Hello, guys...
I have one question: how can I find out that my phone supports the USB OTG?
I have tried USB OTG checker app that told me: "Your device OS has USB OTG API!" but when I plug the USB OTG flash drive, nothing happen..
There is a also folder called "usbotg" in /storage.
Why does not it working?

I inserted a USB memory (using a converter plug) but the VP7 did not recognize it. Has anyone successfully connected something to the port?

Thats's a limitation. USB port on Viewpad 7 is passive, so it can not read external sources.

I do recall someone talking about using a "USB OGO" cable to do something like what you are talking about... Look into it on "android.modaco.com" looks like a modified USB cable and a custom rom will let you attach a flashdrive to your USB port...
hope that helps...
I have one of these When You fist connect USB to PC it installs a virtual cd drive . You can either ignore it or let it install after that Plug in USB while tablet is on ,it will ask you to turn on USB storage tap turn on and SD card shows up on PC as a removable disk you can read and write to with Windows Explorer
Sorry for the Stupid Noob post I misread it.Thought you meant internal storage

No worries mate, I have been able to move files (mainly music) between my PC and the ViewPad, I just found it odd that since it will obviously act as a receiver through the USB port from a PC why wouldn't it receive directly from a USB memory? Obviously I don't know enough about how these things work.
According to some users the viewpad 7 kernel supports usb OTG where the devices acts as the host.

I played this morning with some USB cables and my Viewpad 7 and I found as follows:
1) You need USB OTG cable or USB OTG adapter with USB A female connector at one end and with USB Mini B male connector at second end - that end you should put in Viewpad 7 USB socket. With such a combination Viewpad 7 can read USB flash memories. I will try later other USB devices.
2) it worked fine on tj_style ROM and on Viewsonic stock ROM with Android 2.2.2.
3) Mouse works, but there is no cursor and the selection "jumps" from icon to icon.
4) Wireless keyboard, USB DVD player and USB hard disk do not work.
sorry for the maybe noob Q, but do I have to mount the usb memory or do i directly see the files in a folder...
I use ghost commander and cannot find the containing files...;-/
Thx in advance
--> Problem solved: It was the NTFS-Prob....With fat32 everything works like a charm...(no extra mounting...)

hi
i got the cable as mentioned above but nothing happens im on amalgations rom any suggestions on the same
I use the Q5 USB Memory Manager app to mount a memory stick or a usb hdd. This works even on custom roms. Try google to find out more about this app.
Anyone got usb otg on their z5 compact?
I get the message saying that it's detected the usb HDD but it's not showing up in any file manager apps
I was using a powered usb cable, when I used normal unpowered usb otg cable I was able to see files on usb hdd
I asume you dit check the "usb detection" setting in settings\device connections\usb (translated from dutch so might be different names )
When i connect an USB stick it is recognized.
Yeah I assumed it would get recognised when the hdd was connected but with the exposed usb port the voltage is turned off, so I put the shortcut for ' detect usb device' in my shortcuts as I connect usb devices often
Hello,
I'm on the latest, non-rooted Nougat 32.4.A.1.54 SGP771 and can confirm there is no OTG support, though you still do get the option 'find an OTG device'. I use an original SONY OTG USB (female) to micro USB adapter, checked with at least 4 USB memory sticks all in FAT32, a mini USB mouse no luck. Also checked the connectors/ports for damage, cleaned it to no avail. The tablet charges battery and transfers data with PC flawlessly. My question is: is there any ADB command to force chceck the OTG support and/or its status?
Thanks,
Jack

Same as me
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Hi, I'm wondering if somenoe can help me, I rooted my phone mainly to try and get usb otg to work but I can't get it working. I'd like to use an external dac for music. I've copied the files android.hardware.usb.host.xml, handheld_core_hardware.xml, and tablet_core_hardware.xml. I've checked my status with the Usb Otg Checker app, which has a checklist, and it says my phone is usb otg compatible. I've also checked with the Usb Host Check app and it says usb host support is enabled on my device.
However, when I try and mount the dac using Usb Otg Helper it says:
'Root access OK
E: Mount directory could not be created...
E: THIS APP WILL NOT WORK!
Otg Mass Storage not supported?
NTFS read-write supported'.
The app then gives a web link 'if I want it on stock kernel' (which I think I am), and it talks about possibly needing modules (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24600142&postcount=2) but I can't find any for this device. Can someone help me please? How can I possibly make otg work?

Hello guys.
I was trying to boot Windows from my mobile phone. First I tried to create a bootable USB drive but failed since my phone does not support USB OTG.
Now I want to boot Windows with DriveDroid, but before unrooting the phone I wonder if USB OTG is required too because I saw some labels like USB Host in DriveDroid or what is that refered to?
Another thing I see is my cellphone should support USB Mass Storage capability. Is there some app to check that? I could not find it.
Any help will be appreciated.
