Hi all,
The New Yorker magazine has a Galaxy Tab edition of their app and I was wondering if there's ANY way to get this app for an Android phone. Surely there must be an .apk somewhere?
Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
I'd been looking for the APK, too. I found it last night and installed it on my ViewSonic G Tab (w/Vegan Gingerbread) and after a bunch of application errors, finally got it to work. I loaded the onto my Droid 3, but haven't gotten it to work.
It is a laborious processes with multiple downloads and registrations.
Go to www'nextissue'com/instruction'html# (replace ' with . - I'm not permitted to post outside links yet) At the bottom of the instruction page is a "Try downloading again" link that will start the download of the Next Issue (NI) apk.
Once you get the Next Issue app installed, you'll have to create an NI account.
With that installed go to the NI Store inside the app and click on The New Yorker (TNY) sample issue. In the new window, select the "Digital Upgrade" button.
You'll then have to enter your subscription information from your TNY mailing label. Once that is verified by NI, you'll be prompted to download the TNY/NI app.
After the TNY/NI app is installed you may have to input your NI login information again.
Then, the TNY issue has to be downloaded on to your device via the TNY/NI app.
When the download is done, you should be able to enjoy TNY on your phone/tablet.
Hope that helps.
Ok, so essentially, I'll still need a digital subscription. I wish there was a way to know it would work with my mytouch4g before paying for a whole year subscription.
there are sample issues to download and preview, though you may have to enter credit card info for the sample -- says you won't be charged if you cancel w/in 30 days.
try to download the apps, of you get that far and everything is working, then the magazines will probably work.
It seems like some print/mail subscriptions include the free digital subscription and others are additional $. I have print subscriptions for New Yorker, People and Esquire. After I entered my subscription numbers, only Esquire asked for payment info.
The New Yorker is working well on my tablet. The site says it's "optimized" for the Samsung Galaxy and Moto Xoom. People had a video that wouldn't play inside one of the articles so it may be that some features won't work on "non-optimized" devices.
Well, what I'm hoping for is to be able to pay to read it on my mytouch 4g and on my CM7 Nook color.
Does anyone have the apk for this? I tried to install TNY on my xoom using the NI Store and couldn't find the app listed. Their support folks then told me that it has only been released for the lower resolution devices so far.

Possibly start from one of the lists of candidates that show on a Google of "debloat LG G2 verizon". Likely a fair number of them have carried over to G3.
Here's a list of all the questionable apps I see installed. These survived my first pass of bloatware removal where I got rid of all the obvious junk I didn't want. This list contains everything I can't readily identify and I don't know if it's safe to remove or even want it to be removed

Good call, I'll cross check the lists and update the original post.
I disabled all of those and now I can no longer access my phone settings. Trying to narrow down which one disabled it...
edit: "tab view" works, but not "list view" in settings. A bit odd...

^ This. Please read before disabling. Bobbarker's list is items he's unsure of, not confirmed disabled and safe.

Had this problem too, defrosted LGApduService 1.2/LG IMS 3.3.0/LG System Server and fixed it.
I've disabled a handful based on old G2 lists as well as those mentioned above:

A few of those are either hunches (the com.verizon ones) on my part or services I wouldn't use anyway (ie. Email, SmartShare, voice controls outside of Google Now, etc.). So far everything is running fine, but bear in mind that I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I swing by Verizon to get the device transferred to my line and pop a SIM into it. Running off of strictly WiFi at the moment.
Just to clarify, when you mean disable, you mean freeze under the paid version of Titanium Backup? Sorry, I haven't been on the rooted scene since the Galaxy Nexus came out.

you can disable a lot of apps just using the app manager now, of course some bloatware still requires Titanium Backup but only some.
Oh thank you, I didn't know that. I just bought Titanium Backup though, after all these years of using the free version I finally have a bit of financial freedom to contribute. Thanks for the information though!

