My old Nokia N95 had a feature that announced via the speaker the name of the person making an incoming call (provided name was in contacts). It was not brilliant and it had difficulty with some names (my friend doug sounded more like dog). However it was a good method of screening calls remotely especially if you are on the top a a ladder! Is this feature available on my HTC HD2 (virgin mobile) ?
New to XDA apologies if this has already been covered
I am sure MS Voice command will do that. You can download the cab from here http://www.energyroms.com/Addons/
ms voice command
Thanks R12srw - does ms vc work out of the box or are there still bugs with it?

jeeem, you will be disappointed to note that there are still bugs reported with MSVC, however you can be glad that it will be announcing the respective incoming caller's names / numbers.
If you havn't installed the .cab yet please note 2 things:
First: during installation, you will be prompted (and WARNED!!!) to install the MSVC on your device instead of the storage card. It actually doesn't matter even if you install it on your storage card instead of device, so install it at your desired location. (I prefer to install it on the card as I am extremely miser to save every bit possible, on the device!!!).
Second: After the installtion, you will be prompted with a WARNING saying the installation was UNsuccessful. This is BUG!!!. Ignore it. Restart and enjoy...

Jeeem, MSVC does work, and as I mentioned in my last post to you, you have to install in accordingly. However as you mentioned in your reply, it seems you are not able to get it done, which to me it appears you might not be having teh APPROPRIATE VERSION or the correct .CAB file. Should you wish, I can mail the correct working cab on your email.
Hi, i'm coming from the gio section and my father has a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE GT-I9305N with stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1
Poblem in details:
He got problem with showing contacts on viber and tango and both doesn't show any contact except whatsapp works great. It's the second time it happens and what i did at the first time, i fixed it by clearing the data on contacts (stock application) in settings (resetting) and same both for viber and tango and then restarted the phone. I have set to "show all contacts" in contacts (stock app) but still doesn't show any in viber/tango. When trying to sync viber for contacs, it writes "Syncing not completed, please try again" and for tango, still message "we didn't find any tango users in your adress book".
btw he bought the phone with JB already installed, so we don't know if the problem was same in ics.
So my question is if someone has similar problem and knows how to fix it, if it does conflict with other apps and if it's a bug in 4.1.1
Isn't a JB bug because I've been using Tango since 4.0.4.
[SOLVED] "contacts to show"
The contacts didn't show 100%, so i had to go to "contacts to show" in menu and pressed custom at the bottom then checked every boxes view my contacts/all contacts each on of the account registered on the phone, then it showed contacts in Viber and Tango. Sorry if spam, but i tried everything and i found at last the solution at Tango's support section and my father is now happy.
Moved to proper forum
Hi,
This is an official representative of Viber Media.
@tico96 - Please check the following link for possible solutions: http://bit.ly/UvNPuq and let us know if the issue persists.
Thanks,

Hi Viber team
I have posted a review on play store too. I am very unhappy with version 4. I use viber on SGSIII and Nexus 10. Most of my viber contacts before upgrade dont show up as viber contacts anymore; especially painful to note my wife is also missing in that list. Backward compatibility issues huh? btw wife is on iOS6(iPhone 3GS).
Wife and me used to love Viber. It really sucks now. All my wife's viber history also was lost once i upgraded her viber to 4.0 as well. Multiple issues are plaguing the devices post-update.
Please lets address those.
Cheers
Ravi

