Best battery life rom? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently my battery drains fast.. like from 14 to 10 in about 2 mins.
Earlier there was no issue like this. I am running archidroid final version .
So will cm 13.1 nightlies do a good job on battery life? I want to use this phone for next couple of weeks until I buy a new phone. ( Looking at you OPT )
Please suggest me a good ROM. Thanks.

Honestly its either your battery dying or its the battery not being calibrated well.
It could also be that the ROM isn't optimized well or your governor isn't doing a good job, I'd say archidroid is pretty good but I'd look into adjusting the kernel settings a bit and possibly recalibrating the battery.
But then again your battery might be a bit old, if its showing signs of swelling then its probably the battery itself.

try RR LP V5.9.9 WITH BOEFFLA+XPOSED(GREENIFY AND AMPLIFY).

cm13.1 nightly (when released) will only be less optimized lol.
remember that official latest (13) cm is nightly, not stable.

Archidroid 1.7.18 with boeffla kernel, no tweaks I got 4 hours SOT with 50% battery left

I am not using the nightly, I flashed temasek's cm 13, and the battery life is now normal. With archidroid, even when not using the phone, the battery would drain really fast. Now it is stable, I think I must have messed up with the settings in archidroid.

Are you using stock battery? Or a battery with a bigger juice.
Thank you guys for the replies.
And no my battery is not swelling at all.
I will tell you guys a funny story. My power button on s3 was stuck... like it would power on and off continuously (this was a long time back, btw)
So I saw a youtube video, and he used a battery to hit the power button slightly and so did I. But I think I hit it hard, and it has a small dent in the battery ( this did not fix the power button at all) I used my mouth, as a vacuum to suck the power button up, and that trick did the work.
But it was working just fine, until 2 days ago. And now again, it is fine. I just have to use it a few weeks more anyways..

BUT first to change stock rom(original from manifacturer)i could play 2 hours and 1/2 sometimes 3 without trouble with battery at 30/35% left now i play 5 mins and my battery goes from 93% to 87% in 5 min
so 6%x12=72%battery lost in 1 hours its bad really bad! i also installed the battery fix but notthing!in idle without playing i lost 2/3% per hours so this is good.
someone have my same trouble? it is normal?if so i should install back stock rom?
if i get stock rom again the battery should be fine?
the elegant rom is on stock 2.3.7 i had 2.3.3 when i bought this phone
sorry for bad english i have not much time
thx everyone

Roms based on CM7.2 do drain battery massively compared to stock so going back to stock would help.
Battery callibration does not help - see Here
Same problem here... Living with it cuz stock has just become old and lazy
But if you really want battery switch to stock its way better than cm

There isn't a noticeable difference in both versions in terms of battery life. However, 5.7 has better performance and is noticeable.
You can try underclocking to something like 730 MHZ and save a decent amount of battery life without losing performance. Check this OC kernel out:
OC zImage
Also, use Cyanogenmod, ADW launcher without customizations is faster than the stock touch-wiz UI launcher.

For all those who r shouting that battery calibration doesnt improve battery.. Did the XDA said it improves battery life?? Do u ppl know wats the meaning of calibration?? Calibrating means adjusting something to the accurate value.. Not improving the value!! Even we never said it ll improve battery life.. Battery calibration just calibrates the reading to more accuarte one. So let the ppl calibrate it. Else leave. It ll automatically gets adjusted after 1 or 2 week.. U can see urself the change..

Yes, many members on XDA said that callibration improves battery life. The battery indicator on your status bar does not use batterystatus.bin. It does not automatically adjust after 1 week or 2. It re-calibrates every time you charge!
Read the article posted by XDA for more:
google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
well i dont know about you all
but on my phone battery percantage isnt that accurate
cause when i unplug phone from charger and just open game or do something battery percantage goes to like 90%
but when my battery percantage is low like 18% it holds 30mins on 18%
I've tested many roms here and stock rod do tend to have better battery life, but... When i tested the RAZRv3 by TeamCooper, it had extremly good battery life.
When i got my Ace it had froyo, that lasted about 2.5-3 days. I upgraded to gingerbread official, battery lasted about 1.5-2 days on. Then i tried several custom stock roms and they all lasted about 1-2 days.
After that i started testing CM7 (both 7.1 and 7.2) roms and most of them lasted 12-18 hours (i used the wifi disables 3g function and some other tweaks to last the battery longer otherwise those roms would not have been usable)
Then i got to the RAZRv3 i used it for 2 weeks and the battery was amazing, it lasted easily for 3 days with no other tweaks than "wifi disables 3g" and also the performance was good. No lag!
Then i tested the CM7.2byFAT and the battery was awful but i really liked the rom so i keep 3g disabled when i dont use internet (all background apps use 2g internet) and now the battery last for 2 days.
As i've tested.... 3g takes really alot of battery in CM7 roms but in RAZRv3 (cm7.1 based) it worked like a charm.
So.. Everyone who wants really good battery life should test RAZRv3 that can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478807