Friendly warning!
Best to just freeze the bloat rather than uninstall. Much easier to backtrack and fix an issue, or if you need to update for critical fixes. This is the best option unless a vet of modding your phone.
The bloat does not take up much storage space. ART is a far more significant issue as far as storage space hogging.
GNSS = GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM
May not want to screw with that one if you use g positioning data.
GPS = The American Global Positioning System. GNSS covers other positioning satellite systems too.
Did they really preload Hotels.com? What a joke this bloatware has become.

Yup...and the NFL crap. I love football but please let me install my preferred apps.
Disabling the LG Music app ("Music") will prevent you from adding new ringtones or notification sounds. However, once you have added the audio file it seems to be fine to freeze it again and have the ringtone still work.
Otherwise, I can confirm no issues with OP's suggestions.

Is GNSS at work in the United States as well, or are we limited to only GPS functionality? I ask because having GNSS related processes frozen through TiBu has caused me zero issues so far and was one of the things listed on many "safe to freeze" lists for the G2.
Guys. I just got the G3 and rooted it right in the parking lot of Best Buy lol
What specifically do u need to freeze to stop further OTAs?
I know the answer is here somewhere but just wanted it sooner is all forgive my laziness

So I came into possession of a commercial grade advertising kiosk (Nintendo Amiibo Display) that runs an Android OS 4.1.1. The device is setup to auto load the "AmiiboFrameWork.apk" package installed. The model of the system is DucoTech D185-ACA-720. I can access basic Android settings menus through a special key combination. Mainly system information, network setup, and volume controls. There is a menu that says App Install and gives the option of installing APKs from SD card or USB with a file structure of USB:\APKFiles\ or SD Card:\ApkFiles\. However no matter how I layout my file structure or name my APKs following that structure nothing appears in this menu to install. However There is a media tab for photos with a similar structure and photos I put on the card do show up. What I'm trying to figure out is how either install APKs, or access the base android system so I can customize the system to run custom apps I plan on making for it. However I want to retain the original AmiiboFrameWork APK or the whole OS so I can restore the system later if I want.
Now what I have tried is plugging it into my PC via the USB-OTG port while on, putting APKs in various file structures and naming conventions, booting it with my PC connected via OTG port, tried to trick my way into other menus through keyboard and settings menu tricks (similar to how people use to bypass lock screen security through menus).
Results:
1. OTG to PC while on: Device shows up as 2 USB 2.0 Flash drives in device manager. The drives appear in my computer but aren't accessible. ADB doesn't see it as an android device.
2. APKs on usb: Nothing shows up in the menu regardless of my naming convention or file structure.
3. Boot device while attached to PC via OTG port: My computer detects it as an NES Classic (previously installed the driver to mod my classic). This leads me to think its an Allwinner device or similar since that is what the driver was made for I believe? ADB still doesn't see it. This might be my best bet to get in.
4. Menus: Options are very limited and I wasn't able to access anything valuable aside from Install APK, Transfer Media, and Set startup APK.
5. Tapping build number: Tapping the build number in settings any number of times doesn't activate the developer mode options. The prompt doesn't even appear for it.
If anyone can assist in trying to gain access to this system, or even figure out the file structure so I can just install my own APKs like I want that would be great. Any ideas on where to look, what to try, and so on is greatly appreciated.
Here are some photos of the main board just in case
Any new updates to this? I made the mistake of uninstalling the Amiibo Framework APK so now all I can do is see the settings menu with no ability to install any APKS. Copying media files over does work though.

AmiiboFramework doesn't have anything to do with the "framework.res", Nintendo just called the app the "AmiiboFramework"
They only install APKs with a specific package name in a specific folder on your USB device / SD Card (com.general.mediaplayer.player). Unfortunately Nintendo used a different folder than us, and I don't recall what it was. You can go into a "normal" Android screen using a special procedure if the AmiiboFramework app is installed, but it should work without it too:
- Wait for the Loading screen to appear
- Begin to press the CSR and Setup buttons together, quickly alternating between them. Repeat until the CSR appears
- After the CSR appears, leaving the screen open for an extended period of time will cause the Amiibo Display Framework to re-appear
- If Alt+Tab is used, be sure to return to the CSR before returning to any other app, or the CSR will reboot the player
Alt+Tab refers to using a USB keyboard, after you have the CSR up you can exit with it.
They're really not great hardware for general usage.

