With auto-brightness disabled, press and hold the notification bar then slide left or right to adjust the screen brightness (may need to wait a half second before sliding so the phone realizes you want the brightness changed).
I rarely use auto adjustments, so this way is faster than opening the settings menu and adjusting from display options.
I didn't see a recent thread about this, but if it is a recent repost- just let it get buried I know it works for nearly all Galaxy phones, but some of us Android users are getting our first taste of the Galaxy line with the Note.
Nice tip!
I read about this but forgot, thanks for the reminder. Until now I had added the Power Saving Widget to one of my home screens just so I could adjust the brightness - but even then it only allowed low - 33% - 50% - 100% which was a little annoying. And the thing is huge, takes up half the screen. All gone now!
Great tip! Thanks! Was wondering why the brightness option wasn't one of the notification bar power options...now it makes sense since it's built in...just not obviously!
That's the money shot right there!
Its like easter eggs left and right with this phone, I like it
Sweet nice tip!!!

That's the first thing I noticed missing from the notification bar, too
Got the OTA update to L on my 6833. Yes, it has made the already smooth animation slightly smoother but otherwise what is there? The power widgets are gone, I had to install third party Power Toggles app. The new notification swipe down is annoying, having to swipe up when waking device is annoying. The status bar colors are inconsistent. The menus look childish looking.
Without being dramatic, did Sony take all this time to make sure it ran without crashing? Because I notice very few changes (not even improvements, just any changes) on the UI. I must be missing something.
more than that:
can only set one volume at a time.
either portrait or auto, you can't force landscape like in KK.
animations are fluid, but the functionality isn't. My opinion is, if the device has extra power that it can use to make things animate, slide and fade all over the place, better to put that extra power into making the device perform faster. Anyone here who prefers prettier animations instead of faster functionality?
low resolution screenshots in the recents screen. wat. Seriously... wat? Also, the way they've made it it is faster to just go to the apps screen and open whatever app i want, instead of waiting for the recents screen to load and then scroll awkwardly through the programs... Also, you can only see three recent apps. On a device with 6" of screen. three. think about it.
Also... what is the point of having screenshots, anyway? icons are faster, easier to distinguish, take fewer resources and smaller area on screen.
I agree fully on the recent apps screenshots. The blurry images are embarrassing and don't at all go with the clean/sharp theme of everything else. I don't understand why they've made it low res, can't be for performance given no restraint or need anywhere else. Bizarre!
There is over-prettying. For example, the stupid screen swipe up to unlock (after hitting the power button already), the sparkles are just so unnecessary, it is one of the few places the phone actually seems to struggle pulling off the effect.
At the moment my biggest problem is with Yahoo Mail. The account does not seem to auto-sync despite all the settings being correct and even when I force the sync manually the notifications don't show. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, most likely Yahoo to blame, their webmail is always breaking but never ever had a single issue before with KK. This is problematic because it is effectively no longer push email, I have to manually check 50 times a day.
My biggest annoyance is the inability to reclaim the Google search bar area in the Home Screen. I don't want that search button, why can't I use that space, and why a stupid dot to represent the pages of the Homescreen when I only have 1.
Is there actually anything different/new on the backend? My issues aren't severe enough to go back to KK (yet) but seeing what I see, I would have no problem whatsoever buying an Xperia Sony will not upgrade beyond KK.

