Both Facebook and Messenger direct from the app store work flawlessly on KIW-L24 with 7/1 CM13. No need for this.

Just bought the SG3, i get facebook notifications from groups and such, but when someone is chatting or sending me a message on facebook i dont get any notifications at all

Did you install both Facebook app and Messenger app ? Notifications for direct messages work best if you install BOTH apps and only use Messenger for direct messaging. Hope this helps.
Thanks. Yes i installed both first. But i was told by another user with GS3 that he didnt have the messenger app installed and still got notifications about messages.
Installed messenger again and got my notifications.
Asked him later, looks like he had the messenger installed aswell
Did you check your Facebook settings inside of the FB app itself?? There is a whole section for Notifications and also a section for Chat.
I installed the Facebook Messenger app, and immediately started getting message notifications.

me too and i didnt set anything in the fb settings
This is from the whatsapp website FAQ
Note: WhatsApp cannot sync with Facebook friends, so you will need to manually enter their phone numbers in your address book in order for WhatsApp to find them.

No its not that simple..i have all the fb contacts synced n visible in my contacts...the trouble is in getting the fb contacts to show up in third party apps..such as whatsapp...

Get my simple points:
1. Whatsapp will only show your contacts with phone numbers
2. Only the official Facebook app can sync Facebook contacts with their phone numbers.
3. Use the official Facebook app to sync your contacts

the above process doesnt help in getting the fb contacts to show up in whatsapp as mentioned in the OP

Please tell me which of these interpretations of your question is most correct:

# You want to also see your Facebook contacts in "all contacts" part of your whatsapp?

1. You forgot to post your ROM details
2. I don't use Facebook app, so I'll try to install it now (i only have version 1.9.3), I'll then test and see. I'm on a Jellybean ROM, and I'm not sure if the app will sync contacts.
Anyhow, I'll let you know how it goes.

I believe its not possible to sync fb numbers to the phone contacts in (people app) AOSP based roms. It was not possible a while ago not sure about now.

Tested it but Facebook won't sync my contacts.
Yeah Facebook still can't sync contacts to the People (Aosp) app. It was possible to sync on some AOKP based ROMs in the ICS days but I've never been able to sync contacts in CM9/CM10 based ROMs.
... well, except i use some other apps, and those apps cannot sync phone numbers.

fb contact no# was the only reason i switched back to Stock based roms, meanwhile i hope some one finds a workaround for the whatsapp issue..

I'll test and report about the whatsapp once i have the chance to dual boot with a stock ROM.
- from my past experience, my whatsapp contacts always triple from about 150 to 500 once i sync my Facebook contacts. I don't know if things have changed now.

Hi all, i really like the SMS feature on Facebook Messenger, you can use it along with chat heads, but whenever i enable it and try to refresh, it says "something has failed. please try again". Anybody got this to work? And if you did, which ROM? I'm on miuiv4 3.2.22

Hmmm...if i'm not mistaken, SMS feature only available when you have install Facebook Home on your devices...if you un-install Facebook Home the feature will not be available anymore so i think the problem is on Facebook Home not the Messenger....
last time i try using all facebook app/facebook messenger and facebook home on AOKP ROMs, i don't have any problem refreshing it if my phone had internet connection....without internet then re-freshing will be a problem....

Yes,sms feature does release long before home but with latest version on facebook messenger, you need facebook home to make sms feature work properly....
i'm using facebook messenger v2.5.3 (build 221196) without facebook app/facebook home and i don't have sms features anymore (only chat heads)...

facebook messenger is kidding me too , in Zelly Cream ROM and My ROM (Dream ROM)
I've seen tutorials explaining how to use mobile facebook from a web browser.
I have also seen a hack where a correctly-named dummy app makes facebook think fb messenger is already installed. I'm not sure if this works with later versions of facebook.
What I've done so far is install an old version of facebook from July 2014, then used titaniumbackup to break the market link. So that it does not come up in my update or update all lists in play store.
The problem with what I'm doing now is that the facebook app periodically restores the market link so that I am not able to forget about my facebook workaround and update my other apps normally.
I wonder if there is a better hack for a rooted android galaxy s2 that keeps facebook messages in the app but does not require any further attention.
There were also third party apps that could show the facebook newsfeed and send messages but I no longer see them in the play store. Is there an app that I could sideload that is recommended to replace the facebook app?
Any help is greatly appreciated on this.
I think the easiest is just using an old version. Facebook 1.9.12 never asks for the update. Message away to your heart's content. It's posted on another xda thread

I have exictenz 6.3.5 rom and now my Facebook is not working as it should
I can open messenger app through Facebook and in app launcher but I can't open conversations then the app crashes.
I have tried clearing cash, reinstall, erase data, but nothing helps.
The only way I can access the conversations Is to open messenger, long press conversation then chat bubbles.
Please help someone!

Why not simply use messenger and use it for sending messages instead of using the Facebook one?
This happens probably because of the fact that Facebook in the last few updates doesn't use the messenger app, it uses the built in messenger.
It is the built in messenger app I mean!
It opens ok but when I try to open a conversation rhe app crashes!

Welp, I can't really help you, since I haven't faced anything like that. I can only suggest using the messenger app
It's not an existenz's rom problem but a general one. I faced this issue on another phone too buddy. I also took a look into the ratings and reviews of the messenger's app and other users report the same issue. I had no problem with the previous version of the messenger app. Clearing the data won't help neither.
So the only thing to do is to wait the new messenger's version