[Q] Xperia X10 Mini Pro poor battery life

Hello every one,
I am facing poor battery life with my x10 mini pro. Even I had my battery replaced recently. But still, the battery life is just about the same.
I tried following things...
1. Turning down the brightness down.
2. Turning off the data, background sync, 3g
3. Uninstalling the apps that runs on background
4. Deleting battery stats after installing new ROM (CM7 2.2.0)
I typically use my phone for 1hour of calls, 30mins of browsing, 1hour music playback, <20mins of gaming. And the battery will be drained in less than 8 hours.
And, another weird thing is, the battery fills up very very fast. It will take like 25mins to get to 100% from <15%.
Please, guide me what to do. This has been a serious head ache for me. Will flashing back to Eclair, Donut will solve the issue?
Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem!
I suggest flashing back to MiniCM7-2.1.9, my battery life was REALLY good on that version. But I updated to v2.2.0 yesterday and now I have the same battery problem as you. The rom does run faster and I also noticed a few bugs fixed, such as the keyboard light, but battery life is just really bad for me.
If u dont use dsp manager then remove it,because many users hve reported that dsp manager drains battery
Install battery dr saver from market
It has option of full cycle charge for charging battery properly

Done that already, still the same. Already know about Battery Dr Saver, but I don't think it helps this problem.
I also installed Badass Battery Monitor, it's really detailed and shows a lot of info. It's showing that the display is using up the most battery, but I have it idle most of the time.........
agree!
at least someone or two has same problem with me.
i just flashed cm7 2.2.0 over these 2 weeks.
well i noticed the battery drain alot faster than stock eclair.
i'm looking forward to see the solution...

done that already too, except I use smartassv2 governor and my max is just stock speed at 600mhz.
I basically applied every tweak that I could find from every topic, and believe me they do work, on v2.1.9 at least.
It seems that most people have the same problem on v2.2.0, the radio somehow keeps draining battery. I noticed that it used up 33% for no reason, whereas on v2.1.9 it was around 2%.
BTW I dunno if it makes a difference if I use smartassv2 or interactiveX, but most people said that smartassv2 is better since that's what nAa uses, so it's more compatible. I don't think changing the governors matter though, I've used Badass Battery Monitor for 3 days in a row now and it shows none of the apps are draining power. Even using Android Assistant shows that my phone is idle 94% of the time, where the System uses 4% CPU and User uses 2% CPU. So I do believe it's gotta do with the radio, somehow this rom isn't using the kernel that well I think.
Then it wil be good idea to stick to 2.1.9
YES ! im not the only one wooo, i signed up just to thank the creator of this thread <3 ok so i think it is the minicm7 2.2.0 problem, because i never had it before ! I suggest going back to CM7 2.1.9. It's very stable for me and battery drain is so low that my phone can last almost a week on standby without much usage, it's great!
I would stay away from CM9 for now, and wait until it's more stable. So far, I've read that many people are experiencing a few bugs here and there, so I would wait until after a few new version releases and try it out then.

well, if you're using CM9 or CM7, you have no choice but to use the nAa kernel.......unless you're asking which kernel version, otherwise you pretty much don't have a choice.
I'm pretty sure it's not the kernel either, CM7 2.2.0 drains a lot more battery compared to CM7 2.1.9. They both use the same kernel, so it has nothing to do with that.
i used cm7 2.1.9 and i got 4 hours battery life, with wifi off, 3g off, and all i did was txt thru whatsapp with 2g and i was at the movies for 2 hours anyway, and no its not my battery cause i bought another one, still the same thing im getting frustrated ! gonna try original kernel and rom

I installed cm9 mini, but phone was lagging and battery life was poor. Now i installed cm7 mini 2.2.1 and it runs a lot better than cm9, but like most of you say, i also have the battery drain issue...; during 9hours of sleep my phone lost 30% of battery that's really enoying. Stock 2.1 SE rom loses about 7% during 9 hours of sleep.
So most of you recomand the 2.1.9 instead of 2.2.1? And which kernel should i use? Is there a possibility that the kernel i use (ana 14 ) drains the battery so fast? if i install 2.1.9 should i use the ana 14 kernel, or a lower version?
thx

Use better battery stats to check the wakelocks and cpu spy to see if your device is deep sleeping and if you just flashed it give it at least 3 battery cycles before you judge the battery life..

