Honor 7 Buy, Need Expert Advice - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I'm planning to own a Honor 7. Been seeing review in websites and youtube for a while. Almost made a decison to go for it. But I thought I will get some expert advice from this forum. Right now I'm using Xiaomi Mi 4 and do you guys think its good to upgrade from Mi 4 to Honor 7? I'm not a power user. Let me explain what I'm looking for:
1. Camera (Very Important, as I post pics often in Instagram about food) Not a selfie addict. I'm not so happy with Mi 4 camera
2. Sound (Important factor again for any phone, Mi 4 has good speakers and receiver. Quality is crisp and loud)
3. Battery (Things I do in phone is Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp and Calls)
4. UI (Mi 4 MIUI is good, just like a iOS)
So these are the things I look for in priority. Like I stated above I'm not so happy with the Mi 4 camera and I'm looking to upgrade. So If I choose Honor 7, is this a right choice to complete all this needs?
Is H7 camera better than Mi4?
Is H7 sound qulaity better than Mi4?
I think battery and UI is something depends on my usage and likes, so I'm keeping that as not priority.

Battery isn't great. Miui seems better the emui. Speakers are OK. If I had my choice again I'd go for a mi5 or redmi note 3 or to be honest a redmi 3 would have suited me better than the honor 7

1. Camera is pretty good. With the good light it is very very good. And you have the special 'food filter'. You have the manual mode which is nice too
2. I think it is the only weakness of Honor 7. But only the external speaker. There is no stereo sound and also the quality of music on the highest volume is poor. But quality with the headset is great.
3. Battery for me is good. Not great, not bad. I can do one day (and a half sometimes) and I consider myself a really hard user.
4. UI is great. Also similar to iOS. A lot of great features.

Thanks for your reply. I fell for the 20 mp Camera. As my Mi 4 camera not that great. So I thought I will cope up with other things like UI and battery. Many reviews said battery back up is good. So I guess in reality battery sucks, may be.

Decent camera and picture quality?

Hi everyone!
I have been thinking about buying a redmi 3 mostly because it has a good cpu, long battery life and runs a newer version of Android. I currently own a Samsung Note 2 (no official lollipop update). I really like the pictures taken by the Note 2, specially under low light mode. I could not find a good review about the quality of the pictures taken by the Redmi 3. What are your opinions?
Thank you!
Cannot say about the quality to your Samsung but this compares Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi5Pq0FDQAU
Poor camera, in low light unusable. Huawei P7 have much better camera.
Redmi 3 have adopted Samsung chip, same like on A5 and A7, and we can just hope that Xiaomi will improve camera experience by software upgrades.

Thanks for the comment, miljenko. The photos taken in good light conditions are also poor? Have you tried other camera apps to see if the pictures have a better quality? Would you recommend this phone?
actually the camera on the Pro version is amazing. Got great photos on it so far.

Do you mean Redmi Note 3 pro? I am asking about the Redmi 3, not the Redmi Note 3.

Phone itself is very good. Sturdy, amazing battery, fast, etc, but camera is not good. In good ligh conditions photos are acceptable for closer objects, anything further is hit and miss. For the price very good phone.
As people are talking about Note 3, for me MTK is not an option and 5,5 inch is too big.

MTK in Redmi Note 3 is comparable to Snapdragon 800 (even in single core performance) and it's much much faster then Snapdragon 616 used in Redmi 3 (2-3x faster) - and you feel it when you have this phone in hand.
Camera is ****ty in Redmi3.

I have another MTK 6752 phone and it is fast like lightning but there is something odd with it. Qualcomm have more fluid operations and simply it is different.
Sorry for off topic.

I have redmi 3 pro. Before that i used lumia 830, xperia z1 and iphone 5c. Redmi has lovest quality camera of all listed devices in low light conditions. Also, auto focus is bad in day light. Redmi is good device for price, but camera is like in all generic chinese phones.
Coming from a galaxy s4, the redmi 3's camera is poorer. Image is just not as sharp. However, it does have faster autofocus and shutter speed than s4. Wouldn't be using the camera for any serious photography.

I am very satisfied with the Redmi 3's camera in normal light conditions. HDR is also working pretty good giving high contrast and nice saturation.
Here some example pictures i took:

Camera die after 4 months used
U should not to think about it. I have bought redmi 3 and used a few month. Now camera error. It said "can't connect to camera"
It s hardware issue.
There's a Note 3 with a Snapdragon 65x, too.
Can't complain, i can squeeze some good photos out of the Redmi 3, its not GOOD like an iPhone or Lumia but it does the job (unless there's poor lighting).
The microphone isnt very good for loud recordings.

