Does anybody know a ROM with vanilla android and the tablet ui?
I'm just fed up with the new android version with their unusable tablet interfaces, so i wanted an old ROM that still has a Tablet ui. Unforunately most of the old download links are dead but i'm sure somebody here can help me.
If theres no other way i'll also take a sony ROM.
Thanks in advance for any responses...

You didn't specify device model, without it will be difficult to help you.
Also to restore tablet ui you can use mod for 4.2.2 firmware or Xposed module for 4.4.4

I logged in after about 3 years and realised, that I never responded. Thank you very much. I'm now using LineageOS and the Tablet is still running. And I guess Android Tablets are dead but I'm planning to use this one as long as possible.

Let's open a new thread for this device. The device is interesting and I think it will get popularity.
I have this device. Need community assistance!
I have this device, it runs ICS 4.0.4, feels quite old.
I wanted to updated this to Jelly Bean at least, many popular apps are not available in the store, or simply do not work with it.
No 'Talking Caller ID' app works with it currently, all of them say 'Call from Unknown'.
I'm willing to compile Cyanogenmod from source if necessary (if and when I learn how to do it), but I'd like to create an existing image backup for my device first. Also, I'll need to ensure that the Landline App and DECT 6.0 features from Panasonic would work on my new rom.
Any tips anyone? Or am I looking at the impossible?

Hi,
I rooted the KX-PRX150 with installing NewKingrootV5.0.0_C161_B367_xda_release_2016_11_23_20161123203507_105243.apk . I was able then to change the verison of android from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. int the build.prop file. - no new rom installed. -That's allows me to receive video calls from whatapp. Outgoing vido calls are still not possible. Still looking for a solution.
Kind regards,
Andreas
Hi there,
Probably a silly question, I have a SGP312 and it is on Lollipop since 3 years, do you think is there a way to upgrade to the latest Android 8.1?
If not 8.1, what would be the highest version I can go and how?
The Tablet is essentially a stock one, I never did anything on it, just applied the Sony updates they made available for this old model.
Thank you,
Alex

Hello!
It's quite possible to install even the latest 8.1, though it is still not that stable now.
If you want 99% bug-free experience, i would stick to android 7.1.2, like Resurrection Remix ROM till 8.1 gets to a polished state.
Check this guide for installing custom ROMs on device.
Thank you for the link!
I will give it a try very soon.

Hi buddies,
I have a Sony Xperia Tablet Z (Model: SGP321) with Lollipop v5.0.2.
I had rooted it since a couple of years, so no need to say, it couldn't be upgraded to any higher version of android.
Now I unrooted it and wanna upgrade its android.
My questions:
1. What's the highest Android version officially released for this model?
2. What's the best version you advise me to install on it?
Thanks for your kind & prompt reply.
Cheers,
Leon

Hello!
1. The latest official firmware is android 5.1.1 (v.10.7.A.0.222 or 10.7.A.0.228 depending on region, though internally they are identical).
You can update via xperia-companion software.
2. What's the best only you can say. If stock sony one works good for you, stick to it.
If you have knowledge how to install, and want to try something "custom", there are firmwares based on android 7.1.2 and 8.1 on this forum.
The media players on my Xperia sgp312 keep pausing, has it got something to do with the software, I am still on Android 5.1.1

Hi there,
Since its a GENERIC TABLET made by an unknown Chinese manufacturer, it's impossible to get a firmware update. The best way is for you to create a custom version of android using LINEAGE OS, and also porting a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP. But even though you have successfully created the OS you might not be able to install it on your Chinese Tablet.
Anyways if something happened during the process here's the link to download the stock firmware for that tablet :
https://www.cfirmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=file-info&id=8942
USE SPFLASH TOOL TO install the firmware since it is an MTK device.
Sincerely

Yeah i started to go that route but have been unable to find a recovery for it or a lineage version for it. is it possible to use a twrp and linage for a different but similiar tablet?

Hi there,
Yeah Twrp is just a recovery software, and Lineage is just a custom ROM, so you can use it on a different tablet. But again you have to port those two software for it to work.
However you can research it on google to see how to port them on different phones or tablets.

I acquired a china tablet running lollipop 5.1.1 arm64v8
The board is al-mt81xx-86v1 with a cpu 8163
Kernel version 3.10.72 [email protected] #6
Build number HY U804MC_20190517_V1.1.00
Custome build version ALPS.L1.MP8.V_ALONG8163.E_p9
Recovery doen't work, just shows a sideways Android with no choices.
I would love a recovery that works and possibile the stock rom.
I can use my puter and get to adb root.
and the bootloader is already unlocked.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Do you know which commercial Alps tablet is the direct ancestor of your custom U804MC? Maybe if you found the firmware for that, you could fix this.
Thanks for replying

I finally got TWRP ported into the recovery, its upside down on the screen ( ie. you swipe the top when the image is on the bottom )but its at least working
I really want to thank you for replying, Staysafe and COVID free.
Do you think maybe you ported a TWRP for MT8127 into your MT8163? Could be incompatible?

To port TWRP you need the same processor and kernel version for donor and stock....It is the fastest way to port I think

A Stock ROM is the ROM that gets installed by manufacturer on the Android device.
What you want to achieve is to replace phone's Stock ROM ( is Android 11, HIOS 7.6, got compiled by Techno Spark ) by an Android 12 ROM what is suitable for this device. Either ask Techno Spark for such a matching ROM - don't think they can offer one ) or do a Google search for it.

I heard of Flashing GSI's
Installing a GSI is device-dependent. Refer to your device's manufacturer for the exact tools and procedures.