Thank you for the report of the problem. We are sorry to hear of these issues, and we will do our best to help you resolve them.
We thoroughly tested Viber on iOS6 and so we didn't expect any major problems with the new Viber version on it.
About your contacts: The source of this issue could greatly vary. Please read this short page in our HelpDesk, outlining some possible workarounds that will help reboot synchronization of the contact list: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/...st-is-not-showing-your-friends-as-viber-users
If the problem remains, or there's any other issue: we would appreciate if you could take a minute and report the details to our support team using this direct link: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit/RenderForm/1
When you submit the ticket, in the line called: "Through which channel did you submit your initial inquiry", please make sure to choose "Technical Forum".
Thanks in advance!
@Viber R& D:
You guys and your responses as always are thorough and very considerate, much appreciated.
Looks like the recent upgrade in my SGSIII has fixed most of the issues around contacts synchronization.
I have an issue with my desktop version though, the 'catch' though is I use a portable version of Viber Desktop, packaged by some Fabianator folks using VMware. Can you guys not build a nice portable install of viber yourself. The problem with this 'portable' viber desktop is that the contacts dont quite synchronize well, even if they do i am only able to see the messages but the call and message buttons are greyed out for me.
Should i put in a feature request for a portable version? Also, something on the lines of Wechat which has web version would be awesome; even going a step further if gmail can have hangouts(which are voice calls and video calls) inbuilt into the browser itself, Why cant you guys.
For me the issue is also wrt the fact that i dont have admin rights on my work PC and I cant live without Viber since i contact my wife and my close friends through viber.
In fact i go a step ahead and recommend viber to all and sundry, since it just about is now operable on any device!!! which is as good as anything gets.
Cheers
Ravi
Thank you for all this elaborate feedback Ravi!
About the portable version you're using: at the moment Viber does not officially support running the app on the specific configuration you described. In this case I would open a support ticket (and not a feature request, though it's closely related for your issue) using this direct link: we would appreciate if you could take a minute and report the details to our support team using this direct link: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit/RenderForm/1
When you submit the ticket, in the line called: "Through which channel did you submit your initial inquiry", please make sure to choose "Technical Forum".
Regarding the web version - this is something we are not planning at the moment. For this, I certainly invite you to submit a feature request.
The Admin permission needed for Viber Desktop is currently the expected behavior of Viber. We have received requests from some of our users to cancel this requirement from Viber, and we're looking into this issue at the moment. If we have news, we'll certainly keep you posted.
@Viber R&D:
I wouldn't want to raise a support ticket for issues in the unsupported packaged version of Viber desktop.
However, for having a 'portable official' version of Viber Desktop. Won't it be a feature request? I want to just add onto the numbers in terms of people requesting for it. Where do i formally do it?
The lack of a web version and you having no plans to put in place doesn't bother me much; its like I said the lack of 'official portable' Viber that gives me nightmares.
Does it have anything to do with the system limitation of only 5 concurrent devices at any given point in time; since a portable version would simply mean the ability to run in a portable manner in as many machines as possible?
I am only trying to understand why development towards something elegant like that can't be expedited.
Cheers
Ravi
@raviraviravi -
Well, every project of ours demands time, manpower and resources. The reason Viber does not have an 'official portable' compatibility yet is simply because it hasn't been officially developed to handle it. It could be a problem with the way Viber communicates with our server (for example - port/protocol issues when trying to deliver Viber traffic), or other sources of the problem. When/if we develop such a version, we will check all these issues thoroughly and only then we'll be able to tell 'what is not compatible', so to speak.
Yes, then it is recommended that you open a feature request ticket. One way or another, we see those tickets and will be able to consider it in our development roadmap.
Thank you again for your time!
Like every other device on the market, the HTC ONE X+ is not perfect, both at device and software levels it is likely that some glitches and hitches will be discovered, this is exactly the place to report those bugs. It is important here to distinguish between a bug from the device and a bug from an XDA ROM developer, the latter case must be reported in the appropriate topic and not here.
Known BUGS:
BUG : Delayed & Multiple texts. This could very be related to the AT&T new LTE network. The thread about this issue is located HERE
SOLUTION : None so far.
BUG : Google Contacts syncing issue. The thread about this issue is located HERE
SOLUTION : None so far
BUG : Distorted Bluetooth audio in calls. The thread about this issue is located HERE
SOLUTION : There is a fix for this issue but only if your phone is rooted, to do so simply apply this patch created by Steve0007. Unfortunately for non-rooted phones, you will have to wait for an official fix from your device provider or HTC.
BUG : Distorted streaming via Bluetooth (A2DP) not the same issue as the audio in calls. The thread about this issue is located HERE and also HERE.
SOLUTION : There is no general fix for this issue at the moment if your phone is stock or with a custom Sense ROM. If you desperately need a fix, only one ROM has fix this issue that I know of, and it's only for the International (ENRC2B) version, have a look at maxwen AOKP 4.2.2's ROM. (Let me know if there is another ROM)
Post your bugs and issues and if they get confirmed frequently I will add them to this list.
Distorted BT audio in calls and music streaming
Camera lens cover scratches very easily
Thanks, Lucky. I replied to the FAQ in this forum with these, but probably better as a separate sticky. Only one I would add is:
Headphone button calls previously called contact, regardless of any apps downloaded to override (like Headset Button Control). As far as I can tell, this is a Sense-wide issue not specific to the HOX+, but HTC hasn't released a fix. I personally would be VERY grateful if someone was able to fix it but haven't found a solution yet.

From my research u must he using a wired headset correct? If so, yes this is HTC HARDWARE as wired headset double tap (forward music track) while enable call feature as the device is only equipped with headphone jack, how ghetto is that? Trust, I live at the gym and always use headsets changing tracks.
Solution, invest in a BLUETOOTH stereo headset! I got the new Jaybirds X and some of the best quality ever and all toggle features work as they should. If using Bluetooth headsets u should not have this issue, only with wired. HTC is a little slow if u haven't noticed, just look at their stocks...