Frankly thought on Xiaomi mi note 2, Pros/Cons

I want to share my opinion pros/cons after use this device for a week. I would frankly say what is good, what is bad.
The unit i have is Xiaomi mi note 2 128gb/6gb non-global version.
cons:
color shift on curve edges, it look abit blue by eye ( when screen is display light tone - white ). This not effect with dark tone color ( It look normal from flat to edges curve )
camera it come with older build compare to mi5s which announce 2 months before mi note 2. Mi note 2 come with imx318 which release since Feb 2016 compere to mi5s come with imx378 which release on Sep 2016. Look at that gap for possible improvement make me feel abit disappoint. ( but it also has a pros from sacrifice **see in Pros**)
It doesn't come with 3D touch (T_T)
LTE bands for non-global version. Why they remove FDD B8. but mi5s have 5 bands include B8
Benchmark Performance for 128/6gb model abit disappoint. It only get around 110k-125k on antutu, 1800SC 3900MC on Geekbench. Compare to other phone with this spec even mi note 64/4gb got higher. You also can see from this link: https://www.kimovil.com/en/best-smartphones-moviles/best-smartphones-antutu-benchmark
( I think this must be a software issue, with this spec it can improve with better ROM and Kernel. Still waiting for it )
Announce on the same day with Mi mix. Which pull down the hype on mi flagship (mi note2). Cause less developer taking eyes on mi note 2 over Mi mix by comparing on both forum.
Price per performance compare to mi5s.
Pros:
Battery 4070 mAh. DAMN!!! this make no wonder using this phone through a day. Daily use, message, phone call, browse, social, take photo, Bluetooth streaming, gaming, watch youtube still get spare juice before go to bed. No need to carry power bank around.
Feeling so good on hand. Its thin with that battery size. The dual curve edge feel premium. Whole Metal build + gorilla glass.
Spec sheet. even though i talk about performance above, But with this spec hardware there is huge gap to improve by software later.
Camera. Sacrifice newer model but what we get is image stabilization @4K and higher Megapixel. wide angle front facing camera.
Sound both on speaker and headphone quite good.
Equip with all kind of connectivity even infrared.
Fast and accurate fingerprint sensor.
Conclusion:
In real world scenario, i didn't feel any lag or slow performance. It still one of the fast/best phone in the market today. Camera is good just dont read the spec sheet. Feel premium on hand. Huge battery capacity more than enough for daily use, plus quick charge. Good sound. fast fingerprint scan. Have to wait abit for custom rom and kernel. Better if you can get global version.

SD 821 is much more powerful than tegra x1 and yes it plays 10 bit hevc videos. I have Nvidia shield TV too, ja it's good but SD 821 is faster and better.

Yes, I saw many 4gb mi note 2 benchmark around 145-160k. With my unit (6gb mi note 2) i expect to see better ram performance but i got even lower than 4gb model. I think with newer rom update could improve ram management on 6gb model.
But as i said on original post that real world use i didnt get any pull down performance.
Do you need to wake the phone to use the fingerprint sensor? Or is it like most phones that can be woken up and unlocked with a fingerprint scan?

You have to press to the home/fingerprint sensor to wake and unlock the phone at the same time.
How is the display of the mi note 2? Many reviewers are quite disappointed by the display. I wonder how sharp it is because of 5.7" amoled screen. Pentile matrix and 1080p resolution with that screen size could be a concern for me.
I just can't decide between MI note 2 and oneplus 3t...oneplus is much much cheaper than MI note 2 in 128 GB configuration and I guess it will be available much faster than mi note 2. But I want the edge screen so badly.

Frankly I would say that display is better then any other IPS screen in terms of color reproduction. Brightness is fine but Xiaomi 5s is brighter at max. It is not an issue for me because I keep brightness at 80%, in bright condition. Here's a bad thing I think, the screen changes to bluish tint if you look at it at angle but most noticeable if display is white. When it comes to sharpness it's fine to me but I think many people will say it's not sharp enough because they just happen to know that there are 2k displays on the other phones. They would never guessed what resolution particular displays has by just looking at it. OnePlus 3t it might be better in some aspects but personally it's looking boring to me and I would never consider one for myself. Besides I hate when camera frame is taller/higher than surface as it's case with OnePlus. The other thing you have to put in consideration is MIUI and for now there is no global firmware but I flashed Xiaomi.eu ROM and it's flawless. There are other phones in the same category like Leeco le pro 3 or vivo xplay6. Best regards

Ihave not read this wrong, as of November, there has been a 128GB/6GB combination of the 5.7" Xiaomi Mi Note 2 with a Global ROM? Or the CN one with litterally 4 or 5 unlocked bands?
So this phone must be woken up for the finger print to work. It doesn't try reading a fingerprint tap on the button and ,must be woken up to work?