Ohh, I tried to call and they wouldn't answer any of my questions lol. Is it possible to get any documentation on it? I'm sure Nintendo did their own setup, but having original documentation is a good step forward for what we have now. I'd love to setup my own configuration on it even if the hardware is meh.

There isn't much more documentation than what I mentioned unfortunately. The people who you'd get in a call definitely don't know anything about them (I don't think Nintendo made the AmiiboFramework app in-house either). If you want to repurpose it, you can try getting into the CSR and going into the normal Android Launcher. Try connecting over ADB and force-stopping any process with the letters "csr" in it's name

I have a few devices similar to this. They are duco DT156-AS4-1080. I was wanting to repurpose them as video players. The devices are wiped of content and load into a main menu. There is an option to exit to administrator, though it asks for a password. I dumped the partitions and tried to look through the binaries, but am unable to come up with anything. I can get into superSU and then exit to playstore, but then some type of watchdog kicks me back to the duco menu. Any help appreciated.

I DID IT! Working tablet
So the story is yesterday I found an Amiibo display at my apartment dumpster where people put stuff they don't want that still works, I nabbed it with the intention of salvaging the "monitor." Judging by the hammer-marks on the acrylic enclosure, and pry marks on the metal cage that held the power supplies for the led strips and the tablet I assume somebody took it home, got frustrated by the locks and screws after some prying, and just busted in the acrylic window to get to the floor model Amiibos.
I cracked it open, and after some fun with a butane torch to melt the acrylic around the screws open (damn security hex) was surprised to find that the "monitor" had a usb dongle plugged into it. I plugged it into my station and found it was a 2.4/5 GHZ wifi dongle.
All code here is from Windows power shell since I don't like to dual boot my main gaming rig. Usually I just use the Bash on Ubuntu on Windows developer option for stuff like this, but I didn't know if the fact I was using Windows usb drivers to connect to this would cause problems and I wanted one fewer step to troubleshoot if I had issues. Forgive me penguin for I have sinned.
I found the item number on the back of it and after some googling found it was an android device. Score!
I plugged the tablet in and it went into an Amiibo advertisement kiosk mode.
After about 8 hours I now have a limited (but functional!) giant Android tablet.
To any future adventurers I am making a guide to get you up and running quickly.

As well as pressing CSR and Setup to get into the settings screen. This was interesting, but ultimately didn't do much. However using
Code:
./adb shell logcat >> log.txt
and waiting for it to reboot from the csr menu led me to find (with some help from my engineer father) that /system/app/CSR_A003_20160304_BT.apk was the culprit of the restarts.
This was solved with
Code:
./adb shell rm /system/app/CSR_A003_20160304_BT.apk
From there I was stuck. But then I discovered: THE CSR SETTINGS MENU IS NOT THE REAL ANDROID SETTINGS MENU. To get to the real android settings menu use this:
Code:
./adb shell am start -a android.settings.SETTINGS
This allows you to do a factory reset!
However when it reboots the default launcher is stripped of important features like back/home/running apps, keyboard, a launcher etc. I sideloaded the following apps:
Chrome Browser
Microsoft Arrow Launcher (I originally used Nova but it was too much a ram hog to be useful)
Multiling Keyboard (I originally used Swiftkey, but it too was taking up too much ram)
WebTube (stripped down youTube frontend)
Soft Keys (so I had a home and back button, the running apps button still doesn't work :'( )
First post so no links ;(

This is what it looks like after boot. I may also have an affinity for Amiibos.