I wouldn't jump to say the google sync is a wide spread problem as I've never heard of it before seeing your thread. Using latest Elegancia Rom and no issues nor in the past. Contacts and everything sync same day/time zero issues.
For people having issues getting newly phone saved contacts synced to Google account simple. Go to dialer, settings, manage contacts, copy all phone to Google, done.
What's wide spread and not listed is the low lighting camera pics this device takes. My iPhone 4 takes better pics than this device, lol! Sure that's a firmware issue though as no one has fixed it, just a patch here and there.

Thanks for your input Deeznuts, I will consider to remove this Google Syncing since it could very be a modded bug. I do confirm that I have this issue since the day I bought my HOX+, since then even with a fresh installed copy with every options by default of any ROM's I tried, this issue has never been resolved for me. Even with this warning I confirm that every syncing are working flawlessly.
Now as for your camera issue, can you summarize a bit more please, because my phone is doing very photos any various situations.

There is another issue with Google sync. I don't know why but HTC removed that your address book gets automatically synced to the Google server. It saves your contacts to the phone but not automatically to your Google account. After a hard reset I lost 10 of my new contacts because I thought they are automatically synced to my Google account. You have manually export you contacts to your Google account.

The contact sync thing is indeed an unsolved issue since, according to my "research," a Sense-wide thing that HTC needs to address.
However, I'm having issues with Contacts not syncing at all through Google. If you go into account settings under Google, the Contacts listing says it hasn't been synced in a month and a half, and the circular arrows are there but not rotating and never leave. If I uncheck and check, they start spinning but just stop and sit there. AFAIK, there is no solution yet to this, but if I'm wrong then by all means, Lucky, leave it off the OP.

So you're saying the problem goes away with bluetooth headsets? I thought the HOX+ was having bluetooth audio issues? Or were those fixed?
Can anyone else confirm that with wireless headphones, the "button calls last contact" is no longer present? I was about to order some Klipsch S4a II's off ebay but will hold off until I get confirmation on this. I'd rather not have to keep bluetooth on since it's a battery drain, but the Call last Contact glitch is supremely annoying.

This phone is really bad
I'm on a replacement HTC One X+ sent by AT&T. Currently I'm experiencing the following problems:
Receipt of the aforementioned duplicate texts
Stuttering and eventual unresponsiveness when playing music files
The phone creating the maximum amount of home screens and switching my main home screen.
The battery dropping by 40% in one hour on standby.
Becoming unresponsive and taking 40+ seconds to restart with the power button held down
The HTC sense launcher has become unusable.
I really liked this phone at first with its beats audio and everything. It is my first android phone. I purchased after (ultra) extensive daily research. There were hundreds of positive reviews. I was under the assumption that Tegra 3 would be the most brilliant thing to come to gaming. I'm going to wait until 14 days after the release of the galaxy s4 and beg for a warranty replacement. I have major reservations about considering the HTC One after these experiences. Has anybody experienced any of these? (outside of the problems already mentioned)

Actually, Steve's fix is for Bluetooth Call Audio, not for Media streaming. the Media Streaming is still an issue on Sense ROMs (At least on AT&T HOX+). Here's a link to a post from a user on Steve's Elegancia (AT&T/TELUS) ROM's Thread that better explains it:

I have not experienced the phone switching my home screen or number of screens, but in terms of your unresponsiveness issues, yes I have them all. The worst obviously being the need to restart my phone almost everyday at the exact point when I need it the most. And for some reason the phone becoming unresponsive does not stop the green indicator light from flashing! I've also found that when playing music and the sound starts to stutter, the screen many times will not turn on. Bah! :crying:
If I may, I think lots of the issues that you are all pointing out are related to the at&t model. I've got 2 international one x+ (one belongs to my wife) and they are both impeccable. The bluetooth audio is perfect, actually, I'm coming from a nexus 4 which had horrible bluetooth audio performance. Even syncing Google contacts is flawless. I also really love the camera which is great and outperforms many devices (the nexus 4 camera is inexcusably crap)
I'm not saying that it's a perfect phone, I'm just saying that I think that from what I've read in the past months and in this thread, the at&t model probably suffers from more glitches than the international one. Can anyone confirm what I'm saying?