That is correct, but still it's done by one touch, while yu pressing the button the fingerprint scanner is unlocking the locked screen at same time.
Mi note 2 global version is about to be realest but all my Xiaomi mi phones are compatible in my country ( Denmark) so I am not bothered.

I think the word disappoint for display of mi note 2 is under expectation. Everyone who plan to buy this phone would expect to see gorgeous IPS curve display. But after you get the phone hand on and the color on the edge doesn't seem as expectation so it would be abit disappoint.
As a mi note2 user I would say first impression was abit disappointed for display. The color on curve edge seem abit blue (only on white background) and abit warm tone display (compared to 1+2 i had used before mi note2).
But after using this phone for few days you will get use to color of display. Now i didn't feel any color change on the curve edges (after get used to) but the curve edge of screen still make you feel good on hand. Normally we look directly to screen not to the curve so right now color on the curve doesn't make me feel bad otherwise curve is still curve every time you hold your phone you always feel good on hand.
Thanks for the feedback. I personally don't care about other phones 2k displays (VR is not of relevance for me at all). I'm running the redmi note 3 pro international at the moment and the display is just fantastic. I just don't want a downgrade in display quality for my next phone which will cost about 4x more than the redmi note 3. In general the note 3 pro is already the perfect phone for its price tag (except for camera quality) but I always happened to be one of the enthusiast guys and I'm very curious about the curved screen.
An other thing that bothers me is the battery life. Reviewers speak about 4-5hrs on screen time. On the note 3 you can easily get between at least 7 hrs up to 10 hrs for some ppl. The difference in screen size is just 0.2 inches and the capacity is the same.
So what is the battery life for you guys?
The camera seems to be decent but it seems that pixel and s7/edge still play in their own league tho...
BTW: is anyone using the edge functions on the mi note 2?

1. Yes, bootloader must be unlocked and TWRP for Mi note 2 must be flashed at first.
2. There is a guide on xiaomi.eu site how to do it : https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-12-29.37056/

How is this compared to nexus 5?

I am on a nexus 5, fed up with slow Oreo and low battery and no Volte. How is this device comaped to N5? I will use a custom ROM like PE or LOS, so how is
1)Camera
2) Battery
3) Performance
Compared to nexus 5?
Did anyone updgrade from nexus 5? What is your opinion?
I am eyeing this device since it has official LOS.
Also, is there much difference while playing a game or casual use between SD800,625? Unable to decide between Lenovo Z2 plus and this device.
I will be getting the Snapdragon variant in my market

SD800 is slightly faster looking purely at performance but it heats up pretty quickly and is not very battery efficient (28nm. manufacturing process)
SD625 is amazing when it comes to battery because it's 14nm manufacturing process so the heat is much lower, it's incredibly power efficient and consumes way less battery and generally does not overheat.. it scores about 15k lower in Antutu which is still pretty good.
Camera in Redmi Note 4 is mediocre, Nexus 5 wins here.. especially stock. Homever there are camera mods which help to increase quality, like ported Google Cam with working HDR+.
Battery Redmi Note 4 will destroy Nexus 5, you will be getting atleast twice better battery life compared between the 2. (like i mentioned earlier it's due to the super power efficient SD625 and 14nm manufacturing process but also pretty big battery - 4100mAh)
Edit:
In thread title you are talking about Nexus 5 but in post you are talking about Lenovo Z2 Plus.. make up your mind, and yeah Lenovo Z2 Plus is much better than both Nexus 5 and Redmi Note 4.

It's decent but only in day light, night and low light pics are pretty bad, same goes for videos which additionally have some issues with LOUD sound, like in concerts. Just Google it, you should find samples easily.
Generally if you use camera alot I would not recommend Redmi Note 4.

Nexus 5 has a pretty bad camera too?. If it at par with nexus 5 , great! Else , bummer...
Hi, I have both. I actually upgraded from Nexus 5 (still have it, but with cracked sceen). The battery life can not be compared as the Nexus has very bad and the Note 4 has excellent. The camera middle range both (for me enough). My Note has 4G RAM, so the performance is better (newer phone anyway). The screen is also same category. The grip of the Nexus is way much better, than the very slippery Xiao. I really like my Nexus, that´s why I have it for like 3,5 years already, but dated a bit. The Note is 1 month old and I´m satisfied with it.
Sorry for the bad quality pic, but if you wanna compare the size it´s ok. The Note is somewhat larger and heavier.