Quick note: This device doesn't support google play services, so no hulu, official youtube, netflix unfortunately. Try as I might I haven't found a solution.
i bought a box of these units a while back from the carboot and wanted to use them in our coffee shop were opening, i too didnt have much luck with them then i saw this thread, i know abit about computers but never messed with android, we basically wanted to use them for what they are used for now for displaying changing menus and advertising etc, i downloaded the clockworkmods adb, now how to enter the "./adb shell logcat >> log.txt" etc, presumably i just connect the otg port to the pc (win10) run the clockworkmod program then i use commandpromt? i did try it but i couldnt get it to work, do i have to put the android device into a mode like csr? any help would be appreciated?
N/A
Additional help needed
i got to the settings menu but it is only temporary i am wanting it to be like a regular tablet where can i get a rom to do that? to flash it so it will function like a galaxy tab 3 or so, as i would love to use my DT101-ASA-800 like a normal tablet with a keyboard and mouse. any help would be welcomed. as the factory reset doesn't let it work any different it keeps going straight to CSR settings.
so stuck... my head hurts
so i can not get my Model DT185-ACA-720 to connect to my pc..... ok it connects and a K: and F: drive appear but I cant access them. I managed to get .apk files to show up and transfer to the 12gb storage on the tablet but i cant access the storage on the tablet... im so lost... I downloaded the universal driver and ADB but both changed nothing... If anyone has any advice or updates im all ears since I basically destroyed the Kiosk to get this tablet free

Same issue here with the DT133-AC4-900 that I managed to pull out of a trashed google nest display from where I work. I managed to get the device to always load to the DUCO app by uninstalling the mediaplayer throught the DUCO app. However that is as far as I can get as the device will not communicate with ADB at all. Not sure if it's a win10 thing or if it's the device itself.

This worked, but I couldn't get ADB to work in Windows, I had to go grab my laptop running Deepin Linux and set up ADB on that, but no USB drivers are needed in Linux, so once I set up ADB, it just worked. So I'm hoping that might be the solution for others who are having trouble, just use Linux, it just works. ADB works on the CSR level, so no need for security key. Got CPU-Z on there for any curious about the hardware specs, my model is a DT101-ASA-800
Those who have been lucky to upgrade to Wear 2.0 have probably noticed the removed Do Not Disturb toggle synchronization between wearable and phone. Some like it, some not. I didn't like it, so I made an app that does the sync. Currently it only works one way: wearable -> phone. With some hacking, sync is working both ways.
You can find the application in Play Store.
Source, builds and setup instructions are available in github and licensed under Apache 2.0.
Installation instructions for Watch -> Phone sync:
Install phone application and wearable application from on-watch Play Store
Launch application on Phone
Click "Grant Permission" button
Enable Do Not Disturb access permission for application
Make sure all 3 checks in the application pass
Installation instructions for Phone -> Watch sync:
Setup watch ADB
Execute:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure enabled_notification_listeners com.google.android.wearable.app/com.google.android.clockwork.stream.NotificationCollectorService:rkr.weardndsync/rkr.weardndsync.NotificationService
Enable state broadcast in Watch Setup wizard
Currently synchronization phone -> watch is only possible by assigning permissions in ADB. Wear OS doesn't provide management settings. As this is not officially supported - it may not work for everyone or the next Wear version.
I love that something like this is now made, but I have a question. What is the first screenshot in the Google Play Store link for? I thought this was only for DND?
I'd like to install it and find out myself, but my ZenWatch 2 still hasn't received the update.
If your watch isn't updated, then the sync should work out of the box. As for the screenshot, I tried to show that the toggle in the watch will sync to the toggle in the phone. I'm not a designer.
Wonderful little utility. Thank you very much.
Fingers crossed to get phone > watch allowed.
I have a few apps that toggle DND via Tasker on my phone, and having it trigger the watch too would be sweet.
Good news and bad news.
The bad: notification access and all the management is unavailable in Wear. So there will not be an official way to make this work (source).
The good: you can grant the permission in ADB. I tried it and the app can actually switch DND on and off (source).
Having to run a single ADB command will probably not stop the brave people of XDA! So synchronization should eventually come to the watch, just give me some time to fix the current bugs.
Bonus news: AudioManager can be used in android <6 for sound modes. Haven't looked into that yet.
Thanks for this app, I miss the functionality!
Sync from phone to watch is implemented and functional! v1.5 is being pushed to the Play Store. You just need to enable broadcast from phone in setup wizard and execute this command in the watch:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure enabled_notification_listeners com.google.android.wearable.app/com.google.android.clockwork.stream.NotificationCollectorService:rkr.weardndsync/rkr.weardndsync.HackService