I agree with you about small changes. I even face some strange problems in my WiFi. the mac address haven't change, but I can't connect to my work WiFi protected network. Sometimes it connects in limited status. One of my friends which updated his Ultra has this problem too.I could connect it to my laptop adhoc wifi netwrok, but for one time. it even can't connect to that network anymore. I rolled back to my stock 14.4.A.0.133 backup. and a'm waiting to fixes from sony.
Agree with you guys. And that stock greenish blueish greyish statusbar color pisses me off! Anybody knows how to change that color?
Quite pathetic attempt by a mod to bury this thread by moving it to this section. If negative feedback on L bothers you so much, delete the thread and censor it outright. Sad day for xda.
The one that made me write this post is that when in some other program, like Internet browser, the notification area is changed, color wise. I can't figure out the logic behind that.
Battery life has been pretty bad after 24 hours too.
Voicemail not auto signing in, after using the Google master phone account user name and password.
With using menu, button, and back keys, the ui experience has changed dramatically. I've never had to have a settings widget to get fast access before.
I'm sure there will be a big learning curve going from 4.4.4 to 5.0 but this, IMO, is counter productive. This is coming from someone that has been with android for 6 years. Changing button mappings? Why?
I dislike the notification space being used up by the s finder and quick connect. I also dislike not having the menu key being the app switch key. Battery life isn't awful for me, but I do think it's a little worse.
Here something I do like though. For a long time I had an audio skipping problem that I assumed was a hardware issue. After the update it's GONE. I was so happy about that.
GPS Broken
The update has managed to break my GPS. Cannot get a lock
Washed out graphics
What I don't like about lollipop is the big washed out, flat no detail icons, and backgrounds. I realize that this is how they are going to get better battery life. By cutting down on displays, there detail and intensity. I noticed they have doubled up on there icons. One icon does many things, but you have wonder through the menu on the icon to get where you want to go. To me it looks like something you would see on a first generation smartphone, just saying !!!
I just miss all the mods I could do with xposed... Lol
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Free mobile app
i miss MOAR controls?
I would like to have transparent weather back!
I'm noticing app studdering while running without a reboot. Even when there are no apps in the app end screen, some games and music apps hiccup. Yes I'm running old versions of apps, mainly because the new ones are over bloated or crap or aren't hacked. I have old versions of candy crush and pandora and tunein radio pro. The reasons I'm still running them are that they are the last version that you could use the bump clock for lives cheat, unlimited skips and no commercials, and I hated the totally revamped versions.
I'm now running at 2% battery and things are unbelievably fast. Seems like no consistent performance so far.
The Good:
- Snappiness and overall speed improvement: the Android N update made my S7 so much more snappy and responsive. The phone boots much quicker than it used to, apps install almost immediately after they finish downloading, and the keyboard is far more responsive and quick to register touches.
- Clean UI: The entire default theme on Android N is very clean and minimalistic, which I absolutely love.
- Battery Life: My phone drains much slower during active usage, and the new ultra low power mode is great. Not all is good in this department though, and I'll address the issues in the negatives.
- Customization: I think the customizability is great, and being able to control your DPI and resolution is much appreciated. Keyboard resizing works, though it doesn't get nearly small enough, and this is coming from someone who's 6"2 and has relatively large hands.
Automatic Reconnection: This has been both a positive and a negative for me, as I have Comcast at home and my phone used to switch to the open Xfinity WiFi hotspot at home instead of my private home WiFi. This fixed that issue, but now when I try to connect to a Xfinity WiFi hotspot it usually keeps giving me an "Automatic Reconnection is turned off", and won't let me connect for a good while.
The Bad:
- Battery Life: Standby time has absolutely gone to crap and I'm relatively sure sleep doesn't work.
- Bloatware-: Still has all of the unnecessary b.s. that Sprint S7's come with, and the voicemail still isn't possible to be disabled.
- Ultra Power Saving and DPI: Once changed/enabled, there is no "are you sure you want to keep these settings" prompt. I was outside when I was just messing around and enabled ultra power saving, and it was a struggle trying to disable it. Also, if you set your DPI to something which you are unable to read, there still isn't a "undo this?" prompt.
- App Incompatibility and Crashes: Two apps that I've run into that have issues with Android 7.0 are Pokémon Go and Opera VPN. Trying to enable Opera VPN under settings causes an automatic crash, and you can't expand its notification anymore.
Can relate to the garbage standby times. Battery isn't the best for me either on nougat