You ever used moto g5 plus or Zuk Z2?
I had Nexus 5,Galaxy S6, HTC 10, Axon 7, Huawei P9 and now I "downgraded" to a Redmi Note 4 .
Battery life is awesome. I trip alot and I'm the only one in my group that dosen't carry a battery pack.
Performance is awesome. Yes,for like 15-20 minutes any Snapdragon 805+(805,810,808,820) is faster but the Snapdragon 625 dosen't throttle. In games it's solid as a rock. It's a little laggy in facebook but I don't mind.
Camera is ok. I have a Redmi Note 4 with a Samsung sensor. I have a pretty expansive DSLR if I want more but I never need more in a normal day. The dual flash is strong.
Screen is pretty meh. I have a Tianma pannel and after 4 months of usage I have 6-7 stuck pixels . I don't really mind as I don't really see them in day to day basis . It's not a great screen it's not a bad screen.
I'd buy the Note 4 if I were you.
I wouldn't buy a G5 plus if I were you. Moto delivered it with a 32 bit ROM. Yeah, you'll find 64bit ROMs on XDA but it's laggy, buggy and it will be for a while.

Used zuk z2 plus and redmi note 4 both... Zuk z2 heats too much.. Their ui is not good and battery life also low.... Go for redmi note 4
Either way, you'll be disappointed at some point. Nexus is nexus, nothing can replace that. You will be amazed with battery life but that's pretty much only thing this phone gives. I hate this phone , crappiest phone I've ever had. Run away from Chinese phones.

Battery life is awesome. The camera is mediocre (with Samsung or Sony sensor). With Omnivision sensor, the camera can be quite poor. If you are really into great photography, this is not the phone for you.

Can't wait to get MI8 back

Man was this bumpy ride.
So i've sold my mi8 a few weeks ago and tried few other phones:
First, i bought Samsung Note 9 - 430eur
- great phone, but a rubbish front camera, bad back camera portrait mode, no gcam support.
Then mate 20 pro - 450eur
- great camera but slow fingerprint reader, emui is a mess.
Then s10 - 510eur
- managed to endure just few days with this phone. Exynos version, horrible battery life, barely gor 3h of SOT.
Then oneplus 7 pro - 600eur
- I loved this phone, but man was it big and heavy.
So now i ordered my good trusty mi8 back. Great in hand feel, great camera with gcam, good battery life, and fasters fingerprint possible.
Is it perfect phone, no: big notch, no ultrawide camera, no ip rating or wifi charging.
But for 200eur it gives better user experiance then anny other phone.

I know what you mean. I owned Mi6 which was (and still is) a wonderful phone but I wanted to try something else. Changed a bunch of them but not one was a worthy replacement until I bought Poco f1, which was excellent, but touch problems were driving me nuts so I sold it.
Recently I bought Mi9t, but fingeprint and popup camera were so annoying I sold it and got a Mi8 which is a heck of a device, slim, light, fast and better phone to use than majority of new devices with their trendy but "pain in the ass" features (in -display fps, popup camera etc...)
Overview:
Samsung: currently One Ui is the best oem skin in my opinion, but they are too expensive, and their midrange phones are destroyed by competition in every aspect except for the screen quality. Have bad fps scanners and Exynos versions have lack of support.
Xiaomi: Best bang for buck, excellent fps, excellent support etc...only problem is battery drain on some Miui versions...
Huawei: Great hardware with the worst software...Emui is just ugly and outdated and really needs some refreshment. Also they are like android version of iOs, everything is locked, support is rubbish and you really need some knowledge to amuse yourself with some custom roms and tweaks.
Oneplus: Best of all in all regards, not so cheap anymore but they dont need to be, and they shouldn't be. Cameras not top notch but excellent support, superb displays, software etc... No matter what the price, the best.
LG: Good phones, but too expensive. V50 is maybe the best phone out there, but people are just not interested in them anymore, so the support will suffer also. Probably will follow HTC down the drain.
Nokia/Motorola/Sony: Not worth mentioning. Average at best, lack too many things....Was a fan of Sony for years, but after owning a few of them I was dissapointed. Motorola had some superb phones but they started to make same things like Nokia, midrange phones that nobody wants to buy, and I can't blame them.
Oppo/Vivo/Asus: They make some interesting phones, especially Realme who is destined to be the next xiaomi...looks promising but availability is still limited.
The only thing about which I'm not so excited is Miui 11....they messed up the system animations and make navigating the system slower than on Miui 10. I hoped it would make more sense to simplify things....but they didn't. If they don't change something I think this is my last Xiaomi device...

