to doing this. You can alternatively try formatting it to EX4 instead.
When prompted, install GRUB, do not install GRUB2, install debug (wont work w/o idk why). Unfortunately, you will be left with the maximum internal storage after the install, so you need to go back and use the IMGTools procedure to enlarge data.img to whatever size you want your internal storage to be.
Thats what worked for me, anyway.
That worked brilliantly, thanks very much. Have you had any success with dual boot after intalling Remix first?

Haven't tried it. But if you use a NTFS format, you should easily be able to shrink the partition after install. You would also need to edit the GRUB menu to choose which OS you want to boot with, which I have no experience doing. However, I know the new beta version of Remix does have an install tool that does this for you. So if you were intending to dual boot Remix/Windows, then it is possible to install Windows first.

Programs to make a ROM in OS X

Hi all,
Time ago I used Windows and Linux to make ROM, but now I switched to OS X and I don't know what programs I need to for example decompress and recompress a kernel (I've troubles with Android Kitchen).
I need also an help for exploring backups: if I mount an image before adapted with imgtool with OS X Fuse, some parts of the ROM are read-only: I've tried to make chmod for all files but it needs su, so I launch it with sudo, but it doesn't recognize the virtual drive.
I'm definitely not an expert in this aspect but I suspect it'd be easier to set up dual boot to accomplish this vs trying to make it work right with OS X.

[ASK] Root 2 in 1 Windows + Android Tablet without loosing data (no UBL)

I have Chuwi Hi10 Pro tablet (Windows 10 Home + Remix OS 2.0 Dual Boot). After using it about a month, I want to root the Remix OS, but, I don't want to lose any data. As far as I read from the Internet, rooting is possible by unlocking bootloader or flashing the whole Remix OS that is prerooted, which most likely wiping all the data in the process.
Since this is a dual boot tablet, I can boot to Windows 10 and mount Remix's ext4 partition using ext2fsd. I can view the file, but I'm afraid to touch it because I don't know what will happen.
Is there any way to root the Remix OS side by "copying" the required SU binary from the Windows 10? Is there any danger modifying the system files outside the Android environment? Will it do calculations like checksum on boot and will refuse to boot if the filesystem is modified?
If anyone know how to root it without data wipe, let me know Thanks
*tried root exploit like framaroot, kingoroot, no joy
Bump!

Gapps TVstock installation on Android TV 7.1, how to do it?

hi, i trying to use the TVstock Gapps package on geek till it hertz's Android TV 7.1 Nougat for PC (build on Android x86)
i am unsure on how to proceed with the installation of the package
my hope is that others who want to make their own Android TV with Gapps will find this post useful and might make videos or more in depth tutorials on the subject
but at this current point, i don't know how to proceed
but this is a summery of what i currently have to work with
1. Android TV 7.1 running on VMWare Workstation 14 player NON ROOTED (couldn't get it working on actual hardware will solve that later, but as far as i know this shouldn't be different on actual hardware then on a virtual machine)
2. a USB (for transferring files and apks, there is no drivers for android to allow file copying, it also has no Ethernet capability so i have to use a USB wireless device to allow for a network connection)
i have tried rooting this device with various root methods, with no success, the opereating system seems to dismiss it, when i tried a terminal method, apps couldn't still see that i had rooted the device even when i remounted the system partition so i could write it to it, apps still couldn't see that the device was rooted
i want to try and get this done without rooting but i am happy to try again with other suggested rooting methods
thanks for reading and i hope you can help me and others with the same problem

Wifi issues after installation of Magisk on Android x86 PC

Hello,
I recently installed Android-x86 9.0-r1 as a second OS on my PC (Asus Transformer Book T300CHI).
Now i would like to install Magisk to get apps working like Sky Go. The main intension is to hide custom roms. I think this is possible with ServiceCheck via Magisk.
First of all I would like to explain how I installed Magisk on my Android x86 partition.
I downloaded magisk.apk Version: ce7cb1ee (276) and installed it to Android x86. Then i went to my Windows OS and copied kernel, initrd.img and ramdisk.img of Android x86 OS to a workfolder. With AIK tool for Windows I managed to create a boot.img file. I copied this file to Android OS and I flashed that boot.img file with Magisk. I just checked the first option. If I check also rescovery mode etc. I suffered a bootloop so I assume only the first option checked on worked for me so far. After that I got a patched boot.img. I copied this file back to Windows OS and unpachted the file with AIK. I renamed the 3 files to kernel, initrd.img and ramdisk.img. I copied and overwrote the files in Android OS folder.
Then I booted to Android x86 and the Wifi did not work. It's enabled but I can't get a internet connection. Then I deleted my network and tried to connect again. I loged in again with my password but it's stated that the password is incorrect. I searched for some similar problems but did not find something which could solve the issue. For example I have no p2p file in wifi folder at root directory which could be deleted.
Has anyone made similar experiances? Would be great if someone could help be with this issue. I'm relatively new on this topic...
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards
i got the same issue after installing magisk on my bliss os, sadly i didn't find a solution. i was so happy that magisk is working but after a while i just noticed that my wifi isn't connecting to any network.
Are you sure that you didn't turn off the WiFi mode from the hardware KB using the 'fn' key + 'f1-f12' (in my case it's 'fn' + 'f2' to turn wireless on/off)? I always just figured this was a windows only thing but come to my surprise, I had same problem one time when I installed android x86 on one of my Intel PC's and must have accidentally press that button combo cause after not being able to connect for a few days, I hit that button combo and it worked again. I dunno if this helps.. hopefully it will but I have my doubts that it will because you stated that WiFi is on but not connecting to any networks.. if this was the same issue it probably wouldn't even come on
If you do a Google search for "magisk wifi problem" you can notice that this is known problem.

I managed to get wifi working out of the box on my HP Stream 11 laptop with a 32 gb emmc while using bliss 11.14 with the 5.4.x kernel. Using bliss os 14.3 was the same, except I sideloaded the latest version of microG suite, Aurora Services/Store, F-Droid, apkpure & Chrome to bypass the Google sign-in loop. Then I went through to add accounts no problem. I'd also recommend using FX File Explorer w/root access. Your method to get Magisk on there with the AIK tool is genius. Now I'm currently testing out the newest os alpha version 15. With 14.x & 15 the wifi module detection is a bit wonky thanks to the 5.10.x kernel and the exclusion of certain hardwares as per official channels. My current workaround for the wifi is simply using USB tethering from my cell and/or a ether net to usb adapter since my laptop has no built in ether net port. I highly recommend using the "a[root] logcat" app to help get info about your hardware and how the OS is detecting the internals.
