Broken recovery on lolipop - Verizon LG G3

So I rooted and installed TWRP and tried to install the recovery using the app. TWRP said it was successfully installed but will boot to a red and blue flashing led.
I can still get the phone to boot up using power and the down volume button but cant get into recovery anymore. Help would greatly be appreciated.

what firmware are you running? I know anything past 10b or 12b it's kinda a pain to get twrp on it.

35b

I'm sorry but I don't have any experience with trying to get twrp onto 35b. But I know it can take a while but you can tot back to 10b with 35b dll, and then root with stump root then use the twrp app to install twrp recovery

Ok, thats cool. I finally got downgrade to work via the tot method; ive tried before but I was using the wrong dll file.

Glad you got it fixed. You *can* put TWRP on from 35B and higher but it's a little painful and some had problems that resulted in them needing to TOT to fix it anyway. I haven't had any problems the 2-3 times I've tested the method. If you're curious you can take a look, it's the second link in my signature below titled "[VS985][TWRP]Install TWRP/flash older KDZs on stock 35B-47A, works for 'ks error'".
But I always recommend the TOT method first.

That is exactly what happens
bump
Easiest way is to kdz back to 10b ,stump root add twrp
Using twrp manager app then flash SD or Jasmine Rom.
I just hard bricked doing it the adb way because I didn't have twrp at the time.
You have to downgrade the bootloader (aboot.img) to the one from 12B. You can get the file you need from the sticky .img repository (that sounds wrong) in the General section. I don't know the adb command off the top of my head to install it.

I am not as versed in the Dev world. Is there anybody that can help me downgrade the boot image to KitKat so I can flash TWRP and/or provide a stock recovery method so I can attempt to get that back? From ops ota 23c rooted predicament.
Thanks in advance.

That one has saved my ass a few times. Verrry handy.
It's also the only way I was able to load twrp after the 23c OTA. Spent a ton of time figuring that one out.

Unable to boot TWRP 2.8.7.0

I'm unable to boot into recovery. When I attempt to, the system hangs on the Twrp splash screen, and will continue to hang four hours, until I do a reboot.
I am able to flash earlier versions of twrp and philz cwm, but I'm unable to flash a new rom in either.
Running cm13 1/20/16
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. Would be greatly appreciated.
Any info need from me, please let me know.

Start back from scratch with the 10B KDZ, re-root with the Stump app and use TWRP Manager to put TWRP on. Then flash whatever.
Damn, I was fearing that was going to be the recommended fix.
OK, thanks!

Soft Brick, Cant fix

Ok so here's the jist of it. Was trying to downgrade from 46a to 10b. Couldn't get LG flash tool to come up "Ready", so I tried the terminal emulator method. Seemed to work until I rebooted. Now I get unsuccessful boot error with the LG screen. I don't have twrp as I hoped, only stock recovery. So I've tried for hours with many different methods to get the Flash tool to pick up my phone when its in Download mode. Tried disabling driver signature at boot, downloading different drivers, changing com port to com41.
Nothing
I am on Windows 8 and could get as far as the actual flashtool previously. Now I cant even get that far. Stayed up until 5am and have been back at it since 1.
Any help would be awesome!

So, I can get the my laptop to pick up the phone and show the port. Also says connected mpt device. I just cant get the flash tool to see it. Would it be safe to say that my phone is wiped and therefore does not currently have a "version" (46a ext) and would allow me to flash a kdz on the 2014 flash tool?
Trying to think outside the box seeing I've gotten no leads....

If by terminal emulator method you mean my thread about manually downgrading partitions, then yes, that's another effect of downgrading them, that you can then flash any KDZ you want.

Ok, I'm gonna give it a try. I'm hoping that I'll already have the flash tool up and it will see my phone in download mode.

Ok guys I finally got it to work! Ran the older 2014 flash tool. The trick I found to make my Asus i7 recognize my phone was a little strange. When i would let my phone boot up it would flash the led red and blue. Once I held the volume button up it would boot to a blank screen, but the phone was still on. This was the only time my laptop would download and install the correct drivers. From there i powered off, went into download mode and connected, then used the lg tool to flash the 10b kdz file.
All rooted and twrp'ed! Flashing 47a and I'm done!
Hopefully, sometime, somehow, this will help someone else with the same problem.
Thanks road warrior for the advice. Been a long 2 days...

