Help! Root moto e 2015/4g LTE marshmallow - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've followed countless guides to no avail. My bootloader is unlocked. I have Android Studio and SDK. I've placed the TWRP recovery image in the SDK platform-tools folder and ran the flash commands to get file not found error.
What am I doing wrong?

BillyMumfry,
just got me a tesco moto e lte and am looking for good guide, which is best? also, my phone has upgraded itself to Marshmallow, is this gonna be a problem - I think a factory reset should send it back to 5.1?
any help many thanks. len

Hey Len,
Which type if guide are you after? Something on Moto e in general? Or on Root and ROM matters? I'd be happy to help if I can.
Things have been a little weird for the past few weeks. People are reporting corrupt SD cards, data loss and general issues we deal with during testing or breaking in periods. For that to be happening to so many this late into their "expertise" leads me to believe it originates from Marshmallow itself, Google or Open GApps.
Any way I'm getting hit bad. System crashes and apps becoming suddenly "incompatible" . I seem to have found a stavkd configuration although its with a pretty lame ROM and Kernel. So I figured I'd go Full GApps for the next week or so.
OK, so you got the OTA update from your provider? Is that correct? And you want to factory reset but think you wikk get shoved back down to 5.1.1?
Sent from my aosp_surnia using XDA-Developers mobile app[quotesI don't think the update to Marshmallow should be an issue for you. You may have to deal with some minor glitches but from my own experience getting the MM update I don't recall any major issues. Are you using a custom ROM?
I'll send you some Links in the morning of resources I've found helpful.
What I think I found the most helpful though was playing around in a terminal emulator. Be careful though if you enter the wrong command itll put you in bad spot.
In a terminal enter: >"getprop" no quotes to see all the info about the device and file system and memory... Ad infinitum it seems. Im learning a lot from using ADB to PULL any log I can. Those were real hard to read at first. But first start easy with an emulator that you can get from the playstore. Enter > "toybox" or, if installed enter > "busybox" They will list all the other commands available to you. Entering "help whatevercommand" or "whatevercommand info" will show you the full function and usage of that command.
Hope this helps any,
Feel free to PM or email with some more specifics

cheers Bill, have rooted now but will study your info. thanks

[Q] d7015

i have a dopo (double power) d7015, the about tablet says the model is d7018. i've messed it up and didn't make a backup... does anyone have ANY info on these tablets? like if it is a rebranded other model? or any roms i can flash to it? i've tried putting 2 different roms on through the built in recovery, but it fails and says no more space on device.
originally i played with the advanced install of busybox installer, and that started problems... first thing i noticed was the 0 total internal space... i restored to factory settings, but the problem persisted and it wouldn't obtain an ip address, so i input it manually and could use the browser... but it was all pretty moot because of the messed up internal storage. i tried to adb shell into it, and was told that /system/bin/sh didn't exist... i found a binary online and pushed it, then could open a shell...
then i noticed that busybox was still in xbin, and i read in a forum that busybox being in /system/xbin could cause mount issues, and recommended to copy the binary into /system/bin. after that the internal storage showed properly, but wifi wouldn't even turn on.
i've tried reversing the process but can't get wifi to turn on at all... from what i've gathered in forums, most people upon getting into this situation flashed and all was well... but i can't find a stock rom for the tablet, or any other rom that's worked in my efforts...
i guess the main things i had in mind are either a stock rom i can use with the recovery that came on it, or another rom and a little help getting it on there... last flashing experience i really had was with my neo freerunner a while back...
but ANY help would be appreciated greatly!
thank you in advance!
still nothing? gonna try digging around for something again... if i find anything i'll update. i finally got my tablet going, but with pretty regular problems. now it seems like there's bad sectors in either the cache or data partitions because after i get so far into getting all my apps on there (from store) gplay services and account management and all types of other stuff starts force closing constantly... it's pretty maddening. i've had the most luck only installing a bare minimum of apps and only using it for browsing reddit and other small stuff, but before all the trouble i could do so much more!
totally given up on the dopo tablet... if anyone find something please post here!

Wow... Still nothing. ive found a way to build the images for the tablets like these... But I don't even have an x86 arc comp to build it with! Only chrome book and raspberry pis .