X2, standby life is absolute garbage.
I am at 8 hrs 20 mins with 2 hrs SOT and only 41% left. It's not great, I'm not getting through the day.
I guess will be nice if we discuss how to achieve some kind of notification on our displays without draining the battery. Smartwatch is good way to deal with it, but let's keep to the phone itself. Most wanted feature is to have recurrent notifications. I invested some time in trying some apps and these are my "5 cents":
- Always On Edge- this is the program I prefer to use so far and will explain why. It lights up the edges and could be set to be recurrent. With many settings about almost everything. Just don't forget to save the settings after changing things. It works most of the time, but it's a bit tricky- don't let the system to control it (to stop it)- you can do it from battery management. And from my experience- use the power button to turn off the screen (or just leave it to turn off). Using some additional programs (like JButton and Fluid gestures) activate more secure mode (could be wrong) and prevent the notification blinking. The good is that it's relatively battery friendly.
- LED Blinker Notifications - always working, nice customization. Shows colored circles on the screen in Awlays On Display manner. Can set different color for different app and random position (to avoid burn-in). The bad- spends a lots of power and the battery is going down fast. And is way pricier. I bought it anyway to test it, but probably will stay unused.
- Glimpse Notifications- works (almost) always. The problem is that will either light up your screen (drains battery, because wakes up the CPU) or makes a vibration or a sound. This could be annoying for everyone.
- integrated Always On Screen feature in our phones- works fine, shows icons with the notifications. Nice solution, but spends about 1% battery per hour (on my phone). This is the whole consumption of the phone of course, but I think that this is 1.5-2 times more than regular consumption. It's good solution anyway.
I use the following combination:
- Always On Display with clock + notification icons
- Always On Edge (rainbow crashes around the edges + clock + notifications)
- phone is in DND
- Xiaomi Mi Band 3 vibrates

What is the purpose of DND? Avoiding sounds and turning on the screen?
P.S. In my previous opinion I meant AOD- Always On Display (not Screen ). Sorry for the mistake.

I don't want to hear anything from the phone. Just want to be notified in a visual (AOD + AOE) and haptic (Mi Band 3) way.
I assume screen or display is both fine
Hi
I'm also looking for a solution since I miss the LED so much. I'm currently with Always On Edge, but I'm not happy with it. It drains the battery quite a lot, even when I don't get a lot of notifications.
I had days where the stats do report 90 min cpu including 50 min in background. It's quite unrealistic that it had to blink that long during the whole day.
If somebody has a better alternative (also playing together with the fingerprint unlock), please let me know.
Better to check the mAh that are consumed, than the CPU and the screen time. It's located in Power Consumption Details -> Software and is not so bad. But probably depends on how much time you spend away from your phone. You can use AOD and put the phone with screen down, it will turn off screen until you flip it and see if notifications are available.

Hi there!
Is there a way to change how the vibration works? Sorry for the noob question.. cheers!
@kimirai1027 for some Apps e.g. WhatsApp you can specify vibration intensity:
Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp -> More Settings -> Vibration: Off/ Standard/ Short/ Long
@doemEINS Thank you buddy.. cheers!
I had tried to use ALWAYS ON EDGE (among a few other apps) but no matter what settings I tried, etc. I could not get it to work. That being said, I found another app on the Play Store called ALWAYS ON AMOLED and it works like a CHAMP.
It is super customizable and seems to be very similar to ALWAYS ON EDGE so if you are looking for something like this to use as a visual for notifications then I recommend this app. Just search for ALWAYS ON AMOLED on the Play Store...
damn huawei, in the p30 pro are a lot of missing features.
don´t look on samsung, you might get wet eyes, however they want the same price, lol.
oh yes, the laica optics are good, but still, the software is a piece of ..... ( I am not sure, can I say this here?) you know what I mean.

You are absolutely right! Nothing to add from my part, it is exactly what I lack in my P30 Pro: the software is horrible.
On the other hand, guys what is wrong with just using the AOD? It doesnt drain the battery like the Samsung one...so...? I use that and I am ok with it.

How you set up notify buddy?
notifybuddy not working on my p30 pro with android 9. install, allow access, choose apps for notification ... nothing happens when new notifications are there. maybe we can do something with tasker? turn AOD on when notification?
I find it unbelievable in this day and age when manufacturers decide to remove a functional Led yet don't replace it with anything half decent for notifications.
You know when you plug in your charger, those green bubbles appear? A notification like that would have been nice.

That's the one thing I miss from my S10+, using good lock to have the notification light around the hole punch, most third party applications from the play store need ridiculous permissions or use a stupid amount of battery

Great thread guys..
Can someone please share thier AOE settings/configurations if it's working fully for them.
Its not working at all for me, and I'm usually a person who enjoys playing with settings until I get a satisfying result.
Would really appreciate it.