Thanks. I am actually trying it now. But when I got to flash to stock I get "VSB98546A is not supported."
I also tried LG flash tool, set the port to 41, and I get an error "Download FAIL!!. Model information check fail.".
I used these files:
LGVS985_20140620_LGFLASHv160.dll
VS98510B_03.tot

I'll try using a different computer later
Tried with an older computer 32bit with usb 2.0 and it did the same thing. Toolkit said "VSB98546A is not supported," also tried the toolkit to instal twrp and it gave the same warning. LG flash tool fails because of model check. When you scroll up next to model is blank.
I also tried flashing a kdz using lg flash tool 2014 and it was jsut question marks. The status bar would go across on screen then nothing. Nothing ever changed on phone.
First things first. With the phone in download mode and connected to the PC via USB, when you look in Windows' Device Manager, do you see the phone listed in the Modem section?

The only KDZs you can flash from stock 46A are 35B or 47A. If you want to get to where you can easily root and install TWRP, you'll have to flash the 10B TOT using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ, then root using the Stump app and use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to flash TWRP. Then you can flash whatever bootstack and ROM you want.
You can get the 10B TOT and 35B .DLL from my Android File Host link at the bottom of @annoyingduck's stickied return to stock thread in the General section. You'll have to Google for the software to flash TOTs.

Thanks. I tried that too and got "model information check fail." I used these files:
LGVS985_20140620_LGFLASHv160.dll Is this the right dll file?
VS98510B_03.tot
I did more reading and it seems not using an LG cable can cause this. I tried with many brands but don't have an LG cable. If those are the correct files I guess my next step is to order an LG cable.

I can't tell by the filename alone if it's the right file. You can compare to what I have on Android File Host (link in the thread I mentioned).
The TOT file is likely correct. Yes, I always recommend using the original USB cable for flashing. Hopefully that's your solution.
Thanks so much for your help. Looks like I was using the wrong dll file. I used the one in this post below and it worked right away.

I had the same problem and was able to flash an old rom using the LG flashtool, here is a guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772199
But I had to use this dll file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63266194&postcount=84
After my phone reset during the flash it displayed 2 on the screen and did not pass. Just go into your PC's device manager and recheck the com port and change it back to 41. Mine changed as the phone reset during the flash process. Once I changed it back to 41 the flash resumed and the displayed 3 on the phone and the computer said pass.
MY Problem Has Been Recoverd By Flashing 35B KDZ using LG FLASH TOOL 2014. Easy and not need of any DLL file. Now i am on 47A using KDZ.
Thanks everyone

soft brick help please VS996

Hello friends:
seeking help with a soft brick V30+
Story: I've been running stock VS996 20i on a converted LS998. Now TWRP gets stuck on splash screen(TWRP-3.2.3-7-IntSD.img) after trying to dirty flash VS996_20j on an encrypted device. Mistake??? I think so, cause now phone wont boot to OS or to Recovery.
In download mode connected to LGUP+V30DLL_PATCHED; phone shows the VS996 20j.
Question: How do I get recovery back? Can it be done via download mode? Do I need to downgrade back to Nougat or can I reflash recovery from LGUP?
Thanks all!!!
20j TWRP has been having some issues. Take a look at that thread for help on how to get it back. You may just have to KDZ back to a working version. I hear the KDZ works fine, just the TWRP is failing. It's a work in progress still.
When I got stuck with 20j only way out was to lgup us998 N then to us998 O.. That was with DL partition tho.

So you basically Frankenstein'ed again, but your bootloader was already unlocked.
I'm sorry but has no one tried flashing 20i again................... Because that literally worked dozens of times for all the debugging I did for john.

The first guy said he lost TWRP, so he couldn't flash the 20i zip again. And flashing full KDZ 20i in LGUP would just give stock VS996 with no fastboot flash commands to reinstall TWRP. Unless I'm misunderstanding your suggestion.

The zip wouldn't have gotten rid of twrp. It does nothing to the recovery partition. It just doesn't work that way.

Let me add a quick query here or start new thread, idk. Us998, messed up recovery, laptop says unauthorized device in adb. No boot either, what are my options?
Been out-of-town for a bit, so just wanted to thank everyone who contributed remarks.
As described before...after the dirty flash of 20j, phone could/would not boot back into recovery. It either boot-looped or got stuck on the splash screen. So I decided the easiest way to get working was to use LGUP to downgrade back to N. Essentially, repeating the Frankenstein process. Now I'm back to 20i again.
I'm just wondering if it was the encryption which caused the issue to begin with. Perhaps there is a conflict with dirty flashing ROMs on an encrypted OS?
IIRC, flashing over encrypted Data partition almost always ends up with bootloops, no boot or in worst cases a brick. But then that's in twrp. I don't think lgup flashing does that since it repartitions everything if you go with DL..