Same experience. My battery can't even last a full day on just standby, with default gapps installed. Tried with both anker and stock batts. Think i will switch back to cm10 for now until a usable siyah kernel is released for 10.1.

ROMs and Battery

What has been people's experience with battery life with the different ROMs? I've been on AOKP for awhile, and the battery, quite frankly, sucked compared to stock. I'm currently on PA and am getting just under stock. For me, battery life is first priority, even if there is occasional stutter. Testing battery life takes a long time, so I just wanted to see what others have been seeing. I would stay on stock, but I really want Tablet UI and real setting toggles.

Disable Google Now and see if that helps, totally did on my HOX and I've yet done it to my Nexus but I've not used it enough to actually deplete a battery yet.

You sort of want your cake and eat it too. If you want a ROM full of features and packed full of unicorn blood and the tears of leprechauns something is going to have to give and that will always be the battery life.

I'm addicted to my tablet... I've been using it without stop for the last three hours. This are my results with Paranoidandroid:
Very similar with stock though. I think I could upload some as well.
I'm pretty sure this is stock. Not a lot of difference as I said. Both of the images are with very heavy usage, I mean, screen on all the time, but almost the lowest brightness. With the screen off I get almost no drop.
(I couldn't attach the image in the previous post)
Battery life will always be a combination of idle drain + screen on drain. THe most important is obviously how long you can actually use the tablet (screen on time), but you also need good enough idle drain to not lose hardly any charge between when you use your tablet.
The more features you add the less battery life usually is. So either keep PA so you have the tablet UI or use a ROM that is very close to stock, like the stock ROM from scrosler or Muzzy's ROM.
A kernel can also have greater effect on battery life. If you want the best battery then go with KTManta kernel. Use either PegasusQ or ktoonservative governor and add in some undervolting to lower power draw. Using this combination I was able to get over 13 hours of screen on time in 1 charge. Idle drain was about 1% every 8-9 hours.
Personally, I've found that my battery life has improved maybe 10% since running cyanogenmod. If I'm really lucky I can get 7 hours SOT. Not a huge improvement over stock, but its definitely better.
Its worth noting that I use the "performance" CPU governor, which is supposed to be a battery killer. Strangely it doesn't seem to make much difference for me though, it just makes everything quicker!

Well, it is difficult to notice a higher battery drop when it is already insane... XD. Well, according to battery widget I'm getting around 8h with the screen on, which is not bad.

I've used the "battery widget" for a very long time and that app is a battery drainer. Got way better battery life uninstalling that app.

S3 battery life worse than the usual "bad"

I'm on liquid smooth nightly, the latest kit Kat one and I'm at 75% the first hour.. On Wi-Fi. The only thing I'm doing is restoring titanium back ups and installing apps. I'm using the badass governor, even though I don't know what it does, and have locations and Bluetooth turned off.
I'm coming from cyanogenmod because my battery was bad on that and I though a new rom after wiping everything would help my battery. I just made it worse. I wiped data and both caches too. The screen has been on the whole hour, but 75% is terrible. I used to go 30 plus hours easily on the same battery.
This phone is over 3 years old with the same battery so could that be the problem? Should I be using an official Samsung charger? O already tried the format option, that did nothing. What options can I change to get decent battery life again. Downgrade? Please help, posting on forums is my last resort, I read multiple posts about this problem and nothing worked for me.
1. If your battery is as old as your phone...then woah...you should probably get a new battery.
2. If you don't know how the governor "badass" works then you probably shouldn't use it. I don't know how it works either..it could be used for performance which would likely drain battery.
3. Use governors pegasusq, pegasusqplus, Zzmoove or on demand(tuned) as these tend to work well for battery.
4. I've heard battery on kitkat Roms tend not to be good?
5. Try a stock based ROM if your willing.
6. Install betterbatterystats to see if any apps are waking your phone when its in deep sleep and thus draining battery periodically.
7. Install greenify...and hibernate apps you don't need to be running in the background.
8. Profit. (maybe )
Hope this has helped

Very helpful.. I don't have your governor options except on demand so I'll do some research on that. Think I'll order a new battery because I'm already using greenify and auto killer. I'll try a stock rom if all that fails lol. Unwanted

Yes, its battery timing is not good.
What is your battery like on stock roms? I've found that stock + a custom kernel works the best in terms of both battery life and stability.
Mostly sounds like the battery is just old as butt. I had a bum battery when I first got mine and luckily got a replacement for free. The new one has been working fine ever since (been a lot less than 3 years) but 3 years on one battery is pretty darn good if you ask me. OF course there could always be some sort of other problem but everyone's best guess says get a new batt. Hope it works out.