Cube T9 - No adb commands after reset

I don't know where to start so I'll just begin...
My Cube T9 is using the stock rom with the latest ota update, rooted with busybox and xposed. ( and I didn't backup anything :crying: )
I started having issues with low internal space so I installed link2sd pro. That seemed to work well enough but now I've noticed a few icons missing from my desktop and nav bar after rebooting. I figured this would probably would work better if I reset everything and stated fresh so I did. After reboot, I couldn't connect to the internet because of the dreaded nvram error which I found accompanying a missing imei and serial number. (can you say "schlep-rock"?)
Since I couldn't download from the play store, I tried pushing some files over to the /data/local/tmp and all was fine. I went to use chmod, ls and dir but they were not found.
Now, I just wanted to get it back to functional. Where do I begin?
no expert here but
As title states I am no expert but in my past experience with galaxy tab 1 2 3 and 4 and now t9 after root and using app2sd missing icons after reboots were a norm. For some reasons it seems like missing registries (not a clue was its called in android talk)
My t9 is still not rooted. Think I'll wait it out a bit. Reading too many horror stories.
Have you installed any root explorer?
If so, maybe this is the way? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197378

Thanks for the info.
I haven't installed anything else because now root seems to be no more and I get this parsing error when I try to install anything. I was trying the install-apk-from-google-drive but now that is a no go with no wifi.
Most issues resolved!

I was able to get everything except the serial number fixed by flashing a v1.02 rom in sections (boot, system, userdata, etc). I've tried every version of flashtool and sp flashtool to no avail. I kept scouring the links of google that led me to a treasure trove of goodies. Down toward mid-page is what helped me. It's called the "Universal Android Flasher". The only thing I couldn't flash was the recovery.img but I'm not complaining.
All apps install and function fine. No permissions issues at all. Rooted with iRoot. I'm still looking for a serial number fix but I'm not to concerned about that either because wifi is working and my cell service. I'll update again when I figure out this serial fix.
Happy days are here again!
Does anyone know how to access the recovery partition through the adb shell? I've tried /recovery, /dev/recovery and /dev/block/mmcblkOp8 but I can't access. Is there an app that can show me all of the symbolic links?
Thanks

help rooting Rand McNally Overdryve tablet

Hi, I would be grateful if someone could help me root and install a custom rom on this device. Please refer to the 3 images showing detailed information about my tablet.
Thank you very much for your help.
hey did you ever get this rooted?
Hi guys. I am also very much interested in root for this device. If we manage root on this it will become extremely useful. Please lets keep the thread active. II havent been in this forum for a while now as I didnt have an android device since I sold my Note 5.
I suggest we contact any of the forum members who are advanced in these matters to assist us with the root for Overdyve.
I'm Interested as Well
I'm going to try to dive in and see if I can figure out rooting my Overdryve. Since they don't seem to sell too many of these, I think we'll have to figure out how to do this without a nifty app. If anyone has any thoughts/pointers/useful articles, perhaps they'd share them.

I agree with you 100%. We really need to stick together on this and help each other out noting that these devices are very few. In the event we are unable to root the device is there any other way of enabling Google Play Services without requiring root? If I can get support for the Google services I will be good to go. Currently most of Google apps are not supported. Thankfully Google Maps works as I absolutely needed this to work as the Rand navigation software is not located in my country. I bought this to use away from USA and so far the most disappointing issue is that Rand disabled support for Google apps.
I will read widely and support you where I can.
I bought the Overdryve 7 a few days ago and there is literally NOTHING out there to help Root it, install a custom recovery, or how to install Google Play Services. I have tried rooting it with KingoRoot and King Root but to no avail. I haven't resorted to such generic methods to root anything since Towel root. This is why TWRP is essential to have.
Bump :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Please delete. Wrong thread.
Still nothing new
I have the Overdryve 7, and 8 Pro... hoping that someone out there much smarter than I has been working on this. Eager to make these thing earn their cost back.

overdryve 8 pro, been rooted for a while now, but Id like to get the OTA updates that ive missed over the last year, and i keep hitting a snag on the OTA verifier...
/system/bin/install-recovery.sh has ben modified... sha1 doesnt match...
there was another file too, but when I rooted, SU made a backup of the other file so i just switched it and it passed SHA1 check.... but SU didnt take a copy of this file for back up...
any ideas? ive tried changing it to a .bak but then fails becuase file is missing....
anyone have a stock 8 pro, unrooted ever, that they can turn on just USB debugging and try to copy the file original file out for me thru ADB debug if possible?
Or anyone know the ile contents for that file on Android 5.1.1 build LMY49I/N8_1_0_170516_275
I wanted up load more detailed specs.... I also have the new OTA update zip, like I said it just goes too error tho because the install-recovery.sh file sha1 doesn't match because I have rooted, and SU remove root and factory reset do not return the original file
Oops file is here
I just wanna be able to install Google play store. Anyone have any luck.

Has anyone figured out how to install Google play services and play store. I got as far as getting an early version of Google store to work without crashing but now it says it can't connect to the Google servers. Oh well something's gotta work.