Hello guys.
I have been using 4A for about 6 months now. My calling is heavy due to nature of my work. However, I am really disappointed by the dialer which 4A comes with due to following reasons-
1. No unlimited call logs which is a very big bummer. It's such a basic thing any phone maker must provide.
2. Smart search from dialer is as bad as it can be. I'm coming from a Xiaomi phone and Google should really learn a few things how to make a dialer app. The search is billion times better in the latter.
3. Lack of call recording which I can live with but is desirable.
Basically I'm asking if I can install any third party dialer (preferably MiUI) ? I'm ready to root if it's needed.
Please help me. I'm on the verge of going back to my MIUI phone as my main phone just because of this crappy dialer.
PS: I can't go custom ROM way because I don't want to lose stock camera's quality.
Thanks

Basically I'm asking if I can install any third party dialer (preferably MiUI) ? I'm ready to root if it's needed.
Please help me. I'm on the verge of going back to my MIUI phone as my main phone just because of this crappy dialer.
PS: I can't go custom ROM way because I don't want to lose stock camera's quality.
Thanks

Try using TruePhone ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hb.dialer.free ). I have call recording and I have never came to a situation where call log was too short - I have checked my favorite contact and I have log since I installed it.
P. S. U have root on my phone, but I am not convinced if it is needed. Try it as IMHO is the best dialer with tons on customization.

Hi,
Can you elaborate on these two?
I ask because if I click the middle "Recents" button at the bottom, the call log is very limited. But if I then click the three dot button in the top right and select "Call History", it will go back very far in time.
Also, what problems are you having with the smart search? Can you mention a couple of examples?

I did check the history and surprisingly found out today that my call records are only till 6th of April from today and then directly to Oct 2020. Don't know how is that possible, but this is what I found.
I'll explain my problem to you.
When I bought this phone, I had imported around 10k call logs records but when I used to check history of numbers I dial frequently, I came to know it's not storing unlimited history. Like the person whom I have called 20 times has only 2 entries in the log.
Until today I didn't know that history between 20 Oct 2020 to April 5, 2021 is missing. I don't have a sane explanation for this.
Regarding smart search, see following scenarios:
It doesn't search if I type keywords which are between the names. Eg name is John, if I type 646, it should show but it doesn't. It always search with first letter only, be it name or surname.
Second case.
I have a name saved called Prathmesh, my dialer always fails to show it. I dial 77284, it shows other relevant search results but not this and when I type next digit, no results at all. In the frequent updates of Google dialer phone app, after one particular update, it started searching but after next update again stopped. This is one example, I can give more.
Third case.
It doesn't search from unsaved numbers. Suppose I vaguely remember I had received a call from a number which had 5555 at last but couldn't exactly remember, there is no way I could find using Google dialer.

Thanks for app suggestion buddy.
It solved almost all of my problems.
Now I can search the way I want, can record calls, and possibly can store unlimited logs.
Thanks a ton again.

I was happy with the app but now call recording isn't working.
I have been using drupe dialer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.drupe.app&hl=en_US&gl=US) for many years to address exactly the problems that you have mentioned. You can give it a try. But here also, the inbuilt call recorder is not working with Pixel 4a. It used to work with my older Oneplus X.
Galaxy s21 and my security seems to be an issue. What is this phone number doing here and why would it be toggled on to receive my messages. Thanks again everyone I hope I'm just being paranoid.

How do you expect anyone here to know what that number is? Why is it toggled to receive your messages? We don't know, you are the one that uses the device.
You are asking questions that we don't have any clue how to answer.

It looks like you have received a text from that number.
Your SMS app allows you to mute notifications from that number.

Oh I don't know, maybe someone has seen this type of attack before. Maybe someone does know how a phone number can even get attached in the manner it did. One thing I'm confident in is if anyone has any positive thoughts on the matter it would be a great help. Certainly though I can see this has upset you in a way that was not my intent. My thought was perhaps others who own an s21 are seeing the same thing or perhaps they are not. Lastly, your right, it is my device. A device that I didn't put the number on there and I have no idea how to remove that switch or input or whatever it's called. However, I do apologize for triggering your anger and will try to keep that in mind for future post. Thanks again and be safe.

Ya it's just odd given the issues I've had in the past. Why that number of all the numbers and contacts that I have this number that I've never seen before and is nowhere else on my phone is somehow attached itself to my phone. It won't let me remove it and it appears that if toggled on that number would receive notifications of my messages.

Who's upset? I'm just saying that we have no way of knowing what the number is or where it came from. Yes, someone may be able to explain "how" the number got put there, but, ultimately it got there through someone using the device(whether you or someone else) and that someone somehow allowed it or granted something access somewhere(whether they were aware of it or not) because android doesn't just allow anything to randomly apply itself to an android device without being granted access or given permissions. It is from some app that you installed, an email that you opened, a message you answered, some kind of multimedia content that you opened or something like that. Android doesn't allow things that were not expressly allowed by the user, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Hence my reply about you being the one that uses the device. Review your usage and trace your steps back to whatever may have been the thing that you allowed or clicked on unknowingly.

They probably have the option to block the number also.

Well I believe it migrated over after rest and I restored my messages. The solution was to clear the cache and data of my messages app. The input is no longer there visibly at least. I will continue to battle those who wish to usurp my authority and permissions that encoded in my device. Thanks again.
that number is samsung's account verification number according to true caller id as to how it got there no idea..