Hello!
Not work on Huawei Mediapad X2 (android 5.1.1).
I know: "only Android 6+ is supported"... But, maybe, android 5.1 can be added to?..
Thank you!
If it can help, I can access Do Not Disturb on android 5 through Tasker.
But it is called "Interrupt Mode". It can be found here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide_summary.html search for "Interrupt Mode".

me neither, but maybe this could help?
I'm just curious. What's the difference between this version available in the Play Store (source code available here) and your own? It looks to me as though that blunden may have forked your code.
That's how open source works, you are free to fork it or take it as an inspiration. His code isn't a plain copy paste, it looks like he even has sync to older android versions, which I didn't have time to do.
I can no longer sync both ways after the newest update, v1.6. I can only control DND from both devices from my watch. Anyone else having this problem with v1.6?

The first idea is that app got suspended after the update. Make sure watch app is updated and start the app on phone. I've added a check that will tell you if watch DND permission is granted. If everything passes, then there is probably something weird with the AudioManager. Previous version used the new NotificationManager, but it requires a running service for broadcast events. I've switched to legacy AudioManager that can use a stateless broadcast receiver.
[Edit:] Android 4.3+ support is being pushed. This needed a code refactoring, so bugs are probable.
okk

Yeah, all three permissions were granted. You wouldn't happen to have the APK for the previous version?

V1.5 attached.
I would still prefer if you could make a logcat and I could fix the problem for the rest of the people. Just do these steps:
Connect phone to ADB
Enable DND, Disable DND on phone
Enable DND, Disable DND in watch
Run: adb logcat -d > bug_phone.txt
Repeat with watch connected to bug_watch.txt
PM the logs and I may try to fix it. It's not the first time android APIs don't work in specific phones.
Just a quick FYI. Version 1.6 works fine here. Nexus 6 / Pure Nexus 7.1.1 / Magisk root. Huawei watch AW 2.0 7.1.1 stock.
I can start DND from either watch or phone and the other device enables.
It works when I start Sleep as Android; SaS enables phone DND and that enables DND for AW 2.0, then Tasker via AutoWear triggers theater mode on my watch. One step goodness! :victory:
THIS TUTORIAL IS GEARED TOWARDS THOSE THAT HAVE THE VERSION OF THE PHONE WITH CHINESE FIRMWARE,MAY BE USED AS A GENERAL GUIDE FOR OTHER VERSIONS.
The subject of app/bloatware removal/disabling has been mentioned in a few threads throughout the Oppo Find X forum,so,I thought I'd start a thread to centralize the topic.
As w/any mods go,this is one that's fairly harmless, worse case scenario,a factory reset will get you back on track, but, ultimately everyone is responsible for their own phone & what happens to it.
With that out of the way..............
1) Any app that can be easily uninstalled by the "uninstall" button is 100% safe,no harm whatsoever. If you want,d/l an apk extractor tool app to make a copy & store wherever, should you change your mind.
2) Now,most are interested in getting rid of as many of the OPPO system apps as possible w/o crippling wanted functionality. This will be an evolving list,& gradually adding to it,with input from anyone interested,I'll update the list right here.
3) OK,the How-To is right here https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
4) Any input regarding adding to the list is encouraged.
If you have something to add to the list that you're tried out yourself, please include any effects on functionality that may have resulted, especially if it affected other apps & their functionality, good, bad,or otherwise.
5) Once again, tried & tested input is highly encouraged & welcome. I'm open to suggestions on trying out app removal that ventures into uncharted territory, however, depending on what it is & how/when I'm using my phone,it might be a few days before I'm free for Guinea Pig duty.....
6) Touching on point #5,if,for whatever reason, one is in no position to go into uncharted waters w/this,that's fine,I just recommend waiting a few days after the apps that you're interested in removing 1st,check the list & dates below. No one wants a borked phone that needs reset at an inoppportune time to get things restored to useability.
I myself won't be able to test every day,I get it,so,if you can't test things for yourself & share here, that is perfectly OK,JUST HANG IN THERE UNTIL THE SAFE LIST IS STABLE FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE PROCEEDING.
The list will grow & evolve/be edited on a continuous basis until we all get it figured out. :good:
KUDOS to @justinswidebody for stepping up as a community leader & testing the apps that have risks/etc... that may warrant a reset/starting over, your efforts are to be commended by all who reap the rewards of your contributions,I can't thank you enough. :good:
A couple points worth repeating, from the link & instructions :
******** A factory reset will restore all uninstalled apps.
******** OTA's shouldn't be affected or affect the status of apps, whether they're installed or uninstalled (unless,of course, you've deleted something pertaining to updates, which won't be listed below)
FYI: The dates reflect the time of posting/removal,for ease of troubleshooting,in the event something noteworthy gets broken,it gives a good reference where to begin looking for the problem/solution.