ADB Help please

I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I looked around a bit but I didn't get anything except more confused. So here's my issue, I'm a noob at all this rooting/programming business so before I messed with my nice phone I've been practicing on a LG L15G Sunrise TracFone running android 4.4.2. I gained root access with Kingroot, started to remove some bloatware that seemed safe to uninstall but I was wrong. Something I removed is now causing my settings app to crash. As soon as you try to open it, it just crashes. I don't have a recovery and can't find a rom anywhere for this particular phone. SO, since it's a $10 phone that I only use as a mp3 player anyway I'm not too concerned so I just want to fix it to see if I can and maybe learn something. I have an idea to restore the phone and my main question is can you request admin rights for an app on the phone if i hook it up to my PC with adb shell? If so what are the commands, or scripts, whatever you call it. And my second question is again about using adb console. I want to install an apk file onto the phone, but since my settings don't work, I can't get to the security tab to allow apps from unknown sources. Is there a way to turn this on with adb? Or somehow install the apk manually without permission.
Yeah you should be able to install a program and authorize root access, I don't know about kingroot I haven't heard great things but otherwise what's the point of root. Try installing flashfire and see if you have root access (careful with flashfire it's powerful).. If not I might recommend trying to replace kingroot with supersu like in the following post

Thank you all for your help. I did find the info on another thread and I now have unknown sources enabled. I was planning on replacing kingroot with supersu, there's plenty of tutorials on that floating around. Just wanted to regain access to my settings first before I made things worse. So now I have an idea, tell me if it's stupid. one of the apps i removed screwed the phone up, don't know which one, however, I was able to find apk files of the apps i uninstalled deep in the root browser. If I took these and reinstalled them back in their rightful spots as system apps would everything fall back into place like it never happened? Cuz that would be cool. I've never spent enough hours on this $10 phone I could have bought 10 of em by now if i was working lol. Just glad I was smart enough to take the time to learn this crap on a cheap phone instead of bricking my Moto X on the first go round. thanks for the help guys.

It should. As long as you have a copy of the app. I haven't been using the new root browser, but idk if it has a recycle bin.

Upgrading problems on Samsung P7510 tablet to Marshmallow

I'm trying to upgrade my Samsung p7510 10.1 tablet from Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 to either Marshmallow or Nougat, or better. I've installed TWRP 3.1.1 and rooted with SuperSu. I've had to assume root has worked as can't download root checker onto my tablet.
So, far I've managed to find a version of Marshmallow "ROM-STOCK_MMB29K-seed.zip" on androidfilehost.com. But when I try installing I keep getting error message "Updater process ended with signal: 4". I've wiped the Data, cleared the Cache and Dalvik Cache. Also searched the internet for info on the signal 4 problem but not found much other than to remove the "assert" line from the updater-script file in the OS zip.; that did nothing.
So, a few questions:
- Anyone know where I can get OS zips from for a Samsung P7510?
- And any ideas on resolving the signal 4 issue?
- Any other ideas?
P.S. The only reason I'm updating is I want to use it for Kindle but can only reach HTTP sites, not HTTPS. Assumed that is because it's so old that everything is out of date. And that stops me from downloading anything from just about anywhere, including Google Play.
P.P.S I have searched the forums but couldn't find anything helpful or with links that worked.
Thanks in anticipation
Might I suggest the stabelest ROM I've ever run on my P7510. I've had this installed on mine for over a year now. There are of course some minor bugs.
The signal 4 issue is most likely a Binary issue and should no longer be relevant since you should reset the device to factory and start over. Another thing is once you Root it you can't download from Google play because you now have an unverified device, it has something to do with Google Pay. You'll want to look for APKs. Although SuperSu is usable, you're going to want Majisk insted. I hear of some problems using SuperSu.
I have these files here in my PC if any of the links no longer work but you'll want to know how to flash it so you'll need the video. I'll check back soon and drop a link to my files. if you need them. I'd need to upload them to my Google Drive first.
If you have any other difficulties I'm usually here about once every week.
P.S. Your tab is better than a Kindle and I would not suggest using it as such, it runs pretty crappy that way . Amazon does have an app you can use. And I see that you have been having difficulties finding Operating Systems for your tab and yes it's because the P7510 first hit the market in March of 2011 there aren't many people doing much with it anymore. There's about 3 or 4 of us left.
Firstly, thanks for your help @Casper Young .
In particular the video was brilliant. I did have a few runs at the update, however, the process was very straightforward. The key issue was the TWRP version I was using. It was supposed to be for the P7510, but realised it was actually for the P7500, consequently the aosp files weren't loading. I think that was also the cause of the errors I was getting. And although none of the links were working I managed to get the file names from the video and sourced them from androidfilehost.com:
twrp2870-20150814-p4wifi.tar.md5
aosp-7.1-p4wifi-20170506.zip
Once I had those it was simple and the update worked smoothly.
I've also added the app from apkpure.com as Google play was a complete pain trying to get the tablet recognised. Now very pleased with the build and apps, all running very smooth.
thanks again
Glad you had no problems. There are some minor bugs. Flash doesn't work for the camera. And check your memory capacity. I use Apex Launcher for my home screen which organizes better for me.
