Which moto e should i purchase? I will use the phone strictly for modding & flashing roms. Are these phones identical?
No. Vzw version is bootloader locked. Boost / sprint are SIM locked.

Hey I just purchased the Moto E xt1527 5.0.2 I am wondering if you can achieve unlock out of the box, as well as root? I read that the xt1526 were unable to be unlocked? My carrier is cricket if that helps. Thanks!
Xt1526 most definitely unlockable.... You can go to Motorola website and see if your phone is able to do so. In pretty sure it is. If you look elsewhere on forum you should see many things for xt1527

Unfortunately, cricket is now owned by AT&T. And they will not allow you to unlock the boot loader. In dealing with the same
I have had att and unlocked my Samsung galaxy 2 active as well as my HTC one m8 on att?
According to Motorola, they don't have an agreement with att to unlock the bootloader.

Have you tried https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a to see if you can unlock the bootloader? I was thinking about buying the cricket device, depending on if this works or not.
I have an AT&T version of Moto E 2015. The develop options have the option "OEM unlocking", but even with that option checked, the Moto website still does not allow me to unlock my phone. What should I do to unlock it?
Nothing. The AT&T-branded XT1527 cannot be bootloader unlocked.
If you're wanting to use a bootloader-unlockable Moto E on AT&T, there are other models that will do the trick (and have all the important bands used by AT&T):
Moto-direct XT1527
Canadian XT1527
US Cellular XT1526 (via GSM-enabling trick)
I Went through the process to get the phones ID and contacted motorola and they wont release the unlock code to me, what can i do now to be able to root my phone. Its a Moto E 2015 xt1526 surnia on the republic wireless network.
Hello.
I've gotten a Motorola Moto E XT830C CDMA phone from USA.
Being in Europe, Ukraine, Kiev I've brought this phone today to a local operator and they told me that after fighting with it whole day, they give up and proclaim its impossible to flash to their carrier (Intertelecom) because it is locked to Tracfone.
I noticed that this device is in the official Motorola bootloader unlock list.
But I havent found a guide anywhere how to unlock from tracfone carrier?!
The help is appreciated!
Thanks
I am looking to buy a moto e 2nd gen (2015) to use with a gsm carrier.
I also want to be able to try out all of the roms that are available on these forums.
I am looking on ebay, but I am not clear which models are gsm unlocked and have a unlockable bootloader.
Can someone enlighten me?
I found a bunch of at&t xt1527s, but I saw someone say that those are do not have unlockable bootloaders.
Can someone help me find one?
Thanks.
Hi! You can buy XT1524 or XT1526 US Cellular and you`ll have 4G on GSM and more important - ability to unlock bootloader / 1526 at&t- without 3g and 4g on GSM but with ability to unlock bootloader . XT1527 have 3G and 4G support on some GSM carriers but it`s not qualifying for bootloader unlocking. XT1528 /1529 are also not eligible for bootloader unlocking . I strongly recommend you to buy XT1524 or XT1526 US Cellular.
