Hello, everybody
As you already know, Sony has launched the official Android 6.0.1 for our beloved device, Xperia Z3 Compact, 2 days earlier, and the Camera algorithm is one of a lot of things we have been asking Sony to fix. Unfortunately, the Stock Camera performance didn't improve, not even a little, but the exciting part of all of this, is that I've been using Google Camera today just for fun, and I was shocked of how much the Camera improved over LP!
I don't really know what was the problem with Sony's cameras, is it something inside the system that needs expert fix, or it's just the horrible Camera app that causes sh**ty results.
What about you? Did you find an improve in Camera performance using 3rd party apps? Lemme know!
There is a picture that I posted, taken with Google Camera, 20.7MP, and the another one is after full zoom in Album app. Give me your opinions (About the resolution and zoom not the nice pic :v ) .
The colors are natural and so close to real-life, the red is oversaturated tho..
This is my first thread on XDA, so if I'm in the wrong section or if i did something wrong here don't kick my a** please :v
I don't know why Sony lose camera app rather than other phone. Like sams or omi.

Yep. Even a Chinese mobiles 13 or 8 MP is better than Sony's "20.1" MP..

Just use any Camera app but the stock one, you can compare them yourself!
Is the google camera removed from the playstore? Can't find it there anymore (France).

I don't have marshmallow yet, don't want to update any different but OTA. But I'm going to sell my z3c soon, unless I can see camera improvements.

Oh god the camera is bad, all I ask for is a decent camera that can snap pictures of words on maybe a whiteboard from a distance when I'm in a meeting and god does the image look horrible when I zoom is, there is no detail at all sort of like an over sharpening of a blur image. God even the nexus 4 has a much clearer image than this although that's plagued by its far I share of focusing bugs

Hey mate. Don't despair. Just load a 3rd party camera app. I'm going between Camera Zoom FX and Camera FV-5 at the moment. I think FV-5 is going to be my choice.
There's not much wrong with the optics on the Ultra just too much native compression from Sony's own app.
So with a better app I'm seeing much better results.

Trust me, ive tried. They look more or less the same, ive tried it all. The paid verions for fx, fv5, focal, motox camera, ics camera+ and hdr camera. They all look more or less the same, the details seems to be like a chalk painting when zoomed in. Even in the thread, the leaves edges seems to be like chalk smudge, i just need a fix that will let me take a goddamn picture of my office notes on a projected screen ahh
after root i threw in the gallery app from aosp and it included the camera app too. works fine. lets me to those photospheres too

Hi Beerope.
I'm with you on this.
I get the feeling that camera apps on google market still use the same sony provided codecs for compression when using a stock rom.
Sony ZU codecs and camera force a file size of under 2mb which is why the definition when zoomed in is so crap...
I have a theory that if you use a rom like CM10.x or AOSP that the picture quality will be greatly improved when using third party camera apps or even the native camera apps as those roms are using the standard android codecs.
This will also be evident in the file sizes generated by those camera apps.
Unfortunately I cant test as I need my phone for work purposes (so it remains on stock) at the moment and haven't got time to experiment with custom roms yet.
I'm currently on 510 and refuse to got to 526 or 532 due to the weird SODs I keep reading about.
My previous ZU had 526 and had so many problems with random screen clicking.
My current ZU is on 510 and I've had no problems at all - rock solid no random clicking but obviously the picture quality from the camera sucks...

CM10.2 (flavours) are a little better. The file size is an issue as image artifacts are greatly reduced. It is a problem Sony needs to sort out. 3rd part apps can only improve so much. its up to firmware.

As you know Xz2 has a bad quality in pictures specially when we use it in night ..Is there any camera application or mod or something like that which we can use to improve quality?

Sony Dev Team 7 said they are working on making both Z1 and Z2 much better
Z2 may take some time due to the release of Z3

Lol i find that my z1 outperforms every other phones i have used especially night picture. So i wouldnt say its that bad. But improvements are always a plus.
I used an s5 and it outperformed Z2. Especially in low light.

For me in low light it is. The pics from Z2 come really noisy.

Team 7 as in those occasional weirdos who sometimes show up on Developer [email protected]
i do believe they are a second or alternate teem to manage flagships, unless they disbanded or unless they changed it but it was on a post on Talk sony and Developer world around a couple months ago

I have Sony Xperia Z2 and I know there have been lots of threads regarding this issue and i know that this camera lag does not affect the photo quality. However is there anyway to flash or install or modify the old camera app which was in 4.4.3? I hate how the camera is laggy and not as smooth.

If you use Existenz then the most recent version (4.5.0) has it.

+1 too, in a light scene, camera is smooth, but in low light, it's lag like the others, Z and Z1 still smooth.

Now in z2 , the camera is very laggy ...ok...but we have now a very good quality in photos! I try a photo with 4.4.2 and another photo with 4.4.4...same place,same object.The sharpness,colors and quality is very very very superior in 4.4.4
Infact in 4.4.2 some photos are with a strange blue bounce in objects,people and animals. In 4.4.4 the bounce disappear . I heard (but i'm not sure of this) , the photo quality with z and z1 is very bad with sony camera. Now z2 with sony camera is really ok in my opinion :good:
I agree with you that the camera is taking better photos, however don't forget that 4.4.4 exaggerates the colours of photos in album app, I don't know if you can notice that.. When you look at the photos on pc or print anything, they come out terrible. I was really happy with the old camera. I think would be great if someone can find a way to get back the old camera 4.4.3 running on 4.4.4.

It's supervivid or (sometimes) x-reality feature on screen settings if you activate....it exaggerate colour in certain situations on phone...in PC, the photos are great for me... i test that i advice you to settings the white balance screen with : R=0 B=177 G=177 to have more natural colors on screen .Then use manual camera to take better photos Or 3rd party app (like snap camera or a better camera ). You can try :good:
Yes that is right. I agree that it does a decent photos but I think I was happy with a smooth camera that is all. No my pc is fine and I also tend to copy photos to mac and I use mac book pro retina. I want the 60 fps back!!

You're welcome ! Sadly the fps has reduced due to camera overheating,but eXistenZ 4.50 have 60 fps but only in recording video. I believe in lollipop for new camera feature

I wish the same, since motorola camera doesnt have much features but still it requires necessary hardwares. Though our Phone Camera's lens has enough potential we dont have necessary software nor developers dont care much about camera. So most likely we wont see anything i future sorry to say it but lets have hope!!
DSLR Camera Pro is the closest camera app I've found to a real camera.

Since xperia m5, and motorola style have the same senson IMX230 from sony... Would it be possible to use their camera app in our phones?? (asuming someone is able to extract that app from their roms)

The problem I think, is that th Honor 7 doesn't have the Camera2 API support. Which would allow to unlock the true potential of this sensor

I hope some developers helps us with our device, for instance I would like to change to a chinese rom keeping the baseband, but I am affraid how to make it.

As far as the Camera app is concerned, it can be ported, but not sure if it will throw out any high quality images, as it all depends on the camera driver compiled from source.

You can install another camera app from Google play but the stock option seems pretty good to me. Also I'm getting very good pictures from my H7. Compared to my previous Xperia Z1 the H7 is much better.

Using RAW format? You can really tell the difference in quality!