Guessing it has something to do with Phone Manager & Security apps, but,I'm not quite comfortable removing either ATM,until I can take a look around @ other Oppo Devices running a recent version of Color OS & get a better idea of the effects of removing either.
In the meantime,just another alternative:
You can side-load apps/.apks via Bluetooth sharing from another device without issue.
Thanks a lot for the Guide! I really wanna get rid of the launcher....
Therefore, beginner question:
If I run the adb devices command (inside the platform-tools folder) it shows no device in the list.
I enabled USB Debugging on the phone.
Is it necessary to manually install the driver for the phone to make adb work?
I found a driver here (mobileheadlines.net/) but I am not sure if this website is trustworthy.
Thanks for your help.
BTW: I think your link to the make adb run is not working properly. At least i get an 403 error message. Is this the how to you wanted to refer to?

THX for the heads-up on the link,it's fixed now. :good:
The drivers should install themselves, but, before you do that, you have to enable Developer Options & once there, you'll need to toggle-on USB Debugging.
This tutorial for Dev Options/USB De-Bugging is for other OPPO devices, but,is applicable here:
https://www.syncios.com/android/how-to-debug-oppo-f1.html
Once you do the above,plug-in to your PC & the drivers will automatically install.
Then pull down on the notification bar,tap on the USB Debugging notification, select Transfer files.
Also, the 1st time you connect/use USB Debugging, you'll see a pop-up window asking for permission, allow it. If you don't see it,disconnect from the PC,re-connect,select File Transfer & keep the phone unlocked, until you see the permission pop-up. I recommend selecting "Always" so,you don't have to bother w/it again.
Check this video out,it covers most of the steps:

just to add correction if you dont mind..the package is com.oppo.oppopowermonitor
I've just removed
com.coloros.healthcheck
com.coloros.appmanager
com.mobiletools.systemhelper
Don't see anything bad happening from what I can tell.
Also removed
com.coloros.securitypermission
However this removed the ability to change any permissions.
One of these that I removed allowed me to use mobile data for Showbox. I wasn't able to watch any Showbox stuff on mobile data before removing these

Yes,I am,using Textra & removed the stock messaging app, still getting the pop-up,but,messaging does work.
I suspect the banner is tied to the Privacy Permissions app (com.coloros.securitypermission) Don't remove this, breaks permission management.
@justinswidebody
If you haven't performed a factory reset, can you test a 3rd party SMS/MMS app & see if the OPPO ID Prompt still pops-up?
THX again. :good:
EDIT: @yakuzlin
The Privacy Permissions app (com.coloros.securitypermission) is not tied to the banner pop-up,see the following post.......
I installed Textra, but I still have the default messaging app so I can't set it as default. But when I send a text it sent fine , when I receive a text it puts up a hint pop up message that the default messaging app is used for security reasons.