I completely agree! I have also owned many very expensive phones and the mi8 is by far my favorite. My son has a Samsung Note 9 and I will take my Mi8 anyday over his or his Wife's iPhone XS. No doubt, I love this phone and will stay with it for at least another year or two, and then I will buy another Xiaomi.
I have been a happy mi8 owner. Actually it's my first Xiaomi phone, and gosh, can't go back to others.
I have been tempted to upgrade to mi9 and 9T pro. However, after listening to comments from brothers/sisters here, i think i will keep my loyal mi8.

Yeah, not worth it, and it's coming from my personal experience. The only thing that's better on 9t Pro are looks (subjective)...Usability wise Mi8 is better. I even get the same battery life even though 9t has a larger battery...

i absolutely know how you feel, i had this experiece as well with MI8, P20 pro, Mate 20 pro and even the Mi9
Now i've a p30 pro and my girlfriend is using the Mi8. The photos of the mi8 with gcam are stunning and in some situations it knocks out the p30 pro easily (i terms with HDR)
the only reason i prefer the p30 pro is in battery life and for the reason it has a ultra wide angle lens.
Otherwise i would switch to mi8 back again.
Yes. Mi 8 is a great device. Especially with Miui 11 and Xiaomi.EU and GCam. Got it few weeks ago, but just as a spare and flashing phone. My daily driver is a s9+ Exynos with oreo and GCam and I absolutely love it. Made some GCam comparison between these phones. Almost identical but a big advantage is that the mi 8s SD offers instant zero shutter lag pictures. That's not possible with my s9+. And yes of course my s9 Gcam also doesn't offer a night mode. But that's ok. A Mi 8 with Stereo Speaker and QI would be so freaking awesome.

Yeah, I don't understand why Xiaomi cant build a phone with stereo speakers. I don't really care about wireless charging but the addition of Dolby and an extra speaker would be amazing. It's the only thing that I am missing from my old Le Pro 3, it had the most amazing speaker sound quality.

Most people who care about sound quality will use wired or bluetooth headphones.
How good can a small speaker sound on a small phone? Not to mention there is so much ambient noise? It's quite pointless.

That is your opinion, it seems that you haven't heard quality speakers on a phone. You would be surprised with how good it can sound. But of course it doesn't compare to larger speakers, with a default flat frequency range.
"It's quite pointless" What is the point of your post? Yes, I have high quality Bluetooth speakers. In fact several different types large and small. You don't see the value that is fine, stick with buying whatever you want. my point was that many phone manufacturers release phones with dual speakers. Xiaomi, doesn't seem to have any recently released phones with stereo speakers
I want stereo speakers because I play musical instruments and I don't always have the a bluetooth speaker with me, many decent quality phones also have pretty decent omnidirectional microphones, which are great for recording scratch tracks with an acoustic guitar. FYI scratch tracks are basically riff ideas, that you save and later build a complete song with those ideas. Another fun thing to do, is once you have recorded 8 bars, you can then loop it and then solo or play arpeggiated phrasing over top of the loop It's definitely a lot of fun. Stereo speakers enhance it and can further provide the ability to hear manually made effects, if merging multitracks.

Can You share where did U order it from, Matija?
I gave my 6/256 MI8 to my Dad. I am planning to get Mi 10....but I might just as well get another MI 8...not sure if MI 10 will be worth the price..compared to MI8...I do a lot of low light pics..and Aquarium pics...and MI 8 was awesome in that area.....
I order it in November 2019 by www.banggood.com in Spain.
I pay about 280€

Can you give me an advice? Which phone has better battery life and camera than s10 li

was determined to buy the s10 lite but I saw some comparison videos on the camera and now I'm changing my mind. The photos look "washed out" compared to other phones in the same price range.
I thought about: xiaomi mi 10 lite, one plus nord, honor 20 pro, huawei p30.
Do you recommend me? (without curved edges)
THANK YOU!!!

S10lite has a great camera
I've previously owned Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus devices. All were good in their own way. However, truth be told, the stability, battery life, speed of the S10 Lite is quality, such as are Samsung products overall. I still have my Mi 8 device, which I use for work, it's ok and Miui 12 is cool, but battery life suffered. Huawei, well to be honest it is slightly like a lesser version of Xiaomi, and as Honor is based upon Huawei there are close similarities. OnePlus make good phones. I haven't had the Nord but out of the 2 I'd still lean towards the S10.
I was always someone who liked rooting my device, playing around with kernels etc. You cannot do this with the S10. But, for me, this one time I'm stopped doing it from a practical sense (i.e. it is way too much effort!) I honestly do not miss it! Camera is good, I can still side load everything I want, good storage, great battery life, what's not to like?
